Wednesday's HOT MIC

Here is your HOT MIC for today.

Missed this incredible moment yesterday.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez stomped out of the State of the Union address in a huff Tuesday, just as Republicans broke into a "USA" chant.

Via Fox News Insider:

President Donald Trump had just finished mentioning the Statue of Freedom atop the Capitol building, which he then called a "monument to the American people."

In that section of remarks, Trump also praised veterans in wars from the Revolution, through World War II and today, mentioning sites like Saratoga, N.Y., Yorktown, V.A. and the Pacific theater.

As half of the gallery broke into a "USA" chant, Gutierrez (D-Ill.) could be seen exiting his aisle seat and walking out of the chamber.

What a sweetheart that guy is, huh?

House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes issued the following statement today in response to the FBI's statement today "slamming" the FISA abuse memo:

“Having stonewalled Congress’ demands for information for nearly a year, it’s no surprise to see the FBI and DOJ issue spurious objections to allowing the American people to see information related to surveillance abuses at these agencies. The FBI is intimately familiar with ‘material omissions’ with respect to their presentations to both Congress and the courts, and they are welcome to make public, to the greatest extent possible, all the information they have on these abuses. Regardless, it’s clear that top officials used unverified information in a court document to fuel a counter-intelligence investigation during an American political campaign. Once the truth gets out, we can begin taking steps to ensure our intelligence agencies and courts are never misused like this again.”

Gird your loins:

Allahpundit explains:

What a sh*tshow the next few weeks are going to be. If the FBI feels obliged to respond to the memo publicly, in a test of credibility with the Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee, before it’s even been released then a waterfall of leaks from both sides is on the way. The NYT and WaPo will be publishing daily scoops about the original FISA warrant targeting Carter Page and allegations about federal agents and Republican pols lying shamelessly to cover their asses over various improprieties well into March.

If you missed Salena Zito's latest, here's the link.

Donald Trump is still the man to this Pennsylvania home.

And a pro tip: Never miss Salena's latest. She's in my estimation the best shoe-leather reporter covering national politics, and really the only one in 2015-16 who recognized the existence of potential Obama-to-Trump voters. You know, the voters who delivered OH, PA, MI, and WI -- and the White House.

But I was taken by this quote from a suburban woman at the end of Salena's report:

“This speech is about us, there were no mentions of ‘I’ or ‘me.’ All he did was talking about taking us to a better place, it was aspirational, compassionate and strong,” she said.

And "refreshing." Don't forget "refreshing."

This certainly will shake things up:

Is Gowdy (R-S.C.) angling for a position — or even the top job — at Justice?

It should be noted that Gowdy has a book coming out this spring, co-authored with Sen. Tim Scott (also R-S.C.)
