Sophisticated Hatred: Democrats and America
"Hate" is a strong word, but it's the right word to use when others -- such as "dislike," "disdain," or "despise" -- aren't strong enough. And it's the perfect word to use when describing the way Democrats feel about this country: they hate America, even though they profit from being Americans.
This hatred, directed at the America our Founders envisioned, comes in different shapes and sizes. Among some Democrats it shows itself in the conviction that we shouldn't be stronger than others nations; in others it shows itself in asserting that we shouldn't be freer than other nations or wealthier than other nations. But in all of its various forms it is part of an ideological war against the ideals, documents, and traditions that remind us of the liberties that are ours by birthright.
Sometimes the hatred looks fat and bloated, as when former Democrat Vice President Al Gore was "anti-American" enough to secure the Nobel Peace Prize. Other times it looks like a bug-eyed peanut farmer from Georgia, as when former Democrat President Jimmy Carter approached nirvana by supporting terrorism and trying to convince European allies to cut ties with the United States in early 2008. This was on the same trip where Carter "placed a wreath at the Ramallah grave of former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat."
At yet other times the hatred looks like Democrat Congressman Jack Murtha, an angry, slobbering, blame-America-first politician who spent the months leading up to election 2008 swearing his constituents would never vote for Barack Obama because they were "rednecks" with an aversion to blacks and other minorities. (Yes, this is the same Murtha who "refused to back down from his smears of the exonerated Marines who served in Haditha, Iraq," Marines he described "as 'cold-blooded' murderers.")
Of course, there are times when this hatred even looks sophisticated, if looking French can be considered sophisticated, as when Democrat Senator John Kerry's contempt of America's military became evident during his 2004 presidential campaign. During the campaign, testimony the cowardly Kerry had given to the House Foreign Relations Committee regarding his Vietnam War service was uncovered. In the testimony, from April 22, 1971, he claimed to have witnessed U.S. military personnel as they "raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan."
