Alabama Special Election Liveblog

Alabama exit polls: Blacks turned out.

CNN's David Chalian says African-Americans turned out in the same kind of numbers as they did for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012.

Republicans (43 percent) outnumber Democrats (37 percent), with a sizable chunk of Independents (20 percent). Evangelicals make up 43 percent of the vote — less than 2012. More than half (54 percent) oppose abortion.

Here are 5 take-aways from Doug Jones' victory — perhaps premature? — over Roy Moore. Why Moore lost, why Jones won, and why the Senate is not necessarily "in play."

Just in:

His loss is not within the margin for an automatic recount, but it sounds like Moore will call for one anyway.

You didn't really think it was going to be over tonight, did you?

Working on a digest about the election: why Jones won, why Moore lost, key things to watch going forward. Expect that in Trending in a little while.

Celebrities thank Alabama.

Captain America thanks you.
