Barack Obama has done the United States a great, though unforeseen, favor. He has brought to light, as no one else could, many of the pernicious assumptions of our culture from the last half-century. He turned theory and “what ifs” into fact for all America to see, experience, and, yes, suffer through.
The Years of Wandering…
Jimmy Carter tried to enact the therapeutic agenda, but he was inept. Liberals for the last thirty years blamed his failure on incompetence rather than his statist message. Until the Obama meltdown, progressives had faulted Bill Clinton as a wily sell-out who had won an improbable second term only by cynically reforming welfare and balancing budgets. Dick Morris engineered his comeback and now he works for Fox News: enough said. So the complaint was that the messenger was slick, but the noble message was diluted.
But Obama was supposed to be Clintonian in his political charisma and Carteresque in his devotion to liberal causes. When he boasted that he was “The One” we had been waiting for, he was more accurate than he thought in assessing liberal sentiment. You see, as a young, post-racial, first African-American president — glib, hip, cool, charismatic, with unapologetic Chicago hard-core leftist roots and Ivy League certification — Barack Obama was right out of liberal central casting. He would do what no other liberal had done in fifty years: prove to America that it really, really was left-of-center by ramming down its throat both a liberal agenda and thousands of left-wing facilitators. Greek columns, the Victory Monument, talk of a cooling planet, and worry whether the country would survive from December 2008 to January 2009 heralded His coming. We forget now that Obama arrived with a super-majority in the Senate, and a large majority in the House: anything was now possible and almost everything was thus tried.
Home at Last
At last we sheep got the messianic prophet to deliver the divine message. When he was declared a “god,” with supernatural powers that sent tingles up journalists’ legs, we were at last to climb the mount into the Promised Land. Electing him was the trick; simply enacting his redistributive agenda would be easy. “Wealthy” people would keep on working as before (they are by nature greedy and love working to buy superfluous things), but now the people’s money could be at last directed to saving the planet, helping mankind, and bringing heaven to earth.
Leading from Behind
I don’t think another president will ask the Arab League and the UN — but not the U.S. Congress — whether he can lead from behind France and Britain in bombing an Arab oil exporter on behalf of “rebels” who promise Sharia Law. “Putting light” between America and Israel earned us this week’s charade at the UN, and a new Middle East war on the horizon in the manner of 1967 or 1973, but this time with new enemies on the periphery like Iran, Turkey, and Pakistan in addition to a hostile Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. “Reset” won’t be used any more, and the idea that friends like Britain, Israel, Eastern Europe, etc. were to be shunned while rivals and enemies like the Palestinians, Russia, and the Latin American communists were to be courted is over also. Friends are friends for a reason, and enemies the same — regardless of what Obama learned at Chicago and Harvard.
Buffetism
After $5 trillion in borrowing and 9.1% unemployment, Keynesian economics has been slain by Obama. Oh, Obama may crisscross the country demanding just one more chance to borrow another half-trillion to “grow jobs,” but no one is listening any more. “Shovel ready,” “stimulus,” “investments,” and “infrastructure” simply have been redefined by Obama as euphemisms for wasteful borrowing. I doubt they will regain currency for a decade or so. And thanks to Obama, a billion is now a passé noun, and trillion has been reduced to the status of monopoly money. Poor Warren Buffett, calling for higher taxes on himself, as his companies and foundations seek to avoid existing taxes, learned too late the wages of signing up with the Obama redistribution plan, which is essentially an alliance of the super- and exempt rich and subsidized classes on the upper-middle-class private sector.
The old welfare state after Obama will soon be addressed as never before. With almost 50 million on food stamps, and record numbers on new extended unemployment insurance, with Medicare and Social Security nearly insolvent, the Obama boilerplate remedies of making “millionaires and billionaires,” “corporate jet owners,” and “fat cat bankers” pay their fair share won’t nearly be enough. Obama demagogued the “fair share” issue to the death, and it cannot be demagogued much longer since the money is about gone.
