EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson Resigns
One of the most authoritarian members of the Obama government is departing.
Environmental Protection Agency Administration Lisa Jackson says she's stepping down after nearly four years on the job.
Jackson announced her departure in a statement Thursday. She gave no particular reason for leaving but said she was ready for new challenges, time with her family and new opportunities to make a difference.
Jackson leaves a legacy of militant regulation aimed not at protecting the environment, but at pushing the US toward energy sources that are unproven and not yet ready to fuel the world's largest economy. Her war on coal should have cost her boss his job.
Just a few days before Christmas, Jackson's EPA finalized the Boiler MACT rule. That single regulation may cost US manufacturers as much as $14 billion. That rule was the third multi-billion dollar regulation finalized in December 2012 alone. So, good riddance. Obama is likely to nominate an equally radical successor, but Republicans should take the opportunity to expose the administration's overbearing hostility to commerce and manufacturing.
