The Scandal of Our Age
Like Nothing Before
In the Watergate scandal, no one died, at least that we know of. Richard Nixon tried systematically to subvert institutions. Yet most of his unconstitutional efforts were domestic in nature — and an adversarial press soon went to war against his abuses and won, as Congress held impeachment hearings.
As far as national security went, Nixon’s crimes were in part culpable for destroying the political consensus that he had won in 1972, at a critical time when the Vietnam War to save the south was all but over, and had been acknowledged as such at the Paris Peace Talks. But Watergate and the destruction of Nixon’s foreign policy spurred congressional cutbacks of aid to South Vietnam and eroded all support for the administration’s promised efforts to ensure that North Vietnam kept to its treaty obligations.
Iran-Contra was as serious because there was a veritable war inside the Reagan administration over helping insurgents with covert cash that had in part been obtained by, despite denials, selling arms to enemy Iran to free hostages — all against U.S. laws and therefore off the radar. The Reagan administration was left looking weak, hypocritical, incompetent, and amoral — and never quite recovered. Yet even here the media soon covered the story in detail, and their disclosures led to several resignations and full congressional hearings.
Quite Different
What I call “Securitygate” — the release of the most intricate details about the cyber war against Iran, the revelations about a Yemeni double-agent, disclosures about covert operations in and against Pakistan, intimate details about the Osama bin Laden raid and the trove of information taken from his compound, and the Predator drone assassination list and the president’s methodology in selecting targets — is far more serious than either prior scandal. David Sanger and others claim that all this was sort of in the public domain anyway; well, “sort of” covers a lot of ground. We sort of knew about the cyber war against Iran, but not to the detail that Sanger provides and not through the direct agency of the Obama administration itself.
Here is the crux of the scandal: Obama is formulating a new policy of avoiding overt unpopular engagements, while waging an unprecedented covert war across the world. He’s afraid that the American people do not fully appreciate these once-secret efforts and might in 2012 look only at his mishaps in Afghanistan or his public confusion over Islamic terror. Ergo, feed information to a Sanger or Ignatius so that they can skillfully inform us, albeit with a bit of dramatic “shock” and “surprise,” just how tough, brutal, and deadly Barack Obama really is.
Yet these disclosures will endanger our national security, especially in the case of a soon-to-be-nuclear Iran. They will probably get people killed or tortured, and they will weaken America’s ability for years to work covertly with allies. Our state-to-state relations will be altered, and perhaps even the techniques and technology of our cyber and special operations wars dispersed into the wrong hands. There is nothing in the recent “exclusive” writings of David Sanger or David Ignatius that was necessary for the American people to know at this stage, unless one thinks that we had a right to the full story of the Doolittle Raid in 1942, or that Americans by July 1944 needed an insider account of the date and planning of D-Day, or that we should have been apprised about what was really going on in New Mexico in 1944.
Here is why Securitygate is a national outrage and goes to the heart of a free and civil society.
National Security
Iran probably knew of U.S. covert involvement against its nuclear facilities, but now it knows that that the entire world also knows. There is no more plausible deniability on our part. The information about the nature of the cyber war is so detailed, the partnership with the Israelis rendered so complex, and the disclosures about technology and technique so explicit, that the Iranians will not only better defend themselves, but use these details to encourage and support even more terror against the United States. How ironic that Obama once called Guantanamo al-Qaeda’s “chief recruiting tool” only to keep it open, and instead give them a real recruiting tool in the disclosure of the inner workings of the war on terror.
Pakistan is a veritable enemy and Iran an explicit one. But now both will recite endlessly David Sanger’s catalog of our efforts to subvert them, and claim any new anti-American efforts on their part were simply justified tit-for-tat. Why would the Gulf states help us, when they come off as brutal supporters of the old doomed dictatorships? Europe and our allies no doubt knew all about predators and the cyber war, but their publics did not. Expect even more anti-Americanism, as our enemies decry targeted assassinations and efforts at subverting governments.
George W. Bush turned off the world by waterboarding three known and confessed terrorists — with help from the American Left who publicized that fact hourly for eight years. Barack Obama, we now read, has not only personally selected several hundred suspected terrorists for airborne execution, but alternates between reading their terrorist biographies and theology as he picks who lives and who dies. I am sure Catholic theologians appreciate the fact that St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Augustine bulked up the American president’s fortitude when he chose to press the kill button over Waziristan. Crude presidents watch Patton or wear flight suits under “Mission Accomplished” banners; sophisticated metrosexual wartime Presidents read theology. I am surprised only that we did not hear from leaks that Obama had read these didactic texts in the original Latin.
Is the world to be outraged that Russia sends war material to Syria or Iran arms to Hezbollah — when it matter-of-factly now reads that almost all communications inside Pakistan are intercepted? Do we need to know that the U.S. warped medical vaccination programs to gain information about bin Laden — right out of a scene from the film Man on Fire? I bet the Gates Foundation and other American philanthropic organizations will appreciate the doubt that will now be cast on their own vaccination efforts. In the world war of ideas, we accuse Iran of wanting to wipe out Israel and they now will accuse us of resorting even to manipulating vaccination programs for the sick and poor for our own national security. Do we really need to know — or rather does the world need to know — that we sabotaged video cameras in Pakistan? Wait — I err in the use of the past tense: we are still sabotaging video and photographic equipment in Pakistan.
We live in dangerous times, with a war in Afghanistan, a soon-to-be-nuclear Iran, a duplicitous nuclear Pakistan, an estranged nuclear ally Israel, an Arab Spring gone haywire, a failed reset with Russia, and almost all of the above conniving over Syria. The work of National Security Advisor Tom Donilon, New York Times reporter David Sanger, and all their assorted subordinate reporters and Obama administration officials may well help to set off a conflagration unlike any in our time.
The Timing and Theme
Why are we suddenly learning in spring of 2012 of all sorts of classified information about the administration’s war on terror? Why not in 2009? Why is all the disclosed information in the press predictably designed to offer another side of Barack Obama in an election year? The president turns out not to be the familiar senator or presidential candidate Obama, who once demanded that Guantanamo be shut down, who mocked renditions and tribunals, who opposed preventative detentions, who wanted to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in a civilian court, and whose team characterized the Major Hasan murders as workplace violence and the Mutallab plot as “allegedly” or came up with the laughable euphemisms “overseas contingency operations” and “man-caused disasters.”
In other words, all the prior public knowledge of the Obama administration’s conduct of the war on terror had helped contribute to real public worries about its national security reliability. In contrast, all the recent disclosures paint a much different picture of the real “Obama Doctrine” — a Nobel Peace Prize laureate reading his St. Thomas Aquinas as he struggles with blowing up bad guys from the air, takes out bin Laden, unleashes a cyber war against Iran, or sends his agents into Yemen. A Hollywood scriptwriter could have done Obama the “paradox” no better: ruthlessly sensitive, decisively reflective, and tragically underappreciated.
The decision to disclose a multifaceted covert war on terror and ensure the continuance of the administration Barack Obama is supposedly far more important to our long-term national security than is any short-term damage that follows these disclosures.
The Role of the Press
We all know how the deplorable practice of “leaking” works. But in truth, these were not quite leaks: information was not “leaked” by rogue insiders or hostile outsiders, but rather given freely to the press by administration officials.
That fact alone makes Securitygate different from any other past scandal over publicized classified documents or insider accounts of covert operations — or even Bob Woodward’s mythography and insider psychodramas, where he only imagines what presidents and secretary of states are “really” thinking silently to themselves.
Usually liberal reporters nurture and stroke unnamed sources and would-be whistle-blowers who claim worry about an administration’s stealthy and dangerous national security efforts. Sometimes they divide and conquer — warning reluctant sources that when the proverbial stuff hits the fan, their own silent narratives will be drowned out by the connivers who squawked. Message? If you can’t beat them, then beat them to the punch.
When the leaked story goes public, the administration in question goes bananas; after all, its most private protocols and operations are rendered worthless as they enter the public domain. Our Woodstein-like reporters in question predictably fancy themselves Edward R. Murrows, as if speaking truth to power. They earn praise from the New York-Washington, D.C., corridor, with all the accruing beneficia of strong book sales, career promotions, TV appearances, or often prizes for their “courage.” The leaker, if found out, often likewise is canonized, in Daniel Ellsberg fashion, as he usually beats the rap.
None of that was true of the released information about the bin Laden mission, subversion in Pakistan, the Yemeni double agent, the Predator drone protocols, and the cyber war against Iraq, or our covert war in Africa. The press were lapdogs, not bull terriers. The leakers were not misguided whistle-blowers, but careerist insiders. We don’t quite have an investigative press these days, but rather a Ministry of Truth put in charge of Barack Obama’s public relations: when the worldwide Left worries that Obama is too militaristic, we heard of deep engagement with Catholic theologians and a desire to go after former CIA agents, or more plans to close Guantanamo; when the Right is up in arms that Obama is not pursuing Islamic terrorists, then the drone tally, cyber war, and more details about Osama bin Laden suddenly are all over the news.
Complicity not skepticism is the theme of the work of a Sanger or Ignatius and their kindred reporters. Their aim is that we should be “surprised” about just how muscular is the Obama version of the war on terror — an appreciation that is especially timely in mid-2012, rather than, say, 2009 or 2010.
Doubt all that? The subtitle of David Sanger’s book – Surprising Use of American Power – says it all, does it not? “Surprising” is a rather mild adjective that one might not usually expect from a New York Times “investigative” reporter hell-bent on rushing into print leaked material about controversial, legally questionable, and covert U.S. operations. “Surprising” is the sort of loaded adjective that reminds us of the press’s other favored word – “unexpectedly” – when citing the latest dismal economic news.
Cui Bono?
But outrage was not the intent of Sanger, nor of any of the other “reporters” who have been given exclusive access to either Obama administration insiders or once sort of, now kind of, classified materials. When one reads David Ignatius on the covert bin Laden raid, here are the sort of inanities that pop out: “This desire to reattach al-Qaeda to the Muslim mainstream is evident in the documents I reviewed that were taken from bin Laden’s compound the night he was killed. … As Wednesday’s anniversary of bin Laden’s death approaches, I have been going back over my notes of these messages. I found some unpublished passages that show how bin Laden’s legacy is an ironic mix.” Or “The scheme is described in one of the documents taken from bin Laden’s compound by U.S. forces on May 2, the night he was killed. I was given an exclusive look at some of these remarkable documents by a senior administration official. They have been declassified and will be available soon to the public in their original Arabic texts and translations.”
How does one seriously claim an “exclusive look” at “remarkable documents” that have been “declassified” and “will be available soon.” (Note the tense gymnastics.) Either a document is in the public domain for all, or it is not. One does not have an “exclusive” look at otherwise common knowledge. This is incoherent: “A senior administration official” calls up a senior Washington Post reporter to provide him with an “exclusive” look at unclassified documents in the public domain. Why would a “senior” official have to remain unnamed when all he was doing was passing along unclassified information?
What Next?
What should we expect next from the administration rather pleased at these disclosures? More of “how dare you!” denials from Barack Obama who is “shocked” that we might possibly conclude that he runs the defense of the United States like a poorly managed Tony Rezko land deal.
Expect the New York Times and Washington Post stable to likewise be aghast at any hint they were massaged, and in vain to point to all sorts of nuanced little qualifiers in their stories that we missed, but that really do prove their own independence and “worry,” “skepticism,” and “concern” over some of the shocking things they wrote.
“Classified” is now a postmodern idea, as we see from Ignatius. I think the damage-control procedure will go like this: although we, the public, could not read what the New York Times and Washington Post people read, these “classified” sources were still not really classified. You see, the president decides from moment to moment what is legally classified, what not. When given to a reporter to ensure the public knows that an Achilles rather than a Paris is our commander in chief, the documents in a nanosecond became declassified. In other words, once these leaks go into print, then immediately postfacto all such information was declassified all along: stupid us, we just never asked to read it or talk with these folks who had.
