Just You Wait

Just read Bryan’s post about Rep. Robert Brady’s proposal to “ban the use of crosshairs and targets in political ads,” where he echoes Richard’s warning that there’s “probably more to come this week.” My gut reaction was: Just you wait.

Any time there’s a shooting massacre like the one in Arizona on Saturday, the usual gang from Let’s Ban Something shows up, demanding their pet bugaboo be made into federal law. And then the usual gang of “concerned” politicians pipes up to gain favor or money or both.

But this shooting is different. This time the politicians are genuinely frightened by what happened — as perhaps they should be. Which is the nice way of saying there’s no telling what mischief they’ll get up to to protect their own safety, since we’ve seen what lengths they’ll go to in the name of protecting ours.
