No POTUS Budget, No Pay -- for his OMB
In February, President Obama signed into law the "No Budget, No Pay" temporary debt-ceiling suspension that freezes lawmakers' pay if a budget is not passed by April 15.
Now comes a proposal to suspend pay of the Office of Management and Budget -- the director and other Senate-approved OMB officials" -- each day that President Obama's budget is late.
The president's budget will be more than two months late when released on the expected date of April 8.
Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) introduced the “No Budget, No OMB Pay Act of 2013" as an amendment today.
“It’s hard to understand how—after 4 years of doing nothing—Senate Democrats are finally offering a budget and the president is still lagging behind them. The president’s budget is now 45 days late, leaving the American people on a path of out of control spending," Cornyn said.
“Texans who do not do their jobs do not get paid and neither should officials at the OMB. This amendment will make the Administration accountable for its inaction and set a standard for fiscal leadership.”
Congressional Republicans have been needling Obama for being on time with all of his March Madness NCAA brackets but missing four out of five budget deadlines.
"There are no new tax increases – you don’t need it. Why do you have to wait? Why does the public have to wait to have a bigger crisis?" House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press.
