Open up ANWR, FL coast, build new US refineries and get serious about alternate fuels besides corn ethanol. Brazil - of all places - is now no longer dependant on foreign oil because of its ten year sugar cane ethanol program. Why the US doesn't have a better one than Brazil is a mystery to me. And when we lose control of the border and the absence of the rule of law invades our culture, that's the beginning of the end of the American Republic. Failure to deal with both problems strikes me as pure insanity and we have no political will to solve either horrific problem right now. It was fascinating to listen to their disbelief that Al Qaeda would want to reconquer Spain! Utopians one and all, they simply can't quite seem to grasp that the world is a place still tragically governed by the laws of human nature--where selfish people will always try to take what does not belong to them. How to get them to see that diplomacy, therefore (in the words of Will Rogers), is simply "the art of saying 'Nice doggie!' until you can find a rock." I'm not sure that the utopians on the left will ever understand this. But as to the Re-Conquista you make reference to now in Spain, I can only say that we are witnessing the same here in our own southwest. It is a quiet peaceful retaking, for now.
