Breaking: Former AG Ed Meese Signs Letter Supporting Rep. Michele Bachmann
Reagan-era Attorney General Edwin Meese has joined a long list of conservative heavyweights today, in support of Rep. Michele Bachmann's quest to root out Muslim Brotherhood influence on the US State Department. The letter, signed by Meese along with David Barton, former US ambassador Kenneth Blackwell, Gary Bauer, former Rep. David McIntosh, James Dobson, Star Parker and others, is addressed to Speaker of the House John Boehner. It expresses concern over the criticism that has been levied at Bachmann and other Republican representatives in recent weeks.
"Neither Rep. Bachmann nor Reps. Louie Gohmert, Trent Franks, Tom Rooney or Lynn Westmoreland, in their letter of June 13 to the Inspectors General of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice and the Department of State 1, insulted any individuals nor made antagonistic comments about the Islamic religion. Rather, pursuant to public statements by some of the Obama Administration’s own officials and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) testimony given in U.S. courts 2, they have raised legitimate questions about the ongoing contacts between organizations linked (by our government itself) to Islamism and federal agencies and officials."

Rep. Eric Cantor, the Republicans' majority leader in the US House, has also come out defending Bachmann and her group's inquiry into the possibility that the Muslim Brotherhood, which now is poised to take power in Egypt, is unduly influencing the State Department. Rep. Bachmann has come under fire from Democrats, the media and some Republicans.