If — a big if — and when either Congress or the media goes after the damage that was done to U.S. interests, expect that almost every subpoenaed source imaginable is now “classified” — as in “How dare you ask for classified information that might endanger the national security just to find out how and why we released ‘declassified’ information that did no harm at all.”
Reader, forget politics. Just digest the nature, theme, the timing, and the damage of these disclosures. Do that and most of you will conclude they are offenses to the security of the United States — or, in the words of Barack Obama on another matter, “unpatriotic.”

It does not surprise me that Zero would use any and all tools at his disposal to pump up his image regardless of the harm it might cause others. Doesn’t matter that partnerships in intelligence circles will have been damaged – he’s the typical liberal thinker – typical in the manner in which all liberals operate. No thought whatever is given to the consequences down the road from their actions – the ends justify the means. Zero’s values (or lack thereof) dictates the means and its all he knows – its ‘The Chicago Way”. Its a no-holds-barred fight to the end and he doesn’t mean to lose.
The Democratic Party has a sordid history that we should remember. It is based on the old saw that “Might Makes Right” as long as it is done in the name of “the People.” Or popular will. I found a juicy book that lays out their marching orders here: http://clarespark.com/2011/12/10/before-saul-alinsky-rules-for-democratic-politicians/. We would do better to follow the rule of law laid out in our Constitution by such as Alexander Hamilton, abolitionist and splendid example as self-made man.
“Here is the crux of the scandal: Obama is formulating a new policy of avoiding overt unpopular engagements, while waging an unprecedented covert war across the world.”
Clare:
If Obama is waging covert war across the world solo, is that not a “High Crime” qualifying as an impeachable offense under the constitution? Why do you suppose the Loyal Opposition Party remains silent about the results of the communist takeover of the United States back in 2008? Mitch McConnel, John Bohner Mitt Romney?
How does one go about saving one’s self from one’s self, do you know?
And then there is Fast and Furious too, the outcome of which, so far, has been at least one dead American and hundreds of dead Mexicans. One could almost get the impression that we have some kind of foreign plant in the White House, like in the old Outer Limits TV episode “The Hundred Days of the Dragon”. Nah, could never happen. A moron in the White House is hard enough to believe, isn’t it?
And then there is the minor problem of Obama not meeting the “natural born Citizen” requirement and the fraudulent crimes he has been committing in order to keep this fact from the American people. These Obama crimes makes Richard Nixon look saintly when compared to Barack Hussein Obama.
This administration is without question the most incompetent, corrupt and un-American in our nation’s history. Your analysis is exhaustive, complete and excellent as usual, Mr. Hanson, but I do not know whether I should laugh or cry. It would be darkly humorous if it was a Spielberg action flick, but it is real life (and death). I responded to Janine Turner’s piece yesterday where she implored us to not ‘despise’ our enemies….Ms. Turner, how is it possible for ANY person, of ANY political persuasion to not ‘despise’ these people? You may not realize this, Ms. Turner, but that was a rhetorical question; ANY person who loves (or even just cares a little bit about) our nation should utterly despise the current group of radicals and criminals that make up this administration.
Sunlight is the best disinfectant to clean out this sewer-swamp in Washington and its enablers and protectors in the media. Thank you VDH for being a Patriot and standing-up for what’s right.
These leaks benefit both Obama and Khamenei at the expense of the US and Israel. Obama benefits because he looks tough on national security. Khamenei benefits because he can claim that Iran is the aggrieved party here. The US loses because these revelations allow Iran to justify sending more EFPs to Iraq/Afghanistan.Israel loses because these leaks are the basis for an Obama/Khamenei nonagression pact that is to be signed if Obama wins re-election. In exchange for Obama keeping Israel from striking the Iranian nuclear facilities, Obama gets diplomatic relations with Iran (and acknowledges that the Middle East is Irans legitimite sphere of influence)-a reverse of the Monroe Doctrine
The leaks made obama look strong temporarily, but over the long run they make him look weak, an administration that endangers covert operations and sources because they cant keep their mouths shut. Typical obama thinking, short term political image gain, at the expense of long term US interests.
I don’t get it. The left hates our military so Dear Leader does not have to impress them with his miltary or FP bona fides. And if the great independents are SOOO easily fooled then they are not the brilliant voters they pretend to be but are just tools.
Either way these destructive leaks are more than just political. They are the next in a sequence of things DL and the progs are doing to destroy America.
Posterity will call us fools
There is an interesting book still available at times called “Social History of the Machine Gun”. The self-serving machinations of the (self) annointed are what led to World War One and the ineptness with which it was conducted until Pershing stepped in and saved Western Civilization.
Next President is going to inherit quite a few unseen time bombs ticking away.
Best we put our trust in God whilst keeping the powder very dry.
Right when you think you couldn’t dislike the president more…
What drives Obama is his inborn nature, which is similar to that of a Vampyroteuthis Infernalis, lit. “Vampire Squid from Hell”, ramming his blood funnel into every part of America to suck dry all remaining individual freedoms. His blood lust will not be satiated unless the United States Constitution is a withered corpse. If this throwback fascist monstrosity wins reelection this November the mask will come completely off and he will go into a rabid freedom killing frenzy.
Given the dire alternative, any conservative who does not vote for Romney will be an inexcusable traitor to his country … and to himself.
Agreed. The GOP needs to be cleaned out as well, but at least they still look at the world from an American perspective. The Dems see the world from a a true Leninist perspective – that of a global power elite who use totalitarian methods to enforce their collectivist ideology. Thus they see America as an alien, hostile entity to be broken and harnessed to their vision. Thus the Dems cannot be reformed, and must be destroyed as a party.
Hey, It’s good to be king – I decide whom to kill – I can declassify docs at my whim – I get to appoint incompetents as czars – don’t need no stupid federal budget.
++++
will we actually have an election in November?
Remember, remember, come this November
The festering heat he has brought
‘Tis no reason why his assault on Americans
Should ever be forgiven, or forgot
This tyrant most foul who lords over us
He who gives us the smack of his rod
Soon now we will rend him to bits
We will give him the Judgment of God!
If each man and woman does what they must
The overreaching tyrant will be turned into dust
Soon now our Lady of Justice will possess him in her breathtaking, hair raising bed
She will tingle his spine as she captures his heart and his head!
That’s the spirit!!
For those who do not know these are the revised lyrics from The Scarlet Pimpernel-Madam le Guillotine

Attribution is a right honorable thing, Bob.
Yes, we will have an election in the fall but nobody will be denied his vote and many will not be denied their votes many times.
The real question is, “Who will count the votes?” Don’t forget that Soros has invested at least a billion in electing “his” people to the office of Secretary of State in many our our States. They count the vote and certify elections. If you want to see how effective this can be look no farther than the “election” of Al Franken in Minnesota in 2010.
Excellent point!
The pansy Republicans haven’t a chance against the Machiavellian AND brass-knuckled Demorats. The preppie yuppies that run the Republicans at all levels can’t even win their own infighting.
We’re lost. Go Galt.
Pelaut makes an exellent point. The Republicans are largely impotent and spineless. If they feel incapable of doing anything through their offices then why aren’t they camped out on the whitehouse lawn en mass with a call for all other Republicans to join them ? Holder isnt right about much but he was on point using the word “coward” specific to the Republican congress. The Democrats run circles around the so called conservatives. Am sickened by the entire lot. Perhaps we need a Dr. VDH congressional caucus for those who demonstrate a spine in defense of the USA. -

This administration is in total reelection panic mode
and will kill to be reelected.
Pray that Mitt Romney will be protected.
Doc, you and I both know and understand that Obama, our Neo-Marxist, anti-capitalist, muslim lovin, Jew hatin, metrosexual commander in chief has many “axes to grind” especially “getting even with Whitey” if one really takes a “group dynamic” point of view. However, you should not forget about “dreams of my father” as a point where Sigmund Freud would like to begin asking serious questions.
Obama-Mao has been doing everything he can to kill off America as fast as he can…death by a 1000 cuts is his game plan.
I am amazes at how many of my fellow citizens refuse to even consider such an evil direction by someone they believed would help them with their personal guilt and shame realities.
Even the fat faced Hillary Clinton, who was so shamed and publicly humiliated by her husband–the louse Bill, choose to work for this “macdaddy” just to promote “women’s right” or something of that vein…
Malignant narcissists rule the roost in Washington, trained lawyers who are nothing more than sophists seeking power over others.
We need statesmen to return to our national government, patriots too. I don’t care what gender, what race, etc. such may come from or where they claim their roots…it’s the principles for which they stand, the beliefs they hold dearly that I wish to know of and about.
Barak Hussein Obama and his true believers are evil for our country. This is our cancer.
Indeed, our constitutional government only functions when everyone subscribes to the rules set forth in the Constitution.
By systematically ignoring or usurping or going around it, not just Obama but the entire national socialist party has proven their true intentions. The worst offender may be Obama but there are many enablers. I count Boehner right at or near the top.
One must always measure by the actions, not the words. And in both parties the actions have been abysmal; Failure after failure. Somehow, it has to be corrected and set to rights. This nation can endure the occasional idiot or fool in government but it cannot endure such activism as we have seen these past six years.
Many of us knew that someday, the hippies would wander their way into government in a way that would damage the nation. Well, here it is. Preaching their “tolerance” and “fairness” as loud as they did in 1966, only they fail to comprehend that it’s not 1966 anymore. They have held onto their anger and their agenda, still thinking and acting as though national socialism is the answer, ignoring that every nation that employs it is either failing or has failed. Such is the mind of utopiasts and utopianism.
But, nothing pleases me more than their frustration.
And your own?
How ironic that Obama once called Guantanamo al-Qaeda’s “chief recruiting tool” only to keep it open, and instead give them a real recruiting tool in the disclosure of the inner workings of the war on terror.
…To call is ironic is faculty-lounge dainty. How about treasonous?
The administration operates like a baby with a hammer. That their ineptitude is on display with every political scheme in their effort to win reelection would be hilarious, were the consequences of another term not so dire. And most frightening of all, of course, is the percentage of the public that will vote to reelect this small, corrupt person in spite of all of the red flags.
Ned, have you considered the possibility that the wrecking is on purpose?
Here is some good evidence that it is:
http://www.wnd.com/2012/06/obama-tied-to-architect-of-u-s-collapse/
If ‘bam is trying to bring America down, the fact that he managed to get elected and even has a chance of being re-elected says we are dealing with something much more dangerous than a baby with a hammer, don’t you agree?
“We live in dangerous times, with a war in Afghanistan, a soon-to-be-nuclear Iran, a duplicitous nuclear Pakistan, an estranged nuclear ally Israel, an Arab Spring gone haywire, a failed reset with Russia, and almost all of the above conniving over Syria. The work of National Security Advisor Tom Donilon, New York Times reporter David Sanger, and all their assorted subordinate reporters and Obama administration officials may well help to set off a conflagration unlike any in our time.”
And Obama thinks that his administration had a successful foreign policy? All Republicans have to do this fall is recite the above list of failures (especially concerning Israel) and it will become very clear that this administration was a disaster. And let’s not even talk about what will happen once Iran gets a nuclear bomb. We do live in dangerous times and this administration, with all its incompetence and naivete, has only made matters much, much worse.
The danger with Stuxnet and Flame programs are they can be isolated, modified, and released into US networks such as nuclear reactors, energy grids, transportation control centers, FAA, NYSE, and other key facilities. We have given terrorists the perfect weapon on a silver platter.
The Politics have never mattered, real world effects will be devastating when the same weapons are turned against those that created them. This is the Achilles heel of the west, we lean on technology. We lean so greatly a software virus such as used to attack Iran will destroy western Institutions and create mass panic and chaos.
Valerie Plame should get Honorable mention as leak with serious effects, including loss of CIA fronts to track uranium and terrorist cells.
Republican and Democrat alike, political leadership is becoming every sailor for themselves as the ship continues slowly sinking.
Valerie Plame had not been covert since Aldrich Ames gave up her name (along with many others) when he was caught spying against the U.S.
Richard Armitage ‘leaking’ her name (after her been previously mentioned in Who’s Who, and having a fluff piece done on her and her husband) did not cause much of a ‘loss.’
