Anyone to the "right" of that person is a "right-winger." For many crunchy cons, McCain is a closet lefty, although most liberals consider him conservative, or a wing-nut. On the other hand, those same liberals probably consider Hillary to be centrist, or somewhat conservative (based on her war support, anyway), and think Howard Dean is normal. So. How does Souter's record on the bench establish him on the "left" as opposed to the "right?" Not arguing, just asking. I admit I never researched deeply into Souter’s record. Please. He was never conservative, a reliable vote for the left which is what he'll be replaced with only probably moreso.
