Ron Paul Turns 77
Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) celebrates his 77th birthday today.
@repronpaul's birthday, we got him this," tweeted House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), linking to video of Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) -- like Paul, a libertarian Republican in Congress -- making the case for Paul's push to audit the Fed:
Paul, who is retiring from Congress at the end of this term, got a bit of an early birthday gift a month ago when the House passed his latest version of the "Audit the Fed" bill, 327-98.
But what the perpetual presidential hopeful really wants is his delegates to have a voice at the Republican National Convention.
The Paul campaign is working another appeal in Louisiana this week, where it says rules regarding delegates were violated at the state convention thus all delegates should be thrown out, and Paul's 21 delegates (out of 24) from Maine are just hoping they'll be seated at the convention in Tampa next week.
Technically still a candidate, Paul has no speaking role at the convention but is hosting a "Rally for Liberty Delegates" on Sunday at the University of South Florida's Sun Dome. His son, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), has a speaking slot at the RNC.
Paul has 160 delegates, according to the Associated Press, compared to 1,552 for Mitt Romney.