Now Obama wants new taxes on those who make over $200,000. But unlike the Gingrich/Clinton budget deal of the 1990s, a return to those higher rates will not solve the debt crisis. Obama got us well beyond that. It is merely the opening salvo in taking far more, in a path that leads to the scene in Doctor Zhivago where the old enemy-of-the-people house is subdivided for more deserving families. Obama’s one idea of redistribution does not work, as we see the world over, from the fall of the Soviet system to the collapse of the EU to the implosion of blue-state America. The more Obama says it does in teleprompted eloquence, the more the proverbial people grow terrified of it.
The American National Health Service
For much of the 1950s and 1960s, we were told that we lacked a British-style National Health Service, thanks to all sorts of devilish AMA conspiracies. JFK, LBJ, and Carter could not get passed what we all secretly were supposed to have craved. Hillarycare failed. But Obama alone brought us federalized health care, a trillion-dollar borrowing plan that will supposedly streamline care, save us trillions in the long term, and cost less in the here and now, as state GS-20 doctors attend to us, in DMV lines, far better than their greedy counterparts. Despite all the noble lies, no one believes that. After 2012, ObamaCare will be repealed in short order, and there will be no more fantasies about economical cradle-to-grave health care denied us by conspiratorial doctors and greedy insurers.

Obama as a dose of caster oil. Well, old remedies might be best when we’re as sick as we are. Tough to swallow, though.
We have met the enema, and his name is Obama. =^[.]^=
King Putt and his ilk are driving us off the cliff in a Maserati; McCain and the RINO’s in a Model A. Same destination, different speed.
Obama did us a service, but look at the cost. G-d help us.
How true. Now if only we can come up with someone in 2012 that is not a leftist, not a RINO, not an academic elitist and not a career politician from a wealthy family…but understands politics, has a track record of standing up against lobbyists, has actually worked for a living and paid taxes, believes in traditional American values like hard work and self reliance and understands the difference between right and wrong, we might be able to pull our country out of the toilet. But wait, we do! Hint: her initials are S.P.

Up until labor day I agreed with you 100%. Sadly, the train has left the station and She was not onboard. All she can do now is join a long line of would be spoilers.
Prudence and common sense require a study of the strengths, weaknesses and electability of the announced candidates. Then choose. An endless stream of Romney Stoppers is not the way to save the nation. Give the man a fair hearing and decide for yourself who is most like to rid the Marxist from the scene in
2012.
For which chance to assess any candidate who comes forward to guide- in caps GUIDE- America as self-governing by representation responsive to the CONSENT of the citizens instead of self-selected and replicating royal court, WE MUST ALL THANK the creators of that instrument of freedom the INTERNET. Ain’t private enterprise wonderful?
If only Americans stop watching establishment TV “news” and punditry, and paying for Hollywood films produced by their shills or listening to “elite” academic “experts” who all gave us, and watch gleefully, this Pied Piper /New Kennedy/Messiah to LEAD us into the abyss, we might have a chance.
Americans have proved again and again AND AGAIN there is a reason AMERICANS have been (are they still?) the example for persons who want to “live free or die”.
You have a far better option for all of those things with Ron Paul. Too bad the majority of Republicans are all for continuing to let the Fed steal from us with inflation and warmongering in the Middle East.
mt:
You are probably right. The tiny problem we have thought, as I’m sure you know, he cannot be nominated and even if he could be he could not be elected.
There are wishes and fishes and then there is reality.
Ron Paul? He’s been running since 1988.
He’s not even worth a protest vote anymore.
Ron Paul is not the answer. Being president is about more than domestic policy. While I would welcome his determination to down size DC, and many of his domestic initiatives, he would be a total disaster on foreign policy. Yes Ron, Iran is a problem and they want a bomb.
God is spelled GOD .. not G-d!

