Tuning Out a President
Bush Did It All
We have created four million new jobs since January 2009 which is cited as an impressive statistic, although we have also lost far more than four million old jobs, which is why a half million fewer Americans are at work today than in January 2009 — which is nevertheless supposedly good news given that more jobs were “saved” than would have been lost. In olden times, “It’s the economy, stupid” was the reply to 3% plus GDP growth under Bush I, and a “jobless recovery” was the charge against Bush II’s 5.4% unemployment rate. What name does 1.9% GDP growth and 41 months of 8% plus unemployment merit? Or in other words, since a younger Barack Obama damned the Bush record of job creation as dismal in creating only 310,000 jobs per month, what he would say of his own record of 80,000 jobs this month — a number 5,000 smaller than those added to the monthly disability roles? And does anyone remember Obama’s promise of “5 million new green jobs,” or cutting the deficit “in half” by the end of Obama’s first term? You should, since the candidate who swore there should be no more red or blue states declared George W. Bush “unpatriotic” for running up a $4 trillion debt in eight years, which he then trumped in three.
Don’t/Do Drill
This is all so confusing. We have vastly curtailed granting new federal leases for gas and oil exploration in order to discourage fossil fuels, while subsidizing wind and solar. But as the former failed and cost us billions of dollars, gas and oil production on private land skyrocketed despite, not because of, the Obama administration — which now takes no credit for the green energy it squandered, but for America’s increased oil and gas development it ignored. Gas went over $4 a gallon at about the same time that it was announced that newly found U.S. shale oil reserves and natural gas finds now mean the U.S. (with the largest coal reserves) is sitting atop the largest fossil fuel resources in the world. To understand a Solyndra, remember that the president promised that coal-generated electricity plants would bankrupt their owners, that electricity rates would skyrocket, that proper tire pressure would preclude new drilling, and that he might enact the cap and trade protocols the Senate rejected — even as his energy secretary wished gas to reach European price levels.
No One Left to Teleprompter to?
Again, examine any current topic — green jobs, the Chevy Volt, cash for clunkers, the stimulus, tax hikes, ObamaCare, unemployment, amnesty, the debt, the deficits, race relations — and more or less incoherence follows. Either things have gotten worse or what Obama says is either untrue or not consistent with what he earlier had asserted. The result is that when he starts one of those long teleprompted orations, with the dropped g’s and the faux-African-American preaching patois, we still are impressed how the cadences can package the rather empty content and serial half-truths.
None of the above means that Barack Obama is necessarily going to lose the election, and here is why, given the following paradoxes. There are roughly now two groups of tune-outs: the first are the 50% who are either partisan opponents or who have had it with a president who does not speak the truth and blames his own failures on others. The second are the 50% who likewise don’t pay much attention to Obama’s rhetoric anymore, but they assume that mortgage bailouts; loan forgiveness; massive public hiring; more food stamps, unemployment insurance, and disability payments; freedom from income tax; racial and class resentments; and more still all offer, for the poorer, welcome material, and, for the richer, psychic and philosophical, recompense.
In other words, supporters, both the poor and rich, don’t worry all that much what Obama says, but focus instead only on the fact that he either wishes them to have more government stuff or abhors the same people they’ve always abhorred.
But either way, both the president’s critics and his supporters now are tuning him out.

Thank God for the NEW MEDIA in America today. Every day more and more people are starting to see the truth – they were suckered into the biggest bait and switch in American history by a complicit, lapdog MSM that allowed a committed marxist to be elected to the presidency without telling the American people the truth about his upbringing and associations.
Raised as a muslim, mentored by a communist, converted to black liberation theology (aka: marxist racism), befriended by domestic terrorists and his only accomplishment is being a community organizer of rabble and riff-raff (think ACORN). He has been coddled and groomed every step of the way by a radical theology to help him achieve what he cannot achieve on his own. As is the case with almost every democrat today, they have to lie to get elected….if they told us the truth, there would not be very many in office.
This man is an embarrassment and a nincompoop-he is the least qualified man in any room-our enemies laugh at him, and us. It will take years to repair the damage he has done to our economy, our intelligence services, and our armed forces. We get back to work November 6th.
“Every day more and more people are starting to see the truth”
Where? Obama’s approval numbers have not budged in three years.
Don’t worry about approval ratings. Here’s the real juice:
http://thehill.com/polls/236627-hill-poll-majority-feel-obama-has-changed-country-for-worse
SOME people recognize the truth. Unfortunately, too many people still back Obama.
40% of the electorate would vote for Charlie Manson, if he were on the Democratic ticket, rather than vote for a Republican. I know people like that. They wouldn’t admit that a Democratic policy has ever created a problem even if you twisted their arm till it broke. It’s more important to them that their chosen side wins, rather than any meaningful discussion of ideas.
Don’t forget Tom, more Americans than ever before are on the dole. This current crop of young people are incapable of caring about anything other than free rent, free food, Obama phones/video games and “environment”. They are stupid and uneducated because the leftist’s finally seized school control and WANT them stupid and easily lead into the morphia of “free shit” for “the environment”.
Actually, the younger set is becoming disenchanted by Obama. They could care less about health care. Jobs are important to them. Remember how you felt at 18-25? You didn’t need a health plan – all you cared about was earning money and gaining independence.
No, there is NEVER a discussion with a liberal. They refuse to talk politics.
Or sense.
The numbers you refer to are changing and are about to accelerate.
The polls are useless
That’s because almost half of America is receiving government assistance (and the number is growing daily). Those people are going to be Obama supporters no matter how many lies he tells. The checks coming in the mail mean far more to them than what Obama says.
The MSM didn’t even report on Fast and Furious until Pres Transparancy declared executive privledge to cover for someone in his administration calling the shots to do this program. That’s why Romney is fighting an uphill battle. After they show Biden calling for Romney to release his tax records why don’t they do the same to Pres Transparancy about F%F, his college transcripts, his thesis etc.The only reason Obummer is doing well is the y still haven’t vetted him in the MSM
“Every day more and more people are starting to see the truth – ”
And to the extent that is true at all, they just shrug their shoulders and say “they all do it” or “Bush was worse” and continue to support the communist SOB. I don’t see how we effectively oppose him in the middle/moderate/independent electorate so long as the media covers for him. An attempt to go around the media as Reagan did so effectively takes a Reagan, Bush’s attempts were much less successful, and even if Romney wore strident opposition well at all, strident opposition turns off the very electorate we need to reach.
Compound that with the fact that many of those ostensibly on the right/libertarian side of the ditch seem much more interested in their version of a final solution of the RINO problem than in marshalling troops and resources to meet the communist threat. We may be able to eek out a victory, but if it is close they will attempt to steal it and whether they are successful or not the Country will be virtually ungovernable. Comrade Obama assembed a minimum winning coalition of ideologs, scammers, thugs, and parasites none of whom are going to take having their hooves shoved out of the trough very well. If Comrade Obama wins, the government will know no restraint. If Comrade Obama loses, the mob will know no restraint. We are destined to live in interesting times.
a misspelling!
Well, you eked something out of it to correct. ‘Course, that was written at about 5AM ADT.
not revalent to content
We want to avoid a couple million heavily armed patriots descending on Dem bastions like DC, Hollywood, The New York Times… Such a scenario would get real ugly real fast. Thousands (tens? hundreds?) would die, many of them well-meaning liberals who got duped.
At the same time we have to be willing to push things right up to that line. Our counter-attack will have to be verbal and legislative (and prosecutorial where appropriate), but it will likely trigger hysterical pushback from the statist/globalist/collectivist puppet-masters, the unions and the far left interest groups. Who knows how far it will escalate but we have to be willing to take the heat and trade body blows if necessary. Whatever it takes to break the ideological grip these scumbags have on major sectors of our society is what we will have to do. Interesting times indeed.
I doubt anyone is bothering to read this (my words, not VDH’s fine words) but it seems that since BHO and his ilk are fond of stunts, he could easily be sunk by one. How about if, starting 24 days before the election, the Romney camp or one of his supporting organizations begins a “24 Days of Obama’s Lies” (or whatever they want to call it) campaign. Kind of like the German tradition of 24 days before Christmas where you open a window each day before the holiday. Examples:
October 14: Lie 24 – Barack says he will close Guantanamo. Truth – Guantamano is still open
October 15: Lie 23 – If you pass this stimulus, the employment rate will drop to under 8% – Truth: 30 plus months over 8%
October 16: Lie 22 – I will not raise taxes on anyone making under $250,000 per year. Truth – Obamacare
October 17: Lie 21 – [anything from one of his “autobiographies” – Truth: you pick it.
Etc
You get the idea. Anything that turd does after October 15 will be seen as a desperate defense.
Now this is some thinking about how to rid ourselves of these vermin. I suggest you put this same post on Mitt Romney’s website. His stupid handlers could use some help. ABO2012
Jim, You surely hit the nail on the head.I sawa a great interview with Col. / Rep Alan West in which he said note in a response that ” he was not in Romney’s “inner circle” and I turned to my wife and asked ” Why the hell not?”
We have another McCain for our side.
An excellent idea! Please pursue this.
Romney and the GOP MUST get back to work now if not sooner.
They have to penetrate the malaise, the indifference, the “I just don’t give a !@#$” that has permeated most of the nation. And the message they need to broadcast is “Our current President’s record speaks for itself. Here is our plan to make life better for every citizen of the country.”
And if Obama looses he remains in office until January 20, 2013. That’s almost 11 weeks of lame duck executive orders, presidential pardons, and other assorted mischief to deal with. I fully expect things to get ugly.
I will repeat it once again that Romney needs to get Palin on board his campaign. She is the one person that can guaranty and deliver a large block of voters. Imagine for one minute that Romney gets 2,000 people at one of his stops. Throw in Palin by his side and watch the numbers soar. I do not mean using her as a VP but as a supporter. The man has no fire in his belly or his speeches. If they could agree on their mutual message they could bury Obama in a month.
Sarah Palin is an invaluable asset, more than many can even imagine.
Now , that’s a plan, Sarah Palin………….roflmao…… yup, that surly will put the Mittster over the top…….un real…
The Republicans must do this, the Republicans must do that. How pathetic conservatives have become.
Why no mention of the elephant? ROMNEY MUST GO. DEMAND that Romeny give it up, so that a true candidate can be nominated at the convention!
Second….DEMAND that Palin be the VP! Only Palin can bring the third party in. The Tea Party, is THE KEY TO VICTORY, and they WILL NOT VOTE FOR ROMNEY.
The answer is obvious.
“many of those ostensibly on the right/libertarian side of the ditch seem much more interested in their version of a final solution of the RINO problem than in marshalling troops and resources to meet the communist threat”
Art Chance, July 9, 2012 – 5:45 am
They won’t vote for Romney? You think then that they’ll do what? There are only two choices left: voting for Obama and not voting. This is the reason Romney was the best candidate to go up against Obama. Conservatives are NOT going to stay home. Conservatives will vote AGAINST Obama. We’re not the target electorate. The focus needs to be on the independents and moderates – and as many moderate Dems and conservative Dems (yes, I know they’re almost extinct) as can be stripped away from voting in lockstep for Obama. A more moderate Republican is the best choice for this. The problem with Romney is that he needs to get his ass to work stripping those people away from Obama. He needs to hit harder, and more often, on the soft points of Obama’s underbelly. There are many of them. Romney needs to attack it and he needs to start very soon putting out his own vision.
Yes, Romney should be the President of all of the country and speak to the needs of the entire country. Practically speaking, however, he should focus on Moderate Republicans and Independents. As a conservative, hold your nose if you don’t like Romney and resolve to encourage him as President to support conservative causes. Your job as a conservative is to get rid of Obama. Nothing more, and nothing less. Vote him out so that the country may begin to heal.
