The War Against Palin Goes On and On and …
We Are Civil Now
In emulation of Jonathan Chait’s now infamous 2004 New Republic essay, “The Case for Bush Hatred” (“I hate George Bush—there, I said it”), Slate just published an op-ed, “Why I Loathe My Connecticut Senator” by one Emily Bazelon, with a detailed description of why she “despises” and “hates” Sen. Joe Lieberman (again, the same reason as Chait’s Bush hatred: too conservative and too in power).
So much for the new Obama age of civility.
Palin This, Palin That
In this context, since the moment of the Tucson shootings we have witnessed not just a campaign to smear Sarah Palin with the charge that she, or what she supposedly represents, is responsible for the mayhem, but that her rebuttals themselves are more proof that she is culpable.
Op-ed writers all the time employ the metaphor “crosshairs.” Democrats use targets to highlight their plans to unseat congressional Republicans. “Blood libel” long ago became a generic charge far more than a specific one reflecting its anti-Semitic roots. No matter — if Palin can be tied to any of that, then she alone is guilty of all that. So what is it that so bugs the media elite about Sarah Palin?
Didn’t She Say All That?
Is the problem with Palin that she uses inflammatory language far too loosely given her position of responsibility? Of course, evocation of “enemies, punishing, kicking ass, relegation to backseat, knives, guns, getting angry, getting in their face, hostage takers, trigger fingers, and tearing up” does not suit a national public figure and former vice presidential candidate. Oops, those allusions were Barack Obama’s, not Sarah Palin’s.
Well, then, confess it — Palin has a disturbing tendency to blurt out dumb, even wacky things — a sort of window into her Wasilla vacuity that daily reminds us why she simply is unfit for higher office. Remember when she claimed that the images of Berlin’s Victory Column were photo-shopped phallic symbols? Didn’t she muse about a radio talk show host being blown up “Mr. Big”-style with a CO2 pellet to the head? Sorry again, that was the New York Times’ esteemed columnist Bob Herbert and CNN’s Chris Matthews.
Fine, but she thought people in Austria speak some weird language called “Austrian” and she pronounces “corpsmen” “corpse-men” as if soldiers were some sort of walking dead, and she thinks there are 57 states, and she … sorry, all that and much more was Barack Obama’s, and they were slips after a weary day’s work, not “deep” reflections of reality.
The Great Divider
OK, I think what many people don’t like about Sarah Palin is her tendency to oh so subtly emphasize race — as in her celebration of a largely white anti-government Alaskan culture. That isolation makes her especially inept anytime she must deal with the multicultural, multiracial reality of the lower 48 states. Do we remember in the campaign when she said of Obama — “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man”? Excuse me, that gem was from Senate veteran, eastern-seaboarder, and now Vice President Joe Biden.
Well, what I meant to quote was Palin’s ridiculous description of Obama as a “light-skinned African American,” one “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.” OK, sorry again, that was the work of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
But maybe the rub is Palin’s complete lack of bipartisanship. Did she not as an Alaskan politician have the most partisan voting record in her various offices, or duck issues by serially voting present? Got me again — that was Barack Obama in the state legislature and as a U.S. senator.
Scary Stuff?
But at least admit her political extremism is deleterious to the commonwealth, especially her tendency to go over the top in demonizing enemies with inappropriate and hurtful language. Don’t we remember how she tarred the incumbent administration with the loony charge of “Nazis” or “digital brownshirts”? I apologize again — that stuff came out of the mouths of former U.S. Senators Robert Byrd, Al Gore, and John Glenn.
Well, then, there’s Todd and his strange Alaskan paranoia and his anti-government excess that almost sounds anti-American. Remember when he not long ago just lost it and shouted out that our America “was downright mean” and that America was always “raising the bar” on the Palins? And remember Todd’s unfortunate boast that his Sarah “is one of the smartest people you will ever encounter who will deign to enter this messy thing called politics.” Then, to top that braggadocio off, ol’ Todd blurted out: “For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country.” Scary, militia stuff no doubt.
Sorry again, that was First Lady Michelle Obama.
We could go on, but you get the uncivil picture. The popular hatred of a self-described elite culture toward Sarah Palin is almost inexplicable — whether expressed in Andrew Sullivan’s unhinged efforts to suggest Palin faked her fifth pregnancy, or David Letterman’s slur that she seemed a “slutty flight attendant” and her 14-year-old daughter “was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez,” or CNN guest host Kathy Griffin’s crudity that her next target was the teenaged Palin daughter: “But I think it’s Willow’s year to go down.”

VDH
The leftist extremists who vent their spleens in their message controlled outlets daily, have hated Sarah Palin long before there was any reason for doing so.
The CBS moppet-twit who was hired as cover for the Dan Rather/Mary Mapes fraud/forge/smear campaign, playing a game of “gotcha” to tilt an election, having learned that outright fraud opens a can of worms.
The faux erudition crowd, wearing Ivy wreaths, looking down their noses with eternal sneering and sniffing huffs…at this upstart that dares to challenge their authority.
You see, my dear cyberfriend…ALL matters are “settled” once the leftists declare it so.
The far left imagine themselves as a sort of permanent Charles Kingfield, they tolerate the great unwashed as long as they are adoring, compliant, and appropriately grateful for the wisdom and morality bestowed upon them.
They do not like to be challenged. Ever. By anyone.
Because they have lived in a media environment of their own creation, where the “fact checkers and editors” are in their pockets, they get asked no tough questions, their stances are never tested, they go unchallenged on every issue of every stripe…they believe not only in their infallibility, but in their deification.
Palin represents the embodiment of challenge to their status quo ante. And they must crush it. Immediately, incessantly, relentlessly.
It is not so much her…as a person, it is the idea of her. They resent the lack of fealty. The testing of their ideology. The exposure of their fraud.
Anything (Tea Party), anyone (Rush, Sarah, Beck, you, …) that exposes, tests, challenges their “settled” answers, represents a danger they cannot accept. So they rage, demonize, smear, attack.
It looks deranged and unhinged. In a way, of course, it is.
But mostly, it’s a survival instinct. Because the very “middle class” they pretend to champion, is what they despise the most. And, if the masses ever figured out THAT scam, the leftist con game would have to shut down.
PALIN NEEDS HER OWN PERSONAL “JAMES CARVILLE”
Conservatives need to stand up for this woman. Maybe she won’t be president, but she gives voice to many of our ideals.
The left is resorting to playground tactics as they attack her..because there are few if any that will very loudly support Palin. We’re as big a bunch of ninnies as the left are a$$e$
Sarah Bernhard made a statement during the 08 campaign…
“Bernhard warned Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin that she would be gang-raped by Bernhard’s “big black brothers” if she visited Manhattan.”
And the crap keeps spewing…from the left. She is constantly berated. I believe it is because she actually is charismatic , loves this country and that fact alonescares the poop out of the left.
Palinis a viable conservative woman and we need to defend her.
Sarah Palin (and the grizzly clan) are the heroes in this new hilarious animated web movie where Americans take back their country from Nancy Pelosi and George Soros.
This movie gives us the “head up the butt” person as an image (weapon) of ridicule. Progressives hate it when you laugh them into submission.
http://www.marcrubin.com/hairmerica.ivnu
Reminds me of the clergy in France during the rise of Joan D’Arc. A simple woman that the peasants identify with making them question the status quo. Next thing you know, they’ll be wanting to take responsibility for their own lives without the wisdom of the elites to guide them.
Here’s one from the base. Typical really. Two elderly old white folk, probably on Social Security and Medicare (i.e. socialism) singing praise for a political philosophy that would throw them under the bus in a heartbeat. They are the useful idiots to the GOP. They are teabaggers, hear the ROAR!
On another note gramps actually doesn’t have a bad country voice. Grandma needs some serious fashion advice.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1OJk0IoIpg
Typical really, a xenophobic lefty frightened of the regional middle classes and assuming in the most creepy paternalistic fasion that these two individuals simply don’t have the ability to think their own political thoughts through because they’re old / hicks / simpletons / rabble… or to cut to the chase – *different* (and more capable) than he is.
Don’t they know! They like all of the groups the left decides to patronise are supposed to be slovenly sycophants in love with the left wing party and the wonderful selfless puritanical moralisers such as Praetorain within. The same party which happens to be full of young healthy “elites” who wish to make health care utilitarian and based upon an individuals possible “worth” to society. Maybe they aren’t interested in supporting a party that speaks of them in terms of a cost to society? Or holds them up for ridicule by posting videos of them on forums as demonstration of some sort of…something. What exactly is wrong with that video by the way?
Perhaps (and this may come as a shock so hold on) they’re intelligent, comfortably wealthy, retired and able to think for themselves. And here’s the kicker, able see through and completely reject your desire to rule them.
Shocking is it not. What will the rabble dare to think next?!
We are teabaggers. You are the teabaggee. You’ve been walking around for months with our testicles in your mouth, and have no idea of how to get them out. It’s no wonder that you weep tears of frustration.
Hey Akatsukami, if you are the “teabagger” and I’m the “teabaggee” it’s my balls in your mouth. Just wanted to clear that up cause I know that’s how you like it. LOL! And bye the way, that video is the real thing I didn’t make it! That’s your base singing! And yes they are ignorant fools. Maybe the GOP should repeal their Medicare and their Social Security. We’ll see what kind of battle hymn they’d be singing then . . .
Old Praetorian is clearly quite proud of his superior knowledge of the, shall we say, intimate? details of tea-bagging. What a great commentary on the left! Most of the right didn’t even know what it was before the left brought it into the picture. And, we were better off for it. Thanks, Lefties, for another great contribution to culture. You can have Mapplethorpe, I’ll keep Michelangelo.
And here’s your base, Praeto boy.
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Xn_O-mM2sFk/SPIrLOIR0DI/AAAAAAAAB1w/xQrrXikaQso/s1600-h
Fine specimens aren’t they? One can tell right off the bat that these people pull their weight. Epitome of classical liberal education. Subtle political argument expressed in terms that cry out for intellectual respect. These are the smart, nuanced people the progressive left produces that we should all hearken to. Because they’re so smart.
You mock a couple of older people who’ve probably generated in any 10 year span of either of their lives more real value to this country than the 4 idiots in the picture will in all their lives combined. Plus either of the seniors in your video look like they could still knock sense into all 4 of the progressive drones at once were they to consider it worth their time.
So tell me, you pitiful progressive college parasite, should we consider repealing your 4 leftist friends federally guaranteed students loans and make them refinance the balance at the personal loan rate those two seniors would have had to in order to finance a college education in their day?
I’m all for it.
BTW:
You know what gets me the most about the picture of your progressive loser friends, Praeto? The young woman. Her mother must be so proud.
Now I can understand the 3 male jack@sses displaying their level of intellectual depth on their concave chests. If they could conceive of doing that in public at all, they own no standard of decorum anyway. But the young lady? Can she really be so obtuse as to not see exactly what that says about her own vacuous lack of self-respect? Of exactly how her 3 companions conceptualize political opposites who happen to own her gender?
The answer for that question, and the implied question of how those 3 men – so to speak – could publicly display those sentiments openly at all much less smirk like they do displaying them in the presence of a young lady is the same answer to why one of the marching morons on the left such as yourself can so blithely label a couple of senior citizens ‘teabaggers’.
And we should respect, give ear to, or even acknowledge anything you say or any opinion you hold as anything but more puling from the perpetually juvenile? Anything you stand for at all?
Disgusting piece of work.
Ah the return of praetorian. Yawn.
Those of us who WORK (just another crazy conservative concept) are forced to “buy” Social Security & Medicare for about 50 years before we get to use “the product.” How exactly is that socialism? It’s Praetorian, hear us SNORE.
Exactly. A product we have been compelled to buy. by Praetorian and his legions. Now that we have found out that his product sucks, perhaps we can compell him to refund our money. We’re coming for your 401K, Praetorian……
It’s EXACTLY socialism. We should be attacking it, not defending it!
It needs to DIE DIE DIE!
The fact that we’ve paid into it is irrelevant. It’s WRONG. Oh, and bankrupt, too.
As long as so-called conservatives defend Social Security, we have no grounds for complaining about socialized medicine.
A teenage girl says she hears voices in her head. Messages from God, no less. Skepticism is surely necessary. Think Salem. Hell, think common sense.