Sorry…didn’t finish my sub-point before I posted:
“…and having a fluff piece done on her and her husband in Vanity Fair prior to the alleged ‘leaking of her name.
Everything VDH says is true, but … the Clinton administration gave China the W88 secrets, thus making us vulnerable to MIRV rocket attacks from across the Pacific. Not much was made of that at the time, at least compared to all the hullaballoo about Iran-Contra, followed by the ruckus about GHW Bush’s adventures in a supermarket.
We have to find a workable compromise between doing nothing about serious security leaks and shooting the leakers, mainly because we all know Barack Obama is a major leaker and it’s unseemly to shoot your own prez. But somebody – several somebodies – should have gone to jail over the W88 “declassifications” and the current Sanger revelations.
Not to worry…”after my election I’ll have more flexibility…”
Apparently, ‘somebody’ has got O’s back, in that he’s so confident of victory. Look at the recent Minnesota Senate ‘election’ for an example of what to expect come November.
“Lookey!” Another hundred ballots conveniently in the back seat of my car, and every one of them for Al Franken!!!
Yep.
Then it’s War.
I recall when Slick Willy Clinton off handily had a cruse missile sent to kill Ben-Laden, before the effectiveness of the strike was determined, he had his professional lier out front telling the world how it was accomplished. One of the details was that the CIA was tracking his cell phone!
It would seem that treason is in the Progressives’ DNA!
It’s really no surprise that The One should act this way. To Him, all that has ever mattered is… Him.
Obama isn’t just a narcissist. He is a full-blown solipsist, i.e. someone who believes that he, and only he, truly exists, and that everything else is only a construct in His mind.
As such, the harm done to the United States and her allies by His antics is immaterial. Because to Him, they aren’t “really real”. Since it is by definition impossible to destroy that which does not exist, He can convince Himself that what he does for His (self-perceived) benefit has no consequences.
As to how this squares with His anti-Westernism, and determination to “remake the world”, keep in mind that the Eastern philosophies He seems to prefer see the world as just such an arbitrary construct. Meaning, that it can, and should, be reshapable by an act of will on the part of the “enlightened”.
And He is absolutely certain that He is the most enlightened entity in the Universe.

Exactly right. Obama lives in a virtual world of his own authorship. He does not and cannot acknowledge that an objective real world exists; that other people exist; he has no capacity to relate to any thing or anyone in this Outside World.
If he feels he cannot control this Outside World and its people, ie, by controlling them within that Virtual World in which he lives – then, for him, that world and those people simply disappear.
He has no principles, no morals, no shared sense of humanity with others. For him, all that exists is His Virtual World – and he will destroy anything and anyone that tries to remove his control over that world.
Someone as pathological as Obama could remain, within reason, as a local community organizer. Put him into a wider realm, where it is more difficult to control events and people – and Obama becomes deranged and in despearate need to control, to manufacture his image, to insist on subservience and adulation, and – in full control of others. He rules by executive fiat; he ignores Congress, ignores the law, ignores the Constitution.
In the real world every national intelligence service has Obama’s profile. If readers here understand his clinical narcissism, what do you suppose his file looks like from the viewpoint of experts? One of Reagan’s strenghs was that he believed what he said. The Soviets took him at face value and feared him for his convictions. How do you handle a leader with a profile that reads “random, cynical, self-deluded, detatched, and despotic?” I suppose you fear him for his unpredictibility. As should we all.
I’ve often felt that true ideologues (anyone who consistently adheres to party doctrine no matter what the empirical evidence suggests), are also, by definition, pathological.
We need to teach our kids how to recognize the warning signs.
I guess it depends in part on the ideology. Is someone pathological for believing in personal liberty based on limited government? Is fiscal sobriety somehow ideological? What we need to do is educate our children to discriminate on the basis of character.
That can be empircally shown to produce widespread prosperity and innovation. Controlled economies have been shown over and over to produce stagnation, poverty, oppression and in extreme cases, mass murder of astronomical proportions. Yet these poor Dems cling to their demented visions. They are unable to evolve beyond them or adapt to a world of constant flux. To me that is pathological, in that it locks them into ever narrowing inward and downward spirals. They do not possess one of the key attributes of humanity: the ability to imagine new things (and thus, in my opinion, are not fully human).
Gylippus;
What they possess is a lust for power over others that transcends reason, logic, and even real-world experience.
The problem with such people is that even when they attain absolute power, they are insecure. They believe that anyone and everyone else is plotting to usurp them, even when they have made it impossible. (Case in point; Stalin’s purges.)
And even if they can be convinced of their safety, they become bored. They need to do something to remind themselves, and everyone else, exactly who’s running the show.
Also many such fall into the category of “adrenalin junkies”, who have a constant need for “peak experiences” to get their hearts beating. They need the feeling of power to get what amounts to a high. And the more they are permitted to do, the more jaded they become, which means they can’t get the same thrill from the same old acts of power. The Monkees said it best, in 1968;
It seems like kicks just keep getting harder to find,
All your kicks ain’t bringing you peace of mind,
Before you find out it’s too late,
You’d better get straight,
The result is that more and more explicit, and often violent, “acts of power” are needed to keep them from feeling like “The Thrill is Gone”, like B.B. King said. (NB; Yes, I know it was written by Roy Hawkins and Rick Darnell in 1951.)
And when those who have this attitude toward power get that feeling, they tend to start acting like some of the later Roman Emperors, notably the idiot trifecta of Tiberias, Caligula, and Nero.
That’s when the massacres begin.

I won’t argue that there is a general truth somewhere in your generalization, but what you apparently won’t do is frame it in a context of a world with huge populations, and easy communication and transportation between billions, where virtually everywhere is becoming more SOCIAL and government-affected. That is the Democrats’ truth. You dream of a country of 300+ million Americans going back to exactly what period in our history? Anywhere post New Deal, post Woodrow Wilson, post Lincoln, each of which or whom oversaw massive expansion of government.
I can understand a mantra of less government rather than more, but the surge of history is moving toward MORE, so it is a question of where you want to make your stand. The river is continually flowing toward more government. I’m not sure whether you want to build a dam or blow up the Hoover dam.
Good summary Eon, thanks. Do you think you would be able to make a list of the top 5 or 10 telltales – how to identify such creatures? Dogmatic thought is one, casual lying another – but there must be others. Many are drawn to power but not all abuse it in this way. Churchill was driven to lead Britain because he believed in its greatness and wanted to warn it. This was true of Reagan also. They wanted power and fought hard and long to get it, but they seem to have been driven by the highest and most selfless motives.
I could tell Obama was a fraud right from the start. For me it was the constant repetation of vague, catch-all feel-good words, all oriented around the idea that the state could somehow provide happiness that gave it away. I could tell he didn’t want me to think, just joyously allow myself to get caught up in the collective euphoria. And the way the media fell in lockstep behind him confirmed for me that we were dealing with a kind of multi-level conspiracy. An attempt to subvert the democratic process through induced mass hallycination. I guess the lesson there is be wary of those who keep repeating what you want to hear. The one’s who give you the bad news and the hard choices you’d rather avoid are probably more honest. Plus when the media and political figures start closely echoing and reinforcing each other, you are probably dealing with a power grab.
I’d like to hear your thoughts on other ways of identifying such individuals and cliques before they show their stripes.
Gylippus;
I long ago made up such a list. Here it is;
1. A belief in one’s absolute righteousness (and, consequently, a belief that anyone who disagrees is not merely wrong but stupid, and probably evil)
2. An adherence to dogma irrespective of fact
3. A belief that one has somehow been “Chosen”(by God, by a movement, or by the “irresistible forces of history”) to “remake the world”
4. A self-perception as being “the smartest guy in the room”, no matter where one is or who else is there
5. Being convinced that one is so “right” that one is not bound by laws; the ends justify the means
6. (corollary to [5]) A belief that one, being “right”, is not required to explain anything to anyone so gauche as to ask questions
7. A belief that anyone who opposes one, in any way, must be destroyed, both to remove them as obstacles and to show everybody else why crossing one is a Very Bad Idea
8. When things don’t go as planned, instead of trying to find out why, one simply looks for scapegoats other than oneself- and punishes them rather than changing The Plan
9. One constantly demands “More”- more power, more authority, more money- to achieve one’s ends regardless of past failures
10. When everything falls down, one simply leaves the mess for others to clean up. If, indeed, it is even possible.
and
11. When told that one’s Grand Plans for Utopia are more likely to cause Hell on Earth, reply with either “Your Hell is my Heaven”, or “Who cares? In the long run, we’re all going to die anyway”.
There are other indicators, like paranoia, belief in vast conspiracies (Hillary being a case in point), and an utter and complete contempt for anyone not part of the “ruling elite’”, but these are the most obvious ones.
Reading the writings of various past practitioners is a good way to develop an “ear” for the siren call of this sort of megalomania. Besides the obvious ones (Hitler’s Mein Kampf, the collected speeches of Lenin, etc.), there are others even more seminal. Plato’s Republic being one example, and the Malleus Maleficarum by Heinrich Kramer (1486) being another. (The Malleus attempted to refute arguments against the existence of black magic in terms that today are recognizable as the sorts of arguments used by AGW true believers against anyone who dares to question their pet theory.)
Speaking of the ecology crowd and related types, Al Gore’s Earth In The Balance (especially the pre-2000 editions before it was “edited” to make him sound less out in left field), and The Population Bomb by Paul Ehrlich are more recent masterpieces of absolutist doctrinal thinking. The sort which brooks no dissent.
For an overview of the mindset, from a relatively neutral POV, try The True Believer by Eric Hoffer.
For an admittedly fictionalized scenario illustrating the rationalizations such absolutists use when they find themselves in a very deep hole and simply can’t bring themselves to Put Down The Shovel And Stop Farking Digging Already, read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.

Great list Eon. Very comprehensive and worth memorizing. And thanks for the references. As it happens I own a copy of Hoffer’s book. I’m reading Paul Kengor’s “Dupes” right now which is an excellent overview of the spread of collectivist thought in America.
Obama is nothing more than a malignant narcissist, a construct whose course is determined by will-to-power driven eliminationist monsters who will dispose of him as soon as his value as their meat puppet is exceeded by his value to them as a martyr.
This Republic is systematically being laid waste as Machiavelli envisioned so long ago. So, yes, it is quite deliberate. Those behind Obama would rather rule in hell atop a heap of rubble and stinking corpses so long as they are the ones sitting on top of the heap.
The investigation named “kindred Spirit” was initiated in 1998 to uncover possible leaks regarding the W88 miniature nuclear weapons, however the leaks actually took place from 1984-1990 at the Los Alamos Labs in New Mexico. The information became public in 1999, but actual espionage occurred in early to mid 80′s. China tested their version of the W88 warhead in 1992.
There are many countries with extensive and sophisticated espionage programs in the USA; Israel, France, Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran, etc, and have been operating within UC Berkeley nuclear laboratories, and facilities such as Los Alamos and since the early 1970′s.
There were three separate investigations regarding espionage attempting to secure nuclear secrets; Kindred spirit, Royal Tourist an Tiger Trap. Almost all of them involved espionage in the 1970- late 1980′s. Then in 1988 John Glenn held hearings addressing the need to increase security at these labs as there were already indications of leaks.
You can read Summaries here;
http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/nuke/RL30143.pdf
Separate from these three investigations was the case of Wen Ho Lee and retired FBI agent James Smith, director of counter espionage for Los Angeles FBI Office. These occurred in mid 1980 and continued through mid 1990′s.
Security clearance in Dept of energy used to be color coded, so it was easy to determine what could be said at a meeting. Then it was decided that it created issues of self confidence and the color codes were discarded which made meetings more problematic. This is just one of the issues that rose out of Hazel O Leary management of the Dept of Energy in the 1990′s, leading to chaos and mis-management.
There is blame to spread across many agencies; FBI, Dept of Energy, the Pentagon, UC Berkeley management, Los Alamos Laboratory. It was systemic and predominantly from the early 1970′s until the early 1990′s.