Spoken like a true troll – a democratic troll. No way Romney ties himself to Palin. Are you kidding me? She would be the anchor that would sink any chance whatsoever of his beating Obama. Romney is a much more deliberate person and will choose someone who complements his own personality – basically someone totally opposite from Palin.
Sarah Palin also has very high negative ratings. She might help with conservative voters (most of which would already vote for Romney), but she will also turn off independents.
All opposed to any of the Democrats running will need to find their spine and stiffen it with truth. Stop this insane mud-slinging and deal with the many hard facts that the Democrats cannot defend. Always speak positively about what will be done and explain why this is the best course for our America and, pardon the word, the hell with what any other nation thinks. We left tired old Europe some 500 years ago and we did something astounding. Now there are many who want us to be more like them and this course must be rejected. Americans and their freedoms created something fine. Forces not at work are doing their best to turn it all into askes. We cannot lose this election for is we do, we lose America.
O’bwana has no more political philosophy than Rev. Wright does. Unless “black, good; white, bad” qualifies. How many Coalman Youngs and Marion Berrys do you people have to sit through before you get the picture (I lived under both, BTW). The simple fact is that this administration is working 24/7 to make whites’ de facto position as second-class citizens into an institutionlized, de jure one. That’s why voting-rights laws don’t apply when white voters are bullied. Why any white-on-black crime (or Duke lacrosse non-crime) is almost automatically racist (call in the FBI!!!!!), but no black-on-white crime, of any type whatsoever, is ever a hate-crime. The only logical explanation of these facts has to be that blacks have privileges that whites do not enjoy. Anyone denying this is a liar or a fool.
Re a liar or a fool.
Mayhaps they should be considered both.
jl
I concur with most of this article; however, will you all please stop using the term “African-American” when writing or speaking about the black population? Seriously, what are they called in England? Italy? Germany? Answer: Black
The term “African-American” is politically driven so that blacks feel better about their race. I have news, if you are any color and are a citizen of the USA, you are simply an American, something that should make you feel good enough. If you don’t believe me, go visit about any other country you desire.
Since the human species evolved in Africa, all Americans are “African Americans,” and all human beings are “African-. . .”
Obama has as much in common with Black Americans as I have. His father was an African immigrant and never had any association with former slaves children until he went to Columbia, where there is a mostly rich white population. I’m sure he didn’t associate with the neighborhood people unless it was to buy his cocaine and smoke his weed (Why didn’t he go to Moorhouse or Howard if he wanted to be around black people?). He just uses Black Americans. Notice how he hangs out with rich White Americans all the time, unless there’s a camera near by.
The Englsih press and politicians often refer to Obama by the more descriptive and true, “mixed race”. One drop does not make you black in Europe.
Another factor that troubles me is the “empty barrel syndrome” that is tailor-made for an emerging entitlement society.
Do you remember this actual incident at an Obama campaign rally?
“I never though this day would come! Now, I don’t have to worry about putting
gas in my car or paying my mortgage. I help him [Obama], and he helps me!”—–Peggy the Moocher (Florida, 2008)
I wonder how many nitwits like Peggy are infesting the electorate.
How many? My fear is that it is at least as many as there were in 2008. I wonder if Peggy is worry-free after almost four years of having gotten her way? I wonder how long Peggy has been out of a job under her Presidential victor’s rule?
We watch from here in Toronto in amazement that this president has not only a large following but any followers.
I think exactly what you do and have for years as it seemed really clear to me as a canuck which direction this guy and his folks where going to take you.
Like the guy from Iran he pretty much told you everything he wants to do.
Not sure why many folks don’t see this….
I hope you folks do the right thing and toss this administration but I’m not counting on it.
Obama’s support for election in 2008 outside the US was about 90 percent. I don’t know what Canada’s numbers were, but I doubt they were a lot lower. I suspect that support has dropped a bit, but not much.
Who non-US citizens think we should elect is profoundly uninteresting to me, but facts are facts. The further left a US politician, the more he is liked outside the US.
nick the voters in this country are brain dead. we are going to hell in a basket and they still want to vote for him.. the blacks the jews a nd hispanics will put him back in. is canada nice place to live. this has been my country for eighty seven years and to think any voter would want to see it brought to its knees by this man is sinful.. maybe canada could pray for us we could use prayers right now . . have good week.

I am sorry for you that you believe being raised Muslim is a liability. It really shows your lack of understanding of the world outside the USA. It’s small-minded and pathetic. I was raised by two Muslims and people always talk about what a nice guy I am.
Hm. That explains why you, just like Obama, don’t “get” America.
I’m a son of a paratrooper who jumped on Corregidor – whose twin brother died outside of Bastogne (101st Airborne) – one of the hundreds of thousands who have paid the ultimate price for liberty. It makes me damn sick that we have such criminals in office. Clinton was a clown but this Obama guy, well – you said it well – thanks for your comment.
As usual an impressive overview. In listing the causes of the 2008 crash I think you came up inadvertently short. The Freddie and Fannie aspect is only part. I bought a apartment in Colorado in 1990 and received no real rental profit until …. Starting with Pres. CLINTON’S 1994 push to make housing affordable for the less affluent, the value of my apartment increased 479% in 2000 (before Bush W. took over the presidency) when I sold it. Clinton’s policy was only sustainable because of Greenspan’s holding interest rates artificially below a free-market value along with Congressional pressure, specially by the Democrates. In general terms, gov. interventionism during the Clinton era constructed the bomb and ignited the fuse, whatever “guilt” Bush may justly or unjustly deserve. The propagandistic trick of the Left, particularly the press, was to turn Democrat causality into Bush’s. (By the way I lost here in Germany about 85% of my Clinton-arranged profits when the crash came. Perverting the Bible: From Clinton I was created and unto Clinton I returned, impoverished.)
An extra note on Irak: My tailor/”clothes repairer” here in Germany is a Kurd from Irak. He holds Bush almost in iconic honor for having saved his people–and he had lost family to Sadam’s atrocities. I have instructed many a German here who passionately condemns Bush to accompany me to my tailor and tell the man that the military “savior” of his people is condemnable. I also suggest, while saying such things, that the person should remain in the doorway so as to advance flight from an angry man.
“we still are impressed how the cadences can package the rather empty content and serial half-truths.”
What? I have never been affected by the “cadences”. Never. All I have ever heard was Charlie brown’s teacher: “Wahh, wahh, wahh.” Nothing he has ever said made any sense to me. It has always been just so much noise. Words either mean something to you, or they do not. When I hear a word used in the wrong fashion, my mind just goes ’tilt’. The sentence is reduced to meaninglessness.
The reason Obama stutters and stammers so much in personal interviews is that he is trying to determine how best to lie. He does not stutter or stammer when telling what he really thinks. When he lies, he purposely misuses words, and the lies register as Peanuts adult-speak. His speeches have always been noise to me.
Another problem is that his speeches are a bunch of disconnected soundbites and applause lines. There is no coherent flow to them, even when he is not lying. It has always just been so much noise to me.
You summed it up brilliantly.
Most people who think clearly speak in a “stream-of-consciousness” manner. The occasional stammer, or hesitance in speaking comes from the mind being engaged in a distracting way which interrupts the speaking process. This happens constantly with Obama. I think you’re right, “he’s thinking how best to lie”.
Not as polished a liar as a slick salesman, he must thus depend on the teleprompter. In interviews, he is delivering pre-rehearsed lines on subjects arranged and pre-approved by his handlers, much in the way dictators are dealt with. “No questions about X” or “Don’t mention Y” are the instructions to anyone doing an interview with the BHO-hole.
Most of us here at PJMedia were on to the guy from the start. Like the dentist in the movie “On Golden Pond” when he addressed Norman, “I know crap when I hear it.”. And this guy is chock-full of it.
I’ve often said that had he been in the military, he wouldn’t have gotten very far simply on his deflection of the truth at every turn.
He always takes the path that satisfies him internally. He is not a conflicted man, nor is he “complex”. He’s very simple and arrogant. The two together make for that recipe we most often see characterized in the media as the “ignorant redneck” but if ever there was a “hold ma beer, watch this” type of president, Obama would be it. In fact, it turns out he is everything he scolds everyone else about.
I think the “We” that Dr Hanson was referring to, was a backhanded slap at the bias of the media, who always scrounge around for a way to canonize Obama for something. And whenever(usually) there is nothing to say about his lies and his rambling rhetoric, they always seem to end up reporting on his wonderful speech making skills. Like you, I have never been impressed with this Communist and his speechifying, but I think you missed the point Dr. Hanson’s off the cuff remark. ABO2012
Good analysis. I think you are right in discerning that all the pauses and stammers stem from an effort to think up a plausible fabrication.
The first time I ever heard Hussein speak was in early 2008. He was giving his “just words” speech and he delivered it very well, I thought. That was a canned speech that he had used many times and he was very effective with it. Since then I have not been much impressed with anything he has said and these days I can’t stand to listen to him at all. He just rehashes the same talking points in his formal speeches and any time he goes off the cuff it is a mess of stutters and stammers while he searches for the most effective spin. And much of what he says is a deliberate effort to incite envy and anger and divide the nation. The whole “great speaker” rep is just another part of the leftist media fabrication that is our president.
Despite this being very, very late, I needed to applaud your comment. Excellent summary of Obama’s speeches, and thank you.
I try to listen to his speeches. I keep a supply of nerf balls to throw at the TV, especially since we bought a flat screen (I’m still, thank heaven, employed). It’s unbelievable to me that people think he’s even a mediocre speaker.
Once again, what ails many Americans also mirrors the Jewish majority body politic in Israel.
Whereas, once upon a time, our leftist, socialist enthralled, never met an Arab he didn’t empathize with,President Peres, used to enjoy a rapturous crowd, this too has passed.
It took the piling up of thousands of Jewish dead bodies, many more maimed for life,to wake the nation up from his hypnotic gaze-’Peace Price’ and all. Basically, once the human wreckage of his signatory Oslo Peace/Death Accords bore fruit, the majority of the thinking public woke up from their stupors, many (rightfully) blaming Peres in the process.
In fact, the only group where he currently enjoys applause hails from his like-minded, smug, elitist clones. No matter. The people/masses aren’t fooled.
Similarly, many are finally ! tuning out to the ‘hope and change’ mantra hypnotically shoveled at them in the last election cycle. They recognize jive-talk when they hear it. Hopefully, it will turn out to be enough of a jolt to throw him out of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for good!
My blog exposes many of the machinations of the left, both in Israel & the US. They are kindred spirits. Twin destroyers of everything that smacks of individual freedom and liberty. Go to – http://www.adinakutnicki.com, to see for yourself.
You’re quite right, Adina, alike as peas in a pod.
And in each case, even when it looks like the people finally aren’t fooled anymore, more often or not, all of a sudden, when the chips are down, boom! — there’s a relapse.
more often *than* not
During President Obama’s major health care speech South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson (R) yelled out “You lie!” when the President said the legislation would not mandate coverage for undocumented illegal immigrants.
Overhead in the visitors’ gallery, first Lady Michelle Obama shook her head from side to side.
-
We now know “You Lie!” has not always been the truth with this president?
It is not an unconstitutional mandate,
4 of the Supremest have said it is a tax,
or is it a tax/penalty?
Never mind,
Joe Biden,
Nancy Putrid, and Mr. Reed will explain it to us.
“Never mind, Joe Biden, Nancy Putrid, and Mr. Reed will explain it to us”. I think not, CSA I would be willing to bet money that these three idiots along with most of congress if not all, haven’t yet taken the time too read the Obamascare bill.
Actually, all you really need to read of any piece of legislation is the sponsor’s name. That will tell you immediately whether to be a yea or a nay. The rest is just details.
