I had some not-small hopes pinned on Angela Merkel back in the early days of her chancellorship. She was the first Chancellor of reunified Germany to come from the Communist German "Democratic" "Republic," and she talked a good game about what she learned growing up in a police state. You had to figure she had a hard-won wariness of the power of Big Government.
And instead she's been the statist bull in the German china shop.
Honestly, from energy policy to the "migrant" hordes and everything in between, I can't think of a single one of her single-minded decisions that hasn't made things worse for Germany in particular and Europe in general.
And yet the Germans won't be rid of her -- so what is to be done?