All so true. But who ya gonna call?
Every agency capable of tracking down and punishing the leakers works for the One, and/or to personally gain. The US doesn’t even come in third.
The administration is not incompetent! They’ve been expert so far. Well- disguised evil intent 24/7/365.
Justice? Half the team appointed by Holder (a Left-wing legal goon) is another Left-wing legal goon, sure to sabotage any evidence. Will we hold the trials in Manhattan?
FBI?
Homeland Security?
Military tribunals?
CIA is prohibited from participating.
Vince Flynn would just “disappear” the culprits. What would Jack Bauer do?
Can you imagine the size of the housecleaning ahead of US, should we manage to win in November. Is any Republican up to this task? Is the Romney campaign hiding its real indignation?
This was a deliberate disclosure by the administration to prop up the big O (Zero) in his bid for reelection. The Congress should impeach him now!!
In high-stakes poker the hole cards matter less than the man playing them. If you’ve ever watched Texas Hold’Em, you know that the game is primarily psychological. When Obama reveals his cards, he’s not just exposing his hand. He reveals the how and why of his decision making. You can bet that more savy players at the table have noticed.
If you were Benjamin Netanyahu, you might conclude that it’s time to force the hand of the amateur at the table. The timing of any attack on Iran suddenly becomes an ace in the hole. If you regard Obama as a lukewarm friend at best, or possibly even an enemy, there is no reason to forestall an attack on Iran for political reasons. In fact, you have a chance to kill the proverbial two birds with one stone.
What a joke. Watergate was a corporate- and GOP-backed scheme to literally steal the presidency, and Iran-Contra was a secret war conducted by the CIA that not only included arming and training Iranian terrorists, but also included funneling money to South American narco-terrorists and then selling their drugs on American streets. Any comparison between either of those two events and “Securitygate” is just more of the same partisan hackery that we’ve come to expect from this website: “Hey, sure we tried to steal the presidency that one time, and sure we armed and trained the same Iranian terrorists that we now need to go to war with, and sure we funneled money to narco-terrorists at the same time we were waging a war on drugs, but hey, that Kenyan Socialist Usurper Anointed One NOBLAMA is like a gazillion bajillion times worse!!111″
Chaos Muppet, your hyperbolic argument-by-assertion fails to convince.
I think it’s cynical to assume the worst of operations in Nicaragua and Iran. They were trying to fix those countries, although by nefarious means, and their public lies weren’t helping matters. The drugs were coming at us anyways, as were terrorists, so stealing their governments may have stopped them in the long run.
What they did to Nixon was just shameful.
Nixon had much in common with Obama. Namely, that he was paranoid, incompetent, and unstable enough that he was willing to go to elaborate and illegal lengths (CREEP, “plumbers”, etc.) to win an election that even the opposition knew he didn’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell of losing , due to the other party’s choice of a standard bearer.
Iran-Contra is more closely comparable to Operation Fast & Furious, i.e. arms being supplied to a de facto insurgency in a Latin American country, without the knowledge or consent of that country’s government. Resulting in deaths in the country in question, mainly at the hands of the insurgents, which under international law constitutes an act of war against the government of the country so affected.
The difference is that Nicaragua under the Sandinistas was openly hostile to the United States and its allies, and stated as a matter of policy that it intended to export its brand of revolution elsewhere. Mexico, by comparison, is a U.S. ally (ostensibly). Generally speaking, it’s considered bad form to try to destabilize the governments of foreign nations that are on your side, Diem in South Vietnam notwithstanding.
Also, the only domestic political dimension of Iran-Contra was a battle with a Democratic-controlled Congress over the War Powers Act, which was later ruled unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court. Most of Fast & Furious is domestic in nature; it was, from all available evidence, an effort to increase violence in Mexico and along the U.S./Mexican border to act as propaganda for Obama’s desire to attack the Second Amendment to the Constitution. In other words, he was apparently willing to sacrifice the lives of law-abiding citizens in at least Mexico and probably the U.S. as well, in order to force His vision of “change” on the American people. The Constitution be damned.
Watergate was an example of politicians run amok and violating the law for political profit. Iran-Contra was paramilitary adventurism versus a hostile foreign state.
Obama & Co.’s behavior, in “leaks” and affairs like Fast & Furious, betrays an innate hostility toward the West in general, and the United States in particular.
Plus an utter and complete disregard for the welfare of those caught in the crossfire of their pretensions. Of course, as stated above, Obama believes that only He is real, anyway. So it’s probably not surprising that His behavior patterns are right out of an old Beatles song;
Let me take you down,
’cause I’m going to Strawberry Fields.
Nothing is real
and nothing to get hung about.
Strawberry Fields forever.

Very well said.
Splendid! Another three bong hit post from part time troll and full time Lefty nutjob, Pastor of Something or Other.
Nixon and Reagan were each framed by CIA. I don’t think anyone is framing Obama, more likely he is playing along with someone’s plan to upset things.
“But outrage was not the intent of Sanger,”
I’d love to believe anything about David Sanger, but his work at the New York Times discredits him totally in my mind.
……”Nixon and Reagan were each framed by CIA…..
……and, how, specifically would you back up such a statement? Something dropped on you from an overhanging limb of the baobab tree?
Mr Google says, “Under the Baobab Tree
They watched day after day as the children would return rain or shine to the
shelter of the Baobab Tree. A single instructor would captivate an audience of 50 …
http://www.underthebaobabtree.org/
“how, specifically would you back up such a statement?”
I can’t. Standards of evidence are controlled, as is the evidence itself. I am thus reduced to conjecture and intuition, searching for answers, and being wrong sometimes. However to give you a small lead: virtually every dictator in the world (Ortega and Chavez for instance) has been photographed happily shaking hands with American officers. These are villains who one would think should be shot-on-sight, if you believe the Western media. It’s a safe guess that most ‘bad guys’ are our very own agents.
As for the CIA scandalizing presidents, that’s Oliver Stone stuff… A great man once said- “至于你信不信,我反正是信了。” Whether or not you believe it, I believe it.
The release of top secret national security information by the Obama Administration begs the questions, “Who made the decision to divulge ongoing operations and defense strategies?” and “What purpose do these ‘leaks’ serve?”
Voters, whose top concerns are our nation’s safety and security, are sophisticated, informed, patriotic Americans who know our secrets should be kept, not used as campaign props. The amateurs in the White House who thought divulging this would show a strong President Obama, have revealed what an incompetent, weak and VERY DANGEROUS man he is. These miscalculations on their parts demonstrate breathtaking IGNORANCE.
None of us are impressed, persuaded or fooled. President Obama will go down to defeat by an even larger margin than did former President Jimmy Carter. Only the far left, radical fringe will vote for him now. The rest of us can’t wait to get rid of Obama. He’s finished!
The inner anarchist of our Narcissist in Chief seems to have an operant policy of throwing his allies under the bus. There is a long list of those who had or still do support him, who have been turned asunder the wheels of his pursuit of power. Outstanding in the latest news is the intelligence community, the rule of law with selective immigration, military funding, the budget, the Keystone pipe line union jobs, etc… Perhaps treadmarks are the sign of loyality to the ambitions of fundamentally transforming America.
We have heard and seen things from this administration that we thought never in a million years would an American President do, say or act.
The saddest part of all of this: No one cares. Everyone postures, and no one will fix the problem.
Yes, we will vote, and we will remove the present form of cancer. However, the cancer cells have spread throughout the US and our “leaders”. We can vote and protest etc. etc., but until we hold them accountable, really accountable, painfully accountable,we are all just surfs.
How do we force their hand?
FairWitness, I’m praying you are right! He has the gays; the illegals (who apparently vote); the blacks (who some have admitted vote for him because of his skin colour alone); hollywood (don’t need to say anything more about them, except, I won’t pay money for any of their trash); the communists; the socialists; and of course if he doesn’t legalize pot etc., before the election there will be a promise that he will after he gets in again (who needs congress, if he doesn’t like it, he will go around them); and the young muddle-headed kids who come out of college after being indoctrinated by their lefty (think harvard, etc.) profs/lecturers.
Who’s left? A little frightening isn’t it!
Did anyone hear harvy weinstein on fox this morning to talk about his new film. Well all he talked about was how wonderful obozo is and how unfair it is for Adelman (sp) to give 10 million to Romney’s pac. Didn’t bother him that the hollyweird elite donate (in fact he had 2 fundraisers for 0b0z0), that georgie porgy soros has donated millions, but oh no, all those wealthy republicans will give to Romney. What an….. (can’t say it, I don’t swear), but he’s a typical left wing, socialist, communist Jew. When are they going to wake up and realize it doesn’t matter that they are left wing/communists/
socialists sharia law will get rid of them just as fast as hitler did in the 30′s/40′s, simply because they are Jewish (even in name only).
Won’t see any of his movies ever, ever, ever!
Nothing will come of it. We are so completely enmeshed in what I call Brave New 1984 as a culture that nothing is real any more. The Right New Media has next to zero effect on the impregnable wall of denial the Left has erected. We have the government we deserve. The Republic is gone. Reduced to rubble from which It can never be rebuilt. It took great men of character to construct this nation from amongst the wretched rabble escaped from Europe in centuries long past. No such men now exist and should one arise he would be silenced and sidelined immediately if not assassinated.
The Libertarian Right is blind to this fact. They foolishly believe that philosophy can eventually contain and enlighten the twisted drives of a lost mankind. They are unwittingly part of the problem.
Part of the problem is that if you cry “wolf, wolf, wolf” about EVERYTHING Obama does, then it just becomes “wooff, wooff, wooff,” and “woof.”
Arrange your soul Dwight. You seem happy wasting your mere human existence advocating your sick philosophies even though they have been proven wrong time after time throughout history but what you do not realize is that you are captaining your ship for eternity away from the creator of all life. There are two directions in reality Dwight. Toward God and away from God. The eternal darkness awaits you.
Really? Jesus did not seem to care much about who was in power or not in power. You apparently have elided in your mind your political views and your relationship with the Lord. Does “render unto Caesar” ring a bell? In relation to my or your soul, does Jesus care if the guvment is right wing or left wing?
Jesus of Nazareth did not live during a time with a government of the people by the people and for the people. Such a thing had never existed on earth and did not exist for 1800 years after The Messiah’s murder. I am Right solely because I am Christian. I must side politically with those who decry the flushing of over a million unborn human beings every year. You and yours treat such behavior as a veritable sacrament. The Christ tells us that He came to make us free indeed and it happened. Because of the Christian foundation of this nation people for the first time on earth were free in spirit and free in temporal reality. You and yours wish to enslave man once again. Enslave us to your elitist control. Your power mad hatred of everything this nation stands for. You work for the devil Dwight.
So if Jesus had only known that there would be a democratic republic, he would have given a parable about voting Republican. Well that clears that up. I appreciate your concern for my immortal soul, but the peace which passeth all understanding seems to have eluded you. Good luck finding it.
We all know that if one just changed the name from Obama to George W Bush in the litany of complaints by VDH, the call for impeachment would be the unifying theme of the regnant MSM, aka the Democratic Party.
Given that this is NOT the case, at this time, the inescapable conclusion is that Benjamin Franklin’s question has been answered—
NO, after over 200 years, the dumbed down American people, by serial acts of “rape” of the constitution—the elections of Clinton and Obama, the rise of Pelosi & Reid, etc—have proven they could NOT keep the republic.
How seemingly paradoxical!
Deluded Americans lecture China to give up one party rule, while their masses are allowed personal freedom in economical terms. Simultaneously, the putative two party American political system is proving itself unable or/and unwilling to effectively resist the takeover by its indigenous version of the Communist Party—but, hey, the masses are apparently economically free, and there ARE hundreds of chickens in every pot, so what’s not to like?
In November we’ll find out if the delusion (and/or apathy) of Americans is terminal.
Maybe we’ll all be reduced to mimicking the president, when we reach the bottom of the power well, and just be happy to whine away.
Wah, wah. The president blatantly breaks laws, so what can we do about it? Wah, wah.