I note that many of the comments are looking for a presidential candidate who is the non-Obama. Here is something that everyone can do before the 2012 election: http://clarespark.com/2011/02/11/undoing-multiculturalism/. It might even raise your morale. The racialist policy has been supported by political elites in both Democratic and Republican administrations since the mid-1960s. Each one of us can address schooling and restore the notion of the individual as the unit of value, not racial or ethnic groups.
A *bit* of good news. Ms. Spark. A few yrs. ago at age 50 I returned to finish my degree at a prestigious univ. in Denver. To fulfill part of my arts & humanities elective requirements, the only class I could find that fit w/the rest of my schedule was something called, “The Multicultural Individual”. Oh yes, it was as bad as everyone’s imagining. Now, I believe for as long as I’ve been capable of understanding, I have tried never to “judge” a person due to whatever (now special interest) group they belong to. However, by the end of this course, I’d been set straight, so to speak. No matter what issue I tried to address, it ALWAYS came back to racism — and my “unspoken white skin privledge.” Simply because I was white, I was bad, wrong, greedy capitalist, homophobic (what’s that got to do w/multiculturalsim?), and on and on. Even when I pointed out that the class AND prof. ganging up on me showed prejudice, spec. “ageism”, I thought it helped not at all … until the end of class. That last day the prof. eagerly asked the class opinion: “Shouldn’t we have a class like this be *mandatory* for graduation?” There was a stunned silence, until one by one dissenting voices made themselves heard, and not necessairly in p.c. terms, either. I didn’t need to say anything. It only took me speaking up one time, assertively as opposed to aggressively, to unleash common sense in the younger generation.
I took great heart from that day, and believe we all can. This is America, greatest country in the world, and it’s not too late.
Very true. I have been amazed at how much difference one person speaking common sense can make. It may take a while sometimes, but the key is as you say, to “assertive but not aggressive”.
The great divider has ruled for three years. America won’t be sold a bill of goods again for many years…although “there’s a sucker born every minute”
We’ll see.
I don’t see a shred of evidence that these thugs intend to go quietly into the night. They and the architects who laid out their evil dream generations ago have undermined this country for decades before siezing power under a total lie and behind a total fraud. They won’t crawl back into their sewers without a monumental fight.
Our side better get ready for a battle royal. Why we are squabbling over a vaccine and the only nearly solvent program (SS) in the statist house of cards is beyond me.
The fight will be in the streets within a few months, and it will be about the totalitarian state, nothing else.
Casto oil is a good analogy but I always think of that as helping a sick person recover.. I think the situation that America is in is more like an alcoholic who refuses to admit he/she has an issue. Drink (spend) some more and feel good. And it works until you crash. Let’s hope America’s crash isn’t too late befor She wakes up..
Because of everything you say here, BHO will be joining his many other pals under the bus before long. Leftism/statism and failed ideologies cannot be the problem, it must be the messenger, therefore, this messenger gets tire tracks, and search will be on for a new clarion voice.
I suspect the Dems will throw The Won under that bus and toss the bone to Hillary. If so, then while voters might think they’re rectifying Professor Hansen’s lengthly list of failures they’ll buy the scenery changes and ignore the decades-old Democrat script. Dems have more at stake than sticking with Obama and they know it.
Dumping Obama means that the Democrats will fracture the black vote. They won’t be voting for the Republican, but a lot of them won’t be voting at all. Consider the impact on the Senate elections as well as the presidential election if black turnout falls to 85% of 2004. What if it falls to 70% or less? Even were he so disposed, do you think that Obama could choose not to seek reelection, without the black voters reacting as if he was dumped? I do not.
In 2008, I spent some time in a black church. I am unable to describe degree of self identification that black voters had with Obama and his campaign. While his poll numbers among black voters are down from his peak, were he to be pushed out these voters would react at a visceral and personal level. The result would be the utter alienation of a large subset of the most loyal democrat voting bloc. It might even be possible that they would be so disgusted that they would actually assess Republican policies for themselves.
