Indiana: Mourdock Loses to Blue Dog Dem
Indiana state treasurer Richard Mourdock (R) fell short in the final stretch of his bid to replace longtime incumbent Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) by losing to Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) in today's general election.
With 65 percent of precincts reporting, the Blue Dog Democrat led the Tea Party favorite 48.3 percent to 45.7 percent.
In a televised debate on Oct. 23, Mourdock said he believes “even if life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.” Dems pounced and Mourdock explained his pro-life convictions.
Unlike Akin, there was no throwing under the bus and NRSC chairman John Cornyn (R-Texas) put out a statement supporting Mourdock -- and pointing out that Donnelly is also anti-abortion.