Or as Lynne Cheney once explained about the loud critics of her husband, “in our hometown in Wyoming, dogs don’t bark at parked cars”.
so very well put ans oh so true, I despise the self annointed elitist scumbags,
A bit too much “Deep overinterpretation” as to why the Liberals hate Palin. The real reason. Just use your eyes. Would you rather wake up in the morning looking into the mirror as Sarah Palin or as Helen Thomas ? Basic jealousy explains a lot.
Who would you rather have adopt your child or your dog the Palins or the Obamas and Rev. Wright ?
VDH is so correct and, thefore cruel, that he could be blamed for saying ugly things by simple comparisons. He has also outlined a campaign of ads for the Republicans – if only they were smart enough to use it.
Sadly, “former Senate majority leader Harry Reid” remains “current Senate majority leader and world-class idiot Harry Reid”.
Well Sarah Palin is everything Barack Obama is not:
1. She has a real birth certificate
2. She has real accomplishments.
3. She lives her conservative values.
4. She exudes American values.
I’m all in for Sarah or 2012. I am prepared to donate the maximum amount to her campaign. I am willing to head an office in my area and go out and speak on her behalf.
We can not afford 4 more years of Barack Obama. He is a one-man band of no, as in: no jobs, no drilling, no mining, no agriculture, no fishing, and no prosperity.
While the left in America obsess in their war against Sarah Palin, who in reality is a role model for Americans, they blithely dismiss the real war that threatens not only America but the entire free world:
THE ISLAMIC WORLD WAR
This is the sadistic sociopath Muhammed’s enduring gift to human civilization, THE ISLAMIC WORLD WAR, which has been burning for over 1,400 years and rages today on every continent except Antarctica, against everyone and everything “non-Islamic”. Let’s look at the facts:
Islam against…
- the Catholics in the Philippines (routine slaughter & beheadings)
- the Christians in Indonesia (routine slaughter & beheadings)
- Australian tourists in Bali (blown up…twice)
- the Buddhists in Thailand (routine slaughter & beheadings)
- the Hindus & Sikhs in India (hundreds of years battling the Islamic Jihad)
- the Jews in Mumbai (slaughtered)
- the Zoroastrians & Baha’i in Iran (virtually exterminated)
- Islamic converts to Christianity in Afghanistan (death fatwa)
- ancient Buddhist statues in Bamiyan, Afghanistan (blown up)
- the Chaldean Christians in Iraq (routine persecution, slaughter & church burnings)
- the Jews in Israel (routine attacks against civilians, threat of 2nd genocide)
- the Jews in Yemen (nearly exterminated)
- S. Korean & German tourists in Yemen (blown up)
- the Coptic Christians in Egypt (routine persecution, slaughter & church attacks)
- the Christians & animists in Sudan (genocide)
- the Christians in Kenya (constant Jihadist threat from Obama’s homies)
- the Christians in Nigeria (routine Jihadist attacks)
- U.S. embassies in Tanzania & Kenya (blown up)
- the athiests in Europe (the prime target)
- the native French in Paris (torched car terrorism)
- Jews in Paris (read the grisly story of Ilan Halimi, a Jewish shop clerk who was kidnapped, tortured and killed in 2006)
- the native Swedes in Malmo (Islamic rape brigades)
- the native Dutch in Amsterdam (routinely terrorized)
- Dutch politicians (Geert Wilders & Ayyan Hirsi Ali – death fatwa)
- Dutch cinematographers (Theo vanGogh savagely murdered by an Islamist in broad daylight)
- Dutch cartoonists (Kurt Westergaard – death fatwa)
- Dutch newspaper editors (Flemming Rose, Jyllands-Posten’s culture editor – death fatwa)
- Train commuters in Spain (blown up)
- Tube commuters in London (blown up)
- Airports in Scotland (blown up)
- Jews in Argentina (blown up)
- Jews in Caracas (blown up)
- Twin Tower office workers in N.Y. (blown up – twice)
- Defense workers in the Pentagon (blown up – airliner jihad)
- Army/Navy military recruiters in Little Rock (gunned down by an Islamist)
- Soldiers in Ft. Hood Texas (gunned down by an Islamist)
- Pedestrians at the U. of N. Carolina (run down with an SUV by Islamist)
- Journalists like Daniel Pearl (savagely decapitated by Islamists)
- Nick Berg, Kim Sung-il, Piotr Stanczyk, Jack Hensley, Eugene Armstrong, Paul Johnson (savagely decapitated by Islamists)
- Jewish centers in Seattle (slaughtered by Islamic Jihadist)
- Jewish centers in Toronto (terrorized by Islamic Jihadist)
- Infidel Delta Airlines passengers (underwear bomber)
- Times Square pedestrians (SUV bomber)
- Soccer fans in Uganda (Blown up while watching the world cup)
- Churches in Iraq, Nigeria, Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt (blown up)
And on, and on, and on…
THE ISLAMIC WORLD WAR – mandated by Muhammed who said “I have been ordered to fight the people till they say: ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah’” – Bukhari (8:387)
It is Islam against everyone, everything, everywhere that is not Islamic.
It is Dar al-Islam against Dar al-Harb. Them against us, not us against them.
Let’s face the facts and call it what it is. It is not a ‘War on Terror’ against a few ragtag misunderstanders of Islam. It is nothing less than: THE ISLAMIC WORLD WAR.
THE ISLAMIC WORLD WAR – Muhammed’s legacy – the REAL war the left ignores.
~ The Infidel Alliance
Infidel what you say is absolutely true but trolling it on every available subject no matter how unrelated just makes you look like a fanatic just as Mohammedans are.
“Daddy, what did you do during the war?”
“I attacked the people fighting the war, darling. Now go put on your burka so we can go out.”
Pragmatist, please feel free to ignore my posts. It takes a fraction of a second to skip over them. But understand that every time I post something like this a new mind is opened to the reality of what is going on.
Best regards,

The Infidel Alliance -
You are right. I had not seen your post until I stumbled across it here. Thank you for posting. D
You forgot the muslim conspiracy to savagely put peanut butter and jelly in the same jar. Diabolicky!
http://doncrowson.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Downtown-WFSU-Pledge-Drive_Mar202010_0474.jpg
Great post. Thanks for putting it down as such.
Don’t forget the 93 (?) CIA headquarters shootings.
Infidel,
You are very wise. Few people have the guts to stand and lay out the threat. When you list them in this totality it is striking to see. Americans are far too ignorant of the true threat. Recently read a great book called When Terror Comes to Main Street. The author paints very much the same picture. Not that I agree with everything our former President did or says but his recent book points out that he saw the tip of the ice berg anyway. History will prove he wasn’t just blindly carrying out old vendettas. I served in the military “over there” and as an old fat retiree I can say that the sleeping giant has definitely gone back to sleep. It will awaken again I fear, but the few crying out in the wilderness may be silenced long before. I wax philosophical about it but it is frightening to anyone who really looks. Anyway, good post, I’ll look for more in the future.
Don’t forget – no Internet, no 401k or retirement pensions, no homegrown produce…the list goes on…whatever he can think up to restrict and redistribute….
as I mentioned before the reason that our country is in deep sh… is because of people like you and because of people who are on huff post, like oberlmann.
to promote someone like Palin or the governor of mississippi who has led that state for the past year and it is still the most pathetic state in the union to run the show is unpatriotic. my 10 year old son can do a better job. because of people like you we will all be speaking Chinese soon.
m
So sorry, Miriam. I know you’d greatly prefer we all speak Arabic.
Francis: so not true. although at the rate we are going we wil all be speaking Chinese!!
Well, if not Arabic, Farsi?
We are going broke from paying money to each other. All we have to do is stop. Let the people who earn money keep it and the country will come roaring back.
Make a buck, keep a buck.
If those of us who earn our bucks keep ‘em, where will liberal Dems get money to “take care” of the other 47% of the country? Oh, they’d have to “take care” of themselves? Wow, what a concept!
You’re back! or at least on this column. Awesome. We’ve missed your diatribes, and complete lack of argument.
Why do you keep reading and responding when you can’t forment a good argument? How exactly is this country in trouble at the fault of columnists? We’ve always had hysterical writers, yellow journalism, biased media and political machines. Any trouble we have now is due squarely on the shoulders of voters. Voters who don’t take time to think, look at information presented, consider consequences, and look at a broader picture. In short, voters who probably think a lot like a 10 yr old boy- opininated about school and homework, probably would rather go out and play and have a good time, probably responsible within his family and to his friends, but for the most part, of a limited worldview- because he’s 10, and hasn’t had the life experiences that are required for good governance, or success in business, etc. A lot of voters are like that- they have a limited world view, and so look to intangibles like “social and economic justice” which have no meaning, and can be twisted in many directions. Or they look for the best story, or the coolest guy- like the kids that hand out candy to get votes for student council (well, in the days before the food police on campuses). The limit their reading and friends to people that agree with them, and then vote, in my mind irresponsibly.
How is VDH like olberman? Education? Hysterics? Outright hatred and vitrol? Writings based on experience living in the poor and uderserved areas that are often havens for illegal immigrants, and kept poor by suposedly well meaning politicians, vs. experience living in a downtown apartment, shielded mostly from the difficulties in suburban/rural america?
Dealing with farming regulations, seeing the effects of random decress by an interior secretary who is a physicist, not an agronomist or agricultural engineer, let along a timber/forestry expert or even studied/experienced in land management? Worked in the university system as a professor of classics, and seen the results of tenure, a primary and secondary education system running under the mantra of ‘don’t hurt their self esteem!’? Written books, journal articles, political articles and arguments based on historical examples, logic and reasoning? Provided historical examples to give context into his line of reasoning? I can see how they are so alike now. Truly, my eyes are open. /sarc/
You pick interesting comparisons, Ms. Rove, as always. And as always, you fail to add anything other than the usual progressive point-and-blame style of rhetoric.
Miriam, I’m not sure this column amounts to a promotion of Palin, merely a defense. And an observation of why the “left” (I don’t actually speak such jargon in real life, sounds weird when I say it) behave like howler monkeys whose territory has been encroached upon.
Please get back to us when you can craft a coherent sentence.
I concur, completely.
It is my assertion that those who regularly (and wrongfully)) accuse Sarah Palin do so maliciously — that they know precisely what they are doing. I also contend that it’s high time that Palin’s attackers were held to legal account for their libelous, slanderous behavior.
See: http://bereapundit.com/2011/01/19/absence-of-malice-my-ass/
How so? Palin has no recourse in the courts because she would have to prove libel and proof of libel is harder than proving God exists. Palin can be of great service because, as long as she is interesting to the entertain me crowd, she can show the sheeple that the media are all in the Collectivist/Democrat camp.
Jim -
So true. Excellent point. Thanks for pointing it out. The only downside is that ill-informed people begin to believe the trash from the left-wing media and begin to use their talking points against Palin, much as they did against Newt Gingrich.
I believe Sarah Palin is the equivalent of John the Baptist to Michelle Bachman, who, if she decides to run for the presidency, will sweep away Obama and the liberal left. We are going to witness an epic election in 2012 if Michelle Bachman enters the race. The left wing media has been so fixated on Sarah Palin it will be hard pressed to successfully sacrifice two good women at the altar of Obama…
The key thing to understand, in my opinion, is that all those people of “high stature” on the left that we all know and “hate”, especially the wild and loose gunslingers epitomized by a Chris Mathews, say, at their own Narcissistic core, believe that they are, THEMSELVES, more qualified to be president—in short, they take themselves to be her competitors.
All of them, then, like a stream of spurted sperm, are fighting to “win” the game and “penetrate” the “egg”, now known as Sarah Palin—I’m writing metaphorically! So, they HAVE TO say outrageous crap to thus leap closer to their goal.
Also, you can bet your bottom dollar that these types fervently wish—although they can’t SAY it, publicly—that it was Palin who had been shot, not that lowly congresswoman in Arizona.
So, you are totally correct, that the overwhelming “scary thought” is that Sarah will be around for many years.
Perhaps they—especially liberal women, and “men” like an Alan Alda—subconsciously compare her to Hillary, and knowing at least a little math, when comparing their ages, they realize that Ms. Clinton’s best days are behind her, and Mrs. Palin’s are ahead of her.
Oh, how depressing this must be for them!
The example of Clarence Thomas, as a staunch Conservative who made it to the SCOTUS, likewise must scare them to desperation, since the idea that a Palin, a Conservative WOMAN, could be the first female president, and not a leftist like Clinton, surely helps their minds go even crazier—and, they are ALREADY almost too suicidally nuts, as it is!
