McConnell Going to Get GOP Challenger This Week
It seems that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will have a GOP primary challenger in his quest for a sixth term.
Louisville-based investment manager Matt Bevin recently met with conservative groups as "Matt Bevin for Senate" reserved airtime in Kentucky markets beginning this week.
On Wednesday at 10 a.m., Bevin is scheduled to "announce his intentions" outside the Kentucky State Capitol in Frankfort. He then has events in Newport and Louisville.
His team said it will be "the kick-off of a 3-day event with eight campaign stops across the state."
McConnell already has a challenger on the Democratic side, Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, who still has yet to build out her campaign website or get an organized effort off the ground.
A super PAC in support of McConnell, Kentuckians for Strong Leadership, is hitting at Grimes this week in campaign ads.
The minority leader is far ahead of the pack so far in both fundraising and campaign apparatus.
