Live Blog

Here is your live blog for the day.

Good Monday morning.

Here is what's on the president's agenda today:

  • The president participates in a roundtable discussion on the economy and tax reform in Burnsville, Minn.

Are we allowed to talk about 9/11?

Recently, a video was revealed of Jew-hater Rep. Ilhan Omar dismissively talking about the 9/11 attacks carried out by Islamic terrorists, describing the perpetrators as "some people" who did "some things." The attack left almost 3,000 people dead, and many first responders sick and dying. But, you know, just "some things."

Omar was properly admonished by a horrified public. But, wait. Not everyone was horrified by Omar's remarks. They were horrified that people were horrified by Omar's remarks. The New York Post responded to the cavalier description of the attack by Islamic terrorists by posting a picture of the burning twin towers informing her about the "some things" she referenced to. Yemeni bodega owners are boycotting the NYP for their cover. Why? What's wrong with showing the worst terror attack on American soil in the history of this country?

President Trump used this opportunity to rip on Omar, who takes plenty of swipes at the president herself.

And now, the virtue signalers are claiming this Trump tweet is an incitement to violence. "Since the President's tweet Friday evening, I have experienced an increase in direct threats on my life — many directly referencing or replying to the President's video. I thank the Capitol Police, the FBI, the House Sergeant at Arms, and the Speaker of the House for their attention to these threats," Omar said in a statement released Sunday evening. Pelosi has stepped in to make sure the Capitol Police are going to protect Omar. (CNN also reproduced only part of Omar's remarks. They left off the part about "some people did some things." Clever.)

I wonder what kind of death threats the president gets as the #resistance media spends every single moment demonizing him as evil and declaring him the new Hitler? I wonder what kind of death threats Brett Kavanaugh got (gets?) after the media gave unfettered air time to absurd claims of rape rooms and roofies from the client of disgraced clown Michael Avenatti? What about death threats against Kirstjen Nielsen, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Betsy DeVos. The media and the left love to go after Republican women.

My how this situation is treated differently than say, the Covington Catholic episode. The left and the media, but I repeat myself, told us that the boys wearing the MAGA hats exercising their free speech should expect to be derided and get death threats. After all, they were wearing MAGA hats. They asked for it. But here, Omar should be allowed to make her political speech and she should not be criticized. Such a double standard.

Bernie asks his wife why she doesn't pay more taxes...

She's not the one running for president.

You don't have to be French or even Catholic to have your heart broken by this sight.

Horrors of Tax Day.

April 15 is a day that goes down in infamy. Not just because of the Notre Dame fire, but also because Abraham Lincoln died on April 15, 1865 and the RMS Titanic sank on April 15, 1912.

When I was there last November, Notre Dame celebrated the Armistice of 1918, which ended the First World War. The cathedral had flags from countries around the world.

Anything newsworthy this weekend? I avoided the news, preferring instead to do my three favorite things: Drink too much while staying up too late, chatting too loudly with dear friends.

Notre Dame update.

The fire is under control, but it has destroyed the heart of the cathedral at the heart of Paris. Read more here.

Last year, my wife and I spent three days in Paris. On the last night, I felt compelled to brave the cold and walk back to see Notre Dame one last time. Little did I know it would be the last time I would see the magnificent cathedral before so horrific a tragedy.

SMOD makes me feel like such a slacker, pushing for comparatively small-change proposals like the Fair Tax.

No matter though. SMOD has made these same promises year after year, but never delivers.

Aren’t you tired of SMOD’s broken promises? I know I am.

That’s why for 2020 I’m switching my support to Yellowstone Caldera — the extinction-level event you can trust.

Sigh. How is this necessary or even slightly helpful?

It's getting worse:

Oh no...
