Twitter Reacts to Shinseki's Departure
If reaction on Twitter is any indication, Gen. Eric Shinseki's resignation from the VA today will do little to quell the building Veterans Administration scandal.
I take full responsibility for the thing I vowed to reform but did nothing about for 6 years by reminding you I inherited it from Bush. #VA— Razor (@hale_razor) May 30, 2014
Somewhere, right now, a veteran is dying on a secret VA list. Politicians are sending meaningless press statements. That okay with you?— Jimmie (@jimmiebjr) May 30, 2014
We should totally put the VA in charge of the entire nation's health care, you guys. http://t.co/EsyIAGi0BU— Sean Davis (@seanmdav) May 30, 2014
HuffPo's Amanda Terkel wonders aloud (with a hint of sarcasm directed at, well, everyone):
So Shinseki’s gone. All the problems will be fixed now, right?— Amanda Terkel (@aterkel) May 30, 2014
CBS News' Mark Knoller asks the best question of the day.
Left unanswered: if the VA defies management by a Secretary who was a four-star General, can it be successfully run by anyone?— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) May 30, 2014
The bureaucrats appear to have been defying the temporary political appointee, while fulfilling the wishes of their permanent supervisors. Until that is fixed, the answer has to be "No."
But at least, after all this storm about neglected veterans, our government is getting its priorities in order. Right?