Have you tried to read that mess? Basically 2700 pages can be wrapped up in one sentence. “Your government will now pay for all of the health care needs of our nation, and will also determine which of those needs actually apply to you.” Good luck folks. Your government can’t even run a choo-choo train. How are they even going to find enough Doctors and Nurses to take care of 312,000,000 of us? This is the biggest boondoggle ever devised by our government, but soon you will have no choice in this matter. The health care idea is strictly an effort to exert more control over the “citizens”. This is good for the job security of government workers and that is all that ever really matters to the government. This should scare the crap out of any person who will be subjected to Obamacare, but it doesn’t appear to. I observe that this is because it is nicely concealed in these 2700 pages of gift wrapping to make it look like the biggest present under our Christmas trees, and most of us believe we will get more free stuff from the government, which is the only thing that really matters to the “citizens”.
No, America is about freedom, and we abhor this theft of our freedom and our money! America is about freedom, not slavery. We choose freedom, even 236 years later. It is in our blood, freedom! If I do not buy health insurance, I have to pay a huge tax? And others, even illegals, uninsureds, will be covered by the tax that I am forced to pay? The IRS will collect from us, but we will not be covered for our own care? Obama’s fairness is not for Americans! Why does Obama get to determine what is fair? He is not God, is he?
For those who choose socialism-move to Europe. Most Americans choose freedom! Those who still choose freedom are not subjected to death panels yet, and we choose liberty! Justice Roberts! Shame on you!
I hope that diatribe was not intended for me. I am all about Liberty, too. I think the tone of my posting reveals that to those who actually read it.
If Obama does indeed lose the november election, there will still be an enormous amount of work to be done, and the success of the effort is still very much in doubt.
First of all: you can bet your last dollar that Obama will use his remaining time in office to do all the further damage he can. His ideology will drive him, as will political calculation to make as many problems for the new incoming administration and congress as he can, both for the sake of his ‘legacy’ and the future prospects of his party in the following election cycle.
Second: all last week we heard various republicans decrying Obamacare while at the same time pulling their own imitation of Janus and stating that it would be difficult to repeal the law in its entirety, and perhaps not desirable. In other words: Republicans will keep the parts of the law that they believe will help them buy the support of their constituencies – including both voters and, more importantly, special interest contributors.
America will never return to a healthy state until BOTH parties are utterly annihilated.
Stallion: A big AMEN to your last sentence!
I guess the question would then be, what do you want to replace the two party system with? Just throw them all out without creating a better system? How would that work? What has ever worked better than the two party system? I think that if you can somehow reform one party to perform better, the other party will have to perform better to compete, I say. Of course, I still believe that the citizens can control the government, which has admittedly left me on the losing side of elections much too often.
JB,
I think it would be a very healthy thing for the nation if the current two parties ceased to exist and elected officials were from new parties or – even better – won their offices as independents.
In fact, I’d really like to force the issue. I think it would be a wise and prudent thing if every single voting citizen sent a message to their current congressman, senator, governor, mayor and state assemblyman that they will NOT be receiving their vote. Both major parties would have to scramble to find new candidates, and it would open the field to new political parties to put forward their own candidates. At this point, everyone should make their selections, but before voting for their choice, should approach or contact that person and tell them “I like what you’re saying, but the only way I’ll vote for you is if you resign your party membership.”
The idea of accepting the Washington procedure of placing party before oath of office has achieved widespread aquiesence in the voting population – we’ve been corrupted and don’t even realize it. Time to change that.
That all sounds nice, STALLION, but how are you going to make that happen. Most people in this country can’t even identify their Congressman, much less their local leaders. You assume that most people really give a damn about anything beyond what free stuff they can get from the government. I say reforming the behavior of the political party with the most to gain from reform is the only hope, although I think it is a real stretch to think even that will happen. I am afraid that, with the election of a Communist, I have lost what remained of my faith in the ability of Americans to govern themselves. ABO2012
A small step forward would be to go back to having state legislatures choose the Senators to send to Washington. This is the way it used to be done. It might lessen the influence that large urban centers within a state have.
Never happen. Why not? Simple.. in order to return to the system in which the Senators were selected by the states, a Constitutional amendment would be needed. Two thirds of the Senate would have to agree to end their gravy train. We’ll have a permanent colony on the Sun before those clowns vote to do that.
“America will never return to a healthy state until BOTH parties are utterly annihilated.”
If you look at the history of either party, you will see that both have changed greatly during their existence even though their names and basic structures have endured.
A political party can be completely transformed – I believe that’s what tea party activists are attempting to do with the Republican Party, but it can’t happen overnight or even in one or two election cycles.
It can, however, be accomplished by persistently voting out incumbents who don’t follow constituencies’ wishes. Entrenched incumbents are harder to get rid of, but it can be done – if voters don’t let themselves be bought off with pork barrel programs and soothed by empty words.
If the new people voted into office don’t measure up, vote them out in the very next cycle. Eventually, the message gets through.
If a political party persistently refuses to respond to the electorate then, yes, the party will die – and be replaced.
One question to all the comment. WHY is this man Obama, with his corrupt Attorney General and his Tsars still in office?
Tuning out is inadequate to the assaults they have perpetrated on the nation “unto the fourth generation”. TURNING OUT is the approprate action. BEFORE the November election. Otherwise he exits laughing with all the perks, pension, security for him and his entire family for their lifetimes. As a “thank you for your service to the nation” from the citizens of that nation of which he “was ashamed” and set out — remember change, transform the country — to ruin. Successsfully achieving much of that goal within his so far short tenure.
Okay he’s not the only one but merely instrument of the socalled Democratic Party and minions in the civic institutions of the country for at least the past half century. Once they got that wizard’s wand TV into their hands via their minions in control of the transmission modelled on the effectivensss of radio.
But as he’s the one, with his cohorts in Congress and Court, who put the finishing touches, the “polish” on the plans he’s the one to carry the can. Ah, but this being a despised by him and his cohorts “Christian” nation are we to forgive despite the damage and destruction wrought on the lives of countless millions in the USA, and by extension others in the world. And what about those damaged who believe in the “holy remedy” of an eye for an eye? Don’t they count?
As we have evidence of the “justice” in the behaviours of our best and brightest, the courts and the intelligentsia in the “bringing to justice” all those others who so honoured human rights they murdered the humans in countless millins, ALL the instrumentatlists of the killing machines of the Nazis, the Bolsheviks, the Maoists, Pol Pots, etc etc. We can, we must? look forward to the same sort of “justice” for all those whose lives are irreparably damaged by this vandal Obama and his hordes.
Oh well politics in the twentieth century in the land of the free, the last best hope for mankind. The monument to carry the inscription: The United States of America 1776 – 2008. Deceased by the hands of its own. Requiescat in pace
They are still in office because, simply, it takes a 2/3 majority in the Senate to throw them out, and an impartial “referee” presiding over the trial. No matter how egregious the offense nor compelling the evidence, no more than 47 would vote to convict, and as for the referee, if the person on trial were Holder, what are the chances that Bite-Me, as President of the Senate, would be impartial, and given recent events, if the defendant were Obama, could we trust Roberts, whose court has outright refused to hear the eligibility suits that have gone to them, to do anything that might impair The One’s chances of skating?
A matter I suppose of picking one’s battles, and waiting for another day. If Obama and the Dems in the Senate are ousted in November, this is all moot, unless he does a lame-duck scorched earth. If he is re-elected, and the Senate flips, I suspect we will then see serious moves to bring charges. Until then, we have to pray for minimal damage. But it sux.

Have Teleprompter Will Travel reads the card of the man.
A cipher without a thought of his own in what he’s turning into a bankrupt land.
His ah, oh, umm, loose mouth heeds the calling of a Alinsky wind.
A man without a clue of his own is the cipher called Obamadin.
Obamadin, Obamadin, where do you roam?
Obamadin, Obamadin, just be sure to never leave your teleprompter at home.
He travels on to campaign whenever he feels he must
His yearning for power is his guiding lust
These are legends that themselves do spin
Of the Ventriloquist Alinsky’s dummy
Of the cipher called Obamadin
Obamadin, Obamadin, where do you roam?
Obamadin, Obamadin, just be sure to never leave your teleprompter at home.
For those of you who are not from the 1950s or don’t know classic TV westerns, this is a parody of the theme song from Paladin staring Richard Boone.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgvxu8QY01s
Here’s the sad thing, however:
If some nefarious nymph got a-hold of his teleprompter and changed the words to be gibberish, or something over-the-top (say, he bluntly admitted to being a Marxist who hated America), or even if he was caused to have a “Liar, Liar” moment, where the truth came out… the lemmings would still vote for him en masse. We could only hope that he would lose enough of the independents to save the republic, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for that either. The capacity for the American electorate to be stupid can be clearly seen from the fact that the elected the man in the first place.
The media is his megaphone. He is nothing without it.
Fox, conservative bloggers and talk radio all do what they can. But it’s an uphill struggle and the big media is still in control either by slant or by omission.
If Romney wins and leads the fight to drill, lessen regulation and reverse Obamacare, he’ll probably be portrayed as wrecking the environment, wanting corporations to do nefarious things and of course, wanting to see babies die in the street. That’s how the leftist media works. I’m not exaggerating.
But there is hope. My brother-in-law, retired union employee and dyed in the wool Democrat all his life now listens to Conservative talk radio. The other day he said, “Why are the mainstream media covering for Obama?”
If the quiet conversion has happened to him then there are zillions more like him.
I tuned out Bush early on when he confirmed my suspicions that “Compassionate Conservative” = “Big Spender”.
I tuned out Obama before the last election when I realized that his words were nothing except empty wind.
With respect to Bush, the last straw for me was when he characterized Islam as “a religion of peace,” after 9/11. Thus proving conclusively that:
1. He had absolutely no understanding of the history of Islam.
2. Alternatively, that he didhave that knowledge and lacked the courage and integrity to to call things by their proper names – and act accordingly.
I’d go for number one.
When Bush went to that very high profile mosque on Massachusetts Avenue in the District to make that awful statement at that awful time, he handed our Muslim/Islamic enemy what was to become the epitome of Political Correctness.
That one gesture, albeit well meant from that very decent man at that time, was a very public propaganda coup for our Muslim/Islamist enemy.
It’s a safe bet that George Bush regrets that now in his well informed hindsight, but he can’t say so publicly. More Political Correctness.
Who cares?
The majority of Americans will have to tune out the MSM in order to get rid of Barry the Giant Jobs Killer.
It’s tough to argue with the facts: http://bureaucountydems.blogspot.com/2012/05/obama-job-recovery-graph-what-diffence.html
PJ Media – my favorite place to experience the bubble.
Put your poster from Whitehousegov doesn’t say how many private jobs were lost. In fact, they quote the Dept. of Labor, but have no source how they came up with that their number.
Here is an actual link to the US Department of Labor with a treasure trove of info.

Have fun.
Interesting poll from The Hill for all the nay-sayers:
http://thehill.com/polls/236627-hill-poll-majority-feel-obama-has-changed-country-for-worse
For more than two years I have been posting my thoughts on Obama…he is a Neo-Marxist, muslim loving–Jew hating, metrosexual, anti American who seeks to make “bond slaves” of us all while he “gets even with Whitey” every which way he can!
I have been kicked off some sites for such postings.
Last week Rep. Allen West talked about the “new slaves” Obama seeks to create and liberal racism. We now hear about “dictator” “imperial” Obama more often than one ever thought possible.
Foresight can be good…
However, there are places in America where generations ago, Indians ran the buffaloes over cliffs to their deaths. Wonder what those “alpha males” of the herd did when chased?
Obama is an alpha male for many in America.
Right now he has his “lawyers” gearing up for an “election fight” of epic proportions, way beyond the “hanging chad” days of Al Gore.
This presidential fight requires a “knock out” of Obama for victory. If Romney can’t deliver such a blow, he won’t win on the “scorecards” where Obama’s people intend to play to the death.