No calls for impeachment by the top dogs of the Republican Party or right wing punditry, Limbaugh included, tell you all you need to know.
What is the point of wasting their breath & energy while they are sitting there with a Democrat-dominated Senate? I am not so sure O would be getting away with all of this if the Pubs had taken over the Senate in 2010, albeit the influence of affirmative action might have made it quite difficult to bring forth impeachment proceedings against O. It’s no small wonder at all why it’s imperative that we rid ourselves of affirmative action forever. The sooner we do this the better. Never again should we make the mistake of electing an AA POTUS.
You are both right and wrong.
Of course, since the jackasses control the Senate, impeachment would go nowhere. Correcto.
My point, though, is there should be a CALL for impeachment.
As in CALL a spade a spade.
Just making an impeachment brouhaha about this final straw, granting amnesty to young lawbreaking aliens, should be the LEAST “knee jerk” reaction expected from a still-alive Republican Party!
If a nobody blogger like me can figure this out, why can’t a Boehner or a McConnell, and especially a Limbaugh, use THEIR own bully pulpits to tell the truth to the power that Obama is?
Look, it’s not mostly about making laws, because the partisanship is so hyper, these days. No, the desperate need is to break through the crust of MSM-protected conventional wisdom, and change people’s minds.
Right now, around 60% of the population of America looks sane and rational, but in truth they have been brainwashed, so they, like all those poor (literal) suckers who were on welfare, before its reform, would, themselves, be blessed to be freed from their delusions.
A Reagan would give his “Tear down this wall!” speech, applied to the MSM “truth” = Pravda masters, and calling for the impeachment of Obama is just what’s called for.
A Krauthammer should go all the way!
Obama’s a lawless president?
Ergo, ARREST him!
and another “woof.”
What does “woof” mean?
Are you barking a dog’s approval, or disapproval?
See number 29.
There really is no point in wasting the time & the taxpayers’ money that it would take to do something like impeach O if there is no chance for success. Even with the best of chances (as in the case of the presence of a Pub-dominated Senate to go along with the Pubs’ House), the PALM (see cfbleacher’s term for the MSM) will do its best to undermine any efforts to bring O to justice.
Just a huge not-worth-it-category. I don’t blame them for not going there.
Well, yes but … you really need to insert the name of GW Bush up there between Clinton and Obama. Bush was no conservative. No Bush is. They are elitist Ivy League New World Order mavens and actually Bush probably did more damage than Clinton.
I thought about putting GWB in there. Your take on all the Bush clan is the same as mine.
In economic terms, as Laffer noted, Slick Willie was “great”, but as a human being, he was AND IS a terrible stain on America’s presidential “dress”. He SO degraded the presidency!
GWB was at least dignified, even though he spent 8 long years eschewing the veto, much to my anguished dismay. He ended up with a record full of examples of not using his power.
Either he didn’t know how the game of politics was played, (such that it’s almost always better to fight for your cause, and lose, than to try never to lose) or he knew, and was totally animated with “going along to getting along”.
I conclude he was a placeholder president, whose only claim to future fame will be the war in Iraq.
Something about Texas pubbies. What a bunch of pussies. I think they have some sort of inferiority complex derived from being from the South. Guilt or something. They try so hard once they get to DC to fit in with the cabal. If they had any backbone at all they would stand up and call out the DC constitution usurpers for exactly what they are. Criminals.
I’ve lived in Texas for 20 years now and I still can’t understand them.
As usual, an excellent article pointing out the utter hypocrisy of the Left. Yet, as some have posted here, probably nothing will come of it.
Congressional Republicans have complained about this administration’s criminal behavior before and Fox News and their contributors have eviscerated the same over it. But the media that conservative politicians really fear—WaPo and the NYT—will of course NOT start a drum beat of hellfire criticism over anything Obama does or has done. The immoral scribes at these newspapers and their equally rotten counterparts elsewhere in the media will predictably go bananas if a Republican administration gets a single hair out of place; but Obama killing terrorists by missile strikes video game style isn’t even close to the moral horror of submitting flesh and blood human beings to the hideous tortures of waterboarding. The sad thing is that Fox will often quote these media degenerates when they go bananas as if their going bananas was by itself a news item (which it isn’t). Will conservative politicians ever learn that the corrupt media organizations of the left preach to only a small part of the population and the majority ignore them?
How much of the narrative about the behind-the-scenes warrior Obama is even true? While many facts are being released that a patriotic, loyal President would have kept secret, the personal details included about Obama may be fictional in large part.
Dr. Hanson, I realize the implications of someone of your stature telling the truth most here accept about Comrade Obama: he is not an American and he does not act in America’s interests as those here would define our interests. People enlessly talk of the incompetence of his administration but this is mere denial; these people are very competent. They are carrying out an agenda of eliminating the US as a singular power able to project its will and protect its interests unilaterally. That part of the agenda has essentially been accomplished: our military is worn out and much of its equipment is verging on obsolescence, we don’t have enough front rank equipment to act in an agressive role, we don’t have the money to carry on a war which actually consumes any significant materiel, our traditional allies have largely been alienated and at minimum know that we are an untrustworthy ally – the British have never trusted us with sensitive intelligence and certainly don’t under Comrade Obama – we owe the Chinese too much money to be able to protect either our own or the interests of allies or neutrals in the Pacific, and Taiwan is forfeit whenever the Chinese choose to act, we are essentially bankrupt, we have a powderkeg of race and class animosity in the cities and some of the Blue and bankrupt states, the Muslim world knows that the US will not interfere with the destruction of Israel and they await only the re-election of their man in Washingto to do so and reconstitute the Caliphate, I can go on but it only gets more dire and depressing. In short, Soros’ coup d’etat has been successful in its goal of eliminating the US as a singular World Power and has done it in a frightenly short time.
Now Soros’ allies on the far left get their chance to fundamentally transform the US domestically. Communists learn well from their defeats so they will adopt the fascist model of state sponsored but nominally private businesses which are “coordinated” with the policy objectives of the Junta. Business and capital that should be adamant in their opposition to the Obama Junta don’t dare oppose the government or Obama’s candidacy because they have made it clear that they are not reticent to unleash the entire federal alphabet soup to reward their friends and punish their enemies. We are destined for interesting times: with an Obama victory – fairly won or stolen – they will move with dictatorial power and speed to make our democratic institutions into a charade and end the Republic we have known, with an Obama defeat, the Country will be thrown into chaos and President Romney will face an irrepressible conflict not seen since 1861.
” 9. RJ
Doc, you and I both know and understand that Obama, our Neo-Marxist, anti-capitalist, muslim lovin, Jew hatin, metrosexual commander in chief has many “axes to grind” especially “getting even with Whitey” if one really takes a “group dynamic” point of view.”
“Getting even with Whitey”? He IS whitey. A half white, raised by whites, liberally educated by whites, socialist white, hidden within a sort of brown skin. “Angry Black” is simply a role he plays upon occasion – when he needs black votes. It also allows him to scream “Racist” every time someone notices what he’s up to.
Excellent essay – for me as a citizen, I would like to believe that my government is willing to protect me and our country, but I’d like to not know all of the details unless I am personally involved…..the key statement in this essay to me was :
“There is no more plausible deniability on our part.”
This will take a long time to recover from….if I were an Ally, I wouldn’t trust anything the US says as I now know you are willing to divulge secrets regarding our cooperation on national security for domestic political reasons. If I were an enemy, I wouldn’t trust anything the US says as my paranoiac fears that you are after me have now been confirmed.
We are definitely in more dangerous times due to the narcissistic needs of our President. I believe he may go down as one of the worst Presidents in our history…..is he our Nero?
Riddle me this, fellow patriots.
1) On what day, since the disclosure of Walter Duranty being a lackey for the Communists, has the New York Times EVER stopped being a lackey for the Marxists?
They are, indeed, the Daily Duranty. Hell bent on disclosing every damaging thing they possibly can to tear down this land of ours.
2)On what day, since he was mentored in the sleazy bars by Frank Marshall Davis, has Obama shown clear and convincing signs that he respects and admires our land? Our Constitution? Our checks and balances between and among the three branches of government? Our borders? Our exceptionalism? Our military? Our free market democracy?
3)On what day did Obama turn forcefully and convincingly away from the spewing of hatred by Jeremiah Wright?
4)On what day did Obama shun the policies and ideologies of the Midwest Academy?
5)On what day did Obama suggest that gutting our military was not a “tradeoff” for pushing unsustainable entitlements upon a country staring at the brink of economic extinction?
6)On what day did Obama say that a serious budget must be put forth from the White House or Democratic-mafia Senate. so that we can stave off the collapse of an economy under enemy siege?
7)On what day did Obama turn away from the ideologies of the Socialist Scholars convention, which has dreamed up ways to destroy capitalism and replace it with Marxist notions that have destroyed two continents already?
When the Propaganda and Lies Ministry provides full cover for all of the above questions and openly conspires to tear down this land of ours, we need to ask ourselves this:
8)On what day will the patriots of this land not need another Venona disclosure to understand that the Marxists are undermining this land of ours by intent, not clumsiness.
We insult the first Communist President by suggesting that the “leaked” this information to his Propaganda and Lies Ministry. This is offensive, nothing was “leaked” at all. If we are too afraid to confront the truth, we can swallow the lies whole…or in more palatable bites. Finger food for those who wish to be fooled, so they sleep better at night.
And, I can tell you which finger the Marxists are using for that food, if you would like as well.
I guage the effectiveness of the Ministry of Propaganda and Lies by my wife’s perceptions of things political. My wife is a smart woman, longtime Republican voter, a career high-level ‘crat who knows the world of government and politics pretty well but who was never a political player – one in the family was enough. She casually watches the news, but isn’t a news junkie and isn’t much into internet politics and commentary. In short, she’s a fairly informed and somewhat cynical consumer of the output of the Ministry of Propaganda and Lies. Unfortunately, she buys the moral equivalence message almost entirely. Her response to ANY criticism of of the Obama Administration is “the Republicans did/do it too” or “Bush did it too or worse.” The nastiness of the left’s attacks on GWB and here at home on Governor Murkowski, Governor/VP Candidate Palin, and even on me had the effect I’ve seen on many people; they just blame everybody political for the nastiness and make no distinction between whether it is true or false, who was the instigator. I don’t know if it is a purposeful strategy or not, but the deep cynicism of the res publica has made meaningful criticism of the Administration impossible because people just turn off with the “they all do it” response. The only conclusion I can draw is for the “moderate” or independent voter, critical or negative messages about BHO will not be effective; they’ll be met with the “they all do it” shrug, and their minds just won’t let them see what their eyes and ears are telling them.
Your wife sounds like a wise woman with perspective far beyond your own. She sees the big picture, you see that last (and maybe the first, too) guy who has done something nasty to you.
Actually, Dee – wight, very, very few people have ever done anything nasty to me though quite a few have tried.
What does she make of Obama’s past associations (Ayers, Wright, etc.), his embrace of black liberation theology, the withholding of pertinent college records & such?
Unfortunately, the “they all do it” tactic works effectively and thus is used endlessly by the media as they work like junkyard dogs protecting their masters in the Democratic Party. And it drives me nuts that people fall for it. The narrative goes something like this…”Democrats commit murder and Republicans jaywalk and oh what a shame it is that both are lawbreakers”. And the idiot independents – who are little more than hand-puppets, and who can’t be bothered to do anything but be spoon fed by the media – lament that both sides do it. And vote accordingly.
The fact that the future of this country is at the mercy of these particularly ignorant people makes me deeply sad.
Ask your wife if she is aware the same psychological mechanism is in play with the supposition “they all do it” as was in play during WWII in the camps when normal, everyday German citizens did nothing more than “followed orders”.
(I know I’ve probably lost most of you by mention of WWII Germany, but it is illustrative of an aspect that is part of our shared human condition.)
I haven’t had a chance to read the comments yet, but will note that VDH begins,”In the Watergate scandal, no one died, at least that we know of,” presumably setting some bar on how deaths being caused are a prime criteria for policy correctness. Did or did not VDH go in whole hog on the Iraq War? Hmmmm.