Democrat party strategists take the long view as do progressives. Rather than destroy their party for the next thirty years, they will do their best to win with Obama and minimize legislative losses, and play defense in the Senate for two years. If the Republicans stumble and Obama manages a win they’ll take it but their eyes are on 2014 and 2016 at this point.
Some good points but also some speculation. True, the Dems can’t survive major campaigns without black support, but that depends on where the campaigns are (I can’t say “races” because that would be racist, right?). But what if the Dems sit out the debate on entitlement reform or phrase their position to attract millions of voters who want entitlements reduced? Dems know The Won’s slipping among blacks so it could be they’d be willing to sacrifice some black voters to fish in a bigger pond. Who knows? There might be backroom knife fights in which Dems convince The Won the game’s up and they give him a graceful exit strategy.
With politics any shift is possible, but my point is that it would not just be “sacrificing some black voters” . The impact on black voting patterns would be disrupted for many elections, not just 2012. Near monolithic support by black voters is a structural imperative for the modern Democrat party. Losing it would be devastating to them for a long time. “Fishing in a larger pool” has some merit, but there a party get transient support, not a bloc of voters that you can rely on in every election.
No back room knife fight that removes Obama from the ticket, no matter how graciously presented in public, can avoid a backlash among black voters. There is also no chance that such deal would not be public knowledge with in days.
We are Reconquering the Southwest…and you gringos can’t stop us. Our population is rapidly growing, and the gringo population is aging and declining. We are over 50 million and united. You are down to 63.7% and extremely divided…and will be a minority by 2041. We are already a majority of the population under 18 in Alta California, Tejas, Nuevo Mexico and Arizona… and are rapidly taking over Nevada, Colorado, and Florida.
We are young and vigorous. You gringos are old and tired. We are the future. Your time has passed. We have defeated you without firing a shot. It is too late for you gringos to stop us from taking over the country. Gringos are down to only 53.5% of the population under 18…and a minority of births since 2010. You gringos will soon be a minority, and lose control of your own destiny. We will control who gets elected President. We will DOMINATE Alta California, Tejas, Nuevo Mexico and Arizona…and will be the swing voters in the swing states — Nevada, Colorado, and Florida. Whoever doesn’t do La Raza’s bidding will be thrown out of office.
We have Reconquered the Southwest from you gringos without firing a shot. Don’t you see that we have defeated you? You have no leaders, no hope, no future. You gringos will soon pay the price for your sins against us. The 21st century will undo and reverse the 19th century. La Reconquista is almost complete. It is only a matter of time. We are nearly there. In a few years it will all be over for you gringos.
Do you understand that we are CONQUERING this country right now right in front of your eyes, in broad daylight, without a shot being fired? Do you understand that we are CONQUERING America right now…and that your leaders are like the American Indian chiefs who sold their tribes out for bottles of Kickapoo Joy Juice and some repeating rifles…
We have already RECONQUERED the entire Southwest — Alta California, Tejas, Nuevo Mexico, and Arizona. We will soon have control of Nevada, Colorado, Florida, and Utah. After that, we will proceed to invade, conquer, and colonize the entire country. We are repopulating the country. We will eventually drive all you gringos out of the country, to Canada, back to Europe, to Mars, whatever, just get the hell out of this country because we’re taking over, and we don’t want you racist gringos here. We will drive you gringos out of here as sure as I’m standing here.
We have CONQUERED you without firing a shot. La Raza is 50 million strong…and by 2050 we will be 135 million concentrated in the Southwest that borders Mexico. La Reconquista is almost comnplete. We are taking back the Southwest, the land that you gringos stole from us in the 19th century. Demographics Is Destiny. We are repopulating the country. It is all over for you gringos. By 2041 you gringos will be a minority. A minority that is aging, shrinking and dying. By 2050 we will be 135 million strong, about 30% of the population, an overwhelming majority in the Southwest — and an even greater percentage of children. We will soon be an outright majority.
