Palin: 'I do have the fire in my belly' to run for president
That's what she told Fox:
"I think my problem is that I do have that fire in my belly. I am so adamantly supportive of the good traditional things about America and our free enterprise system and I want to make sure that America is put back on the right track and we only do that by defeating Obama in 2012. I have that fire in my belly," fmr. Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) tells FOX News.
The signs have been there for a while. She is engaged in South Carolina, a state without which a Republican doesn't win the nomination. SarahPAC's website got a sharp new redesign recently (and that site is headlining the "fire in the belly" interview today). Palin has positioned herself as a king or queen maker in races around the states. And she weighs in on the issues strategically and very effectively via her facebook page, her position on Fox and in interviews.
The question is, can she win? She has a lot of work to do with the independents she will need, no question about it. She will have Tina Fey dogging her every step. Many within the GOP are very skeptical of her. But everything she predicted about Obama in 2008 has come true, and she can certainly fire up the social con base in the GOP while speaking strongly to the fiscal con side as well. Sarah Palin can connect with an audience like very few other political figures can, and until she was torn apart by the media-left, she was the most popular governor in the country. With Huck out and no one else but Cain catching fire right now, her entrance into the race would be, to simultaneously play Captain Obvious and Dr. Cliche, a game changer.