What a double bind for righties here. Obama turns out to be somewhat efficient at killing Muslims, whereas from considerable other righty rhetoric, you would think that all O ever did to Muslims was bow to Saudi royalty. Golly, aren’t we now glad that he drones on? Nah. It is the oh-so-reprehensible IDEA of the lefty, Ayers-loving, probably Muslim himself Barack Hussein (what a scary name) O, which is the coin of the realm.
Obama’s policies have certainly not returned a lost 10-15% of us to better times which we used used to have, and I plan to vote for Tomney, but so many of you had such fevered ODS from day one, that it really did not matter what he did. Like GWB became to libs after Iraq, ANYTHING he did was useful only as something to prove that he was incompetent, a villain, and a scoundrel. Thought ceases and political chemical reaction sets in. If I didn’t know better, I would say that VDH is outraged because the above may help Obama get, re-elected, not because it is going to cause more deaths than the Iraq War. Then again, maybe I don’t know better.
Well, at least Dee – white is doing his lefty trolling straight and using good lefty talking points instead of the usual concern troll stuff of trying to pose as a moderate leaning conservative who’s just concerned about our extremism out here in the world of bitter clingers. Don’t bother to read the comments, Dwight; you won’t like them.
Whatsa, matter, getting testy cuz there’s no darkness to sleep in? ;-) Bad comments coming? Sounds like I’d better retreat to the gun closet, and barricade myself in the basement, but, then, how could I water my crops and maybe plant a few more? There’s work to be done.
…
Dwight doesn’t like the fact that unlike himself, we can tell the difference between political expediency and principle. Yes, Obama has killed many Muslims. He does it because another major terrorist strike on US soil during his one term would harm his chances at a second. It also gives him the opportunity to extend and expand his surveillance and control apparatus. Leftists are good at identifying and exploiting the opportunities in any given situation because they are driven towards an over-arching goal. We on the right just want to live and let live within a framework that we are free to determine by consensus. I’m glad erstwhile Jihadi’s are dead, but I give him no credit for it.
None of that changes the fact that Obama is a hardcore Leftist dictator wannabee. So the dilemma that Dwight thinks confounds us doesn’t exist.
Don’t you think that the Founders set up a system in which, whoever our leader was, he would generally have to do the political, the expedient, often the practical thing, even if he was the anti-Christ? You, of course, being a true believer can only approve of fellow true believers, whereas our system was set up to more or less work because the President, villain or hero as he might be, wanted to be re-elected. You have the belief that Obama is killing Muslims, only because he wants to be re-elected, not because he really wants to. Another President might really want to but not be able to because he wanted to get re-elected. Messy system, but that is how it is set up and it sort of works.
No. The Founders put their lives on the line to combat tyrrany, and sheep like you.
Good grief, maybe you really don’t know about the Founders’ pragmatism!! When you come up with boilerplate responses, one suspects that you cannot reply with content. It is sad how many brandish the Founders, but know them only via selected quotes from Rush, Newt, or the NRA. They howl that the Founders are not being taught, but really do not want to know about the Founders; they want it known that there were these great men, and whatever it was they said, we are not doing any more. Hmmmm.
I’m well aware of the vast array of competing interests that had to be resolved in formulating the Constitution. The whole notion of separation of powers is a testament to the Founders’ understanding that decision makin had to be diffused in order to prevent consistent bias from creeping into the system.
But one thing they did not compromise on was their desire to be free from unaccountable authority. We hold that same principle and will not compromise on it either. Obama is not just another President with whom we disagree, he is a totalitarian thug and serial deceiver (like you). Why should we compromise with such? Better to just vote him out and then deal with his crimes afterwards.
“More deaths than the Iraq War”? Are all deaths equivalent? How many deaths did, say, storming the beaches at Normandy cause? Was engaging in World War 2 somehow morally more reprehensible than destroying Saddam Hussein’s dictatorship, because more human beings died?
Karl Rove is a scumbag. David Vitter is a whoremonger. We get it.
Doesn’t have jack to do with the Obama Administration’s failures. But feel free to play your equivalence games.
Treasonous is the correct word for the action of the White House for deliberately releasing information on intelligence matters of utmost confidentiality.
Stupid is the correct term for any reporter party to such releases to openly state that he was given such information by a “high level” White House official. Commonsense would inform him that pretending that he had secured the information from some obscure unidentified ource and that it was unconfirmed was the only way to keep him from being an accomplice to treason.
Supreme stupidity is the term to be used for a President who claims to be outraged that anyone would accuse “his” White House of deliberately revealing critical intelligence, after a reporter had bragged about his source.
What more do you need to prove the totally dedication of the Administration to totalitarian rule? This has to be the mother of all Gaffes. As Saul Alinsky advised, we should rub their noses in it scour the wound with acid.
is exactly the right word. the closest dr. hanson gets to that is “unpatriotic.” a big difference.
Thank-you Professor Hanson for another verbal evisceration of the liberal hypocrisy, by re-educating myself through people like yourself, made possible by this incredible source of information called the Net, I have completed the 12 step process of purging myself of the mind-numbing intoxication of the media. I am now an independent thinker like yourself, though not as articulate, but I will always be a recovering-liberal strengthing my resistance, through writers, bloggers and teachers like you. Thank-you for all you do. Step by step, person by person, and over time, this democratic desease in our Republic will be contained and hopefully conquered.
In learning that Teh Won reads Aquinas whilst contemplating assassinations via remote control, I am reminded that “Liberals read Marx and Lenin, Conservatives understand Marx and Lenin!”
“…Why would a “senior” official have to remain unnamed when all he was doing was passing along unclassified information?…”
To save him/her the costs of multiple attorneys attending multiple Congressional hearings as their client is alternately skewered and lionized by the members of those panels.
Can’t subpoena “anonymous”, can you?
Sometimes we look at what is taking place in America and ask “why in the world is Obama doing this” since everything he does and touches seems to make matters worse. This may be a good time to refresh folks memories about the plan, methodology, objectives, and goals of Obama and company.
Americans must realize that we are in a situation today that we have never been in before – - we have never had a truly EVIL president before. We have been conditioned to discount any possibility of a “conspiracy” when we are actually living in denial of a conspiracy that started decades ago and is playing out right before our eyes as we refuse to take the required action against it because we would like to think it can’t happen in our America:
(1) Destroy America as we have known her in every arena possible – to remake America on a Godless foundation – turn America into a lawless nation by ignoring our Constitution, Separation of Powers, Voting Laws and we should expect nothing less than moral failure at all levels;
(2) Remove all Christian Influence in America & promote Islam & Godlessness – destroy the FOUNDATION and what has been built on it will crumble;
(3) Destroy Capitalism and replace it with Communist Socialism;
(4) Destroy our political & financial influence capability in the world since our military cannot be defeated – they can ONLY defeat America from within;
(5) Create the appearance that NOTHING in America works anymore – CIA – NSA – Secret Service – Supreme Court – Economy – Political System – Education – Healthcare – Military – Traditional Families – Marriage – Communications – Media – the Legal System – our Constitution – the Jury System – Childrearing – The Church, etc.;
(6) Destroy the dollar, the markets, and our economy as much as possible – leaving only the Federal Government for people to depend on as the only entity that can print more money;
(7) Keep America dependent on oil, products, & services provided by our enemies which are financially supported by our purchase of the products, services, & resources we discovered, created, and developed because their systems were incapable of doing so;
(8) Get as many people working for or dependent upon the Federal Government as possible – including UNIONS which in many cases are an extension of a Socialist government;
(9) Create disharmony by allowing massive immigration into America by people who do not seek to assimilate but to conquer & retake thus creating social unrest in an otherwise peaceful American culture;
(10) Force minority ideas and beliefs upon Americans under the guise of “Freedom & Tolerance” like Is lam which neither respects our Constitution or the concept of Freedom of Religion while demanding the same freedom in order to gain power through infiltration & invasion;
(11) Remove wealth from citizens since wealth is power & all power must be in the hands of a few and government – much like the Party Elite of the USSR, as with GE making BILLIONS and paying no taxes and UNIONS being given the assets of auto companies which are taken from the stockowners after the unions drive the companies into the ground;
(12) Overextend everything including our military, social services, healthcare;
(13) Follow Liberal Christian Leaders who have led to the demise of the influence of Christianity in our Society, in Government, and in Business while they promote a distorted view of “Freedom of Religion” and “Separation of Church and State” which denies the Christian Foundation upon which America is built and denies God’s desire and willingness to bless the nation in which His People “… humble themselves and pray ….”
The Crisis we see in America today is no accident and it has not come about naturally!
“The strategy of forcing political change through orchestrated crisis. The “Cloward-Piven Strategy” seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse.”
“Make the enemy live up to their (sic) own book of rules,” Alinsky wrote in his 1989 book Rules for Radicals. When pressed to honor every word of every law and statute, every Judeo-Christian moral tenet, and every implicit promise of the liberal social contract, human agencies inevitably fall short. The system’s failure to “live up” to its rule book can then be used to discredit it altogether, and to replace the capitalist “rule book” with a socialist one.
“Their strategy to create political, financial, and social chaos that would result in revolution blended Alinsky concepts with their more aggressive efforts at bringing about a change in U.S. government. To achieve their revolutionary change, Cloward and Piven sought to use a cadre of aggressive organizers assisted by friendly news media to force a re-distribution of the nation’s wealth.”
“By crisis, we mean a publicly visible disruption in some institutional sphere. Crisis can occur spontaneously (e.g., riots) or as the intended result of tactics of demonstration and protest which either generate institutional disruption or bring unrecognized disruption to public attention.”
In 2012, we must defeat Socialism, Communism, Statism, Humanism, Internationalism, Marxism . . . all of which support Obama. Failing to defeat the Obama machine may mean that we lose America for our children and grandchildren.

Very good synopsis and pretty much spot on. Problem is Romney does not believe anything close to this truth. He will not fight to reverse this horrible decent into societal hell we are in. He won’t even be able to slow it. We are in Brave New 1984 and we can’t get out. Civil conflagration is not possible. The drones will find you and eliminate you wherever you hide. Politics will not reverse the hell-bound slide as the politicians are all empty suits. We are about to make Rome’s collapse look like it happened in ultra maximum slow motion.
excellent.
And nueces is correct as well.
Romney’s mission is to keep the gravy train rolling for HIS buds, instead of the other guys buds, since the only thing he and his buds have ever known is the everlasting gravy train. They refuse to believe and probably can’t even imagine that the other guys have something totally different in mind.
Obama did not choose to wage a covert war. Our intelligence agencies go to work everyday to protect our nation no matter who sits in the oval office. Obama could not order them to stop so he has released all this information to disable them. Not just while he is in office but for many years after he is gone. He not only exposed our operations but our allies in the war on terror. No country dare trust us not to expose their operations to their enemies, every country will be as wary of our security policies as Israel has been for the last couple of years. We do not have human intel on the ground in most countries and “depend” on our friends in other intelligence services to share intel. For obama it is a twofer, he puffs him self in the eyes of morons and destroys our inteligence capabilties.
I didn’t think of this. I think you are exactly exactly right.
Can I use your post?
A fine article Victor David Hanson – a very enlightening and provocative article indeed!
With so many of these pathetic situations being exposed to the blind public on a rather limited basis – due to the media cover up provided by the likes of ABC – NBC and CBS – I have started to rethink the whole idea of a far and just election as a source of removing the political cancer of the Obama administration!
I have joked about using my tobacco barn as a holding center for government officials awaited trial by the people – pull them off of the streets – out of their beds – listen to their pleadings – then send them off to Guantanamo. A vast array of discussions all with good humor and lightheartedness are slowly becoming very serious and troubled.
Policemen – military friends – people who own businesses – guys who work in factories – just troubled Americans who are witnessing the destruction of our country by our communist inspired leader Barrack Hussein Obama!
Wait for an election?
I don’t think so – and I am not so sure that lightheartedness is the way to address the situation anymore!