The Gringo’s world is ending… Not with a bang but a whimper.
The Gringo is going gentle into that good night… Don’t rage against the dying of the Gringo’s light.
Por La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada.
Can have two burrito’s and two coroná’s to go please?
“They got a few flies in the pulque, but not too many”
If you are going to keep pasting this over and over again, you could at least correct the grammar errors.
But that would mean he/she/it would have to do more than copy and paste, i.e. make an actual conscious effort. By copying and pasting the same old tired screed every time Prof. Hanson posts a new entry, La Raza’s repetitive response stands as a case study in utter idiocy.
– moderator?
Why does Pajamas Media allow this daily graffiti?
These absurd, inauthentic posts violate Rule 2 of your own guidelines.
Doctor Hanson mentions NOTHING about illegal immigration in this week’s blog.
“Work&Days” is the best-written blog you have, it used to have the smartest comments and feedback.
Now we have to slog through this fake “La Raza” Spam and all the posts it elicits by people who think it’s genuine…
La Raza will fade as soon as the next president cuts their funding. Adios, pendejos.
This is one Gringo who truly appreciates your efforts to make a difference in my shabby little country. You’ve done such an excellent job improving lives and providing economic opportunities for the common person in your native land that I think it’s extremely gracious and charitable for you to offer to take over here.
BTW, this moron keeps posting this very same diarrhea time after time. Third time I’ve seen the same drivel. Yawn…
La Raza;
I’m glad you showed up. Planting you buttwipes where you stand will become standard operating procedure, thanks to your comments.
We have all the evidence we need for our actions from all your posting.
Make our day..
The joke is on you gringo fools. You gringos don’t stand a chance.
You gringos are aging and declining. And we are young and growing rapidly.
We will soon deal with you in an appropriate manner. We are merely waiting for the demographics to continue to progress in our favor — which they are, day by day. A day of reckoning is coming for you gringos.
Por La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada.
Poor La Raza;
You meth is making you feel like a big shot. Enjoy, pendejo.
– did say today that it wasn’t class warfare, but “simple METH”…
Speak English you ass clown.
How does it feel to have your entire identity be an unwitting parody of fascism?
Indeed. Illiterates who consider indoor plumbing a novelty have much to offer the world. When you take over Silicon Valley, maybe our computers will start to bounce at stoplights.
Copulating nonstop and scattering your genetically inferior spawn on the ground is a strategy that works for rats on a garbage dump. Which is something else I enjoy shooting.
Of course if it gets too bad, I’ll have my legs cut off at the knees, wear a lot of bronzing gel, dye my facial hair black and forget how to read and write. I’ll fit right in.
LMMFAO, Frank.
Computers bouncing at stoplights.
I will remember that and try to credit you.
Frank Booth;
( You have intimate knowledge? )
La Raza sounds like a “stand up” comic in a Nogales strip joint.
I am wondering if the Democratic party or some of it allied organizations are paying folks like this to post on conservative sites? Everything said is so formulaic it can’t be a real person’s rant. And the writer has no idea how to argue logically. Maybe everyone should just ignore this poster to see if he’ll go away when he doesn’t get any attention. Product of our school system in California, maybe? ;-)
Good luck getting past our guns, pussy boy.
Gee, Senor La Raza, should your pink fairy tale ever come true, I’m sure the biggest advantage will be that the same folks that now flee your failed economic model won’t have to walk as far. They’ll be fleeing across the Nevada, Oklahoma, & Louisiana borders to find a better existence as landscape workers in the remnants of this country than they would have in your workers paradise. But I’m sure that the reinstitution of human sacrifices to celebrate your hallowed & superior cultural traditions will be sure to draw big crowds. It might keep the minds of those not in the reeducation camps off their grinding poverty.