“Hold your fire till you see the white of their eyes!” may be one of Romney’s tactical game plan…but I am shaking in my boots not wanting to go over this cliff I see right in front of my family.
Malignant narcissists have been running our country…we elected them, my generation of “do your own thing” etc.
You reap what you sow!
Good words. Americans have pooped on their plates.
Like Cubans before them, they now have to eat it.
Go Galt.
As a Californian, I am no longer surprised that the big lie sells. I am sad to see this affliction take over the national stage. I no longer believe that the majority is seeking the best for their nation or for their children. It’s all short term, what’s in it for me thinking at this stage. The MTV generation became the IPOD generation. Who knows what they are watching and listening to?
Let’s look at the numbers according to Rasmussen. A solid 42% of Americans are firmly opposed to the president. It’s been that way since the Tea Party erupted in 2009. They’ve tuned-out largely because their decision has already been made. Expect them to turn out en masse in November.
There’s another block of 25% who strongly support Obama. This is the crowd for whom gay rights and green energy are important issues. They are leftist ideologues and their support will not waiver.
Then there’s the 33% who aren’t paying attention. And they won’t until about September. Romney needs about a third of these voters to win unless the electoral college skews the results. According to Michael Barone this morning at NRO, Obama’s numbers in Ohio and western Pennsylvania are well down from their 2008 margins of victory. These are working people for whom gay issues are unimportant and green energy policy is a nuisance.
Carter was ahead of Reagan by a wide margin at this point in 1980, and the economic numbers were similarly horrid albeit for different reasons. To say the current White House is “concerned” about the numbers is an understatement. It’s reason enough for an all out panic. The economy is likely to remain in a malaise through election day. The only thing Obama can do at this point is go negative. If people vote with their pocketbooks, he’s probably done anyway.
Carter was NOT far ahead of Reagan in July 1980.
This urban myth just keeps circulating and circulating–but it’s false.
In July 1980, Gallup had Reagan ahead of Carter by 3 points.
http://www.uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=115543.0
Carter pulled ahead of Reagan in early October, as Carter started hinting that the Iran hostages would be coming home soon (which didn’t happen).
Thank you, I stand corrected, but the charts you offer only confirm my overall point. Look at the elections since 1956 where an incumbant is running. In all cases where the incumbant is not significantly ahead by August, he loses. Or put another way, a challenger who is still close by August always wins.
If I may correct your last sentence to “has won” instead of “always”. We’re in a phase of “po’ boy” politics. How do you think so many dolts have been empowered to Congress at this point?
Many will feel guilt pangs and say “Maybe; Just one more chance”.
You are semantically correct. But what this means is that Obama must overcome an historical trend of some sixty years to get re-elected. How will he do this now that the novelty of his persona has worn off (or proven a fraud to those paying attention)?
~Paules;
But; Don’t you know Obama is a “Trayvon Martin”?
Like Rush is saying at this very moment; The political landscape has changed.
The quote below, from USA Today, demonstrates why over-confidence is our worst enemy in the fight to defeat 0bama. Many “swing voters”, like Ms. Bruning, are too ready to be bought off by the short-term appeal of a shiny object:
[BEGIN QUOTE] I don’t get a chance to see the news a lot,” Bruning, who was called in the USA TODAY Poll, said in a follow-up phone interview. “I have two kids and go to school and work. Seeing the ads every day helps me catch up. I see what they are going to do.”
What has she learned? That Obama has been pushing to keep student loan rates low — she’s attending community college to be certified as a welder, so that’s an important issue for her — and that Romney “wants to cut taxes for the rich people and raise them for the poor.”
“I don’t think that’s cool,” she says. She plans to vote for Obama. [END QUOTE]
I won’t go in to all the things that are wrong with Ms. Bruning’s thinking now. There will be plenty of time for critiquing the vaunted swing voter in the months ahead.
To sum up my qualms about this piece by VDH, it is not that many Americans have tuned out 0bama–it is that they have not yet started paying attention.
This election can still be lost, and I want to pull my hair out every time I read an article whose logical implication is that Romney need only “run the clock out” and let 0bama beat himself.
“This election can still be lost, and I want to pull my hair out every time I read an article whose logical implication is that Romney need only “run the clock out” and let 0bama beat himself.”
You got that exactly right and I fear it will be lost because I don’t think Romney has what it takes to go head to head with Obama. Too much Mister Nice Guy.
The bigger fear, for me at least, is that the debates will be few and crushed together, just as they were in 2008. The debates have become less and less important in recent elections. This needs to change. There should be more debates which begin immediately after the convention.
…truth about it, or contradicts what he earlier had asserted — or we are left with some contorted postmodern narrative…the model for all of Obama’s explanations: a current narrative becomes “true” if it is in service to a progressive cause…Either things have gotten worse or what Obama says is either untrue or not consistent with what he earlier had asserted.
Given all that, and more, I am stunned that the charlatan-in-chief is as high in the polls as he is.
A re-selection of this guy will be the final turning point in America’s decline.
The result is that when he starts one of those long teleprompted orations, with the dropped g’s and the faux-African-American preaching patois, we still are impressed how the cadences can package the rather empty content and serial half-truths.
Impressed ? Disgusted, offended. The pandering “g” dropping and the up-swept cadences were amusing at first and are now just lousy grade B acting.
When Obama’s mug appears, the tee vee quickly mutes itself. It (at least) is well trained.
“Were they then, now, or always just simpletons, naïfs, hypocrites, or abject careerists?”
IMHO not only all of the above, but heavily influenced by the proven failures (by history) of Marxism/socialism, coupled with a heavy dose of Chicago gangsterism.
Of course Obama is lying. There are two elements of this cocktail that ensure the lie will be told and enure that it will continue to be told.
1)He is not accountable for anything he says, does, or transpires under his watch.
2)His intent is to deceive. He is a Fabian Socialist (small c communist) and he has no intention of letting the low information (or diseased information stream recipient) ever get a glimpse behind the curtain.
Yes, there are additional factors that play a role. The Republican Party is absolutely abysmal at messaging, they have the truth on their side and still can’t win the day with it. They are constantly outmaneuvered, stumble over their own words, tremble at the thought of being labeled “racist” or “greedy” or “homophobic” or “stupid”…which they are already, and permanently affixed to their reputation the moment they run as Republicans.
It is a stain that cannot be washed away, no matter how much they surrender, capitulate, scrape, bow and shuffle further and further into the den of small c communist lies and distortion. They are beaten dogs who offer meek, timid and frail defenses against the leftist distortions, propaganda and lies.
Their strategists quake at the notion that Obama “shouldn’t be taken on personally, because he is so popular”, in a circular reasoning so brittle, it crumbles at the first hurled insult by such luminaries as Bill Maher and Roseanne Barr.
A mass media so corrupt and conspiratorial it now openly shills for small c communism and the overthrow, a Fabian gradualism that no longer creeps under our hospital gowns, gropes us at airports and confiscates our property…but insults us as we bear their indignities. And a Republican Party that lacks heart, brains and spine as our first line of defense.
In the eye of the overthrow today, we live in a cesspool of lies. Intentional and necessary for the completion of that overthrow on one side…and incapable of being thwarted by the weaklings on the other side.
Traitorism and treason abound. With nearly half our countrymen too wretched to resist, too corrupt to convict, too stupid to care. We need a hero. The Republican Party is wont to provide one. We’re on our own, it appears.
And, if we are to survive and if this nation is to resist the overthrow…we need to be made of much sterner stuff than we are exhibiting at the moment. We are losing. And we are losing this land of ours to the small c communists and their corrupt gradualism….with nary a peep of outrage.
We have truth on our side and we are squandering away the greatest nation in the history of mankind, because we lack the will to resist. Pity us. We, the meek, shall not inherit the earth…but shall abandon it.
If we do lose the country to the small c’s, it’s because we are not of the stuff & substance that deserved it in the first place.
It has been my understanding that the meek shall inherit the Earth, but not the mineral rights.
Outstanding, CFB! Perfectly stated.
Long Gone Galt.
But what about the bishops? We can win this in the churches.
America is about freedom! Socialists are not welcome here! Move to Europe, where you will be right at home. True Americans are freedom loving, hard-working, tax paying patriots!
There are a huge number of citizens-Americans- who still have freedom in our blood! Two hundred thirty six years later, it is all about freedom!
We will not be enslaved!
Imagine if Barack Obama said the following: “I promise by the end of my second term that I will close Guantanamo Bay, end renditions and preventative detentions, cut the deficit in half, that my second stimulus program will put the unemployment rate below 6% within three years, that I will create 5 million new green jobs, that my health care plan will lower premiums, that I will ostracize lobbyists, end the revolving door, and earmarks, that I will participate in public financing of the 2012 campaign, and that I won’t raise any tax whatsoever on those earning less than $250,000.”
No comment, other than this paragraph bears repeating.
Apparently, regretfully, the American electorate enjoys being fooled, lied to, conned, pockets picked, and disaster looming in the name of entertainment and popularity. Tuning out an arch-deciever only inspires him to jerk the audience with more brazen pronouncements. It sells press. It seems harmless as long as it is about the other guy.
Every time I read a VDH article, more so than any author going, I’m reminded why I believe America’s best days behind her, no matter the course.
Obama isn’t really the problem – he’s the end result.
The problem couldn’t be more clear: mass ignorance, amorality and dependency. Almost 70MM fools so myopic; no, not myopic – blind and ignorant – that couldn’t see this sham of a President for what he really was.
A superficial, self-absorbed blank sheet of no accomplishment with a sordid history and really bad cast of formative influence, American hating and corruption.
Gang, I still think Romney is going to win. But this might be the last hooray. And even if Romney should win, on November 7th, these millions of fools will still be with us, angrier than ever at their own personal failings and looking for somebody to blame, with no intent of changing problems of their making.
I suggest we start thinking about how we separate ourselves from these Obama lackeys, or we will go nowhere as a nation. Not even our great Republic can overcome millions of mindless lackeys.
I agree with your observations. It’s been a rear-guard withrdrawl in the institutions for some time now and the economic affluencey over the past few decades has given us a complacent, apathetic public that is quickly becoming dependent on govt. assitance. This isn’t going to end well.
“I suggest we start thinking about how we separate ourselves from these Obama lackeys, or we will go nowhere as a nation.”
Parasites need a host. Go Galt.
“I suggest we start thinking about how we separate ourselves from these Obama lackeys, or we will go nowhere as a nation. Not even our great Republic can overcome millions of mindless lackeys.”
Just what do you have in mind? The big problem with what you are saying is pretty obvious: those who like Obama and statism/progressivism/leftism or whatever you choose to call it are intermingled with those of us who loathe Obama and everything his ideology proposes to do. While some states are “blue” and some are “red”, having them secede as entire states ignores the huge issue of all those people who aren’t enthusiastic about the dominant views of their state.
In other words, even if Texas is solid red, there are some very liberal people in Texas. Do you think Texas is going to be comfortable with lots of liberals in the state forming a nucleus of resistance to the conservative political program? And to reverse the analogy, even if California is deep blue, there are some very conservative people in California. Do you think California is going to be comfortable with lots of conservatives in their state?
If you can’t see whole states seceding from America, then how what do you propose to do about the minorities? Forced resettlements to send them to a state that more closely matches their views? Will they be compensated for property that they can’t take with them, like houses and land?
This, of course, is just the tip of a very ugly iceberg. But if you can’t answer these questions in some kind of plausible way, then you should probably take any talk of secession off the table.
Legitimate questions, Sparky. I understand your concern of my tacit suggestion which read a little more into it than what was intended. But I could ask the same of you.
Since you broached the subject…
How do you propose to hold your head above water and keep this country solvent when its imminent demise is certain with the system at hand? I doubt you’re so naive that you think radical change is going to take place if Romney elected with 52% of the vote. You going to hang around and go down with the sinking ship, or are you going to start looking for something that floats? File bankruptcy and pick up the pieces?
