Great News: Hundreds of Thousands of 'Non-Essential' Government Bureaucrats Are Back on the Job!
So, the past three weeks changed, basically, nothing.
The government reopened its doors Thursday after a battle-weary Congress approved a bipartisan measure to end a 16-day partial shutdown and avert the possibility of an economy-jarring default on US obligations.
Early Thursday, President Barack Obama signed the measure, which the House and Senate passed late Wednesday, ending a brawl with Republicans who tried to use the must-pass legislation to mount a last-ditch effort to derail the president’s landmark health care law and demand concessions on the budget.
The White House directed all agencies to reopen promptly and in an orderly fashion. Furloughed federal employees across the country are expected to return to work Thursday.
Yadda yadda yadda. His Majesty Barack I has lifted the siege at the Lincoln Memorial! Privately managed parks can re-open and start paying into the Treasury again! The National Park Service can stop chasing veterans and resume chasing squirrels!
Meanwhile, we have a gigantic government that will only get bigger, and we will be back to haggling over spending in a few weeks because Obama and the Democrats refuse to live under an actual budget. They believe the law and math itself do not apply to them.
There do remain a couple of outstanding issues. We're still on track to spend enough to land us in bankruptcy. The National Park Service unmasked itself as a brownshirted outfit that was a little too happy to lock old people in hotels and barrycade parking spots on the GW Parkway at their liege's whim. Who knew that under those stiff-brimmed hats lurked the snarling face of raw statism? Like the IRS, the NPS needs to be cleaned out.
And Obamacare is a horrendous mess. It's actually in full-blown crisis, though much of its crisis is a product of design. Sebelius needs to be fired, but that was true for her lawbreaking and for the abortifacient mandate. Now it's just more true, because she's a hacktastic flop who is such a failure that she can't even properly manage failure.
Obamacare still delenda est.