You go, guy!
PLEASE STOP FEEDING THIS TROLL. JUST IGNORE HIM!
‘We have Reconquered the Southwest from you gringos without firing a shot.’
Have you been in a Hispanic neighborhood lately? The night is full of gunshots. We aren’t worried about your high birthrate because of your high death rate. You kill yourselves almost as fast as you reproduce. We don’t have to worry about birth control for you; all we have to do is give you an abundant supply of cheap guns. You’ll take care of your growing population for us.
Here is the big kicker. The Hispanics moved here to have a better life. They don’t want the life they have in the barrio. They want to live like the rest of America. This is where you lose. They are not an invading army, they are just good people who want a better life. What’s going to give them a better life, your model of the barrio or America the home of the free and land of opportunity.
Go f*ck yourself.
Wait and see. A day of reckoning is coming for you gringos. We are on the rise, and you are in decline. If you gringos behave like nice little boys and don’t make any trouble, then we will carry out our agenda through peaceful means, mostly. Meaning: In one-man, one-vote democracy the majority rules. We will soon outnumber you, and will vote in a fitting manner. But if you resist in any way, then we may have to resort to other methods… It’s up to you.
Por La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada.
Sounds just like its out of the Communist Manifesto. Do you think that your own people will want to live like that? No, they want the American dream which you can’t provide, only destroy. Your ilk would be voted out as quick as there would be an election. True the leadership would be latino, but they will be American latino. Go suck on that egg.
Such a shame. Haters always need someone to blame for their own ineptness and incompetence. You’d like Bill Ayers and Van Jones.
Do you call yoursefl an American? If so, not to be nasty, are you legally here? If so, one could read your comment as a threat?
You, Mr. are why our country is fractured.
At one time, we were all Americans, of many origins who have come here to make our mark and our living. One for all and all for one, the true ‘magic’ of our civil society. Differences were certainly voiced and debated, but finally we were all Americans. Our Country is by no meand perfect, nor is any other. But when you look at most other countries, they share (generally) one of two ‘marks’: they are either homogenous societies, usually intolerant of ‘foreigners’, or they are balkanized and civility in the society is a premium. America has been different. My suggestion to you is: Let’d keep that difference, it will take tolerance and work, but in the end it is well worth it for all of us.
LaRaza, I’m less than concerned. You’ll all be so busy murdering each other , you’ll not have time to bother us. And, yes, you have a great start going now. Say,while you’re doing all this reconquering, trot on down to Colombia. I’m certain you’d be welcomed with open(ed up) arms.
La Raza;
Why do you have such a nice computer when you have no toilet paper?
I think this is the same guy who calls my local radio station and tells the conservative host in a phony Spanish accent, “We weel take you ahver, we are organized and we are coming,” and it’s supposed to scare me into ramming the next car full of Messicans I see.
I think the same guy also calls up the radio stations and claims to be a Black Stanford student who got in on a 2.4 GPA.
Christ, “La Raza.” We know the score. We don’t need the help of a fabulist.
– the responses sound like a computer program:
I am sad.
Why are you sad?
Because I worry.
Why do you worry?
Endless loop of Lupe.
ok “The Race”. Nice racist rant. Crawl back into your hole. This country is about embracing, accepting, and assimilating other cultures to allow those to pursue life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Dave, this country is not vindicated by immigration and we sure as heck aren’t “about” “embracing, accepting, and assimilating other cultures to allow those to pursue life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
At one point we were about doing what we could to allow AMERICANS to pursue life, liberty, etc. That’s all we should be doing now, though we’ve lost sight of that. The Constitution as it once existed is what defines this country. Immigration was a non issue at the time of our founding.
Nor is there a need for immigration as this point in our history and so it should stop. If we need the occasional medical or engineering specialist, that’s fine.
