Campaign Urges Boehner to 'Drop the Pledge' to Fight Contraception Mandate
For Senate Republicans, today is a day to strike out against ObamaCare on its two-year anniversary. For one Senate Democrat, it's a day to bring up the contraception controversy again.
Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) released a video accusing Republicans of trying to turn back the clock on women's health while Democrats are busy fixing the economy. It focuses on -- and urges abandonment of -- the pledge House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) made to keep fighting the HHS mandate for contraception to be provided free of co-payments.
All 12 Democratic women senators wrote Boehner earlier in the month, saying "women have had enough" and asking him to abandon his pledge.
Murray has also enlisted groups such as NARAL and Planned Parenthood to push the #DropThePledge hashtag on Twitter.