Call me an agnostic about the 2012 presidential election, and whether Palin should run, this time. Her CURRENT negatives are indeed terrible, with almost 3 out of 5 people holding her in low repute, so as of TODAY, she couldn’t beat even the con artist Obama.
However, maybe it’s “different this time”—ha ha!
That is, with Facebook, You tube, the Internet, et al, things have speeded up, and will even speed up further in the next year. So, perhaps Palin, as things surely spin further out of control—since bad things are cooked into the future cake, both domestically in economics terms, and in foreign affairs, as China and Iran and so on cause trouble—it’s possible for some of those people who would never vote for Sarah to change their minds, so that she not only becomes viable, but ardently to be wished for as president.
In summary, who knows—over time, the REAL person, Sarah Palin, could shine through, and rise above the present cacophony of voices trying DESPERATELY, to tear her down.
Remember, she was the leader of the basketball team that WON a state title, and in sports, you NEVER underestimate your opponent. In our 2011-2012 political arena, which is in dire existential straits, the competition for president will probably whet her fighting spirit, and all those people who THINK they are so smart and EXPERIENCED, and write her off—well, they’re playing into her hands.
Never forget, leftists never fail to miss an opportunity to underestimate their opponents, which COULD really boomerang on them when it comes to the fighter, Sarah Palin!
I think you are onto something here.
“Those people” you mentioned thought themselves way better than the current crop (or any crop) of politicians.
“IF ONLY” they can be as dirty, or as mean, …whatever, and they deigned to run for any office, regular folks would be saved!
Since they themselves won’t run, only their chosen one(s) should be elected. Hence any upstart nobody like Sarah Palin needs to be destroyed.
Sarah is a clear message to the self-styled elites that there are millions of highly capable humans out here who hold them in contempt, and because we are the people who make the country work, their inability to control what we think and believe is enormously frightening. Sure, the self-styled elites can control the ghetto dwellers, and a few million paid-off union workers, and the Hispanics who don’t think for themselves, but without the high-functioning white middle class, the country is toast. The country would thrive without a single Harvard graduate, but would descend into barbarism if the plumbers and mechanics refused to go to work.
And the problem is compounded because Palin is a woman, one with 5 children, and one who has lived a relatively normal life. All of that would be ok if we teabaggers treated her according to the self-styled elites’ stereotypes…i.e., the male teabaggers would reject her because she is a woman, and the female teabaggers would reject her because she doesn’t aspire to east-coast effetism.
But of course, her life story, combined with her pride, courage and obvious affection for our traditions is what endears her to the people in flyover country.
We know she holds our values, which are antiethical to their own. They value power; we value freedom. They value privilege; we value hard work They value deviant lifestyles; we value nuclear families. They value foreign concepts; we value American traditions. They demand a sure thing; we risk everything every month on our own abilities.
And the icing on their crap sandwich is that she is the most beautiful woman to ever appear in American politics. The feminists choke with fury at the sight of her. The eyes of the straight wives of the powermad girlymen are hooded with rage as they watch their husbands turn from them to the TV whenever she appears.
You nailed it
Pro, that was awesome!
However, I don’t ignore my wife when Sarah is on. She loves Sarah too! And my wife is still darn good looking !
Huzzah!
If your wife “loves Palin too”, she’s a CONSERVATIVE (& in your words “still darn good looking”). Pro was referring to angry, nasty-a$$ LIBERAL women whose “man friends” can’t help themselves from gazing upon the loveliness of CONSERVATIVE Sarah Palin, their most-hated enemy. They’re just infuriated!
“Sure, the self-styled elites can control the ghetto dwellers, and a few million paid-off union workers, and the Hispanics who don’t think for themselves, but without the high-functioning white middle class, the country is toast. The country would thrive without a single Harvard graduate, but would descend into barbarism if the plumbers and mechanics refused to go to work.”
Excellent comments. You need to write the updated Atlas Shrugged. This is exactly what Ayn Rand predicted. The looters and the producers: might against might combined with brains.
you make good points
After Sarah Palin gave her speech at the Republican Convention that connected with the people…the left knew they had to destroy her or she would destroy them…
The first second she was nominated they were out to get her.
Excellent choice of style to skewer Sarah’s detractors and thanks for the enjoyable read.
Help me, Obi-wan Kenobi. I want to be a Palin supporter, but the Powerline boys point to her unfavorables among independents and pronounce her dead meat. Her unfavorables seem to peak around times of the most vicious leftist attacks (the Obamacare vote, the Tucson shooting). I live on a weird planet. How do I change it?
I’ll take comfort for now in the idea of her running unsuccessfully a few times and eventually winning. But we’d better have some Republicans as good as she is in the White House from 2012 until her presidency, whenever it is.
VDH has gotten around to my original assertion, that Palin wont be president until 2024 or so. Her understanding of the issues should grow in inverse proportion to her beauty. I felt that she would get pushed aside for either of the I-95 boys (Christie, McDonnell) or the midwestern wunderkinds (Daniels, Pawlenty, Kasich, Walker) these next 1 or 2 election cycles and then she would still need to wait out some Democratic pendulum swing.
Pence/Palin in 2012 and 2016, Palin/someone in 2020 and 2024?
Palin will never run for VEEP again. Not after she was powerless to prevent the incompetent McCain campaign from shooting themselves in the foot. From then on her life is and will be on her terms.
Ditto. Read Going Rogue. She’ll never again give up that much control over her own statements and actions.
Palin was in the Gunsights as soon as she finished her Speech at the Republican Convention, and, not from Kenyanites, but her own Handlers. If you read “Going Rogue,” and, isolate everything her Handlers tried to push on her, they were working for someone else. A lot of money changed hands, somewhere, and, it was all marked to blunt any effect that Palin might have.
We’re all looking for someone to run with Palin, and, there is one man out there that I think would be a perfect match: Bill Whittle. He’s the only person I’ve ever known that is more Reaganesque than Ronald Reagan, and, thinkin’ about it, I don’t believe Bill’s middle name is Jefferson, but, considering his incredible, logical mind, maybe, he’s just ‘a’ reincarnation of Thomas Jefferson.
Arhooley. Powerline has NEVER been sypathetic to Palin and one of its blogers Paul is always openly hostile.
Today I was immensely dissapointed and even furious for John dismissing Sarah’s chances where his twisted opinion is base on CNN’s even more distorted and biased poll.
Powerline as an opinion making website is almost dead to me.
Instead fighting for her tooth and nail, they are kicking her when she is resisting alone the entire Obama’s grinding machine.
What a shame!
“Powerline has NEVER been sypathetic to Palin and one of its blogers Paul is always openly hostile.”
Hmmm. Romney supporters, maybe? They are the only group as terrified of Palin as the left.
I know the entire RINO establishment hates her, but nobody in the Republican party froths at the mouth about her as much as the Romneyites.
Agreed. I’m ’bout ready to take Powerline off my browser favorites, after having been a faithful reader for quite a few years.
Before the election Paul couldn’t write a column without trashing Christine O’Donnell. I shut him off soon after, just skipping past any of his posts.
I think I’m done with PL altogether since John’s latest blast.
arhooley, let’s see if a little electoral analysis helps reassure you of Palin’s chances. There’s just one simple question you need to ask yourself: Which of the states Bush carried in 2004 would choose Obama over Palin? I’ve looked at that electoral map several times and I can’t see any likely picks. Maybe Ohio or New Mexico would go to a moderate, newcomer Democrat, but in 2012 Barry will be an incumbent with a radical ideology and four years of national misery in his record.
Joe, it’s about two things:
1. The Mushy Middle
2. Base turnout.
Palin will turn out the base in record numbers, but they will not win the election alone. Palin will ALSO turn out the opposition in record numbers.
I have grave doubts that Palin can win the mushy middle. Like it or not, nobody wins without them.
Some years ago, I wrote that character trumps every other political asset. And character is Sarah Palin’s middle name.
The American people are displaying a yearning for public figures that are demonstrably trustworthy. Palin has that attribute, nor does she need to strain to display it. If she elects to run, and can get past the GOP’s old-guard gatekeepers to gain the nomination, she will win. Remember that you read it here first.
You have a good point. A POTUS has an unlimited number of people to handle the details. Picking a few good light-bulbs replacers is a lot better than being able to replace them yourself.
What we need is a person who understands why this country has become the greatest in the world, not somebody who wants to change it because daddy was a drunk.
We need somebody who can tell the difference between good and evil, not somebody who doesn’t accept the idea of either.
It isn’t all that complicated.
Palin need not run for the presidency in 2012 in the manner commentator and newly elected governor Reagan did not until 1968
Dr Hanson, very subtly, points out an all-important difference between the character traits of ex-Gov. Palin and those of President Reagan.
Reagan completed every term of office to which he was elected, even staying on the job after an attempt on his life. Palin bailed on the governorship of Alaska after two years, because… why?
Could it be: (1) Palin saw her opportunity to get rich, and (2) her job as governor got in the way? It’s just a guess, but it does fit the facts.
Character, as you state, does matter. Dutifulness and loyalty – or the lack of same – matter a very great deal, in fact.
Yes character matters but only to honest people. To Palin detractors character assassination matters even more.
And “dutifulness” — hey, I like a neologism as much as the next man, but didn’t “duty” occur to you? — can also include the recognition that one’s personal problems are making one a liability to one’s office. That was the case when Governor Palin, under incredibly intense, expensive, and distracting legal assault by means of laws and regulations she had initiated, decided to step down so the business of governing Alaska could continue unimpeded. Quite frankly, that’s near the top of the reasons why I admire her.
Don’t fall for the slanders. If you’re against Palin, make it for a good reason. (If you’re a Leftist, of course, you don’t need a reason, good or bad.)
thanks for your comment, markos.
Palin is still fighting, so it should be obvious that she didn’t ‘quit’. General Lee didn’t quit after Gettysburg. He disengaged, and continued fighting. ‘Quitting’ is what General Lee did at Appomattox. Has she thrown in the towel? No! Palin disengaged from a losing battle, shifted her position, found the enemy flank, and renewed her attack. Her resignation of the governor’s office was brilliant strategy, very much like Admiral Spruance’s turn east the night after Midway.
What so many do not understand is that to her, the success of the mission is paramount. She isn’t in it for self-glorification, and the left just can’t understand that
Her reasons were clearly stated, and, to any honest person familiar with the facts, are clearly legitimate.
She was being hamstrung and bankrupted by a dishonest attack by leftists, using phony ethics charges to tear her down. She could not carry out her responsibilities as governor, so, being a person of high personal integrity, she did the right thing and stepped aside, even though that meant giving the traitors what they wanted.
It’s really that simple. And, as I said, clear enough to any honest person.
But then, I don’t expect honesty from liberals or Romney supporters.
Francis:
Isn’t it interesting that the kind of people you refer to are found outside of the “RNC-DNC” circle jerk? American defenders of the United States Constitution rather than career political deal makers? Is there possibly a message in that reality?
“But for now, Palin, almost alone, has the star power, the ability to draw enormous crowds, garner attention, raise controversy, to be emblematic of that “don’t tread on me” unease — largely in her mysterious ability to connect with millions in the middle class.”
Dr. Hanson said that. Maybe there’s another non-lawyer, non-Harvard and or Yale “educated” person out there. Is it really about more than money? Who could it be that would answer the question?
I used to be a strong Palin supporter (contributed some money to her legal defense fund and PAC), but parted ways when I recognized that she doesn’t realize (or agree with the argument that) islam poses an existential threat to America and the West.
When and if she does, I’ll be back in her camp.
Well, Sharia-based Islam does pose an existential threat, but we have to get our own house in order first. Most of what the Tea party, and Palin, seem to be about is working to maintain our economic and personal liberties, and securing a strong, but Constitutionally correct federal government. If those things happen, sharia-based Islam will pose little threat, as it’s antithetical to American ideals, and a lot of it probably against our laws. Protecting the Bill of Rights and the Constitution will do more to protect this country than any grouping of political strategies combined. Perhaps that’s why she’s not focusing on Islam.
Plus, there is the possibility that her political strategists realize that any criticism will cause further damange, and engage the well funded CAIR, etc, in the cause against her. Let sleeping dogs lie, and all that.
Oh- and I write ‘sharia-based’ because I have known some Muslims in my life who were as quiet and dignified as some of the best Christians I’ve known. They strove to be good people, and in the eyes of the zealous, might be seen as secular, but they had faith, they just wished to worship in peace. They would talk about their beliefs, if asked, but otherwise, they kept it to themselves, living their morals, instead of expounding or forcing them on others.
