Gallup: Record High Say Big Government is the Greatest Threat to the US
Subheadline: Welcome to conservatives' and libertarians' world, everyone.
PRINCETON, NJ -- Seventy-two percent of Americans say big government is a greater threat to the U.S. in the future than is big business or big labor, a record high in the nearly 50-year history of this question. The prior high for big government was 65% in 1999 and 2000. Big government has always topped big business and big labor, including in the initial asking in 1965, but just 35% named it at that time.
Oddly enough, the millions started seeing big government as a big threat in 2009. Note the right end of the graph.
Fearing big government has a lot to do with Obama, Obamacare, the NSA spying scandals, and the left's general love and promotion of big government as the solution to all things (unless a Republican happens to be president). Therefore the growing fear is one more log to toss on the fire that is engulfing Obama's presidency. He has literally one approach to every issue -- expand government. From your healthcare to the Second Amendment to everything, he wants to grow government despite its and his own record of failure. Someone should be able to use Obama's fringe philosophy against him.
If only there was a principled party that was capable of turning this strong and growing public sentiment into an election message next year. Wouldn't it be nice to live in a world where we had a party that was capable of expressing that message, and basing it on their own actions? I would very much like to live in that world.