You got 50,000,000 (at a minimum) dependents being bought for a vote that have no qualms about not only bending the Constitution, but have no idea there is a Constitution, with a demographic now working against you.
The way I look at, I have made a suggestion that for whatever pain it may cause, and there would be plenty no doubt, it at least makes the attempt to right the wrong and be realistic where we stand. What you imply IMO is nothing but more of the same with a different flavor. A Republican Congress can’t correct an amoral, shameless mass.
I say we separate regionally. Pretty easy to split this country right now. Those “purple” states can go with the blue and feel happy about it. Don’t need them either. Some state like Florida is going to have to make a hard choice.
We can try and make it amicable as possible. I doubt those benefactors from the blue states are going to go amicably, though. So I suggest we gird our loins.
Now obviously, I’m minimizing the complexity. But if my suggestion sounds hollow and naive or too radical, perhaps you’ll explain to me how you bucking the trend with more of the same with the same demographic, no matter the President will lead to success. Again, in my opinion, we are way past coming to a compromised solution that gets us out of the mess. Compromise is failure in this regard.
We don’t have 40 years to fix the problem. I figure you’ve got maybe 36 months.
I don’t think this election is about truth or lies.
Most of us on this blog know very well that Obama is a pathological liar, that he has no rational connection to reality, that his rhetoric has only one agenda, to maintain his power over others. We know this.
This election isn’t about choosing whether our leaders lie to us or tell us the truth.
This election is similar to the Declaration of Independence, which also wasn’t about truth or lies. Instead, it was about the choice of our political, legal and economic infrastructure. It was a choice of ‘how we shall live’. We chose, in 1773-1776, to live as free self-governing rational individuals, with a government that we chose to work for us, for the common interests that we – not the government – chose to carry out.
This election is exactly identical. Do we choose to live as dependents of the state, taxed by that state of our work, which is then given by the state (not by our own charity) to those with less wealth? Do we choose to live within a governance that makes its own decisions, that does not listen to or give credence to, our wishes? That ignores Congress, that sets up its own czars and rules…
Or do we choose to live within the results of our own work rather than the work of others? Do we choose to allow individuals the freedom to work and gain wealth? Do we support the basis for this freedom, the middle class of small businesses, or do we instead install stifling regulations that destroy the middle class businesses?
So, this election has nothing to do with Obama’s pathological manipulation and lies. It is instead a choice that has been creeping up on us over the past decades. Do we choose to live, as in the era of George III, as dependents of an alienated governance, or do we choose to live as independent free workers, with a governance in our control rather than we in its control.
Nothing of the sort. Those who would be free will be, elections or not.
Until the government comes knocking on your door, hoosiertoo.
Who would be free, will be. Live free or die.
Nobody said it was easy.
Dream on.
Dream on? So you live in fear of a government that can only kill the body. That’s just sad. I say screw ‘em.
Your damned right I fear a government that can only kill my body. To my way of thinking, that would pretty much be the end of me. But my way of thinking would be my business and not any of yours. Sheesh.
Given the millions of American voters in ’08 who were taken in by the deceiver in chief, I don’t know that there are enough people left around who have even a passing acquaintance with ideals of individual liberty and personal responsibility.
Morgan Freeman pointed out last week that Obama isn’t our first African American president but our first president of mixed race.
I appreciated that (obvious) observation in the interests of honesty and all the knee jerk charges of racism the Left likes to hurl.
“When all government, in little as in great things, shall be drawn to Washington as the Center of all power, it will render powerless the checks provided of one government on another and will become as venal and oppressive as the government from which we separated.”
~Thomas Jefferson
I thought that Morgan Freeman’s comment was quite interesting. He’s in essence offering black Americans a reason to not vote for Barack Obama. He’s not really black.
Agreed; but here’s the scary part of Mr Hanson’s essay:
“None of the above means that Barack Obama is necessarily going to lose the election, and here is why, given the following paradoxes. There are roughly now two groups of tune-outs: the first are the 50% who are either partisan opponents or who have had it with a president who does not speak the truth and blames his own failures on others. The second are the 50% who likewise don’t pay much attention to Obama’s rhetoric anymore, but they assume that mortgage bailouts; loan forgiveness; massive public hiring; more food stamps, unemployment insurance, and disability payments; freedom from income tax; racial and class resentments; and more still all offer, for the poorer, welcome material, and, for the richer, psychic and philosophical, recompense.”
I think that is correct – about half of America wants more of what Obama represents – big government running their lives.
If Romney believes in limited government, he’d better start coming up with a convincing argument showing why limited government, personal freedom, wealth creation, Rule of Law, etc are necessary to the future well being of all americans.
ETAB, my great and good cyberfriend, I agree with your major premise and partially disagree with your minor premise.
The seminal issue and your comparison to the Declaration of Independence from King George is spot on.
In fact, if one was to take the wording of the grievances…word for word…and place them in today’s context (I have done this) changing barely a few words and making a few modern adjustments for today’s topics…it would be nearly an overlay of virtually identical abuses of power that sparked the protest and divorce.
On that point of yours, we are in complete agreement.
On your point that the lies don’t matter, ETAB, in a rare moment of disagreement between your thought process and mine…I must humbly, but fervently disagree.
The lies matter. The distortion matters. The Propaganda and Lies Ministry’s conspiratorial behavior, distortion, coverup, disinformation campaigns…matter.
The failure to hold Obama, Holder, Soros, to account matters.
The allowance of wholesale traitorism and abject treason matters.
The exposure of the overthrow matters. The history of the Midwest Academy and the New Party and all the small c communist front groups matters.
Because the truth matters.
That is, if we give a Tinker’s Dam about saving this land of ours. If not, then …all the propaganda and lies don’t matter one whit. We can simply surrender and pretend to believe them instead.
truth matters
yes it does
since truth
is what one
wants to believe
and also
let’s remember
even the truth
can be run
as a hustle
I say
truth is true
and not subject to
anyone’s opinion about it
too
truth’s not
up for grabs
either
but it also
gets lost
lost in the shuffle
The truth
exists
no matter what we wish
to believe
The truth is a rock
and just sits there
waiting to be discovered
It can’t be “hustled”
but the vermin hiding beneath
that rock
can ooze slime
and try to convince
the ignorant
that the truth is a lie
and a lie is the truth.
I guess that slime now
has a name
Leftist.
that can
be named
is not
the eternal
name
or might we rather say
the name
that can
be named
is not
an eternal name
or might we rather say
both are
true
at the same
time
[as for
vermin
and slime
however
there is
no argument]
“since truth
is what one
wants to believe”
N N OOOO !! !!
NN N O O !! !!
N N N O O !! !!
N N N O O !! !!
N N N O O !! !!
N NN O O
N N OOOO !! !!
(That’s a big fat NO!! if you’re having trouble with my ASCII Art.)
Truth is what is verifiably in accordance with reality. The idea that truth is what you WANT to believe is the exact OPPOSITE of truth. To say that truth is what you want to believe is to adopt the same mindset as the Marxists who insist that Marxism will lead to Utopia even though it has never ever done so in all the times it has been attempted.
most people believe what they want to believe
and there’s not that much one can do about it
CFB. Does the truth matter as much as the upholding of the principles of affirmative action? If our ancestors were not slaveowners, would we even be having this conversation?
My ancestors barely owned a car, a house, furniture.
To equate Western European heritage with slavery is a sleight of hand trick to make ALL “whites” guilty of “original sin”.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
In sheer numbers there were more white abolitionists and warriors against slavery, than slave owners.
More importantly, LEGAL immigrants who came through Ellis Island, instead of through Fantasy Island of leftist border crashing coyote trails, barely had enough to put bread on their own tables. They were poor, looking for a better way of life…but they didn’t cheat their way in, they waited in long lines and took manual labor jobs.
There was no “affirmative stacked deck” FOR them…quite the opposite.
To believe the Howard Zinn history of “white privilege” you would have to erase nearly the whole of Ellis Island and blow out of proportion the “advantages” of being Western European “white” beyond the gritty reality of life for ancestors of virtually everyone who came through the channels.
The only “advantage” most of those folks had, is they came from a culture of people who valued hard work, didn’t like to take handouts, were determined to leave a better chance for their children and weren’t self-absorbed and they valued education and building a better life. Seems that Asians who come here, those from India/Philippines etc., have many of the same successes for many of the same reasons.
Consistent failures…don’t seem to follow this model. And, they look for fake and phony reasons to blame “advantages”. If hard work and diligent study are “advantages”, then maybe the problem lies in remaining in cultures that resist them.
Since less than half of us can even trace ancestry to the United States in 1863, and since less than 8% of even those people ever owned slaves, I think your blanket statement about our ancestors is pretty close to preposterous. Next subject please.
Your point would be correct if the case made by the believers in the founding principles was given equal weight to the case made by the con artists of the left.
But since the voice of the con men is amplified a hundred-fold and the voice of the admirers of the founders has a million agents undermining it every minute of every day, with the support of King George’s government itself, your point is correct only in a theoretical world that does not exist and is on the verge of never existing.
The lies matter.
If Romney doesn’t counter every lie, he doesn’t deserve to win, and the idiots who allowed themselves to be cowed into supporting him by the propaganda of the entrenched republican grandees deserve what they will get.
Would he be less deserving of the Presidency than, say, the person who tells all of those lies? Failing to call a liar a liar when he deserves to be called a liar, doesn’t make you the moral equivalent of the liar, I say. That said, let me say that I really hope Romney will call the Communist liar out on as many lies as he can, and still win the election. ABO2012
The first paragraph reminds me how “in touch” Obama is with America.
How long was it before he flew over the Colorado fires? How long was it before he visited the flooded areas of Tennessee, and New Jersey?
How about the Gulf oil spill;? The Oklahoma tornado devastation?
He keeps his finger on the pulse of his media stooges, and waits to see if it’s news worthy enough before venturing out into a dangerous area.
If Obama had been in office when 9-11 took place, he’d still be hunkered down in Guam with the entire U.S. Navy and Air Force guarding the island to this very day.
THE ONLY Way Obama is going to any place is if the Golf course is OPEN- he is THE AMATURE as described by B Clinton
Joe Wilson was right. Victor David Hanson makes the case. Obama lies, America dies. Let this November election be the Founding Fathers resurrection.
This fact of more people going on disability than getting jobs should be the centerpiece of Romney’s campaign.
I hope Mr. Hanson is right about people tuning obama out, but I doubt it. Not with the media fellating him 24×7. The Bush’s had a media that devoted every waking moment to destroying their credibility. That’s what destroyed them, not their policies. Of course, Bush Jr was an idiot for not defending his record. You can make a case that he is responsible for the marxist takeover for just that reason. Then idiot McLame piled on the stupid bonfire by refusing to point out that the god man was in fact an American, Israel, western-civilization, white-people hating radical marxist whose goal is to destroy capitalism and freedom and build the socialist paradise that is always just around the corner.
Are Obama’s approval numbers are high because people will be called if they disapprove of him to the pollsters?? Then the polls really do not reflect the truth behind these polls and in that case the election will have a surprise ending with people throwing him out!!
A representative sampling of Obama voters
If Obama had a son…….
No, not even close to representative. I don’t blame blacks for voting enthusiastically for the first black Presidential nominee of a major party.
There are simply not enough blacks to give him the victory, even if 100% of them had voted for him. He won because of all the gutless, groveling, ignorant, guilt-ridden leftist whites who voted for him, including a number of my former friends.
Ah, come on, Vic.
Give Barack a break—he deserves it, such a cool cat!
You sound like an old fogey, so stuck in your transcendental realizations about our “post modern” world, and those who lead it—e.g. BHO—that you fail to see how obsolete and repetitive your rantings have become. Obama is cutting edge, in that he is post post-modern.
