"The only thing necessary for evil to prevail is for good people to look the other way and do nothing,' Says California DA Who Intends to Do Something to Help Evil Prevail
Pam Gellar wants to run bus ads in San Francisco quoting jihadists in their own words. The local district attorney has a problem with quoting jihadists accurately.
A controversy has been re-ignited this week as ten new ads go up on San Francisco Muni buses containing quotes used by terrorists.
“Killing Jews is worship that draws us closer to Allah,” reads one of the ads, which has people debating the line between free speech and hate speech.
Who is the hate speaker here? CBS's story puts Gellar in that role. All she is doing is quoting jihadists using their actual words. Doesn't that make the jihadists the hate speakers?
Several San Francisco city leaders, including District Attorney George Gascon, have condemned the campaign.
“San Francisco won’t tolerate Islamophobic bigotry,” said Gascon. “The only thing necessary for evil to prevail is for good people to look the other way and do nothing.”
Gacson's first and second sentences don't work together here.
You can't reason with the likes of DA Gascon. It's futile to try.
This episode does help point out the danger of so-called hate speech laws. Government functionaries can choose which hates to hate, and leftists have made it pretty clear that they hate speech that is not actually hate speech, and defend speech that is by definition hate speech.
