Bernie Sanders is championing this man who is traveling to D.C. to testify, despite his ALS. This man's journey is inspiring, but it does not prove that health care is a human right. Health care is a good and service delivered from doctors to patients, and doctors should be compensated for their labor. I would love for everyone to get the treatment they need, and I'm searching for Christian ministries that help to provide that for the poor, free of charge.
But it is not the government's job to make sure everyone gets health care, because that would amount to deputizing all doctors as an arm of the state.
The rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are inalienable and must be protected. But no person has a right to demand the labor of another without compensation, and that is what the demand that health care be considered a human right involves.