He IS God—incarnate, don’t you see? Not only is he a legend in his own mind, but the entire world is his, for the molding, and he has NO LIMITS placed on him by such a boring need as to be consistent or to tell the truth.
What a Wonder!
We should appreciate Him, while we can. Maybe, He won’t be able to continue to mesmerize enough voters (and dead people who vote) to stay in office for 4 more years.
Oh, but if He can—yes, He can!
That would be Heaven on earth. We’d get four more years for our Savior to really work his black magic on us, and hopefully, find a way to become president for life.
Look, the USA is ALREADY a banana “republic”, so it’s about time she started going full gang busters as one.
All the forces, all the stars, and all the lemmings are ready, and set, to go for it.
Let’s have some anarchistic fun!
Let’s face the America-2012 truth—Fat, in and as body, and mind, must act according to form. Therefore, Obama is the perfect subhuman to lead this play..
Not only does majority rule, in that, putatively, each vote counts, so that my liberal sister’s vote cancels my conservative vote, but, overeating people have found a way to make THEIR vote OUTWEIGH other votes. That is—
I’m reminded of an incident I witnessed—in a high school class I was teaching, this very large black girl, who had a loud and powerful voice, proclaimed that SHE should be listened to—and obeyed?—because she could talk louder than other people!
That’s our America-2012.
And, George Washington had a wimpy voice, they say.
So, come on, people, let the fat party not only continue, by reelecting Obama, but let’s go for more, more, more of it!
Why not 95% fat or obese people?
I can’t wait for a boxing match between 400-pound dames!
Look, the USA is ALREADY a banana “republic”…
A broccoli republic, thanks to John Roberts.
But, I love broccli.
Wow! Who knew?
I like broccoli and bananas are too radioactive for my taste.
Correct as usual Dr VDH. If as you suggest Bo is a liar, phony, corrupting, and incompetent from the begining then what must that say about the American electorate ? Not a shiney image. Sorry to say the citizens who fell for the BS havent changed one iota and will be back at the ballot box to get more free stuff from the productive class. The only shovel-ready reality is the BS of hope and change. Please Dr VDH favor us with your unvarnished opinion of the American voters and non voters. Waiting.
“The new federal takeover of health care requires a mandate, a tax, or a penalty, but the architects of the plan cannot agree on which….”
Some federal takeover, based on private insurance companies! And when you refer to the plan architects, I assume you mean Romney et al. His “It’s not a tax / It is a tax” tap dance has been quite entertaining.
PS – Your comments on the ’08 implosion don’t seem to implicate the banks or Wall Street. In other words, they’re full of crap.
And which comic strip are you collecting unemployment from?
Nailed it.
“The second are the 50% who likewise don’t pay much attention to Obama’s rhetoric anymore, but they assume that mortgage bailouts; loan forgiveness; massive public hiring; more food stamps, unemployment insurance, and disability payments; freedom from income tax; racial and class resentments; and more still all offer, for the poorer, welcome material, and, for the richer, psychic and philosophical, recompense.”
And this is probably the most hateful legacy of the Obama administration. He has exploded the number of people who feel helpless and are now dependent on all major entitlements in this country. The last nail in the coffin will be Obamacare. Once that is up and running, then it’s only a short jump to free college education for all and free housing for all. Last month, more people went on disability than got jobs. Meanwhile, the number of people working for the government and getting food stamps from the government is skyrocketing. In short, Obama has singlehandedly recreated and dramatically expanded the dependent welfare state that even Bill Clinton tried so hard to end. Now it’s back with a vengeance and these people are not about to give up their meal ticket anytime soon. In short, Obama is killing the American spirit of achievment, independence, and personal responsibility and he should be hated for that. It’s not the country I want to live in and that’s why I’m doing everything in my power to make sure that this guy doesn’t get another four years in office. If I have to make phone calls, knock on doors, attend meetings, anything to convince people that another four years of Obama will literally spell the end of this once fine nation. There are a lot of people out there like me and we will not quit until election night. We are in this to win it, no matter how hard we have to work for it. Because our future should be better than the rank mediocrity you find in all European social-welfare states.
People are a little spooked right now that this monstrous misfire of a president is holding his own with Romney—or Romney is holding his own with O, as the dems probably see it. After all the evidence of incompetence or deliberate malfeasance against this nation Obama still has a chance. Despite all the bad news on the economy he is staying in there. But look at how O and his minions are pulling this off—at least so far. He doesn’t acknowledge failure—oh, people say, it’s his narcissism. More likely he’s being coached that he should accept no blame at all for his failures or this trickle could soon turn into a gusher of critical thinking among the electorate. A sign that he is aware of this is the way he carries himself in public. He may be a narcissist, but he is not going around in public right now with his nose stuck permanently skyward because he is. It is all part of the re-imaging of O that is probably the work of psychologists. Because people are by now exhausted by O’s utter inability to do anything other than be Obama psychologists have advised him, perhaps directly, to keep up the good work. They tell him to stonewall on everything, obfuscate wherever and whenever possible because this confuses some people. In the meantime the poodle press will ankle bite Romney and to the confused O will look almost presidential. It could work. It shouldn’t. Romney needs to shatter the glass house that O lives in and make him walk barefoot on the shards for all the damage he has done to this country.
You are so right. He takes absolutely NO responsibility or blame for anything. It’s never him. People can’t understand how he can be so arrogant, so utterly incapable of admitting failure. It’s infuriating and frustrating. It scares the ba-jee-zus out of me knowing that so many people aren’t paying attention to what Obama is doing to America – and, that others don’t care. You are also right about Obama’s handlers (psychologically speaking) telling him to avoid blame and lie and obfuscate and not walk around with his nose in the air (it turns people off). Obama is trying to get the absolute most mileage out of the people who think he’s a nice guy. He IS NOT a nice guy. To me, he is a monster.
Where is that bastard David Gregory when you need him? Remember when that whore masquerading as a journalist asked George W. Bush what he felt he had failed at? Bastard must have had an orgasm when he got home for ‘speaking truth to power’. Where the hell are you now David? Where the hell are your fellow whores..I mean..journalists? Or do you only speak truth to power when you know, deep down, that the man you are ridiculing is too decent to have you quietly destroyed. Gutless cowards. Every one of them. When the reckoning comes, our journalist whores need to be the first to be dealt with.
When the reckoning comes, our journalist whores need to be the first to be dealt with.
Yes. I blame them more than anyone for Obama.
Romney looks like a guy who just realized he forgot his wife’s birthday, but is desperately being as nice as possible and thinking maybe he’ll take her away for the weekend. It’s that mild deer-in-the-headlights look that will sink him. Image is everything.
Sadly, you may be right. Image has always been powerful, but we have come to the point where image is all.
I remember for an entire year George W. Bush did not defend himself when he should have. I don’t know if Rove was the handler or what but I have thought that ALL of these expensive minds and handlers should be dumped and the candidates should speak for themselves and let the chips fall. So what if some small group is offended. Survival of the fittest should be the slogan.
Exactly: for all their bragging, the handlers don’t actually know anything. All they know is how to lie to people.
As usual, Dr. Hanson makes some brilliant points. But, the numbers will tell.
For Obama to be even or slightly ahead in the polls, after the terrible 30-40 days he’s had is troubling. What if he has a good month? Where will he be then?
…and to just dismiss the polls due to bias, is not a good enough game plan.
Romney, if he has a spine, must start attacking NOW. No one can know for sure when political opinions become set in stone. He risks it all to wait, and figure his coming money advantage will seal the deal. Beating his primary opponents was child’s play compared to this…
If Romney doesn’t start pounding soon, it won’t matter how much he has to spend.
Correction. Romney may eventually catch up to Obama’s money. He is now paying that heavy price for having had to spent nearly 100 million to get the nomination, thanks to all of the Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Herman Cain, and Rick Perry supporters who pushed their guys to stay in the race long after it was clear that Romney would be the Republican in the race. If he doesn’t catch up with Obama’s spending very quickly, he will have an even higher hurdle to clear. Thanks for this situation to all of you real smart political thinkers out there. Now get out there and oppose Obama so we can have a non-Communist Presidency next year, and stop wringing your hands about Romney’s poor chances. ABO2012
“For Obama to be even or slightly ahead in the polls, after the terrible 30-40 days he’s had is troubling.”
Polls don’t matter, trend lines do. 4 months out, the actual numbers are unimportant, vaporish, cloudy nothings. It is the relative directions that count. The polls themselves are subject to various “in House” spinning.
http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/morning-jay-state-race-four-months-out_648277.html
Morning Jay does the best job of explaining the nuts and bolts.
What the polls tell me is that nobody has budged an inch the last 3 months. I would guess that is because voters are running hard just to keep even. Politics takes time. When all your time is spent putting food on the table, shoes on the kids and the wifey pacified, politics is a waste of time. That will change about the first of November. Then the polls will matter.
We political junkies need to hold on to the numbers. No POTUS has been re-elected with an approval rating as low as the Won’s. Nor with unemployment so high. Nor with the economy so low. I won’t vote for Mitt. I will vote for the ticket IF he gives me a conservative female as VP. He gives me another tired old RINO as VP and I’ll stay home, pop open a Shiner Bock and watch 0bama win.
Remember, we are in this mess because the RINO’s put us here. With Romney, the GOP is reaching out for Independents and dropping conservatives. If that is what they want, let them win without conservatives.
At least get out and vote in the down-ticket races, and vote third-party rather than staying home. Nobody notices voters who don’t show up; people notice voters who voted third-party.
Nah. I’m to old to vote against a politician. They are all the same. The (D), (R) thingie is just to fool the suckers. I’ll wait until the post election collapse then vote by .308
Sort of like a mail-in vote only more personal.
Naw, you aren’t yet old enough to know the differences between people with a (D) or an (R) behind their names. The difference is now like night and day and, if Obama gets re-elected, you will pay the same price as I will for your ignorance. I’m sure of that. Try to stop acting like a front runner who doesn’t yet think he knows who to vote for because he doesn’t yet think he knows who will win.
Then don’t vote “against” a politician – vote to help America. Get out and vote for the greater good of America. Being selfish and stubborn isn’t helping this country one bit. Get off your “old” duff and vote for Romney – are you capable of doing it for the rest of us? Or, are you just going to sit by and let America drown in communism? Think about it.
Luckily more and more people realize the empty shell of a president parading as a self-made oracle. Strange, that an entire electoral time passing before the truth emerge. “Change we can believe in” was this dangling youth credo. We can just reply: Obama, just keep the change. Then again we can believe in government.
While Rome burns; Romney is nowhere to be seen.
While the likes of loud mouth liars including Obama, Debbie Wasserman Shultz, the Left Wing Media, others, Romney is shown flying around on a jet ski-giving more canon fodder for the left.
If he does not roll up his sleves and start defending himself; projecting his plans and ideas in detail, and dive into the slime and throw it back in their faces everytime they blurt out a lie, he will perish!
For example, while the left rails about his wealth, he might retaliate with such inquiries like ‘who is Obama ; how did he pay for Harvard; where are his college records; how does he buy a million dollar plus home making 22k a year as a community advisor,etc.etc.!
Will the real Mitt Romney ‘please stand up’!!!!!!
Obama is still on TV. Oh my G-d, and all this time I thought I was watching reruns.
I’d rather listen to any of the following than the Liar in Chief :
Cats screw each other
Grass growing
Paint drying
Toilet valve gurgling
Tinnitus ringing
Drunks vomiting in the alley
Chalk on a blackboard
Elevated trains on a sharp curve
Electric motor with shot bearings
AD council ads for whooping cough
OSHA required backup ding ding ding bells (totally annoying but not as bad as Barry)
Where can I file an OSHA complaint against Kim Kardashian? Her butt needs backup ding ding bells.