We are not nursemaid or social worker to every non-American on the planet. Borders exist for a reason. If mass immigration benefited us in the past that is not an argument that it benefits us now, especially not massive illegal immigration from primitive cultures like the Islamic ones. If my house needed a coat of paint right after it was built, that is not proof of the proposition that my house needs to be repainted every week.
You forgot to ask whether I wanted corn or flour tortillas with that menudo.
I am so sick of seeing this same irrelevant diatribe posted in article after article, invariably hijacking the discussion so that you can get the narcissistic attention you crave. I really wish someone would ban you, “La Raza”.
On our own blog, we don’t allow off-topic comments. Most bloggers consider them spam. The comments should be used for discussion of the article and for debating issues that are raised in the article, not for plugging some nasty person’s crazy agenda.
I will make good use of La Raza, you will be my minions. In the meantime, get back to work.
responding in faux la raza—
“you greedy old white man– when la raza is through you will be known as jorge sorosa”
LOL. I take it you never actually talked to any people in the drug trade. We’re all right wing, we don’t care about La Raza or you, and we’d cut your kind down in mass in the streets. And we’re the Mexican side of the drug trade. You’re just a victim or a customer. You couldn’t keep the Mexico the Americans LET you keep. You think you can take our cash flow from US?
I am sure that many of you will be happy to know that my run for the 2060 Democratic Presidential nomination is finally back on track and even, dare I say it at such an early point in my candidacy, acquiring some momentum. The money troubles that plagued the campaign in the beginning have abated somewhat; the money is not exactly pouring in, but the trickle is now a stream of sorts and we have picked up some powerful support. My commitment to raising the refund on all bottles and cans to 75 cents from one end of this our Great Republic to the other has garnered a good sized chunk of the homeless and mentally ill vote, and the good thing about having them on your side is that they are always available, except when they have to line up for their meds at the outpatient clinic, and that five people with multiple personalities can bring a candidate anywhere up to thirty to forty extra votes on Election Day, and a one man voting bloc is nothing to sneeze at, I can tell you.
My opponents still refuse to debate me, that much has not changed, but I am resisting the urge to go negative yet. There seems little point in my pointing out that my honorable opponents routinely behave in an un-Presidential manner when their mothers, of all people, will do that for me, and in public, no less. I don’t believe that I have ever seen a crop of candidates in any election cycle as psychologically immature and unprepared for high office as this one is. But as I said, now is not the time to go negative, I think. If you start with this sort of thing too early in the election cycle, I’ve found, you tend to turn off the voters, who will always associate you with negativity. This is not a good thing for anyone trying to gain elective office.
I have to say, though, that the thought of going negative now is pretty damn tempting, I can tell you. It’s not just the jejune nature of my fellow candidates, it’s that here we are facing the second half of the 21st century and for reasons I am not sure I fathom the Democratic Party was and is the party of nostalgia. It’s as if the last bright idea any Democrat ever had was the New Deal, and let’s face it, even that wasn’t everything Democrats crack it up to be. Franklin D. Roosevelt did not run in 1932 and 1936 on 54—40 or fight or on Tippecanoe and Tyler too, and yet all anyone ever seems to hear from us Democrats is the same old New Deal programs repackaged for a new generation. We keep appealing to the same old class warfare nostrums without thinking that the same old class of people we aim those nostrums at have picked up and moved on. But we don’t want to hear that, because that would mean having to change the game and we like the game as it is, even if it is way out of date.
