AGREED: Apple and Moto will drop a combined 14 patents from their Florida lawsuit, which if I’ve read correctly is more convoluted than a Saturday night get-together at Caligula’s place.

These patent suits have gotten tiresome, and don’t seem to settle anything other than just how broken our patent system is.

Broken or not, without it, the music stops. The pressure to produce patentable goodies is significant in any R&D shop in virtually every aspect of the tech industry.

the purpose is no longer to settle things. no longer to protect intellectual property. we now have a system first to enrich lawyers, second to keep the competition from coming to market with a better product

Not true. Not true at all.

Ignore the games that the big boys play. They're going to find a way to play games one way or another. Patent protection is vital for the independent inventors and small businesses that actually drive long-term economic growth.

And the big technology companies aren't going to provide rapid economic growth for much longer--they're going to hit the upper half of the S-curve, if they haven't already.
