Here here! It’s nice to see someone else who recognizes that this is a pause, not the storm. Nothing is happening right now but logistics, and that isn’t exciting to anybody who doesn’t use the equipment being moved. Go ahead and take a break until we start breaking things and “news” begins to happen again.
Hey, you lazy, selfish bastard! Toss another one down on me! If you are ever in the Baltimore area, look me up. I’ll treat you to the finest Grey Goose in the house!
Kids, don’t think I’ll be making it to the festivities this weekend; I’m not comfortable leaving my baby-carrying bride alone on such short notice and with our menagerie. We should do a small gathering at our abode sometime as we’re more or less halfway between the both of you.
Yes, this is the calm before the storm, better tilt a few back in quiet while it lasts…over at dear_raed, salam pax reports that ALL foreigners have or are packing their bags, and most embassies are like ghost towns, all in the last couple of days (even the chinese and russians have bugged out, all sudden like).
So I think we’ll have more VodkaPostings in the near future, but I’ve mostly been taking a break myself, too.
It’s like a big 39-40 phony war waiting-to-exhale moment.
Wish I had a single malt to go with it, you go Stephen!
Hear, hear. Someone else who has a life outside the computer.
Enjoy your time with your new bride and, if by some weird chance you ever end up in the Raleigh-Durham area, let me know and The Better Half and I will have you over for dinner and drinks. Yee-haa!!
From the same era as Jones’ debut alblum, there’s a Ry Cooder disc (title escapes me), with a first track called “Down in Hollywood” , or “Hollywood”, or some damn thing. I always lump it together with “Danny’s All Star Joint” , because a crazy guy I did business with had one of those two songs blaring on the stereo all the time. This is what I remember about Cooder’s lyrics from that tune:
“Down in Hollywood!
Better hope that ya’ don’t run out of gas
Down in Hollywood!
They’ll drag ya’ right out of your car, and kick your ass!
Down in Hollywood!
They’re standin’ on the corner, just waitin’
for a sucker like you!
Down in Hollywood!
So if ya’ know what’s good for ya’ you’ll just keep on passin’ through”
The beverage of choice of the era was either Dortmunder Union beer or Chivas Regal on the rocks, or both, and I can’t hear either two songs (although it’s been many, many years since I’ve heard Cooder’s), without triggering memories of some some rather, er…shall we say, interesting experiences. I’m rather thankful to be typing this right now.
Will – the Cooder CD is “Bop Till You Drop”, and it is a fine piece of music. The first all digital recording, if I remember correctly.
VP, I know exactly how you feel, I’m at a loss for more ways to say “get going” and “screw the UN”, yada yada yada. I do enjoy picking on Chirac lately though.
I’m sure our troops are getting tired of waiting around too.
Wanna know something really creepy? I heard an interview with Fagen and Becker on NPR and for some reason this site came to mind.
A-men. Nothing makes life a little more bearable like Rickie and a fine single malt.
Enjoy.

Geez, people are giving you a hard time for having a life?
You only just got married and bought a new house.
In case nobody has mentioned it, thanks for the free ice cream!

See ya soon….
One more day! I really can’t bring myself to concentrate on work. Ugh. My boss is gonna kill me , or would if he wasn’t in NY.
There’ll be a laptop and a net connection all weekend, just in case the drunken rant bug bites.

I’m no fun, I know.

you’ve earned it.
plus, you forgot that we come here for the wicked recipes, too.
“Last Chance Texaco” – one of the most haunting songs I’ve ever heard.
“Danny’s All-Star Joint” – one of the *coolest* songs I’ve ever heard.
VP, you’re a class act.
You? Rock. That’s all.

I like it Stephen, and I know the feeling.
You’ll be back. We addicts always come back
Try Rickie Lee’s “Pop-Pop”…and I hope against hope that by “album” you mean the LP. Far superior to the CD…..
You seem more of an analog person than the dry digital type.
What Stephen’s got wow and flutter? *G*
Enjoy fitting out the new digs. We’ll wait.