Not all Muslims are zealots, and many live in this country precisely because their freedom is garunteed in a way it can’t be else-where. I just wish they’d be more vocal about it- although, honestly, if raising my voice made me a target of a violent minority, I might be scared to as well.
The mothers and fathers of all “islamist terrorists” were also, supposedly, “peaceful muslims.” Example: the family of the Nigerian (Christmas day) would be airline bomber.
Didn’t the Christmas Day attempted bomber’s FATHER turn him in by informing the US Embassy his son made threats?
That’s not the point; the point is the underlying demographics. PJM has a running article on Norway’s islam problem:
http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/in-norway-an-awakening-to-the-islamist-danger/
I suggest you read it. It isn’t about Palin, but about the issue which it seems escapes Palin.
Sarah strongly supports Isreal. She made a strong FB statement on Iran nukes. She supported Alan West, an expert on radical Islam. (I hope she chooses him for VP) She lead the oposition to Victory Mosque. If you are concerned about Islam, Without doubt she is the candidate to support.
when I recognized that she doesn’t realize (or agree with the argument that) islam poses an existential threat to America
??????
I missed that. Has Palin succinctly or categorically stated views such as you claim above? Speeches? Quotes? Facebook or Twitter?
Just asking, and just curious.
She, along with Glenn Beck, considers islam as simply another religion, and that it should be treated just as Judaism or Christianity in the US. She does talk about the “islamist terrorists” and ground zero proponents’ “incensitivity” towards the victims of 9/11, but she strongly condemned (as did Romney and BHO) the symbolic “burning of the koran” meant as an act of confronting islam by some Florida pastor. She has also been silent on the struggles by some European leaders (Wilders, Merkel, etc)to confront islam.
I suggest this is merely a case of “choose your battles”. And in fact Islam in the USA can be handled like other religions simply by enforcing the Constitution. This means no Sharia law. The Constitution, when enforced, is completely effective against Islam IN THIS COUNTRY. And she is on record as being strongly Constitution.
May I recommend another concurrent article by PJM:
http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/in-norway-an-awakening-to-the-islamist-danger/#comment-796432
good read.
Condemning the burning of the Koran was the right thing to do. Such an act is, at best, STUPID.
Islam is the threat, but burning Korans is not the way to defeat that enemy. That kind of grandstanding only plays into their hands.
If that’s your reason for thinking she’s dimwitted on Islam, you have scant understanding of the issue yourself.
Islam would like to be an existential threat to the US and it may very well be one to various parts of Europe but I think it’s highly debatable point it’s that great a threat to the US for the foreseeable future.
I respectfully disagree.
This cult, actually a violent socio-political movement founded by a paedophile race warrior and land invader barbarian “prophet” of the 7th century AD, is incompatible in its core values with Western culture.
Many articles in PJM have extensively explored this issue in the recent past, and so has the National Review, for example in:
http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/249704/islam-and-west-conrad-black?page=2
and in:
http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/250038/what-wilders-trial-means-editors
Evidence for your assertion, “X*”?!
>>crickets<<
Evidence supplied – you may disregard it, but by doing so it doesn’t make it disappear.
Silence on issues such as this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-3X5hIFXYU
and that one muslim person in the US today, will create 30 muslims in only two generations, on average (one, about five, and about 25, if you can’t do the math.)
That’s like asking for evidence that the sun shines.
For all the left’s nonstop mantra that Sarah Palin is ‘dumb,’ ‘ignorant,’ etc etc etc- then how come “Caribou Barbie” has never, ever in her life uttered anything as moronically ignorant as the Smartest Man in the World’s Cairo speech? How is it she never implemented nor pimped any policy matching the Neanderthal stupidity of cash-for-clunkers?
If liberals are the smart ones, then how come they believe such stupid things?
Actually doing something is anathema to the idealist
The press in this country, especially TV and printed press, isn’t only one with “double standards” or “no standards at all” as Sarah Palin says – but it’s a typical press of a totalitarian dictatorship that would only spin and publish material favorable to the regime in power. The current US (and European as well) press has the same credibility as the former soviet or current chinese “press.” Thus all these points VDH makes (which are accurate) aren’t mostly identifying anti-Palin attacks; they’re points connected to the “mainstream media” politically and economically corrupt core.
VDH:
A particularly enjoyable read,I concur with Brother JohnC in expressing appreciation at the way you structured the piece.
The reflexively anti-Palin crowd, (at the top of the game), is one based on Class. She didn’t come from the right suburbs or attend the right schools, she’s little Miss Nobody, from Nowhere, USA.
In this, the Republicans who flippantly dismiss her as being “unelectable” betray that they share the same Class as the entrenched DemocRat elite of both coasts.
Sure, they may caucus differently, but they were both frat pledges together at Princeton back in the day, so it is what it is on THAT score.
The middle class DemocRat detestation of Clinton is largely due to the fact that she stirs latent feelings of heterosexuality among some of the that party’s most hard-core constituencies; and, with another group, well…when you choose to present yourself to the world like THIS:
http://giovanniworld.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/janeane_garofalo_3.png
then it isn’t too hard to dope out why you’d hate someone who presents thusly:
http://blog.nj.com/njv_joseph_wardy/2009/07/large_sarah-palin-president.jpg
…now is it?
What’s interesting is how comparatively silent the DemocRat Black constituency has been about Palin.
I reckon that this can be explained in that Blacks know good and damned well what a lynch mob is when they see and hear it…and want no part of it, no matter who it is getting strung up.
The parallels with Reagan are almost cliche at this point, so I;d suggest the parallel between Palin and Margaret Thatcher. But I don’t think that Palin will have to serve an apprenticeship as long as did Iron Maggie.
At least I hope not.
One of the big differences between Sarah Palin and the other great conservative leaders you mentioned is a totally superficial one, but one that I personally have a difficult time overcoming: what VDH refers to as “her 24/7 authentic NASCAR/Fargo patois.” I find her to be painfully inarticulate and her way of speaking to be very distracting. I like Sarah Palin and her politics. I think she is a woman of real substance and principle, but I must say I have a hard listening to her speak. I fully admit that this is a personal pet peeve of mine and that it is a superficial issue. But I wish she would get a speech therapist to teach her to speak using fewer extraneous and awkwardly placed words. If she could eliminate the words “perhaps,” “this” and “that” from her vocabulary, use shorter clearer sentences and pause occasionally when she speaks, I think she would be even more effective when she communicates.
“One of the big differences between Sarah Palin and the other great conservative leaders you mentioned is a totally superficial one, but one that I personally have a difficult time overcoming: what VDH refers to as “her 24/7 authentic NASCAR/Fargo patois.””
I’m from “N’Awlins”, originally, so I’m rather reserved to doink someone on their native accent, no matter how grating upon the ear I may find it to be.
And while I do sometimes wince at the “Fargo” in Palin’s voice, it could be worse…she could sound like Fran Drescher.
I understand that Margaret Thatcher actually did take elocution and voice training until she was a master of the Received Pronunciation. I rather think that doing something like that is a wee bit phony, but the accent and glottal stops and dropped “h”s is quite a big deal to the Limeys. (I guess its one of those quaint little British customs, like cricket, that we find incomprehensibly pointless).
Palin’s accent is actually one of the things I do find endearing about her…whatever else she may be, she’s very real in that sense.
In any event, I don’t think I’d mind hearing how she recites the Presidential Oath of Office at her Inauguration in January of 2013…
I wouldn’t mind hearing that, either.
A lot of people felt that way about Lincoln too. When greatness shows up, you take it in the package it comes in.
Hey DML: Yes, that converntion sppech of Palin’s in 2008 was not articulate at all!
“I fully admit that this is a personal pet peeve of mine and that it is a superficial issue. ”
No, it’s not superficial at all. Reagan was Reagan because he was “The Great Communicator”.
It’s not possible to inspire people to turn out and vote for you if you cannot persuade them you are capable of leading them, that your ideas are correct, and that you have the solutions people want.
This is one of her main weaknesses. She will not sway the mushy middle by stumbling around the verbal landscape.
What about the MSM using their pathological Palin-hatred as a way to vent their utter frustration and rage at their paralyzing, pc incited inability to criticize BHO and his antics?
But then again, it could be seen as a blessing is disguise, because the MSM now knows what a flop POTUS looks like.
And the USA can’t afford another one.
I agree with your first point, Great catch,
Second point, not so much. The best thing about being a journalist is you never are responsible for outcomes. You simply “report” them – and conveniently forget the part you played in bringing them about. It’s part of the second year curriculum.
Amen to point three.
Palin is one of the gutsiest woman in politics today, but also the most middle-class. Those who irrationally hate her would be so better served to study her, to figure out why she manages to snap her fingers and get heard! Those who hate her don’t get Americans, in general. I believe that Americans in general are not malicious petty people like almost all well-known liberals are, Americans have a life and get on with living it. But, Americans sure enjoy both listening and watching her- so I actually don’t give much stock in her “negatives.” I also don’t care if she runs now for President or ever- just letting her have her say and watching the liberals get their knickers in a knot is as interesting as watching liberals dogma get almost daily dis-proved by history and science.
Palin is one of the gutsiest woman in politics today, but also the most middle-class.
I think this is a big part of the Left’s hatred for Palin. She resonates with millions of ordinary Americans in a way they never can, and that makes her a threat to their power. She isn’t one of the modern mandarins with the right Ivy League pedigree and that means their biggest claim to power becomes suspect.
If you want an insight into how the Left thinks about you, listen closely to how they tear into Sarah Palin. You, I, or anyone else from the middle class would be attacked pretty much the same way because they hate us just as bad. The Left piously claims to be “for the little guy” (a detestable term in its own right) while actually holding us in contempt. They need us a lot more than we need them – and they know it!
Be sure not to waste the irony on the MSM that Palin has a journalism degree. Journalist today think that the front page news is for opinion. Journalistic integrity becomes a new oxy-moron.
I would be easily convinced that Sarah’s opposition party has hired a hit/smear team, whose mission, since the Republican convention is to inject the narrative with the first crazy as possible falsehood, based on their own private hallucinations or spins from the news. The sustaining example is that ‘I can see Russia from Alaska’ piece. That manipulating-the-news-cycle -madness seems to work on the American public, God save us.
The MSM and hit team seemed versed in Mark Twain’s, “A lie can make it half way around the world before the truth can get it’s shoes on.”
It’s jealousy. They are mad at Sarah Palin because she is so attractive, and she is not theirs.
Worse, she would have been a Democrat, if the Democratic Party had lived up to its own ideals.
“Worse, she would have been a Democrat, if the Democratic Party had lived up to its own ideals.”
There is enough truth in that to make me very UNsupportive of Sarah Palin for President.
She’d do passably well in the Senate, though.
VDH: Interesting and spot on too. However 2012 is a critical year. It’s essential, IMHO, that Obama be a 1-term president and that the 45th president be a Conservative, hopefully from the GOP. If my hope is realized, then Palin, if not the 45th, will build rapidly and strongly on her base and come roaring into office in 2020 or 2024. Palin will remain a positive force for America for years to come.
Cheers.
De Tocqueville attributed America’s prosperity and strength to “the superiority of their women.”
Of course Palin gets the liberal left’s lace panties in a twist (and that’s just the men). She embodies all they find most frightening. She’s smart, strong, independent, intelligent and accomplished. She’s grounded, determined and focused. She’s capable of not just surviving but thriving in one of the last, great American frontiers.
The libs call her names and instead of pouting like you-know-who, she stiffens her spine, speaks her mind and gets on with her life.
What’s the lib-left’s greatest nightmare? A country led by Palin or someone like her? Or, the fear there might be lots of independent, strong-minded, outspoken, possibly armed “Palins” roaming frontier and flyover country alike?
The sheer volume of vitriol is a pretty clear indicator. Palin scares the living daylights out of them.
I think you’re being too generous by attributing the quote “For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country” to Michelle Antoinette. This was the corrected version, the first one went: “For the first time in my life, I am proud of my country.”
And you forgot the fact that Sarah, uh, I mean Michelle Antoinette is a birther:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBJihJBePcs
It is that ridiculous that there is that much material, and kudos to VDH … again! A tremendous rapid fire response.
With the grotesque, manic depressive, paranoid schizophrenic, vitriol, coming from the main stream suckling media of the Obama administration, the American People will be blessed with the sanity and eloquence Sarah Palin brings to the conversation of “government of the people, by the people, and for the people”.
