PJ Media’s Second Decade
Next year will mark ten years since “Pajamas Media” was established. What started as a tightly knit band of bloggers defining the boundaries of “new media” has become a multimedia digital presence. The brands we’ve established – PJ Media®, PJTV® and Freedom Academy® – have created a community of more than 12.8 million readers and viewers.
Over the years, we have evolved as the Web and our audience have evolved. In 2008 we added online video to our content mix when PJTV launched at that year’s Republican National Convention, where it was the first online news organization accorded a full television booth along with the traditional media networks. Since then, PJTV has evolved into the premier, center-right online television network with popular shows including Afterburner with Bill Whittle; Trifecta with Stephen Green, Scott Ott, and Bill Whittle; and ZoNation with Alfonzo Rachel.
In 2011, we shed our “pajamas” and rebranded to PJ Media. At that time, we reaffirmed our mission to be the platform that supports voices from a free America. J. Christian Adams, Glenn Reynolds and Roger L. Simon are three of the influential voices that help us fulfill that mission. Bridget Johnson, our longtime Washington, D.C., editor, leads a team of reporters covering politics in our nation’s capital and around the country. We also have added the PJ Tatler led by Bryan Preston, covering breaking political news, and PJ Lifestyle led by David Swindle, which offers the latest news on books, movies, music, pop culture, technology and more. Our newest product is The Grid, an evolution in presenting highly visual and straight-to-the-point content.
Last fall, we launched the Freedom Academy, a place where people can rediscover freedom and liberty, one generation at a time. Led by renowned scholar Victor Davis Hanson, the Freedom Academy features an online book club and premium video lecture series that bring to life the ideas, people and empires that shaped Western civilization.
The story of PJ Media so far personifies a venture of constant innovation and continual evolution, and those changes will continue as PJ Media embarks on its second decade.
Coming This Fall
Our management philosophy has been guided by a simple principle: listen to our audience. For the past several months, we have been undertaking a review of what the next decade should look like with the twin goals of enhancing our content and expanding our audience. As we move forward, you will see a number of changes to meet those goals.
For example, we will be ramping up our premium video programming, such as our popular Freedom Academy lecture series on World War II that is available in our PJ Store. Created and narrated by Victor Davis Hanson, this six-part lecture series combines engaging scholarship with compelling multimedia to tell the fascinating story of the war that shaped the modern world from its origins to its aftermath.
We also are developing a line of e-books dedicated to honoring America’s past and preserving our future. This includes our e-book on homeschooling that explores the concerns surrounding the U.S. K-12 educational system, and helps parents begin the pursuit of educational alternatives for their children.
And we will be undertaking a full evaluation of how best to deliver content that is responsive to the ubiquity of mobile devices, and the time constraints of our audience. As part of this evaluation, we will be adjusting our online video programming and lineup based on feedback we've received from our viewers. To streamline and optimize our video production, we will consolidate our video operations to our Los Angeles studio.

We have had an exciting ten years at PJ Media. And we are even more excited about what's in store for the decade to come.
