A visit to Crazytown or a practical joke? You be the judge!
Unlike Trump, Waters is a champion of the people. She started working in segregated restaurants at the age of 13 and fought her way out of poverty while Trump was living in the lap of luxury, attending private schools and enjoying the life of privileged millionaire. The work ethic that Waters picked up as a teenager pushed her to be a person with the heart to fight against the Apartheid regime in South Africa and the courage to be one of the few to speak out against the war in Iraq. Meanwhile, I’ve yet to see Trump take a stand on an issue that wasn’t directly connected to his ego.
Today on Salon 5 we will discuss Waters, her amazing political talents, and why we millennials love her so much. Watch the video to learn more about why Maxine Waters should be our next president.

More cultural enrichment from the Religion of Cultural Enrichment, medical division:
The Department of Justice indicted and arrested Detroit emergency room doctor Jumana Nagarwala on multiple charges Thursday, alleging she performed a number of illegal female genital mutilations (FGM) from 2005 and 2017. Her victims are minor girls, some as young as six years old.
“Despite her oath to care for her patients, Dr. Nagarwala is alleged to have performed horrifying acts of brutality on the most vulnerable victims,” Acting Assistant Attorney General Blanco said in a statement. “The Department of Justice is committed to stopping female genital mutilation in this country, and will use the full power of the law to ensure that no girls suffer such physical and emotional abuse.”
Sickening details on this primitive custom and the barbarians who practice it at the link above, including the criminal complaint. Good for Jeff Sessions and the Real Americans now running the Justice Department for coming down hard. Not a word about "religious" freedom, or hand wringing about charming Muslim cultural traditions of vibrant diversity. Just handcuffs and, hopefully, life in jail.
As if Canada's descent from a country that punched well above its weight in two world wars and held its head high internationally to a fifth-rate suburb of Minneapolis and Hong Kong wasn't happening fast enough... soon enough you'll be able to toke your way to oblivion from Halifax to Vancouver:
The government of Canada on Thursday released a plan to legalize recreational marijuana use across the country by July 2018. With a solid Liberal majority in government, the plan is widely expected to become law, but it would leave the details of implementation, including commercial regulations, to individual provinces.
The bill’s backers framed it as an effort to reduce adolescent drug use and take profits out of the black market. “Criminal prohibition has failed to protect our kids and our communities,” Bill Blair, parliamentary secretary to the Justice Minister and one of the architects of the legislation, said at a news conference. The bill will “make Canada safer,” added Blair, a former Toronto police chief.
Um, no. What it will do, however, is make Canada stupider. If the U.S. thinks it has a security problem on its southern border, wait til it sees what Canada eventually becomes.
Former IRS senior executive Lois G. Lerner told a federal court this week that she faces the possibility of death threats if her role in the tax agency’s tea party-targeting becomes public, and asked a judge to forever seal her upcoming deposition in a class action lawsuit brought by hundreds of groups that were targeted.
Mr. Lerner and Holly Paz, another figure from the IRS tea party targeting, told the judge they’ve already faced “harassment and death threats” before, and said they fear another media firestorm if their version of events from the tea party targeting were to become public. The two women said they are willing to testify, but said they could be putting “their lives in serious jeopardy.”
“Mss. Lerner and Paz have demonstrated that the public dissemination of their deposition testimony would expose them and their families to harassment and a credible risk of violence and physical harm,” they said in documents submitted by their lawyer to Judge Michael R. Barrett.
The two women submitted secret evidence to the judge that they said backed up the death threat claim. They said the threats they’ve already gotten contained “graphic, profane and disturbing language” that they said has caused them.
Operative words: "they said."
The abuse of American citizens by Lerner -- who notoriously took the Fifth rather than testify honestly to Congress in the IRS scandal -- was outrageous, but the media's love for their Beloved Barry & Co. kept the lid on the necktie parties. Now the woman behind it all wants us to take pity on her. Typical lefty, trying to escape the consequences of her actions and possible crimes, and asking for her testimony to be sealed in order to do so. Now that's chutzpah.
Facebook refused to remove child porn and ISIS videos, even after users had flagged them, according to Britain's The Times.
"Last month The Times created a fake profile on Facebook to investigate extremist content," Alexi Mostrous, the paper's head of investigations reported Thursday. "It did not take long to come across dozens of objectionable images posted by a mix of jihadists and those with a sexual interest in children."
Mostrous reported that a Times reporter posed as an IT professional in his thirties, befriended more than 100 supporters of the Islamic State (ISIS), and joined groups promoting lewd or pornographic images of children. He then "flagged" many of the images and ISIS videos.
According to the report, Facebook kept the images and videos up until The Times made a press inquiry. Read more here: Facebook Refuses to Remove Flagged Child Pornography, ISIS Videos

Sure enough, British GCHQ was intercepting Trump associates and passing the data to the US.
Washington (CNN)British and other European intelligence agencies intercepted communications between associates of Donald Trump and Russian officials and other Russian individuals during the campaign and passed on those communications to their US counterparts, US congressional and law enforcement and US and European intelligence sources tell CNN.
The communications were captured during routine surveillance of Russian officials and other Russians known to western intelligence. British and European intelligence agencies, including GCHQ, the British intelligence agency responsible for communications surveillance, were not proactively targeting members of the Trump team but rather picked up these communications during what's known as "incidental collection," these sources tell CNN.
H/T to Walter Thomas in the comments.
Jazz Shaw has a theory why Lansing, Michigan chickened out so quickly:
What did get their attention was the more than six million dollars in federal money which the city receives each year. On top of that, Bishop reminded them that there is currently a bill being considered in the state legislature which would shut off state level funds to sanctuary cities as well. That’s a pretty big hole to blow in the budget of a city which is already having trouble paying its bills.
And at the same time, the City Council members might have noticed the unexpectedly large number of people who showed up at the next meeting wearing their Make America Great Again hats and looking rather displeased. Thinking back to November, the area around Lansing actually overperformed for Trump, not to mention the Republicans running for Congress. Sure, the city center has plenty of Democrats, but are you really all that secure in your political futures that you want to pull this move?
It's always about money and votes with these people.
Yeah, Paula-- so much for representative democracy, right? Congressman Tells Audience It's 'Bullcrap' That His Constituents Pay His Salary
What do you do when the door slams shut on your only opportunity for a prestigious job in the White House?
Well, you could cash in (to the tune of $2 million) with a tell-all book about the contentious campaign, complete with details about your disgraced husband's uncontrollable sexting habit.
