Lieberman and Portman Mark D-Day with FDR Prayer on Senate Floor
"Faith in God has played a pivotal role in American history every day since the Declaration of Independence," Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) reminded his Senate colleagues today.
Watch the colloquy with Sens. Lieberman and Rob Portman (R-Ohio) as they recite the prayer that FDR shared in a radio address 68 years ago on D-Day. Portman and Lieberman have introduced a bill to install in the area of the World War II Memorial a plaque or inscription with Roosevelt's words.
Lieberman then cited Roosevelt in saying that World War II led to the defeat of "unholy forces," and noted how Americans can face today's challenges with faith in God.
