Trump's prime time speech on border security
I did not watch it live — 9 p.m. is my bedtime — but I did catch up this morning. If you also missed it you can watch it here and read the transcript.
Chuck and Nancy (aka your parents after you spilled Bartles & Jaymes wine coolers on the new carpet in the living room Saturday night back when you were in high school) gave a response to Trump. If you haven't seen it, here it is courtesy of the Daily Caller, which has kindly presented it with various Snapchat filters. (You can read their lecture here.)
The water cooler version: Trump gave a speech from the Oval Office. He explained directly to the people, without the delusions and hysteria of the anti-Trump media, why we need the funding to maintain the integrity of our borders and why we need a physical deterrent along with extra labor to support border enforcement. The president spoke about the drugs and terrorists coming into our country unchecked because of our inability to lock down the southern border and he spoke about the humanitarian crisis of thousands of people, some sick, traveling to the U.S. and now living in makeshift housing waiting to get "processed."
Much of what Trump asked for came from the people on the ground, like the Border Patrol and DHS, asking for what they need to enforce the border and the law.
The left's response was the same as it always is, ignoring the specifics of Trump's requests and attacking a fantasized, made-up caricature of what Trump is trying to do. There's no crisis, we don't need a wall, those are all racist. Same old, same old from them.
One obstacle to negotiations with the Democrats is that they just ignore the information Trump is presenting. They don't address how many women and children and drugs are trafficked, they don't address how many terrorists are able to sneak in, they don't address the criminal illegal aliens who enter into the U.S. and kill or hurt Americans. For example, here is ABC News to undermine the president with a story from the State Department (deep state ground zero) saying there is "no credible evidence'" that terrorists have entered the U.S. through the southern border. How would the State Dept. know what is going on with the southern border? They aren't there. That's DHS and Border Patrol, the agency you all are ignoring.
Can you have a conversation with people who deny or ignore your facts? Not really. And what's most peculiar is that all these Democrats were perfectly fine with building a wall/fence/barrier before Trump ran for president.
Is the wall immoral? If so, let's start taking down the wall we *do* have at the border. And then let's take down all the security around the houses of Chuck and Nancy.
Who else will donate? Manchin to donate salary during government shutdown to food banks

Well, it helps when you care more about furthering a narrative than getting the facts right.
