Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) giant tower of ObamaCare regulations has been carefully wheeled by aides around the Hill for press conferences and photo ops, and even appeared alongside McConnell at CPAC.
Today, the stack of regs tied prettily with red bows was on loaner to Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) for his tax day video.
Last week, Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) indicated to reporters that the chamber's GOP “have kind of got their mojo back” and would be concentrating on reforming the tax code. “This is a key issue all Republicans believe in – making the government smaller, making the economy stronger and letting people keep more of what they earn,” McCarthy said.
Boehner used the red-tape tower to highlight that ObamaCare added 21 new taxes hikes totaling more than $1 trillion.
"It’s 20,000 pages high, seven feet tall, and includes all of the regulations generated by the president’s health care law," Boehner said. "Now take a good look. Now picture this: FOUR of these. Our tax code is four million words long. Add to that the regulations, explanations, annotations, and more, and there are 74,000 pages."
"And just like ObamaCare, our tax code is a headache for families and workers, and it’s a nightmare for small business owners," the Speaker added. "That’s why Republicans want to fix it."