“… And how can it be fair that Sarah Palin seems stunning after five children when so many in the DC-NY corridor after millennia on the exercise machine and gallons of Botox are, well, “interesting looking”? …”
There is truth in humour, and none more true than this quintessential VDH gem! Hey, there’s a deadly sin behind this one – envy.
I’m still laughing out loud – Brilliant!
P.S. National Enquirer reports that Madam Secretary of State Clinton has gained 40 lbs. Maybe Obamacare will provide medical diet assistance to help her avoid being part of the obesity epidemic – or will Hillary be the posterchild for the 2011 World Health ‘re-Organizations’ pandemic of the year!?
Filmmaker, George Lucas, believes the world will come to an end in 2012. Perhaps he simply fears Obama will not be re-elected and Palin will be elected.
It seems to me it would be a welcome end, but, more importantly, it would be a new beginning.
“Morning in America” all over again.
God save and bless our Republic!
Strange; This current bunch of Liberals all seem to prefer to keep getting mugged.
If any of you can stomach this go ahead. It’s the highest form of elitism on display you will ever witness.

VDH: Great post, as always. The amazing volume of posts all over the net and
in the media over the last two weeks is telling. Love her or hate her, Sarah is
a player. I would like to support the point made by Anonymous at #2 about the
need for conservatives to actively support Palin against the lies and smears.
To draw a comparison from my long-ago Vietnam days, she is walking point for
all of us on the right and she deserves a more backup than we have yet given.
She is a private citizen with no real portfolio. She does not have a Golden EIB
microphone to protect her; she is not in the political arena as a candidate and s
she is not directly connected to the Tea Party. Yet, she is able to stand up to
the most vile attacks I have seen in politics ever. Am I the only one who thinks
that she deserves some direct support from our emerging Restoration in the Tea
Party? As has been stated elsewhere, if the Left takes her down now, who from
the Right will be able to pick up the colors and show us the way? VDH is right
in his assessment that the time for Sarah as President may not be 2012. But where
are we going to find a better Reagan-in-waiting? Let’s protect this good lady
and great American until the day when she can be what she was meant to be.
you forgot to mention that she took on the corrupt business/republican machine of Alaska. This is unforgivable to the Republican big wigs that are in the pay of big business.
Alas, the press was silent on the election where the corrupt took back Alaska: only Mother Jones managed to point out that Lisa Murkowski’s “write in” campaign was bought by oil company money, and only locals knew the local press was trying to destroy the “tea party” candidate and ignore Murkowski’s corruption.
This might suggest why the “main stream” Republicans hate her: She is not a patsy for big business…
They fear her greatly, so they demean her at will, as not one of them has the nerve to actually debate her. Do not, however, underestimate how powerful the legacy media still is, up here in the Great White North I daily run into people who sagely proclaim how “stupid” Sarah Palin is, and when challenged, they can only observe that thats what they have heard.
8. Denio wrote:
“After Sarah Palin gave her speech at the Republican Convention that connected with the people…the left knew they had to destroy her or she would destroy them…”
I was very impressed with her then, and had high hopes; even seriously considered voting for McCain, but the more I saw of her, the more I heard her, the less she seemed ready for prime time.
VDH could do a lot better job at describing her weak spots if he chose to, but he decides to show that all the lefties have said bad and or dumb things (too?) If the question is why does the left hate her so, it may have to do with why the right hates all the people VDH mentioned so…in that THEY continually get mocked for the lines quoted.
She has a lot more immediate gut level support from a certain group of people than Reagan did at a similar point in his political career, but she is far less prepared to take advantage of it politically and BUILD upon it so that there could be such a thing as a Palin-Democrat, as there was a Reagan-Democrat. The fact that she appears to be a lot more comfortable with Hannity than with O’Reilly is also telling. Hannity will fall all over himself to support her in any way possible, whereas O’Reilly, full of himself as he is, might actually ask her a challenging question every so often. She needs to be able to talk to the center, but she is not there yet. Making all this money may eventually mellow her out so that she can speak to the center.
Regardless of the extend to which the CNN polls indicating Sarah Palin’s alleged slump in popularity are rigged and falsified, there is no doubt that Palin is suffering in result of the unprecedented wave of BARBARISM unleashed on her by the American Left.
If her chances for Presiedncy have diminished (and I don’t belive that is the case) then indeed the enemies of America, foreign and domestic ones have won.
Palin’s case is a litmust test of America’s state of mind, moral strength and political consciousness.
Although Palin has shown almost super-human courage and steadfastness in the face of those assaults, that opinion CANNOT be applied to America’s conservative sector.
The defence of Palin in the so called “Conservative” media can be described at best as LAME.
The Republican Party’s leadership, in particular, is showing the most repulsive cowardice as we are witnessing practically NO PROMINENT REPUBLICAN FIGURE even bothering to defend her vigorously enough to impact the anti-Palin propaganda in any effective way.
The weasely, furtive words of support uterred by Huckabee, didn’t even earn any mention in mass media.
Even worse and more revolting are the attacks conducted by some republican political figures and pundits like Krauthammer, Rove, Gingrich and many others.
So much for the recognition of Sarah Palin’s contribution to rescue the dormant fortunes of the Republican Party and bringing that body back from the virtual grave.
So much for the gratitude for Sarah’s, again, almost super-human effort during the latest elections and her succes in preserving the unity of the GOP.
There is no doubt that without her influence, the TEA Party would split from Republicans and that would for sure mean an inglorious end to GOP.
The abandonment of Sarah by the American Conservatives is one of the most shameful moments in the American history.
Sarah can survive that turbulence as a HUMAN MOST NOBLE.
America SHALL NOT.
I know, I shouldn’t intrude in American affairs.
However, I love Ameirca too much and I’m too compassionate about her politics to stay silent.
Appart from that, I apologise for my not so perfect English. It is entirely self-taught.
Uh, you may want to take a look at Howard Kurtz’s column today when it comes to public support of Palin by her own party:
http://www.sanfranciscosentinel.com/?p=104562
Money Quote: “Mansour did not respond to requests for comment. Some of those familiar with Palin’s operation say she doesn’t want others speaking for her, at least for now, and feels she gets hammered whether she attempts to explain herself or not. But for a potential presidential candidate to have no apparatus for massaging the media is remarkable.”
You can’t expect, say, John Boehner to give a press conference in support of Sarah if Sarah is not wanting it at this time. Or, to be more accurate, doesn’t have enough trust in her own party to accept the help.
This is the best blog.
Isn’t it always good for a few grins? Much needed comic relief.
Poor Cybergeezer.
40 plus million of us slandered by the blood libel media for 2 weeks and our “leaders” uttered not 1 word in defense..NOT ONE WORD..A housewife from Wasilla Alaska spoke up and defended us 40 million….She spoke truths, she spoke from her heart about a senseless massacre. NOT ONE WORD FROM OUR LEADERS…Screw you Rove et al…..All of you rot in hell ….WE/I am following our leader, the one who defended us conservatives in public. Who stood tall when our enemies savaged us in print. The RNC got a Rove pet in charge…Rot in hell…I follow the housewife now……JOIN ME
I wonder how many independents and non progressive Democrats got an education this week. The Democrat media complex may have sold their goods to the more gullible among us but a lot of Americans were sickened by the blood libel and Alinsky disinformation assault. Newt Gingrich made a fool of himself implying Sarah had been at fault in some unspecific fashion. The tireless self promoter kicked her in his own smug, patronizing way, thinking she was down. But she’s not down, just a little bruised. Having failed to comprehend she really is a momma grizzly, Newt exposed his utter lack of integrity and told the Palins that he, although supposedly a highly regarded conservative, was not someone to be trusted. Good that’s been made clear to us all. Did any in the presidential contender field rise to her defense? No, they all seem to be in hiding from the media orcs. No brave hobbits among them, much less valiant knights.
The more Sarah Palin is attacked the more I want to defend her. The scariest thing about the the attacks on her is the fact that they are so mindless…so lacking in substance…so robotic. Literally Pavlovian. I find it frightening and ominous that so great a mass of people can be whipped into this kind of mindless frenzy. If it weren’t so deadly serious it would be comical. Do these idiot libtards not realize that they are acting no differently than the medieval crowd screaming “burn the witch” in Monty Python’s Holy Grail. At least some of them – the guy that got turned into a newt – “got better”. Not so with the lunatics around us.
Thanks for this great article. In the latest round of bashing, the bashers, like all haters, hurt only their own reputations. They will learn that once you lie to people, and the truth is later exposed, you NEVER regain trust. The old MSM were abandoned by many of us years ago because of that.
Those of us who studied Shakespeare’s Othello see slander as evil second only to murder. “He who steals my purse steals trash, tis his, twas mine and has been slave to countless. But he that filches from me my good name takes that which not enriches him, and leaves me poor indeed.” We who admire Mrs. Palin must speak up for her to defend a unique national treasure.
The entire political class, including RINO’s like Bush the elder, are scared of anyone who dares challenge their elitist view of themselves. I really don’t think
news of the November elections has reached their ivory towers. It’ll probably take at least another round before they realize this is not the past when the majority remained silent.
This article might shed some light from a females point of view. Myself I’m neither hot nor cold towards Palin. I know lots of Ladies like her living in Alberta.
She does have spunk though. The Lefty will never stop hating her. Her very life is an affront to them. A reminder of how decadent, nihilistic a mind that motivated the Progressives have become. How can you claim a moral ground, when you don’t believe in one at your core? It becomes social suicidal.
Human Nature becomes murky, lies sound like truth. Hiding the truth becomes the standard.
She refused to kill her , In their sick minds “defective baby”. It showed them for the ghouls they are.
Like Dorian Grey they have seen there true image of unfettered corruption in its insane form.
Yet she hides under no portrait of Political infallibility, or immortality politically as the self described Elite holds themselves.
It drives them mad to see what creatures they have become, compared to a healthy norm.

Now “Robin of Berkeley”, a self-proclaimed recovered liberal, gives her take, very much from a female perspective. It’s a fascinating read.

If any Conservative showed any Liberal even a tenth of the vitriol heaped upon Palin and her family each and every day by the hypocritical Left there would be hell to pay.
All the attacks and diatribe Mrs. Palin is dealt by the left has the opposite effect of their intentions. Sarah is gaining quite a bit of credibility and experience, this hate and blood libel against her is maturing her politically in ways that makes her even stronger and wiser.
It is good training if she becomes President.
President Palin will know very well how to deal with America’s worst enemy. The enemy within our midst.
These last weeks have sealed the deal for me. I always have admired Sarah, had a few minor reservations about voting for her if she chooses to run. How she has carried herself and wisely dealt with the level of hate and blood lust for her death from the mouths of my fellow Amerikans is testimony to her greatness of spirit, character and faith. Here is a person who has never backed down or deviated one iota in her principles and patriotism for our country and we the people. Nor has she ever needed to, because here is an honest truthful steadfast American worthy of our trust in being our highest elected representative.
I think if Sarah is President I never have to worry, or be bitter, about a shadow government that is coming in the dark of destruction for the bible, guns, faith and self made prosperity I cling to.
I believe a large part of the Legacy Media’s dislike of Palin originated in her surprise selection as McCain’s running mate. The press had all the “favorites” staked out, waiting for the big announcement, and were completely flummoxed by the ultimate choice. “Make me look stupid, will you?” they seemed to seethe, as they brusquely waved for a refill of their boysenberry daiquiris. Thus the subsequent deployment of hundreds of operatives to Alaska, to dig for dirt in the minutes of city council meetings. Fortunately there was nothing for these people to do in Chicago, no Ayers, Wright, or ACORN to investigate.
All this BS is an old, old story.
Here’s what Tom Lehrer said about overcoming ‘toxic speech’, many years ago:
Oh, the white folks hate the black folks,
And the black folks hate the white folks.
To hate all but the right folks
Is an old established rule.
But during National Brotherhood Week, National Brotherhood Week,
Lena Horne and Sheriff Clarke are dancing cheek to cheek.
It’s fun to eulogize
The people you despise,
As long as you don’t let ‘em in your school.
Oh, the poor folks hate the rich folks,
And the rich folks hate the poor folks.
All of my folks hate all of your folks,
It’s American as apple pie.
But during National Brotherhood Week, National Brotherhood Week,
New Yorkers love the Puerto Ricans ’cause it’s very chic.
Step up and shake the hand
Of someone you can’t stand.
You can tolerate him if you try.