Get a grip. If I come to your barn, should I bring my sheet?
You are full of sheet, Dwight.
Have a nice life.
Dwight – We will have everything needed for your re-education – as for the sheet we provide it – initially it is used for absorbing any spilled water during your initial interrogation – after your ‘boarding’ – wrap up in it – it’s your ‘blanky’!
As I age, I tend to have my agents perform onerous services for me. Please treat them nicely, for your own sake.
Oh I don’t think the leaks are the problem.
The problem is that what they didn’t leak is many times worse.
There is no reason whatsoever to believe the Criminal is any better than any other Leftist, ever. He studied them all. He’s amoral. He’s worse.
Soon to be nuclear Iran?? You obviously do not know what you are talking about. Or, maybe you know something that the 16 US intel agencies don’t.
Having assessed Teh Won and his halo for the past four years using all the sophisticated tools of modern technology, rigorous scientific method and advanced analytical techniques – I have concluded that President Obama is one dangerous Nutball.
Reading Dr Hanson’s article here, and remembering the accounts of The Pentagon Papers, Watergate, Irangate….as they happened…. and now this sangfroid-Sanger-Ignatious-ignobility effort to gain them a Pulitzer makes me think that the competitive nature of media “reporting” leaves absolutely no room for “class’ or noblesse oblige in this Fourth Estate. Publish or perish seems to be the watchword. Selfishness trumps national security or defense.
Does any reader here remember, “Loose Lips Sinks Ships” when it was meant as serious business, a wartime warning, not merely a catch slogan?…..and could have left the perpetrator open to charges of Treason?
So, today we have the ilk of these Sangers and Ignatious’ sitting smugly at their keyboards with dreams of sugared-plummy Pulitzers.
It’s a source of confusion that we Americans, being now in a world war against bloody Islam, do not act as I remember the way we acted during World War Two, the Korean War, and the Vietnamese War.
Where is the difference…..now…this minute? What elevates these breathless media “reporters” to such smug heights which evade the conviction of these “leakers” and the publishers? Why their immunity? Who has drawn these new lines? Obama? Why do we permit this?
Having lived through the Nixon bruhaha and the then the Clinton oral adventure, I can only wonder when will it be that Obama is Impeached?
“The Impeachment Of Obama”…..that phrase has such a nice deserved sound…….correct? Who cares if the Senate is Democrat controlled? Bringing the charges themselves should deliver the humiliating message……maybe Obama is incapable of being humiliated?
Nice to see you are back policing VDH’s comments. As to whether or not people are “crying wolf” in these matters it depends on your perspective. There is a saying at law that “Free speech does not extend to shouting “Fire” in a crowded theater UNLESS the theater is actually on fire”. Then there is an obligation to send up the cry. This is the situation we find outselves in with the Obama administration. There have been so many exercises in shady practice that it is hard to keep up with them. As a result diligent critics are in the position of appearing to “cry wolf” when they point out this stuff. I am reminded that Churchill was roundly criticized for “crying wolf” about German rearmament until the wolf was literally at the door.
The administration can only get away with this because the usual suspects, the NYT, WaPo, networks, entertainment media etc. choose not to pay attention. During Watergate the major media outlets timed various revelations in cooperation with each other to create a “firestorm” of controversey every few days. This also happened in Iran/Contra and in the “Plame Affair.” These same organs now protect the Obama administration by refusing to cover stories such as “Fast and Furious” and the ongoing security leaks or minimizing everything abuot them. I know it’s a tired line but imagine if these things were occurring under the watch of a GOP President. The elite media would be calling for the tumbrils to be rolling to the blade stuffed with bewigged Republican aristocrats.
If it was a mere internal matter than it might matter less but the Obama administration has blatantly decided to compromise important aspects of our foreign and military policy in the interests of reelection. Like it or not that is the position we are in.
Re: your seemingly resigned,”Like it or not that is the position we are in.”
But, we must not be passive and accept this position. We must have our Congress, The House is the best place, do something.
Re: the incomparable Churchill’s speech, “..we shall fight them on the beaches”…
…..right now I’d say our Islamic enemy has passed …”our beaches” and has now well established salient-inroads in Northern Virginia-istan and Dearborn-istan, and by some accounts fairly deep inside our current “administration”. We used to call this a Fifth Column.
Exceedingly good point! To quote Churchill again – “Never Despair! Never, never, never, never!”
Nixon’s was a novice compared to LBJ (who’d hand out $50K in cash from the safe behind his desk – in an era when $50K was today’s half-million), and JFK whose daddy did the same for his son – to deal with all range of challenges to their position. At least Nixon believed he was protecting the nation’s interest when he went after those leaking classified secrets. LBJ seldom acted beyond his own self interest.
And why is it that anytime President Bush even breathed the word Iraq, the Democrats and the entire media establishment jumped down his throat and screamed like banshees about his ‘politicizing’ the war and trying to gain political benefit from it. And yet, when Democrats – in this case Obama – nakedly sacrifices US security in order to make himself look like the tough guy – again, for purely political purposes – the media seems to be on vacation.
I’ve said this many times before – the true enemy of this country, the number one domestic enemy, is the media.
Dr VDH needs to forward a copy of his commentary to every Republican in the House and Senate. And they need to forward a copy to all of their constituants and from their to all the local media outlets in small and large town America. Is this too complicated ? Is this asking too much from the phony, impotent Republican bastards ?
He is psychotic about the destroying of America nothing is more important than that, to BO. Watch his actions and listen to his words they don’t match.
I have to disagree here. A secret is a secret only because the administration says it is. If POTUS decides it isn’t, it isn’t. Sorry, them’s the facts, like ‘em or not.
This is another red herring by the Clown Posse. Like the amnesty for teenage illegal immigrants it’s designed to take the air out of the dialectic on the economy.
If the (R)’s can keep the political discourse focused on the economy, the Obumbler is toast.
If ANY other topic captures the media spotlight, then it’s a close race. The (D)’s, with legions of dead and illegal voters and their pet judges will win a close race. Don’t fall in the trap.
Get rid of the Won, and all his ‘findings’, his Czars, his job choking regulations and his overall marxist plans will be dust in the wind. Nothing this POTUS has done can’t be undone. Worse comes to worst the federal code is trashed and the GPO brings out it’s file copy of the 2000 federal code and we work off that. the 2000 federal code was the last balanced budget. or maybe it was 1998? I’m too lazy to look it up and it doesn’t matter.
Go back to the last set of rules, regulations and laws ( Federal Code) that had a balanced budget and work from there. I loath golf but I think the golf term is Mulligan.
“I have to disagree here. A secret is a secret only because the administration says it is. If POTUS decides it isn’t, it isn’t. Sorry, them’s the facts, like ‘em or not.”
Tell that to the Pakistani doctor just sentenced to 33 years in prison for helping the Americans.
The selective leaks of documents acquired from the raid in Pakistan are designed to expand upon the lie that Osama bin Laden was present and killed during the raid. He almost certainly was not. He most likely was killed years earlier when missiles were used to collapse Taliban/Al-Qaeda cave headquarters in Afghanistan. The bin Laden killed in Pakistan was most likely a brother, half-brother, or first cousin of Osama bin Laden. Osama had dozens of close relatives in the same age range. We did not have a sample of Osama bin Laden’s DNA; we had DNA only from known relatives, so the DNA “match” was only to the bin Laden family. I believe that bin Laden deliberately was shot in the face to obscure the differences between the victim and Osama bin Laden. The body was dumped at sea to prevent a forensic examination.
Propaganda about Obama’s anti-terrorism actions will continue until the election and will be received favorably by a large portion of voters. The facts that many of Obama’s actions are illegal and unconstitutional will receive little publicity, and dozens of opinion pieces will explain to us why the actions were necessary and why they really weren’t illegal.
Nixon’s supporters’ error was getting carried away with their opposition research, an extremely minor matter… and then trying to cover their tracks. They suspected some DNC staffers hiring prostitutes and such, and maybe some spending of donations for personal purposes.
Yes, everyone knew, and many hoped, that the Obummer admin, was doing something effective to thwart the Iranian regime’s efforts to obtain or develop nuclear weapons and means to deliver them. But very few knew what sorts of things they were doing. Many were anxious that they haven’t seemed to have been trying very hard (just as they have intentionally refused to try at all to discourage illegal immigration and trim back legal immigration and guest-workers and student visas back to something resembling sane levels).
The worst aspect of the intentional leaks is that they subvert US security, by revealing specific methods, the people involved, etc. But the Obummer is out of the bag, and perhaps US citizens will keep that in mind on November 6.
I doubt BO will lose a single vote over this. Those who want or need to believe will need more than this to shake their faith. Just as I cannot understand how anybody in their right mind could have fallen for Hitler I cannot understand how anyone could have fallen for anything as absurd as Obama. But once a believer only a very great trauma will shake the faith.
BTW how many Obama supporters do you suppose are even aware that this scandal is taking place?
For most of his unthinking supporters (the young, the dependent, the short-sighted or politically oblivious), this story wouldn’t make any difference, so even if they are aware of it, it has no impact in the count of “votes for” in November for that group.
But for many liberals (especially the ones that pay attention to politics) that are (were?) still supportive of Obama, I think they are well aware of these leaks and have a similar reaction that many Independents & Conservatives have had – shock, shame, and anger.
The release of this level of detail on these types of operations is nothing short of appalling. This gives rise to the shame – as we know why the information appeared now – of seeing (for those who had not seen before) what a small man this President really is, and anger at the thought our national security, and thus ultimately, the safety of our citizens, means so little to this despicable man.
This story will grow legs as long as those of Watergate.
Should I envy your optimism? I suspect the story is already disappearing from the MSM even where it was ever mentioned. We’ll see if the story grows legs I guess, but remember when Obama tried to replace a pro-American democracy in Honduras with a leftist tyrant? It was indisputable proof of his preference for tyranny over freedom and his demented worldview. He should have been impeached then and there, congressmen and pundits should have been screaming for his head; yet the whole thing was ignored.
Recall that Obama was elected primarily because he was sexy. His performance in the 2008 campaign and resume provided ample evidence that he was neither principled, wise or even sane. I suspect anyone capable of changing their mind about Obama in light of his actual behavior as opposed to his appearance did so long ago. Securitygate may reinforce some opinions but I doubt it will change many. Now if he were to become fat and lose his hair I think he would lose significant support, no longer sexy you see.
“Securitygate may reinforce some opinions but I doubt it will change many. Now if he were to become fat and lose his hair I think he would lose significant support, no longer sexy you see.”
Quite an indictment of our citizenry.
I think you don’t give enough credit to the American voter. Sexy is fine, and it that’s what you believe got him elected in 2008, great. (But I think you’re over-simplifying.)
In any case, sexy or not, for a 20-something who can’t find a job, if that young person still living with mom & dad doesn’t think Obama has done what he promised (and he has not), they’ll just stay home. On the other hand, they may actually get up the gumption to go and vote for a real change – someone who knows what they’re doing. But the least likely scenario is expecting them to move in lock-step with the democrat party & turn out in big numbers for oBummer – that is a pure fantasy.
If that viewpoint makes me an optimist (as if there’s something wrong with optimism), so be it.
This is worse and more damaging than Carter trying to save his presidency by revealing the stealth bomber program.
1. The pakastani doctor who helped us get bin laden is now in prison, and possibly tortured, because he helped our country, and was betrayed by bigmouth boobs in the administration, leaking for political gain.
2. Our top mole in al quaida, who helped us foil a new terror plot, who came close to being caught, and now has his life in danger forever, because he was betrayed by bigmouth boobs in the administration, leaking for political gain.
3. The iran stuxnet operation, now destroyed and compromised, and people in Iran who may have helped with it are now endangered, because they were betrayed by bigmouth boobs in the administration, leaking for political gain.
4. Some of our best allies in the war on terror, and future sources we may try to recruit in the future, now may no longer want to work with us, forever destroying our effectiveness in the war on terror, because they were betrayed by bigmouth boobs in the administration, leaking for political gain.