If Romney would go after Obama with the same vigor he used going after Newt, Herman and Rick….he would be ahead by 20 points or more right NOW. Mitt is not playing to win, he’s playing not to lose…there’s a difference…timid….safe, and it will cost him the election if he does not grow a pair and go after this Kenyan Commie and show the whole world exactly what he is, and what the MSM hid from all of us in 2008. Obama will use his surrogates to destroy you politically, professionally and personally, Governor Romney. He will attack you, your wife, and your family if he needs to in order to advance his agenda; there is no depth of depravity Obama will not sink to.
Obama is going to dive head first into whatever filth and deceit he has to in order to defeat you Mr. Romney. In the immortal words of the legendary Sean Connery in the Chicago crime drama The Untouchables – “WHAT ARE YOU PREPARED TO DO?”
On a more serious note, your Doc-ness, (does he even look over the comments?) The exquisitely targeted violence of the modern day way of western war to my mind is inadequate when confronted with an opposition rooted in the middle ages and before. The Persians have been a thorn in the side of Western Civ since well before Thermopylae and the muslims have been bucking for co-PITA since the mid 600′s AD.
To steal and torture a metaphor from Mao, another statist mass murderer, the sea in which the fish swim must be made sick enough to expel the fish. Just killing the fish is not enough, there will always be more fish. Their surviving support system must be made to turn on them. Sherman knew this.
The Belmont Club’s Three Conjectures, to me, at this date, are a best case scenario.
I know that a lot of people here want Romney to hammer Obama, but you underestimate how nasty stuff can turn people off. Instead, just play a lot of those past statements from Obama; use his own words and enough people should get the point.
The over-the-top nastiness, such as we often hear here is a turn-off.
Dwight, how did the nice-guy approach by John McCain turn out for you ? Or perhaps that is exactly what you want. One can be aggressive and honest without being stupid. Mitt needs to step it up.
Try to think about the two different situations: McCain did not have the (now, oh so hollow) Obama quotes mentioned by VDH to draw upon and there was an economic collapse, about which he seemed clueless and which was being blamed on GWB.
It should be possible for Romney to make his case forcefully without being nasty. It’s called effective argumentation.
When one debater can stay calm while stating effective points, refusing to let the opponent get under his skin, it often brings out the nasty in his opponent – and that’s devastating. After that, only the opponent’s diehard supporters are still with him.
May I add that this “tuning out” process is amplified enormously by our American public’s generalized obsession with tuning just about everything out of their lives except the mundane trivia of day to day living.
Witness the incessant cellphone addiction of those folks talking to a neighbor face to face while holding that “cell” device closely to their ear in some other intense (or not) discussion of Lord only know what is that important at that particular moment.
The supermarket shopper holding that “cell” with such intense concentration while perhaps looking a package labels.
Unless you’re Henry Kissinger or Miss Hillary…..what on Earth is so important as to require talking on the “cell” while in a moving vehicle in traffic, or, of course….doing the literal driving driving.
Same with “texting”.
Now,let’s extend this (upwards?) to our Dear Leader “O” being tuned out and in turn being tuned out by so many of the rest of us.
Washington, we’ve got a Problem.
VDH is right of course. Even more so, we have tuned out our government. There is no longer an expectation that the federal government will be competent, responsible, honest, defend us, represent any more than the clients who pay to play… or even govern at all. The question at hand is whether this is acceptable to us as a nation… or whether we want something better… or at least try for something better.
We will see.
like Mark Steyn, and Anne Coulter, and plenty others, slammed Newt Gingrich worse than they ever did Obama, and he was the one hard-boiled big mouth, bare-knuckled fighter the Repubs had, whatever his many shortcomings.
Sarah Palin’s another tough cookie all the Repub smarty pants and dumb clucks pecked and stomped on real good.
You got who you wanted to go up against Barry Boy. So get on your Mr. Goody Two-Shoes, teach him how to fight.
And get on him right now, before it’s too late. What the eff are you waiting for?
but the “Repubs” (as you call them) haven’t any guts, you know.
exactly
fools get what they deserve
Even if romney wins, it will just be a lesser disaster. He will promptly begin his own version of Big Government, most likely with a version of Big Health Care.
The reason Gingrich and Palin were slandered and demeaned wasn’t because of their history or personal lives. Each was much more popular with conservatives than the Massachusetts liberal, and each either one would now be taking the battle tooth and nail to the marxists. They were slandered because they are the only two politician since Reagan to actually DO SOMETHING to slow down the government train wreck. That alone tells you everything you need to know about the Republicans.
The tragic thing is that so many influential people bought the propaganda against them 100%, including MANY people who write for or attend this web sit.
Now they are reaping what they sowed. It was completely predictable.
You have a one-issue candidate who isn’t even passionate about his issue. And as Rush said yesterday and many other people have said, there are a lot of reasons to think that the economy won’t be as important as it has been in the past. The obama welfare state has seen to that.
I pray the obama mission to turn 51% of the population into dependents isn’t complete yet, but I’m afraid that it is.
Meanwhile, butter wouldn’t melt in Mitt’s mouth, he can’t articulate a plan if he has one, and to hear him talk, jobs is the only thing he cares about. That won’t be enough against people who will rip your heart out and eat it to win.
Only a damned fool would not vote for a “lesser disaster” if that were his only choice. You follow, Obama troll? ABO2012
You’re not too swift in the thinking department are you Jim?
Anybody who thinks that the Massachusetts liberal is an answer to the country’s problems is the fool. He and his establisment fascists already won. They blocked the people who would actually try to make a difference. People like Palin, Santorum, Cain and Gingrich. Defeating THEM was the Romneyites’ goal. They might kind of like to win the big prize but not to save the country, to improve their position at the feeding trough. They also know that if they win, the leftists will descend on them like furies, but if they lose, they will collect their 20% per year and have no responsibilities other than to pretend they care about something other than their country club buddies. On the bright side, however, they don’t hate America…they just know, because of people like you, what fools Americans are.
And anybody who thinks I support obama is an even bigger fool.
I hate to bring up reality, but those people were not electable. Romney at least has a decent shot.
Everything you have just said is your opinion. While you are entitled to your opinions, no matter how baseless, asserting them to be facts may require you to produce the evidence if you want to be convincing. Now, I don’t call your assertions the mindlessness of a fool, but my own feeble mind is not fooled. Your argument sounds baseless, just like the arguments of the global warming alarmists. And I think that if you are not a supporter of Barack Obama, your opinions of Mitt Romney make me think you believe Romney would not be preferable to Obama. Just to be clear, I would support a dad gum yellow dog against the Communist, Barack Obama, and I hope you are willing to do the same. ABO2012
I think we are very close, if not there already, to reaching a state of irreconcilable differences that will not be resolved peaceably. Many talk of a cold civil war already being waged and if it ever turns hot, heaven forbid, I think the effects will be catastrophic. In the 1860′s, as terrible as that conflagration was, the sides were at least geographically separated and the majority of the casualties were soldiers. Not so if it happens again, especially in our large urban areas with their intermixed populations. And in my eyes there is only one political party that is pushing this strife, the Democratic Party. They put power and party ahead of country. Anyone that does not see this is a fool. And an enemy.
My thoughts….every state (or maybe even down to the county level) votes on a core set of values, communist, socialist, libertarian, classic American. At that point, everyone who is not of that party or group loses the right to vote. They can still live, work, pay taxes, etc. within the state, aren’t forced to relocate or uproot their lives. Over time, however, people will sort themselves out into the area that best suits their values, and the best part is, they have to live with the consequences of those actions. A tax loving liberal? Sure, you can move to a conservative state….but you won’t be able to influence their political choices. You also won’t be able to change their core principles using the Federal jackboot. Vice versa also works, you want a 68 billion dollar boondoogle train to nowhere…..well, if you are a conservative living, say, in California, you deal with it until such time as you can move elsewhere. That’s already pretty much the way it works here anyway. Want a liberatarian world? Move to Nevada!
We would have a very watered down Fedgov who will provide for the common defense. Senators representing the States, and House members representing the people. Maybe a national Governors Council. Immigration of new or non-citizens into a particular state will be up to that State, for example, if Oklahoma decides to ban Muslim immigration, they can.
Let the laboratory commence! I bet I know what the end results will be.
Never more unanimity of heart and opinion as in these 50 postings today. I’ve never seen this crowd of PJM commenters agree with each other to this extent before. VDH hit the sweet spot with this one. Can I say ditto?
Especially appreciate VDH’s description of the process of why America tuned out George Bush. Bush and MSM both did their parts. I tried to figure out GWB on his over-spending. The kindest excuse I could make for him: he was bribing the left/Dems by giving them all the spending they desired in order for the left/Dems to leave him alone to process a war on terror: to protect us from our enemies in the most direct/effective manner possible- land our armies in Iraq and take a nation away from them. Show jihad that war against America will get you killed and your freedom of tyranny lost – a language Islamists understand by nature. When the financials crashed for lack of adult supervision, there was nothing I could do but tune him out, and pray. Bush and Republicans were part of the problem.
Has anyone here read the book The Harbinger, by Jonathan Cahn? George Bush could have said the right things after 9-11, but he didn’t, and America is in a downward spiral of decline, and posters on PJM lament the dangers and harm we can’t reverse.
Clark
Unfortunately, King Obama will win a second term. Do we really believe that Onbama can be beaten by Mitt Romney?
I miss Christopher Hitchens.
You can’t put out a blazing inferno without people who are trained to do just that: Firefighters.
You can’t turn out a President if you don’t know how.
And Mitt’s people don’t know how.
There are two parts to the communication objective. Only two.
The strategy. And the execution.
So for, Mitt has no strategy. And no executions. I can say that because his ” compelling reasons not to vote for Obama, but to “vote for me” haven’t been articulated. Nobody can remember them. So far, Mitt’s communications team is playing badminton white Obama’s people are playing thug, lying Chicago politics.
Mitt’s strategy could be: Look at the dismal record of Obama and how he tries to avoid talking about it. Here’s what I’d do to fix things.
An execution could be the Obama people burning all the incrementing evidence (the things they’ve done that have wrecked the recovery).
This could be done in check list fashion as evidence (examples of Obama’s idiocy {raising taxes in a recession}) are thrown into the Presidential incinerator.
Meanwhile, Republicans have been throwing mud on the TV screen in the form of Obama’s own words and showing how he’s a hypocrite and liar.
It ain’t workin’. It’s bad strategy and benefit-bereft executions.
Yet, Hannity applauds it, and nobody on his show knows enough about the communication business to say these executions stink. It’s heavy handed stuff that’s the first and worst thing creatives think of. Independents and moderates hate these kinds of executions.
Without a doubt, the Mitt McCain people are true incompetents at running a campaign.
Newt was an easy target. Obama is a moving target.
The way I see it, the only thing Mitt’s communication people are good at is running around the conference table imitating chickens with their heads cut off every time Obama attacks Mitt. Every attack seems to take them by surprise. Mitt is no George Patton in the political wars. In fact, Mitt, in real wartime, could be fired for incompetence in the face of the enemy. In the business, we call Mitt’s communication’s advisers everything from “political hacks and nincompoops to rank amateurs and people without jobs.
At this point, Mitt doesn’t have the faintest idea how to hire people to develop a real attack plan (a strategy). At this point he should just attack, attack, attack. On every front he can think of. Just like Obama is doing.
Attack Obama, for instance, for being a drug taking example for America’s youth by his admitted illegal cocaine use.
Execute enough attacks on Obama till Obama can’t defend against all of them. Blow Obama’s campaigns to smithereens like Patton chewed up France, Germany and Austria. Politics isn’t for the faint of heart. Or the stupid of mind. The stupid of mind are running Mitt’s war strategy and communications. They’re making this a real horse race when the only thing they’re qualified to be doing is cleaning out the stalls.
Wake up Mitt. Before it’s too late. No vacations you idiot. Attack. Attack. Attack. You have a mainstream media against you. You won’t find an Ernie Pyle in the whole corrupt bunch. Hannity is so clueless about Mitt’s mistakes I can’t stand to watch him anymore.