Oh, the Protestants hate the Catholics,
And the Catholics hate the Protestants,
And the Hindus hate the Muslims,
And everybody hates the Jews.
But during National Brotherhood Week, National Brotherhood Week,
It’s National Everyone-smile-at-one-another-hood Week.
Be nice to people who
Are inferior to you.
It’s only for a week, so have no fear.
Be grateful that it doesn’t last all year!
Tom Lehrer had such a way with words …
Roger Waters. “Amused To Death”.
When Palin first came on the scene I was a supporter and my wife was not.
I wanted an outsider with common sense and she has both qualities. Since all
the frivolous lawsuits by the Celtic _____ (or whatever her name) and the fact
that the Alaska judicial system is so broken, and the recent book writer that
moved in next door to spy on them, my wife has turned more in sympathy of
another woman. These Jerry Springer wannabe TV news people remind me of the
church scene in the movie, The Graduate, where Dustin Hoffman is banging on
the glass screaming Elaine while both sides of the wedding families are
cursing him. In this case her.
Comparisons of Palin’s path to Ronald Reagan’s ignore the important reality of today: everything moves faster. It no longer takes a decade to build name recognition. You no longer have to write the occasional op-ed (which Palin does) — at least if you can post a facebook entry to over two million people any time you want. Anything she says is picked up. She is probably better known today that Ronald Reagan was the moment he won the 1980 nomination.
2012 is not too soon, in this fast paced electronic world — it’s a very long time from today.
The truth is:
The left would twist them in knots over having the first female president of the USA being a Conservative.
The lefties want to own the narrative of “equality” and when a woman dares have conservative values they turn into rabid anti-woman hating spazzoids.
The hypocrisy is hilarious and pathetic all at once.
imho palin has been pitch perfect for someone who is running for president
I’d be surprised if she didn’t run. she’d beat any other pubbie for the nomination. Her “blood libel” speech really zoned out a lot of presidential hopefuls.
I saw jeb bush being interviewed by Geraldo Rivera on Fox the other night after her “blood libel” speech. Jeb was very
very uncomfortable saying anything that even suggested that he was against palin despite the many opportunities that Geraldo Rivera gave him.
I mean really the whole demeanor of the guy showed that the pubbies had been seriously moved by palin’s speech. That speech had the same weight as her “death panel” speech.
Dr. Hanson as usual nailed it. Sarah Palin WILL be around for a long time; constantly learning and evolving into one of the finest spokesperson for American Voters. One day she could “evolve” right into the White House.
Another perspective on why The Elite hate Palin:
http://www.americanthinker.com/2011/01/why_the_left_hates_sarah_palin.html
From a self-described Leftist, no less!
What a fantastic article, Mr. Hanson. Kudos to you, my friend. It appears that the chorus of Mrs. Palin’s defenders is growing. We are a motley crew: governors, waitresses, liberal Jewish leaders, small-town priests, senators, construction workers, foreign leaders, and stay-at-home moms. Our backgrounds are as varied as the many versions of the “her political future is done” narrative being perpetrated on us by the media, on a daily basis. We proudly stand with former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Join us: http://www.facebook.com/defendpalin. Also on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/DefendingPalin. God bless.
The way I see it, what Sarah brings to the battle is a willingness to stand in stark contrast to the ideology of her opponents … and (having learned the hard way in 2008) not let the GOP professional/political class change her in ways that will diminish that contrast.
She is true to herself, not bound by the conventional wisdom, and is not afraid to ask “WHY?” when it comes to changing herself in the name of “electability”.
She is also the example for a different way of thinking about our leaders on our part … that basic, simple wisdom is of greater value to this nation than academic genius … that an ordinary, but wise, person who both knows their limitations and knows how to combine the knowledge/effort of others with their own to get things done, is of far greater value to this nation as a leader than a Nobel laureate or Rhodes scholar who lacks the above attributes.
The realization of what she represents in this regard leads to a deep fear of her in two camps.
The Progressive Left has an obsessive fear of her … because if the conservative worldview is seen as credible by enough people through the contrast she presents, the value to society of their own preening as “enlightened intellectuals” will be diminished … and their own self-worth is too heavily invested in such preening to let that go unchallenged.
And the professional/political class … from Rove to Obama … knows that, if someone like Ms. Palin can work around them to attain high office, their services will be rendered as obsolete as the buggy whip in short order. Her presence, and the presence of those like her, is a direct threat to their meal tickets.
Hence the vitriol directed at her … because she threatens both camps’ ability to engage in flashy political swordplay and benefit from it, like Indiana Jones “conclusively” threatened a swordsman of another kind.
In this light, she may be the very candidate … and elected leader … we need at this time in our history, to CTL-ALT-DEL this nation so it forsakes the blind worship of intellectual acumen and returns to the common-sense values that got us here.
But that doesn’t mean she should be anointed by us… she needs to be challenged, right along with anyone else who throws their hat in the ring … challenged in ways that will reveal AND sharpen her as a leader.
However, let’s not strain at every gnat that offends our own sensibilities as we do so, either … and make the Regressives’ job easier for them by giving them more unfounded talking points to use against her. At the risk of sounding uncivil, let us “fire for effect” in our assessments.
As I had written in my previous post that in English gematria, the system of assigning numbers to letters, if you enter Sarah L. Palin, which is her full name with the middle initial, you will get the numeric value of 666. For those who don’t understand, Google – English gematria. I have included two separate links to two separate English gematria calculators below for you to see it first hand for yourself. See it and heed its meaning. I had always foreseen this since the 2008 election campaign. Now I proved it for everyone to see.
But wait, what do we have in store for the future? Here it is below so look into these words in the English gematria calculators in the links also —
American beast = 666
Lady of evil = 666
A martial law = 666
Anarchy U.S.A. = 666

http://real-world-news.org/numerics/english-gematria.html
Voyage To the Bottom of the Sea = 666
Aluminum foil = 666
Mustard = 666
40th Anniversary of the First Appearance of the Silver Surfer = 666
Wainscoting = 666
Jane Austen = 666
Rivets = 666
John Denver = 666
Olive Drab model airplane paint = 666
terracotta = 666
I thought Jane Austen was 666.7.
Dave,Dave….Here I thought 666 was Ronald Wilson Reagan…. get some rest Buddy, the wheels are spinning a little too quickly
Cue the Theremin!
phuleeze …
perfect example of why Christians should quit attempting to be Kabbalist JEWS– you understand zero about actual numerology, how people’s numbers are calculated (which includes so much more like BIRTH DATE and place) Your juvenile imititation numerology attempt above proves that you don’t know zip about numerology. Only people who have studied extensively the HEBREW letters in the Word should even attempt to delve into that area.
Magical thinking is not really the topic here.
BTW 666 is a mistranlation like much of what you embrace- the actual number was 616 and signified NERO
Spell her name in full = one incredible woman who will be President of the USA in two years. You get the same if you use French numerology, the I Ching and the Tarot deck. So cool.
Adolf Hitler and Osama Bin Laden in English gematria has a numeric value of 660, which is the approximate number of the beast. But only Sarah L. Palin has the numeric value of 666, which is the biblical number of the beast.

According to Hebrew gematria, the system of assigning numbers to letters, the name Sarah Palin, without the middle initial, also has a numeric value of 666.
The name “Sarah” in Hebrew is spelled:
Shin = 300
Resh = 200
He = 5
The name “Palin” in Hebrew is spelled:
Pe = 80
Aleph = 1
Lamed = 30
Nun = 50
Total = 666
Edgar Cayce, a world renowned psychic in the twentieth century, who was also known as, “The Sleeping Prophet” had this to say when asked the question below while in a self induced state of sleep –
Question :
In what form does the Antichrist come, spoken of in Revelation?
Answer:
In the spirit of that opposed to the spirit of truth. The fruits of the spirit of the Christ are love, joy, obedience, long-suffering, brotherly love, kindness. Against such there is no law. The spirit of hate, the Antichrist, is contention, strife, fault-finding, lovers of self, lovers of praise. Those are the Antichrist, and take possession of groups, masses, and show themselves even in the lives of men.
I’ve just found a proper phrase to describe precisely the nature of the attacks on Sarah Palin: A “Tsunami of Barbarism”.
I have a theory that this whole phenomenon is actually all about the old mob concept of “making the bones.” People with skeletons in their past have something to fear so they can be controlled.
Let’s face it, the legacy media is a scam and it is not separated from those that would control us except by artifice. Reacting to each individual broadcaster/writer’s blitherings makes us fools because we are missing what is going on behind the curtains. It is not even a very good lie anymore. Look how many media types take big corporate paychecks to claim they are “for the little people.” Why does anyone still fall for it? I’m going to just say it — MSNBC is what it is because GE wants it to be so. David Letterman, Couric, Blitzer, and all the rest are what they are because the big corporations that write their paychecks want it to be so.
So how does that relate to Palin? Because at the time McCain selected her she had never sold out. She was a normal, middle class mom — and more than that — she had been in situations where she was offered wealth to give up her principles and she built a reputation of turning down the money.
OK, if she wouldn’t sell out, how could she be controlled? The power behind the media determined that she could not be controlled, she would not make her bones, and the only choice they have is to destroy her.
The campaign against Palin is well-funded and incessant. I don’t think for a minute that the vast majority of the media personnel care at all. However, I do think they know who signs their paychecks and they do what they are told.
35. jjkrn
I agree -she campaigned for about 30 new tea party congress critters, and no one was reported as speaking out against the slander. No gratitude.
Nice list of quotes from the Ruling Class, VDH. I’m still trying to confirm my all-time favorite. Maybe you or a passing reader can help.
“Big Fur Hat,” over on American Thinker, claimed in a comedy piece last year that among a list of dumb things said by Joe Biden (most of which I know Biden DID say) was a comment he made to a group of school children that water circles the drain backwards in China (i.e., counterclockwise). This is my favorite stupid quote from a politician, particularly rich coming from an arrogant ass like Biden who claims his I.Q. is way above average—but is it true?
I can’t find a confirmation online, and I’ve spent some time at it. Does anyone have the answer to this mystery?
Regarding Palin–I agree that she is a political and cultural phenomenon. I think the reason is that she is principled, fearless, spunky, and sincere in Public Virtue (“The will and capacity to put the public interest over the private”)–meaning she’s neither a professional politician nor a careerist. Most who go into politics begin as careerists or are seduced into becoming one by the ego rush of the power culture(the original meaning of “seduced” was political). Newt Gingrich seems one of these latter today. Let’s hope Palin continues to represent our ideal of the Citizen Legislator, or as close to it as we are likely to get in the current climate.
VDH,
Well done. The body of the piece is thoughtful and entertaining; but the conclusion drawn in the last two paragraphs is brilliant.
And don’t forget my favourite Palin howler: in a speech to muslims that was intended to be conciliatory, she spoke of the right of muslim women to wear the “hajib” (she meant “hijab”).
Just joking, that was George Bush.
Whoops, no sorry, it was in fact the current president of the United States.
So you believe words are more important than actions and convictions. You’ve been duped by polished empty suits with pretty words and dangerous actions.
Oops–misread your comment. My apologies. Good point.
Love you, Dr. Hanson!
You hit the nail on the head:
“Palin is scary not so much in 2012, but that she could be around — and be around in an evolving way — for a long time to come.”
It’s a Catch 22. Whether Governor Palin runs or not the hatred on the left and scorn from “sober and judicious conservatives” will not stop. Because it isn’t about her position. It’s her personal power. That’s why her Twitter and Facebook accounts are the only ones with power. She’s the source of the power not the implements she uses.
Her critics would love to see her sidelined to fundraising (RNC chair!) or mere campaigning for other candidates. But, you can’t keep greatness bottled up. An official office only makes it’s impact flow easier.
The only fearless MAN in the whole bunch is Sarah Palin. While Americans are nostalgic for the American Spirit, rugged individualism & common sense conservatism Palin evokes, it’s not enough to offset the wimp voters who give in to the Left narrative that Palin is too divisive.
Sadly, most voters have a kumbayah mentality & will vote for a weaker candidate (i.e., Obama, RINO) just to avoid all the vitriolic noise generated by the Lametream media & left leaning comics, pundits et el. Wish I could have more faith in the American voter, but the last election of the un-vetted Obama is proof in the pudding that maybe only the teapartiers have the fight in them.
That said, still hope Sarah runs in 2012 & not wait, as VDH implies, for a latter election…she’s been on the scene long enough to have already generated a fire in the bellies of the many for whom she speaks & we can’t afford to let that flame sizzle if she waits too long to run for President.