5. A US border patrol agent murdered, and hundreds of mexicans murdered, because this administration purposely gave guns to vicious drug gangs in mexico, and now stonewall congressional committees trying to find out who was responsible.
These horible scandals, whether done by gross incompetance, or for political gain, have helped destroy our country. And worse yet, have led to innocent deaths of courageous people. This administration is rife with incompetant traitors with innocent blood on their hands, and that blood cries out for justice. I doubt if we can ever bring justice to these traitors, such insects usually esacape through either coverup or pardon. But what we can do is end the term of the chief of these traitors, Obama, so at least they can no longer damage our country.
Anybody who can dare defend this disgusting administration, after these deplorable scandalls, is either lying through their teeth, for political gain, or has been drinking the kool aid, and are completely deluded. I cant wait for november, when this abomination, Obama, finally pays for these, and many other deeds, and finally loses his job.
All this exemplifies the desperation that is overcoming the Obama camp. Mittens Romney was assumed to be a poor candidate but now it’s clear this is not the case. You will be surprised by the “silent majority” in November.
I think the release of this information will backfire on Obama, badly.
I’m not referring to potential legal consequences at some future date. “Securitygate” may end up costing him another term, because everyone knows he authorized the release of this intel in these stories. And everyone knows why. Does he not comprehend how WEAK and DESPERATE that reason makes him look to the average person?
Although he doesn’t realize it (Obama, even after 3.5 years as President of this country, appears to have NO KNOWLEDGE or UNDERSTANDING of the American character), whatever “favorable” impression might have existed for a brief moment at the revelation it was Obama directing these efforts against terrorists, it would have been almost immediately buried under the embarrassment of realizing WHY these stories appeared 5 months out from the election.
And, upon further reflection, a sense of shame and anger would arise too, as the realization hit of just how damaging the release of this information was to those efforts in the war against Al Qaeda and how little need there was for American citizens to possess this level of detail on these operations. Did having this information make the person feel any safer? On the contrary. For the recognition of the (justifiable?) anger the Pakistani government would know and the use they and our enemies in Iran would make of this information, a person would be much more likely to feel quite remarkably LESS SAFE.
For thinking liberals and those (few) Independents that might have still been supportive of Obama, this, I imagine, was the sequence.
The only people Obama may have ended up creating a favorable impression in are those voters already “in the bag” for him (those too young or too dependent or too short-sighted to be anything else).
So, a sitting President has chosen to seriously compromise our national security in the hopes of garnering a few votes.
This man is so amazingly foolish as to leave one speechless.
Mr. President, you gained nothing.
And you have lost big-time: credibility, deniability, respect, trust, support.
I can dispute your statement that Obama does not understand the American character. That statement may have been true of the America in the 1950s but the American character today is in large part hedonistic and immature. How else to explain his election in the first place. His background should have relegated him to fringe candidate, along with and among the flat earthers.
If my analysis is correct his re-election may be the best thing for America. He’ll wreck the economy and our security leading to depression and war. It will build the national character. That should be his campaign slogan: depression, war, character, Obama.
My goodness, Bob, but you are a cheerful character.
I’m of the mindset it is not ALWAYS necessary to first tear-down a society completely in order to rid ourselves of the rottenness present in parts of it. Selected portions are rotten & corrupt, yes. The whole structure? No. Our foundation is still solid.
There are several creaky 20th-century constructs that do need to be demolished (The Dept of Education and all its satellite fiefdoms throughout the nation being the first on my personal list), but our foundation is strong and our problems are solvable. And we will solve them – with the right leadership in the Executive and Legislative branches of our national government.
Do you remember the national mood after 9-11? Do you remember the people on Flight 93 ?
The rest of the world thinks we’re soft. Well, they are wrong.
We Americans, we – the United States of America (which is us, The People) -, we are not done yet. Not by a very long shot.
I think Obama’s motives are easy to understand. He was born a Muslim and his “conversion” to Christianity is unconvincing. (If it really was convincing he would be an apostate, and therefore a type of outlaw under a death sentence.)
http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/05/mystery_religion_mr_obamas_contradictory_conversions_to_christianity.html
He has to let the Americans know he is on their side and he has to let the Muslims know he is on their side. Therefore he goes out of his way to advertise his anti Al Queda acts to the Americans and he makes sure the Moslems see it is only Al Queada, the Taliban and Gaddafi who are at risk from him. Most of the Moslems sympathise with the USA for getting revenge on the Taliban, Al Queda and Gaddafi. He has to be sensitive to the religion issue because he is playing both sides of the fence. If the nation’s security and safety are put at risk he can always pretend it is a small price to pay for him keeping a great secret.
Never mind the cyber war, let’s talk about the hardware.
Obama has also made sure that our enemies are in possession of one of our most secret helicopters which was left behind after the Bin Laden raid. Bin Laden could have been just as easily killed by a smart bomb but then Obama would not have been able to do his little victory dance. Instead he decided to risk our personnel and our secret technology for his own political gain.
He also made sure that the Iranians are in possession of one of our Predator drones by failing to order a strike on the site where it crashed.
Good job Barry.
“A Hollywood scriptwriter could have done Obama the “paradox” no better: ruthlessly sensitive, decisively reflective, and tragically underappreciated.”
Or rather, he’s brooding and complex, requiring kid glove treatment and a nuanced understanding. Everything has a double–no, TRIPLE–entendre. Your Mr. Obama truly is America’s Alpha Metrosexual and High Pseudo-Sophisticate.
Please pass the Grey Poupon and the arugula.
….permit me to add to your,..”Obama truly is America’s Alpha Metrosexual and High Pseudo-Sophisticate.”….
Obama is truly the arriviste, and very unaccustomed to all of that. His behavior and total lack of useful background shows itself…..to our Nation’s embarrassment and threat.

Leaking critical military secrets to the press has a long and honored tradition among Democrats. Read the story of Congressman Andrew Jackson May.

Over the years scholars have been fascinated by the OSS psychological profile of the Fascist dictator and founder of the nazi party, leader of the Third Reich and suicide victim, Adolph Schicklgruber. The Boys From Brazil are suspect. The Federal Security Service, must release this soon to be best seller. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to read the profile the Russian Federation has assembled on the “present Leader.” It must be pretty good, or bad however you look at it. It is a forgone conclusion Putin is a scumbag, and he looks down on present leader. Our leaders are are an assembly of weasels run by something lower than a scumbag.
It may well be time to let this thread expire, but I will point out that no one had a response for this one. I have changed the wording slightly.

I guess it depends in part on the ideology. Is someone pathological for believing in personal liberty based on limited government? Is fiscal sobriety somehow ideological? What we need to do is educate our children to discriminate on the basis of character.
Dwight
I won’t argue that there is a general truth somewhere in your generalization, but what you apparently won’t do is frame it in a context of a world with huge populations, and easy communication and transportation between billions, where virtually everywhere is becoming more SOCIAL and government-affected. That is the Democrats’ truth. You dream of a country of 300+ million Americans going back to exactly what period in our history? Anywhere post the Great Society, post the New Deal, post Woodrow Wilson, post Lincoln? Each of those Presidents oversaw massive expansion of government.
I can understand a mantra of less government rather than more, but the surge of history is moving toward MORE, so it is a question of where you want to make your stand. The river is continually flowing toward more government. I’m not sure whether you want to build a dam or blow up the Hoover dam.
China has taken huge steps toward open markets, the Soviet Union collapsed, the Eurozone is on the brink, Castro is old, Chavez has cancer…
These things tend to go in cycles. Government control leads to stagnation, paralysis and collapse (often followed by conquest). If lucky, a few centuries later the society finds renewed vigor and individuals begin to create and explore again. Prosperity and expansion follows, and later, government grows to try and manage the changes. Soon management becomes an end in itself and stagnation sets in again…
We seek to bypass the centuries of stagnation that your kind embraces. America has transformed the world for the better, and if we strive for it, another American Renaissance lies ahead.
An ever larger and more top heavy government means an increasingly inefficient sclerotic society. You need to distribute control to a lower level to improve the response to feedback. Why can’t North Korea feed itself, how did it come about that so many starved to death in the one of the places on earth to grow food, the Ukraine under Stalin? It is no accident that many of the great contributions of Chinese culture came during the period of intense competition between warring kingdoms and before the great joining of governments.
Freedom means freedom of thought and freedom to act. A free man knows how to respond. The future will belong to those who know how to balance a local response with a national agenda. And it will belong to realize that the national agenda should be to maximize local benefit. That is because it is only the little guys at the sharp end who can tell you how things are doing.
“Your kind?” It might just be me, but I sense that when one takes a view different from the party line here, they get pegged as small c communist, a soul facing damnation, or just a certain “kind.” Is that just rhetoric? Is a person who has worked at a government job, in my case teaching, really a different “kind” than some other cohort? Could be, but we work, we play, we love our children, pick a certain sports team, work at our gardens, pay our taxes yada, yada. I am not boo-hooing about this, just noting the reflex to turn an opponent into an “other.” It makes for certain stimulation, even entertainment, but seems unreal. Just saying.
Ask the math teacher where you work about set theory. You are a subset of the Human set. You intersect with other Humans of that set. That is all ‘kind’ means. Think ‘type’.
Considering how many subsets of the Human set there are, it is probable that you have your own unique set of intersections.
That is indisputably true, but I think that “your kind” blurred the subset, or expanded it with at least some malicious aforethought. However, “your kind” is still much more civil than some responses thrown out here. Katie Schaide (sp?) touched the third rail of “family values” and got called some really nasty names. Fortunately she also had plenty of people defending her right to say it.
Do you ever step back and actually look at what you are doing here Dwight. Week after week?
I certainly could question the amount of time I spend here, but there is something about the over-the-top responses of so many people here that evokes responses from me. I have always tended to challenge the strong opinions of folks, be they liberal or conservative. You can win a lot of bets if you challenge people to a bet and also demand heavy odds, given the level of certainty with which they speak. So many people beleeve that they know the truth and that their opinion is correct. I know that I don’t know, but can see that they really don’t know either. Occasionally I learn some useful things, certainly how people think, but also from people’s life experiences, especially on the less political threads. I do know that I am not as angry as many folks here. Life is pretty good; knock on wood.
about sums it up, blockhead
I think many people are missing something important here.
Russians play chess, Americans play checkers. Yeah we “won” the Cold War, but as time passes I beleive it was a phyrric victory. Why? The Soviets seeded agents through out our media, acadamia, and government. They sponsored the peace movements of the 60′s & early 70′s. The seeds are bearing fruit and destroying America from within as intended. We are shifting Left as a nation, especially among the political/legal, academic, and media “elite” and the academic/political elite are further indoctrinating our children through the education system. We are being conditioned to look to Government to solve all our issues from bullying among children to our economic prosperity.
We are being taught to be victims, unless you’re a heterosexual white male then you’re just emasculated and told you’re the evil oppressor and the fount of all of histories atrocities. The largest, most productive segment of population and the largest pool of potential soldiers has been targeted specifically to weaken the nation economically and militarily.
The USA as it was is finished, sad as it is to say. We’ve got maybe one more generation, less if Obama gets re-elected, before we see a radical change in government. Either we’ll see our govenrment evolve into a Totalitarian Socialist regime or we’ll have a civil war, perhaps both.
Where was your logghorrheic outrage when President George W Bush spent the six weeks prior to 9/11 on vacation ostensibly formulating his “stem cell” policy?
Victor, I can feel the fuel blazing anger with which you write this piece. Americans are also angry at the hideous cavalier manner Obama has degraded our national security. I feel it would be and act of treason to cast a vote for Obama. His open mike moment with Russian President Medived to pass on to Putin scares me more than ever for Americas safety.
You did not mention Fast and Furious where hundreds of Mexicans were gunned down and 2 Federal Agent murdered and it goes right to the White House. We have a criminal operation running America. God save us. If he was the Manchurian candidate he could have not done more damage to our country and the world.
What does this mean?
”The Nobel Peace Prize 2009 was awarded to Barack H. Obama “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”.”
