Good Tuesday morning.
Here is what's on the president's agenda today:
- 9 p.m.: The president addresses the nation
Trump to address the nation tonight
President Trump will address the nation tonight at 9 p.m. to talk about border security. All the major networks will carry the speech. Oh, and Politico wants you to now that "According to The Washington Post Fact Checker, Trump has made 1,130 false or misleading claims about immigration since taking office."
Right, does the WaPo have any credibility left? No.
According to the WH, Trump's remarks will last no more than eight minutes. "Mr. Trump is expected to address the partial shutdown, the border crisis and the deadline for federal workers' paychecks."
CNN warns its readers that Trump has no credibility on immigration. Takes one to know one, I guess. Are you sensing a pattern here with the media? Trump isn't credible, that's the message. But Trump isn't the one who tricked people into the thinking there was a problem with our immigration system. The people were already there. Trump only reinforced what they already knew.
Trump has spent years exploiting immigration -- one of the nation's most divisive fault lines -- during an insurgent campaign and a presidency sustained by the fervor of his committed political base.
But now, the downside of that strategy is becoming evident. In his attempt to convince the nation that a genuine crisis is unfolding at the southern border, the President's arguments face extreme skepticism from those not already in his camp.
I look forward to it and hope I can stay up that late. As a bonus, Trump's remarks are never as entertaining as the media's response. It's gonna be lit, yo, so I hope I can stay up to watch the media freak out afterward. What are you expecting from the president? Tell me in the comments.
The Democrats demand time too!
Chuck, Nancy, and the gang also want time to address the nation.
“Now that the television networks have decided to air the president’s address, which if his past statements are any indication, will be full of malice and misinformation, Democrats must immediately be given equal airtime," Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) said in a joint statement on Monday night.
CNN said it will carry the Democrats' response live.
The Democrats in the House have offered a package to open the government without the $5.7B the president wants to protect the border. They believe that since they won the House, the American people want them to stop the president's agenda. But 63M people voted for Trump and his agenda. What about those people?
Your Daily WTF:
Historical picture of the day:
Cross this sh!thole restaurant off your list: Red Lobster will no longer advertise on Tucker Carlson's Fox News show after he made controversial comments about women's pay and immigrants
And that's all I've got, now go beat back the angry mob!
How bad was "Cryin' Chuck" and San Fran Nan's rebuttal tonight?
Even the uber liberal sfgate.com is making fun of them:
This was not a good night for the Dems, folks.
First on PJ Media!
PragerU has filed another lawsuit against Google and YouTube. Read the breaking story here.
I'm working on a story about an explosive lawsuit in the area of big tech censorship — PJ Media is going to break the story later tonight, so stay tuned. It will be in the Trending section.
I beg to differ with my colleagues. What the swells on Twitter have to say about Trump, Schumer, and Pelosi may occasionally be amusing but is totally irrelevant, Jonah Goldberg especially (he made his NeverTrump bed years ago and he's sticking to it). Indeed, Twitter is rapidly becoming totally irrelevant — and not just because Glenn Reynolds had the brains and courage to quit.(I'm still a coward, but I'm getting there.) Trump did very well tonight because he gave a conventional presidential speech — something the hoi polloi have been endlessly informed he was incapable of. By comparison, Pelosi and Schumer looked embalmed, which they well could be. The few people left in our culture who sit on the fence (no pun intended) were most likely more impressed with Trump, who looked human compared to the two morticians. Meanwhile, I nominate Chuck Schumer for the worst hypocrite in Congress. But that's scarcely new. If I were an Israeli, I'd strip him nude and send him out in the Negev with the Bedouins (known as the Bedoot in Lawrence) for his two-faced behavior on the Iran Deal. What human scum he is.