Doc, Sarah Palin may be a stripling whose time to govern the US has not yet come; what’s your excuse?
I’ve been insisting for more than a year on the Hanson/Palin 2012 ticket; I’ve written to you, commented, blogged about it.
When are you going to throw your hat into the ring, Doc?
C4P says that you are “C4P’s favourite intellectual, Victor Davis Hanson”. Sarah will not accept the VP slot to anyone in the present Republican Party Doc, but I suspect she would be honoured and delighted to play second fiddle to you! Hanson/Palin will be unstoppable!
Doc, when the Republicans themselves call her “unelectable”, what they really mean is that they are afraid that when it comes to those debates between herself and Barry she would get slaughtered intellectually. My take is that that will never happen; she could very well hold her own and give Barry-boy’s narcissism , standoffishness, and false sense of superiority a chance to get the better of him much as they did of Joe Biden–and this is not the same Sarah as the one in the VP debate!
But this will all be academic if YOU run at the top of the ticket, Doc.
I would love to see YOU in a debate with Barry-boy; who would get slaughtered then?
I would love to see Sarah in a second round mano-a-mano against the increasingly senile Joe (or even against Hillary!)
I would love to see all the faux-Republicans come running back into the Conservative fold when the Hanson-Palin 2012 ticket is mooted and then announced. Whom will Frum and Brooks and Parker rail against then? Palin again? You? Conservatism? More fool them!
You say, and I suspect you hope that, Sarah Palin will be around for a long long time; that is most earnestly to be desired, Doc, and it will be in a position of power, as POTUS, if she sits at your feet for four or eight years, as V-POTUS before that, Doc, which, I suspect, she would be greatly honoured to do!
Ask her, Doc! And then announce HANSON/PALIN 2012!
What I think is
Yknow what is worst for SP then the “Palin is a divisive moron” meme? The “Palin speaks poorly, without thinking” meme. “Palin speaks poorly, without thinking” is a republican meme and it’s gaining traction.
It colors the way Palin is heard by casual conservative listeners. Alinsky has nothing on the republican party. You Palin backers are pointing at the wacky left while the wily right is undermining your candidate.
True. The saving grace will be when our Sarah starts campaigning. Then the Strong Horse Rule kicks in. They will be elbowing each other to get a spot on the band wagon.
There is a bright side to all of this too, namely in what it reveals about the left. For one thing it tells us they are absolutely terrified of Sarah Palin (which begs the question, why?), and two, it tells us that they still don’t have a very accurate picture of what is going on in the country at large. Their messaging is consistently striking a dissonant chord, but they seem unable to stop themselves. That means that they are not using accurate metrics in gauging the public mood.
For instance their latest attempts to isolate and destroy Sarah last week fell utterly flat. But what on Earth gave Dems and their MSM lackeys the idea that the average citizen would buy that Sarah was to blame for the Tucson shootings? Answer: because ideologues view the world through a glass darkly. They cannot see the world as it is because all input is eventually distorted by their beliefs, which are fixed and immutable. This is our biggest single advantage in a cultural war against an ideological enemy. And it is why, overall we have been one step ahead of them since the summer of 2009, even though they still retain the balance of actual power. And it is also why we will trounce them utterly in 2012. (Though we must not become complacent, rather we must prepare for maximum effort).
Furthermore, this is a permanent advantage for us (though not necessarily a decisive one), since ideologues are not, and never will be capable of thinking outside of their ideological boxes. The minute a lefty starts to question his/her cherished lefty beliefs, he/she is no longer a lefty. That is why the truly dangerous ones are the ones like Obama, who can convincingly mimic a non-ideologue for political purposes. These are capable of shifting tactics, though usually they will tip their hand if you watch closely enough.
Lefties used the Tucson massacre to launch a three pronged propaganda attack against us, but it failed miserably because by and large the citizenry is now tuned to their deceptive methodology. Every time they pull something like that now, it confirms the suspicions of another handful of citizens that the Dems+MSM are indeed conspiring to undermine Liberty. My only hope is that they keep going strong. The more they twist and spin, the more transparent they become. In that one sense them, time is on our side.
The one’s they attack most loudly are the one’s they fear the most. (Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, Hugh Hewitt, Dennis Prager etc. Etc.) And the one’s they fear the most are the one’s who are closest to the truth. Otherwise they wouldn’t fear them. The things they react to the most strongly, and deny or ridicule the most vehemently, are their greatest vulnerabilities. Whatever they object to, pay closest attention to. Whatever they deny is true. They will only compromise when they believe it is a net gain. If they concede something, it is because they do not value it. When they show you their right hands, you will not see their left hands. When you see their left hands, their right hands will be hidden…
They especially fear Sarah because more than any other major political figure on the Right, Sarah has drawn a line in the sand. She seems to understand in her bones that the Tea Party is not about compromising with someone who is basically patriotic but who just has different views, it is about politically annihilating an ideological enemy who is attempting to subvert democracy and impose government control on the economy. It is about permanently eradicating an enemy who is using the media and academia to foment class warfare, and to skew government towards a global, statist, oligarchic model. An enemy who is putting our safety at risk in an attempt to alter national demographics in their favor. They fear her because they sense that were she to gain executive power, Sarah would expose their agenda in all its detail to the American people. She will give the names and the dates, and list the transaction numbers and the dollar figures. What they fear most is the light of day. That is why they spew toxic clouds of distortions and lies, it allows them to hide their agenda.
Bottom line is this: the more they squawk, the more they reveal.
Sarah Palin in 2012.
Well said. Sun Tzu advised us to know our enemy. Most of them can’t comprehend either Palin or the Tea Party. They are still in a daze over November 2. That gives us the advantage. They also underestimate the power of virtue, having discarded it in their ignorance.
In the Triumvirate of thought that makes up liberal thinking on the Left in America, namely delusion, success as immoral and cultural relativism, we are firmly in the realm of the first – delusion.
On the political Left, things that are inconvenient such as any consideration of contextual evidence of proportional behaviors on both the Right and the Left as in this article, are simply ignored and so what amounts to disinformation is broadcast wholesale by people who have absolutely no concept of fair play or perspective and frankly don’t seem to care about such concepts.
It doesn’t matter if it’s Palestinian Arabs whose participation in a civil war in the British Mandate of Palestine in 1947-8 is simply written out of their talking points, Hurricane Katrina where statistics of death by race were simply assumed by faith in advance to reflect endemic racism in America and which were false, or Democratic political maps targeting their opponents complete with crosshairs and targets. If liberals don’t like it and it conflicts with their faith-based rather than empirical views of the world it never happened.
It doesn’t even matter if Palin’s map was seen by Loughner as Palin is assumed to have implicitly approved of political assassination and so it is her INTENT to harm that is the real issue. In this sense the Orwellian takes center stage as the murderous intent of the rockets that ineffectually fly out of Gaza are stripped of meaning because of the inaccuracy of those rockets while that exact same missing murderous intent is attached to a political map because of its effectiveness in causing an assassination it never caused. In speaking about liberal thought, let me make up an Orwellian term because we are talking about people who are “unsane”. Political maps and rockets trade spaces in a reality where cause and effect, intent and effectiveness are juggled into a realm of madness.
Last Spring a young white activist was raped in Haiti according to her remarkable blog: http://blogs.alternet.org/speakeasy/2010/04/23/we-are-not-your-weapons-we-are-women/
Rather than a simple crime of rape she characterized the crime as her “becoming a receptacle for a Black man’s rage at the white world”, thereby exhibiting classic liberalism which posits that criminal acts and lack of achievement are the fault of mostly faceless but not colorless people who have nothing to do with such affairs. In the case of Loughner the Left has found a face and this is why Palin is guilty as charged in the eyes of the Left.
You cannot win with liberals – reality means nothing and their belief system means everything. Liberalism has all the hallmarks of a religion as it is based on faith and evidences of that faith held up in triumph to have the same weight as a splinter from the true cross.
you can add the women who worked for NGO’s in GAZA- they were prevented from reporting or prosecuting RAPISTS who people they were there trying to help
and youcan be damn sure you will find no MSM reporters interested or published on the topic
As I recall, Christianne Ammanpour said in 2000 that journalists were negligent in not exposing Bush to the American people. It would appear that they have determined not to let that happen again.
When you catch a man with his hand in the cookie jar, he will hate you.
Palin exposes the Left. Their hands are in the cookie jar, and all can see it through Palin.
All the things that the Left is supposed to champion are lies. Strong, independent women, caring for blacks, etc… all lies. Palin is the walking, talking example of what they profess to promote and admire… and she is a Conservative! Aaaarrrrggghhh!
The first woman VP? A Conservative? Noooooooo! That would steal their power. Women might defect from being big supporters of the Democratic Party. She must be stopped, destroyed.
Of course, the more they attack her, the more they expose themselves, the really rotten core of themselves. Palin’s existence, and the Left’s own vile nature, will be the end of NeoLiberalism/Progressivism. The more they attack her, the more sympathetic and powerful she becomes. They HATE her, like no one ever before, they HATE her.
And she is their doom.
Remember the wisdom of the Left: Guns don’t kill people; METAPHORS kill people!
The Left is very much like arabs who say Israel targets civilians, babies and all with a lust for blood which Israel does not.
The Left accuses Palin and the Right of what the Left continually does, not what Palin and the Right does.
Palin’s approval ratings keep dropping in poll after poll and she TRAILS behind Yuckabee — err Huckabee in todays ABC poll. At 19% she leads the GOP pack among LOWER income & LESS-educated Repubs. Oh yeah that’s gonna snatch the 2012 election from Obama. I have said from DAY ONE that Palin is a celebrity with little political credibility. I am a Republican and I don’t need nor want to see another celebrity with little political credibility in the WH from EITHER party. Obama was bad enough! All Palin does is repeat the words ” commonsense conservative values” every time she criticizes Obama – but she has YET to articulate what she will actually do to increase jobs, protect people from insurance companies that WON”T insure them for ANY reason they chose, identify what programs she will cut to bring down the deficient while not raising taxes, how she will handle the war in Afghanistan and the situation with Iran, Pakistan, and China and North Korea, and she has yet to be able to answer questions in a press conference style without looking like an idiot. She mocks Obama’s use of teleprompter but Palin’s “teleprompter” is Facebook – where a team of writers use their intellect and Palin’s name and Face on well crafted commentaries. Instead of taking the time to join an intellectual conservative think tank in DC, instead of taking the time to read and learn about Supreme Court decisions, about international relations, to put forth intelligent well research well thought out opinions of HER OWN, she has chosen the celebrity spotlight – books, tv series, the money that comes with all that. She has done NOTHING to deserve the Presidency which makes her NO different than Obama.
But, DG, Barry IS President, so being not unlike him doesn’t disqualify her from becoming one too, in America these days. Got it?
Yawn.
Ms. Behar is rattling her cage. Time for her thorazine.
See also James Taranto’s attempt to explain Palin Derangement, the unhinged hatred of her. He argues, “For many liberal women, Palin threatens their sexual identity, which is bound up with their politics in a way that it is not for any other group….” It seems that most progressive women are not really pro-choice; they are pro-abortion. See http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704590704576091962633206964.html
VDH,
Loved your commentary except for the last paragraph. Reagan ran for president when he was needed, and his election in 1980 proved it. Unfortunately, I don’t think we can wait that long for Sarah to run. The US needs her now!
What you folks miss about Reagan and Palin is that the left has learned from Reagan. The Left wanted to run Carter against Reagan. The vitriol did not start until Reagan was elected and the Left could not stop the second term. They will try to stop Palin before she has a chance. Very smart tactics by the Left.
Thank you for another insightful observation.
The emergence of Sarah Palin has made it so clear to me whose (so called “conservative”) opinion I can trust. Like when Obama said about the Cambridge police “acted stupidly,” many of so called conservatives have really shown their true color when they started criticizing her that she was dumb, not sophisticated whatever ignoring what she was saying, while prasing Obama for his speech and style (I still don’t see), blind to his no substance.
Anyway, your opinions are rather fair-minded (much more than Fox News), rational, and down-to-earth while super intelligent. Keep on coming, Mr. Hanson!
I’m ready to fight in this war for the ONE person with the cajones to take it to “the establishment”. I have only minimally been involved in campaigns, and was a participant in the Tea Party Movement, but I have resolved to get together with other Sarah supporters in my area, and spend entire weekends in Iowa, knocking on doors, and/or leaflet dropping. Here’s the best part: I am not alone. There are THOUSANDS, maybe MILLIONS of us, ready to fight for Sarah 2012 once she announces.