Today Rasmussen has Mitt on top 47% to 44%. That’s pathetic. Romney should have a ten point lead of likely voters.
Point intelligent ordinance at Obama and open fire. You’ll get moderate democrats and independents in droves.
At this point Mitt is at best an ineffective counter puncher.
And I thought McCain was bad.
While Ike had BBDO, in New York, pro bono, to create his campaigns against Stevenson, Mitt’s high priced political hacks are giving him the coordinates to the Bermuda triangle.
In the end, after a close loss, Obama will be viewed as such a radical American hater that he didn’t get enough votes to win, despite Romney’s terrible campaign.
Fans, if Romney is the best the Republicans can do, it might be time to think about make some changes.
evil parasitic spawn that have no soul, have elected the evil bastard son of a black pimp pornographer and his white trash ho bitch and if there is no soul than destruction is inevitable.
SSSSSUP coon?
We all know you’re really Nostradamus.
VD – you think and you write well. But I gotta hold you responsible for the vermin and trash you inspire. Just look at what these fools think and write. Sad.
The “vermin and trash” would turn up even if it were St. Augustine himself writing commentary. (Or pick your own saint.)
Victor Davis Hanson does write well and there is no such word “gotta”. Try harder troll.
We needed a bigger-than-life President – we got President Zero.
We needed a well-grounded stable President – we got a certifiable narcissist.
We needed bold leadership – we got a teleprompter
We needed a seasoned hand – we got a hand in in our pockets
We needed a champion for American citizens… we got a champion for the invading horde of Illegal Aliens
We needed a skilled bridge builder – we got a class-warfare specialist and inciter-in-chief.
We needed practical, proven policies – we got socialist dogma and monumental waste
We needed an inspirational visionary – we got an ideologically blinded, left learning-impaired radical
We needed a Constitutional champion – we got a domestic enemy of the Constitution
We needed a restrained, intimidating warrior – we got groveling, bowing, Barney Fife
We needed a patriot – we got G. D. America, G. D. America, G. D. America.
We needed someone to unshackle our economy – we got someone who is a friend to our enemies and an enemy to our businesses
We needed a president beyond color – we got a green president embracing every whim and myth ever spoken by the kook environmental fringe.
We needed mature, principled leadership – we got a petulant, lying, whining, blaming, sulking, accursing, excusing, man-child.
It is a national disgrace that someone this incompetent, racist, and a American hating Socialist could be elected to the office of the Presidency.
In politics, facts don’t matter.
First democracy is a free republic run by heroes,
then it’s a choice between politicians,
then it becomes just a show,
then it’s a farce,
then its a tragedy.
We are in the “farce” stage.
I hope I’m dead before the tragedy starts.
I tuned out Obama when he and his supporters started in with the character-assassination and horrible negative campaign.
So not the Hope and Change I voted for in 2008.
The whole Romney is a bad, evil, rich man thing ain’t working…that and blaming Bush and Congress for everything.
I absolutely HATE Obama’s campaign ads and living in Nevada I am subjected to them constantly.
Dear Democrats: GO AWAY!!! If you don’t have anything positive to say. SHUT UP!
After 3 1/2 years of Obama we have the worst UNEMPLOYMENT since the Great Depression and more DEBT than in the history of the world. Usually for debt you have a car or a house or at least some new clothes? For Obama, over $5 trillion in DEBT and growing we have Solyndra! Yet just a couple of weeks ago Obama told us “The Private Sector Was Doing Just Fine”. The problem is the poor Government Sector and the solution is borrowing more trillions and hiring more Government workers? Why listen when that is the nonsense that comes from Obama almost every day. Worse, we get a terrible June Jobs report that tells us that only 80,000 jobs were created, not even enough to stay even with population growth, and that 85,000 people qualified for Disability and dropped out of the workforce to be on the Government dole? And what did Obama say about that? Obama said “Its a step in the right direction”! Folks, how long can more people go on disability than get hired before we face complete collapse? Not long, but Obama really thinks that is a step in the right direction? Yep, I’ve tuned Obama out because the nonsense he spouts is killing our nation’s economy and putting us into a steep and possibly permanent decline.
Hanson states: “a half million fewer Americans are at work today than in January 2009.” This is incorrect. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, January 2009 employment was at 142,187,000. Employment in the latest report (June 2012) was at 142,451,000, a gain of 264,000 since January 2009 — this despite the fact that the number of government employees has declined from 22,576,000 in January 2009 to 21,943,000.
VDH, excellent as usual.
I tuned out president obama in 2007… Yep… I never listen to any of his speaches. He talks like he is in the Ghetto.
Obama lies, and everyone around him lies.
And now they are trying to make a big deal of his vacation on a jet ski… big deal…… Really… Obama has already done 100 rounds of golf during our horrid economic malase..
Mitt will bring jobs back.
Agree with all save the criticisms of FEMA. FEMA was not organized to administer aid to localities after a natural disaster. It was long recognized that aid administration is most often best done by local or state authorities. Witness the tremendous success record of FEMA following hurricanes in Florida. The FEMA arrangement failed in Louisiana because state and local officials in Louisiana proved to be inept. Witness Governor Blanco declining to evacuate New Orleans on noon the day before the storm struck the coast or city officials allowing an empty AMTRAK train to depart when it could have carried hundreds of passengers to safety.
VDH fell short of his usual high standards on this score.
What is/are “renditions”. Is this a tactical or strategic term? Spook speak? What?
re: how can “the polls” be tied?
They are not. Mr. Romney actually has a 15 point lead among likely voters, but the same AP that would invest 11 reporters in fact-checking Ms. P’s biography and put none, nada, zero, zilch on Mr. O’s (ghost written) words (to say nothing of the MSM writ large) would never consider framing a poll to document this result (i.e. removing the Bradley/Wilder effect and worse). We can depend on them doing exactly the opposite until the day after the election when they will write and say “unexpectedly” yet again.
Mr. R surely knows this and more. Which would lead most to a fairly “conservative” (quiet) approach to the election – only speaking out when others have misspoken in his name and on topics where it is important that the electorate know how his position will inform his term (including “that’s a State’s business – if anyone’s, and certainly not the Federal Government’s.”)
The only way he loses is if the voters don’t give him a solid House and Senate. We’re past the point where gridlock (just having government stand still) will let us grow out of this mess we’ve made.
Barackula is draining this country of its life blood.
President Truman said about Nixon ” I don’t think the S O B knows the difference between lying and telling the truth” History is repeating itself.
At the convention, Obama will replace himself with Michelle as the Prez and himself as the VP just to shake up the voting.
I’m one amongst the millions of people who tuned out Obama. I tuned him out since 2010; I don’t want to hear his voice, it irritates the heck out of me; it’s like running your fingernails on a chalkboard. In my household, once Obama is about to say something, we change the channel right away. What made it worse for me, I voted him in 2008.
Linda,
I tuned him out in 2008, and I was VERY fearful of what would happen should he be elected. I NEVER bought any of the crap he tried to sell us. I don’t believe in the Democratic Party because of abortion, their approach to welfare (allowing it to become something handed down from one generation to another instead of being a temporary solution), and the fact that they do not understand that markets always work, and ONLY markets work (Milton Friedman). But Obama is a Communist trying to destroy the free market system, and I understood that four years ago. I hope enough people see what I saw four years later.
Great article, except for two things. You should have left Bush out of it, and there is no such word as preventative, it’s preventive.
That’s right! And luszcz is the sound I make when I get the dry heaves.
There is a clear distinction between Bush and o’bama.
Bush made mistakes; o’bama tells lies.
Bush served the country he loves; o’bama serves only himself.
Bush follows his heart; o’bama follows his agenda.
and so on…
Which is the exact definition of friends and enemies in politics. Our side makes mistakes, the other side tells lies. Our side means well, the other side is evil. Those people comfortably inside one of the systems can clearly see who is lying and who is making mistakes. Those of us who have wandered, a bit outside both systems see and hear a lot of sound and fury…..signifying what, ain’t exactly clear, but we will muddle on. According to about 40% of the people here we are at the most critical moment in our history. Apparently that is how they get people’s attention.
How much do you get paid to trash Republicans with moral equivalence arguments? Have you made this comment on a Communist blog site? You will suffer as much as I will during a second Obama term and then you will finally determine that being a Democrat was not as important as being an American. Go back to your friends over at Huffpo and try that argument on them. I bet you won’t make a splash over there either.
Victor Davis Hanson is an excellent author and columnist BUT re President Bush he lets Bush off the hook too easily for putting Brown in charge of FEMA. As much as I like George Bush he appointed an unqualified individual to a key post and deserves the heat for his poor performance. FEMA is, after all, all about mitigating major disasters. We have a plethora of highly qualified candidates for emergency incident mitigation but despite this an inexperienced, unqualified, crony was picked. Not surprisingly Hurricane Katrine turned out to be a bad time for Brown to get on-the-job training. It took a Coast Guard Admiral to get FEMA’s act together. Obama, of course, has done even worse. Holder is an abomination.
“What you do speaks so loudly I can’t hear what you are saying.”
― Henry Adams
barry obama must be defeated for exactly everything you exposed in your article but those of us who were not fooled by the phony hope and change knew exactly what he was and is….hopefully the American people will get it and he can move on back to Chicago
The inability of the American people to remove dishonest, deceitful, elected officials from office is indicative of the state of this country. Or did I say that wrong? The decision of the American people to ELECT dishonest, deceitful representatives of government is indicative of the state of this nation. Pray for the United States of America, for tyranny is knocking at her door.
It might be the angel of death knocking.
VDH mentions Harold Koh. When Mr Koh, as senior legal counsel for the SecState, toured the Afghan detention facility, he apologized to some of the detainees for their treatment by US forces. A member of his security detail, contracted former SOF, turned to me and said “days like this, I hate my job” Unfortunately he hadn’t seen what I had seen which was the photos taken of the detainees at the incident sites. You know…the ones of the “innocent farmers” squatting next to heavy weapons and bomb materials.
President Bush never had support from the left, but he also lost the right early into his 2nd term. Caving to Democrats on entitlement reform and throwing money at New Orleans after Katrina wasted any political capital Bush had from winning in 2004. However, the last straw was the nomination of Harriet Miers to the supreme court. By 2005 everyone knew that Bush had no ink in his veto pen, but conservatives thought that, at minimum, the Bush administration would try to put a few solid conservatives on the Supreme Court. Reversing course and nominating Samuel Alito avoided a huge mistake, but by then Bush had permanently lost the trust of conservatives.
I am amazed that the Republican party has yet again chosen a loser, and has no conservative spokesman. Oh if it were only Mr. Hansen. Get ready for another four years of liberal socialism becoming national socialism. The country is lost. Face it.
Obama troll.
How can this be? Oscama (mandate, penalty, tax?) is now running to high (choom) schools and community colleges to give speeches. Before, he was filling stadiums. People have seen through his thin skin and see his anti-American heart beating in rhythm to an inaudible inner marxist voice which the telepromptors are designed to mask. Can you imagine if his thoughts were actually expressed?
The thing with Obama is that he’s a very likable person, but few are keeping up with what he has done while in office. With that, voter will support him! Even though he has screwed up our economy and is trying to lead America to socialism, people don’t care about that, cuz he seems like he’s one that everyone would be glad to drink a beer with. This is what Romney has to deal with in this election (who is being painted as the out-of-touch rich guy). Wish Romney the best (cuz I really don’t want to see a lame deuck Obama in office for four more years, imagine what he could do), but he has a tough road to hoe!
I think that would be a “row”, not a “road”. I am pretty sure you have not done any farming. I am also pretty sure you don’t pay much attention to Obama. I wouldn’t have a beer with a Communist if I was thirsty. ABO2012
