'Obamacare is here. Get used to it' and Other Stupid Things Democrats Say
This is kind of obvious but still worth pointing out in detail. Lately, the president and his allies in the media have tried to shut down debate over Obamacare. Take the Washington Post's Eugene Robinson, for example.
How many lies does it take for the Post to fire a columnist? Obamacare can be turned back. There was no "point of no return." The Obamacare site didn't crash because millions were trying to buy health insurance. It crashed because it is a crappy web site built to hide the sticker shock as long as possible. Do they fact-check columns at the Post anymore? Do they hire professional writers who think before they type?
The rest of my reaction to that arrogant, condescending headline is unprintable in a family publication.
A printable reaction to it is: "The Second Amendment is here. Get used to it."
After all, the right to bear arms has been the law for centuries. Obamacare has only been the law for a few weeks, and only a few days when Robinson wrote that column. But here's Eugene Robinson on that settled law: "On guns, take action now." And by action, he doesn't mean go out and buy a gun. He wants the settled Second Amendment gutted and "assault weapons" banned.
Laws, you see, are only settled when Democrats say so. Same thing with science. Science says fetuses in the womb feel pain and medicine is rendering them viable earlier and earlier in term, so Democrats just deny the science. Poof! Then they turn right around and claim that the "science is settled" on global warming to shut off debate, when the science isn't settled at all. Roe v Wade is the law of the land and you can't challenge it. But Democrats are free to change the legal definition of marriage on a whim and smear anyone who questions them on it. Here's Eugene Robinson's column promoting changing the settled law on the definition of marriage.
Why aren't laws that flow from centuries of tradition settled, but Obamacare is now fully set in stone, never to be questioned or changed, ever?
Because Eugene Robinson says so, that's why! Now, shut the hell up already.
Here's another reaction to Robinson: "Immigration law is settled. So get used to it." Guess what, though. Robinson doesn't think immigration law is settled at all.
Another reaction to Robinson's arrogance, circa the 1920s: "Prohibition is the law. Get used to it."
Here's another: "Democrats have established Jim Crow. So get used to it." Hey, it was settled law for a while. SCOTUS even backed it up in Plessy v Ferguson. Can't change settled law! Even if it's disgusting.
Here's another, from a few decades earlier: "Democrats demand that slavery remain legal. So get used to it." That was settled, court-approved law too. It also happened to be evil. Men do evil things and cloak it in the letter of law. If we cannot question that, we cannot overcome said evil. Once established, it is permanent.
If we really took the president's and Robinson's logic to its full extent, the laws as they existed at the moment the United States was founded would still all remain the law of the land forever. All of them. Only landowners could vote. No female suffrage. And once a law was passed, it could not be repealed or changed in any way whatsoever until the end of time. Is that what Robinson wants, or is he just being dishonest?
With all due respect to the president and his man at the Post, their "Obamacare is here so get used to it!" command is idiotic. I mean, really, truly and deeply and profoundly idiotic. It's unworthy of a president and doesn't belong in serious, adult conversation.
Also, it's shamelessly totalitarian in its attempt to kill off debate and dialogue. It's just a boot in the face and an order to shut your mouth or he'll kick you again.
