Tuesday's HOT MIC
This spoof on Antifa from The Onion is on point:
Language warning ...
BERKELEY, CA—Vowing to derail whichever event it is by any means necessary, local Antifa organizers announced plans Monday to disrupt an upcoming neo-Nazi rally or whatever else is going on that day. “We will stop at nothing to prevent these vile fucking neo-Nazi hatemongers from gathering, or, if not them, someone else,” said Sarah Jackson, 26, adding that the only way to end the spread of fascism is to physically confront Nazis, peaceful right-wing protesters, or just random people going about their daily lives. “We need to tell these Hitler-loving fucks or whoever else is standing there, ‘Get out of our city!’ Remember, we’re talking about white supremacist terrorists, people running errands on their lunch breaks, or a group of tourists, so if we have to throw a punch or two, then so fucking be it.” At press time, black-clad Antifa demonstrators screaming “Fascists, go home!” had swarmed a Scandinavian street festival.
Funny stuff, but a little too close to the truth for comfort.
Relief available for small business owners affected by the hurricane:
In general news about Harvey, the mayor of Houston made this announcement a little while ago:
He's back! Be still my beating heart! This guy just can't be stopped! Identified as a Houston SWAT team member who is carrying women and babies out of danger. With muscles bulging (and probably blinding feminists with his toxic maleness) superman Daryl Hudeck has now been spotted rescuing puppies. Ovaries are exploding all over America. He appears to be posing for a calendar without knowing it. Two months are already spoken for -- can we get to the other ten, please? I give you the men of Texas. (***low long whistle***)
For more wanton and totally insensitive and microaggressive displays of maleness, see Twitchy's latest:
Some good information (just retweeted by @POTUS) for those who pitch in and help those affected by Harvey:
Officer down in Houston:
Sgt. Steve Perez, 60, died on Sunday morning during Harvey, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner confirmed during a news conference Tuesday. Perez was heading to work when he was caught in floodwaters.
Houston Police recovered Perez's vehicle at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
"He was trying different routes, and took a wrong turn," one unidentified high-ranking official told the Houston Chronicle on Tuesday. Turner tweeted that Perez drove two and a half hours ahead of work, looking for a safer route to report for duty.
At 52 inches, Harvey has already smashed the record for the most rainfall from a single tropical storm in Texas. And they're not out of the woods, yet.
But southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana still would see "relentless torrential rains," with another 6 to 12 inches of rain across the upper Texas coast through Friday as Harvey continues to move slowly east over the Gulf of Mexico maintaining tropical storm force winds of 45 mph, the National Hurricane Center said.
File under just desserts. A Florida professor has been relieved of his job for tweeting his vile wishes that Texans deserved Hurricane Harvey. Ken Storey tweeted this in the aftermath of Harvey (and his is not even the worst tweet out there by a lot).
It makes you wonder, with all the accusations being flung from the left toward the right accusing us of hatred and inhumanity, how they think anyone is buying it when stuff like this keeps happening. If you want to lose even more faith in humanity, see Twitchy's round up of the worst anti-Trump tweets targeted at the red state of Texas during this terrible disaster.
Meanwhile, Texans doing what Texans do (displaying vile, toxic masculinity) and saving the day. Swoon. If I were single, I'd be headed to Texas to get me one of these. Just sayin'.
If you saw that heart-wrenching tweet showing a group of seniors sitting helplessly in dirty water in a flooded nursing home in the Houston area the other day, you'll be happy to know that they were rescued later that day and are now doing well.
Timothy McIntosh, the man who first posted the viral tweet, later thanked the National Guard and the Galveston City Emergency crew for rescuing the senior citizens.
This is no biggie compared to Melania's spiked heels today, right?
Oh well -- as former Obama campaign bus driver and NSC spokesman Tommy Vietor would say, "dude, that was like two years ago!"
Atheist defends Joel Osteen's church after Hurricane Harvey.
Patheos's "friendly atheist," Hemant Mehta, defended Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church.
It’s tempting to bash the Osteens. Believe me, I would love to point out the hypocrisy of a Prosperity Gospel preacher leaving poor people out in the cold. It’s easy for an atheist to criticize a wealthy pastor for offering only prayers in a time of need when he could be doing so much more.
But that’s just not the reality of the situation.
As Lakewood Church has pointed out on its social media, the church is literally “inaccessible due to severe flooding.” That’s referring to the roads and highways leading to the church, but one reporter notes that the underground parking garage is flooded as well. In addition, think of the chaos it would create to invite thousands of people into the building — knowing that many more may be trying to get in — and the amount of people and resources they would need to manage everyone. By turning the church into a temporary shelter, it may create more problems than it solves.
The church actually has a history of helping people during natural disasters, so it’s not like this is part of a pattern where they turn their backs on their community in a time of need. After a tropical storm in 2001, the church became a shelter for about 5,000 people. And just last year, after local floods in April, Lakewood held a benefit concert with all proceeds going to the Greater Houston Storm Relief Fund.
The point is: I’m sure they’d open up the building as a shelter if they could. (Just think of how much good publicity they’d get!) The fact that they haven’t done it suggests they’re unable to help, not that they’re refusing to help.
That said, for a guy who makes as much money as he does, Osteen could earn some goodwill by announcing any donations he’s making in the wake of the disaster. He hasn’t done that yet. Instead, he’s just rattling off a bunch of prayers as usual.
Here's more Osteen criticism on PJ Media. He preaches the "prosperity gospel," an unbiblical approach to Christianity. Even so, his track record on service is positive, and his church is blameless in this situation. Don't believe the hype.
From the "Activist Judges Are a Cancer" file:
The notion that the most vaunted print and online news entity in America simply made an "oops" by publishing a lie that had been debunked for years is absurd. It was most definitely deliberate character assassination. As I said earlier on Twitter, the modern day MSM aren't an embodiment of the First Amendment, they're a perversion of it.