We are just regular people, with our own families and our own situations, but we see the direction in which the politicians in “the establishment” have taken us, and we’re saying “NO MORE!”. We’re going to fight with our new tool — the internet –and use it to get together and make our voices known in the early primary states. Those in the northeast can do the same in New Hampshire, and those in the southeast can do the same in South Carolina. If Sarah Palin takes 2 of 3 of these states, and a large portion of the Super Tuesday states, SHE’LL HAVE THE NOMINATION SOWN UP BEFORE “THE ESTABLISHMENT” HAS TIME TO MOUNT A SIGNIFICANT CAMPAIGN FOR ANYONE ELSE.
As Glenn Beck said in 2009 “We Surround Them”. They may have the money and the pundits, and the media, BUT WE HAVE THE VOTES!
Mom in Wisconsin
I find it appalling, that the Gingrich, Romney, Christie, Bushes…etc are all arrogantly dismiss Sarah so as not to take her serious enough to defend her, or stand up for her. So far, she is alone, with her family.
There is much envy not only by her opponents, but also those so-called ‘conservatives, and republicans’ who claim so ‘hoi-poloi’!
They underestimate her on their own risk. I am not sure where the rumor that she could not win the presidency actually come from? Obama had a fraction of her intelligence, and experience when he won, although even that is doubtful.
Let’s be honest, the no-abortion of her Down-Syndrome-Baby is the elephant in the room, be it the libs or the republicans, and that is a shame never forgiven by me.
The highty mighty putting themselfs up as judge of Sarah, which also incl all conservatives, is just unforgivable.
Several have observed that the other potential candidates haven’t exactly flown to Sarah’s defense. I suspect some, if not all, have been silently happy to see her attacked and marginalized, since she is a threat to them as well as Obama. Sad, but probably true.
The Left and their lap dog media hate Palin because she threatens their urban legend that conservatives are racists and anti-Feminists. They want to keep their firm grip on the minority vote and don’t want their bribes (with our tax money) to be the explanation for it. Look out Lt. Allen West. You’ll be next.
Thank you Dr. VDH: Great column.
Palin has nothing to offer the national dialogue; her speeches are just coded talking points mixed in with words picked up at random from a thesaurus.
Sarah Palin is at best a self-promoting ignoramus, and at worst a shameless media troll who will abuse any platform to deliver dog whistle encouragement to a far-right base.
Her reality show is pathetically unstatesmenlike, and at the same time it represents the pinnacle of her potential.
Her transparent desperation to become a celebrity so completely eclipsed her interest in public service so long ago that for a journalist there would be more integrity in reporting on one of the lesser Kardashian’s butt implants.
With special thanks to Colbert.
We like her anyway, Nate, despite her countless faults.
You’re a talking point. At the very least go to her facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/sarahpalin?v=wall) or to the Conservatives4Palin.com site (http://conservatives4palin.com/)& get informed by reading her extensive policy recommendations & about her self-made accomplishments…she rode in on no ones coattails & can swat a smug comic Colbert w/ the wink of her eye.
I feel your pain. It must be excruciating that with all the deficiencies in Sarah Palin’s character, she is still miles ahead of your precious Cabrini Green messiah in both character and accomplishment, and STILL remains miles more qualified for the office. Deny it to save face if you must, but the mouth-foaming hyperbole that is so characteristic of your rant and the Left’s paroxysms in general demonstrates that even you know this to be true.
What they are trying to do to Sarah Palin is “Bork” her!
Essential vdh
Palin is a perfect candidate for president in this time of our need to revivify American values as debated by the founding fathers and Americans in the federalist papers. She is tough, her mind is quicker than her opponents. Her value structure is who she is and how she presents herself. I believe the word integrity comes to mind. Perfect, just perfect. It always amazes me that America can produce such as a Sara Palin when we need her the most.
Todd Palin is also a perfect match for America as a Husband for the President of the United States. He is a keystone personality that reaches back to those who actually built America. That’s also why Sara Palin understands what we need, she understands who her Husband is and how he thinks and what he needs, what their family needs, not charity or a free lunch but just the opportunity to succeed and thrive as they have done in Alaska.
Sara is easy to understand—she is a fighter and competitor, she will not leave the field when it involves fighting for what she knows her family needs and what America needs. Win lose or draw she will compete and stake out her ground and defend her position. She knows America has to win, the real America not the socialist left wing collective chimera that now claims to be the better compassionate America—a decoy that is a perfumed scorpion represented by the BHO’s who are essentially products, the parasitic end result of the left wing, socialist, communist progressive infiltration that has been going on in America for the last 80 years or more.
I believe there are to many generations away from real Americans with the current crop of both Democrats and Republicans. The Palins are the new blood and values America needs now at this “tipping point” in our history. We will either sustain America or we will destroy America within the next few years. Make up your mind—what side do you want to be on? Sara Palin offers a clear and true choice.
The most ironic point of this War against Palin was this. They were the ones that created the monster. Sarah Palin was content to return and continue being Governor of Alaska in peace. But no, the MSM and the Left continued to attack her using Alaska’s laws against her with the desired goal of financially and politically ruining her with the intent of destroying a potential threat to Obama’s Presidency and preserving the Left’s victory and narrative as well as to serve as a warning to all conservatives that they will destroy anybody who stood in their way.
One problem, Palin did not read the script and decided to do it her own way. She resigned her position or quit if you like and became a private citizen. It was stroke of genius because the Left and the MSM found themselves facing Sarah on equal terms with Palin scoring points not only against the Administration, but also against the media and the Left using Facebook as a medium. Sarah made them look like a fool and for a supposedly uneducated and stupid simpleton, they already let her inside their mind to haunt and to taunt them.
Sarah Palin will run on her own terms either for next year or 2016 or 2020 or 2024 or she may decide to distract the Left and the MSM and play kingmaker at their expense.
Great point, Will.
Sarah L. Palin La Sharp Nail. Watch out, lefties while any of you are still left!
Sarah L. Palin “” La Sharp Nail. Watch out, lefties while any of you are still left!
Grrrrr! Cannot get a less-than double-equals greater-than (logical equivalency) onto the comment, perl is stripping
them out! Baby Grizzly wanna cry!!:(
But a hijab is rather useful on a bad hair day, give it that.
Gail Collins similarly whacks retiring Senator Lieberman with back-handed ‘compliments’ in the NY Times here:

tom
I can never understand why NYT, and MSNBC are so scared of Palin. What is it about this lady that scares the hell of left? The way left is portraying Palin, it seems they should not be afraid of her at all, but they are and in a great way. The only thing comes to mind is that left doesn’t like strong will women, only the politically correct ones who accept any slogan with nothing to know about it. The same goes with talk radio people. The fact is the darling of the left like Katie Couric, Keith and similar people, can’t say 2 words on their own without reading it from the screen. However, Rush can talk 2 hours about what he believes without looking at any paper or screen. So actually, what left wants is a bunch of dummies to follow slogan (like Masses for Marxists), and that is why they are so scare of those who can speak their minds.
There are those who say Sarah Palin erred in using the term “blood libel” to describe the assault on the left. In a sense they are right. It is an apt choice of words. It captures the essence of the attacks of the left: fictitious and completely scurrilous attacks on her and other conservatives. It was the same when it was used by Jews in the middle ages. It was understood by the thoughtful and didn’t help the Jewish people of Europe. The pogroms continued. The Holocaust still happened and the left still screams blood libels about Israel.
In pugilistic terms (If the new civility permits that) the left lowered their guard and Sarah delivered a nasty right hook to the temple.
When facing a group of attackers there are two possibilities when you land a good shot against one of them. One, they will back off or two, they will recognize that they outnumber their victim ten to one and they hold all the clubs and knives and simply be outraged that one of their own was injured.
When the term “blood libel” was used by the Jews of Europe it was a good shot but it didn’t stop the mob. Few came to the defense of the Jews. The same holds for Sarah. There are those who say that she should have remained quiet, stoically taken her beating, because they fear the wrath of the mob.
Her response was effective in that it pointed out the mindless brutality of the mob. It was ineffective in that it seems to have caused people to turn from her. What do I think she should do? To use another of those uncivil metaphors, She should take the reins in her teeth, a Navy Colt in each hand and ride straight at them.
In case you folks haven’t noticed Sarah’s ratings are going down faster than a fat republican’s side of a seesaw. Chances are even better her 15 minutes of fame are over.
Wishful thinking on your part Bill. Sarah Palin will be here influencing public policy for the next generation while you continue to rant in vain that the “polls” show that her popularity has waned.
With all due respect you are an ignorant fool and should grow up and learn that these “polls” by liberal organizations, such as CNN and NY Times, are irrelevant. If Ronald Reagan had relied on the polls conducted my the MSM he would have remained in California.
Silver is down now, too. The fundamentals for both could not be better. Moonshots ahead, so be patient, Bill. Your worst nightmare is on it’s way: President Palin. Stay long Sarah and Tea Party on, boys and girls.
You worthless Liberal’s should wake up if you love this Great Country as much as Sarah does.
Speaking of Sarah Palin’s beauty (see previous posts), have you ever noticed how ugly and mad liberal women look? I can spot one a mile away. Usually they have more body hair than their spouses/boyfriends, wear glasses so they can look intellectual, have stringy hair with no style to it at all. And when they talk, they are so full of rage that they can’t put together a coherent sentence. They just scream and prattle on and on about hating Palin, blah blah blah. And they always have that sly little smile when a conservative is talking. Kinda like a snake getting ready to strike their prey. Just sayin’.
Susan – Kudos on a spot on observation. Look at Kathy Griffin, Rosie O’Donnell, Hillary Rodham, and Joan Rivers, just to name a few of the hate-filled, ignorant, venomous, left-wing nut creeps. That inner bile is reflected in their faces when they unleash their moronic attacks on conservatives, especially conservative women – the bane of their very existence! Another one that I forgot to mention is David Letterman…(Ha! wanted to make sure you read my reply…).
We know the women you mean. Yet, there are countless liberal women who are both attractive, nice, and fairly intelligent.. I know plenty who consider themselves very spiritual while they demand the right to snuff out out inconvenient little heart beats. They have invested years in their liberal delusions, so Sarah annoys them to no end. Yet I think she may gradually jar some of them out of their ignorance.
Nate: “Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.”
Got some EVIDENCE for your charges, son, or are you jes flappin’ yer gums?
No analysis is warranted for the venom the Dems throw at Palin. Their hate is baseless, causeless hate, almost like anti-Semitism, where they will devise any pretext to destroy her. Destroying one’s reputation is beyond murder. The Libs have no shame, no morals & no mirrors.
Then the blatant arrogance of the group-think Dems & lamestream media thinking they can decide who the Conservatives should nominate. Earth to MSNBC, Palin will damn well run for President if the grass-root & independent critical thinkers elect her…period.
Outstanding use of facts to support the crazed main stream media’s attacks on Palin. Thank you so much for putting it is such a witty format. Palin is the only one who has proven her ability to govern. I shock my friends when I tell them she appeared on Charley Rose as an expert on energy – before she was Alinsky-ed. I wait for Roger Simon – the bad one – to apologize for his lack of journalistic integrity and skill in his deplorable rhetorical comments.
Sarah has earned our support. She IS taking point on an ideologic war that we must not continue to lose. It’s not just ideological. By their actions the left has proved its willingness to be evil. Making unrelenting false accusations is pure evil. Sarah, stands her ground.
Anyone thinking she’s not presidential enough has got to get over it. If we let her stand alone and not come to her defense loud and clear every day until she is sworn in… that shame should never leave us.
It’s time to man up. She has weaknesses as we all do, but they are not central. The left will circle the wagons for the most vile members of their ideology. We need to put doubts aside and realize what’s at stake. As Obama told his brown shirts, we need to be in their face on every front to counter their false narrative. We’ve got the time to turn the tide if we come to a decision now.
This is war. With no apologies my crosshairs are on the RINOs and weaklings that allowed a college professor with a hidden background into the oval office. It is way past time to man up.
Our republic stands only as long as the people do. I absolutely hate the filthy pack of liars that can destroy a decent American with their unrelenting hypocritical spew. Shame on any of you if you can’t see that.
I take pleasure in, cause I discovered just what I was looking for. You’ve ended my four day long hunt! God Bless you man. Have a great day. Bye