Still, there may be hope for these Democratic stalwarts. A new underclass may emerge, although just where we’d find this new set of potential voters is a little hard to figure out. We could convince California and its scads of underprivileged to rejoin the Union, even if more than one cynic has pointed out that back in the day, Baja California didn’t start in Oakland, or we could ask the Mexicans if they would rent Texas back to the United States for a little while. That doesn’t seem very likely to me, though. The reemergence of Mexico as a world power was certainly one of the more surprising developments of the past century and I saw in the New York Times the other day that Russia demanded that Mexico stop its ongoing aggression at the latest meeting of the Security Council. The Mexicans denied that they were committing any aggressive acts against Russia—they always deny their hostile intent, no matter what the circumstances—but this time the Russians had proof: a live satellite feed showing shadowy figures in blue jeans and baseball caps crossing the Bering Sea bridge on foot in the middle of the night. Then the Russians showed many of these same people standing outside a 7—11 in the Siberian city of Yakutsk, waiting for los rusos to come and give them a day job working construction or digging snow in the hot July sun. The tenor of the meeting was definitely hostile, with the Russians claiming that their country was not going to meet the same fate as the Disunited States and the Dominion of Nuestra Senora la Virgen de Guadalupe, which I always think sounds so much better than Canada anyway, even if it’s hard to get all of that on a bottle of ginger ale, and that the Russian armed forces would use force if need be to halt this ongoing attack on the sacred soil of the Rodina. The Mexican ambassador, clearly outraged by these charges, told the Russian ambassador to go chinga a tu madre, cabron and that if the Russians didn’t stop whining like mi vieja and shut the hell up, Mexico would have no choice but to ram the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo up their culos sideways. Clearly, the Mexicans are not in any mood to rent Texas back to the somewhat United States, not when there are fresher fish to fry.
That’s what happens when you wind up on the D-list of nations; no one on the A-list wants to take your phone calls and you wind up talking to some punk kid right out of diplomat school who wants to impress his boss by making you feel like the poor relation asking for a handout. Once upon a time in this country, Mexicans came across the river to work for Americans. In 2060, some Mexicans still come across the river to work, but that traffic is very well—regulated nowadays; it is much harder, though, to stop the traffic in Americans crossing the Mississippi to find work in Mexico. That’s one of the major social and economic problems of our times and none of my opponents want to address the issue, not when they can promise the voters that they won’t have to pay for anything ever again. I’m still not sure how they intend to pay for that; we’ve already sold off the Dakotas, and most of Illinois, as well, and I don’t want to frighten anyone here, but if you live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, you might want to learn Mandarin or Arabic in fairly short order. Just giving you guys the heads up. Have a nice day.
Apparently, the thieves who steal from VDH and his neighbors have learned how to use the internet and post meaningless drivel in order to continue their theiving ways. In this instance, it is space on a blog and precious time spent by the few, including me, who bother to read their idiotic rants. Last time I bother to read or respond to any of their trash heap commentary.
Senor La Raza,
Oh, wait… Aztlan will be a paradise, just like Mexico or those neighborhoods in East LA, right? Is that correct? I think that once you’ve taken over, you’ll still have to sneak into the nearest Gringo-run region to find work or political stability.
Silly.
Oh, and speaking of “Aztlan,” why does “La Raza” insist on calling it that? We Aztecs, for which it was named, left that area a thousand years ago. If we didn’t want it, why would La Raza?
Yes, and then you can turn America into the shining civilizational apex that is Latin America. Your culture has had as long to turn Central and South America into somewhere you want to live as the U.S. has had. Where do you want to live? Why? Millions of “Hispanics” in this country know this. Most of them won’t listen to the Hispanic Al Sharptons like you.
So, it’s all going to look like Mexico in 20 years, with shanty towns, slave wages, and massive corruption? Or did you think you could keep what makes America Great, and not become Americans. Just look at what’s happening in California, with the largest share of foreigners in the country. Somehow I just don’t think you losers are ever going to be a threat. eVerify is coming Run Away, Run Away
Fall is almost here, and you really should get some pants on over those whitefronts. Basements can get pretty chilly until Spring. Just a hint El Magnifico.
Hey La Raza STFU and get back to mowing my lawn!
OK, “La Raza,”
After you “reconquer” the SW, will you give it back to the indians YOU stole it from?
Thanks VDH; excellent summary and analysis of the Obama regime.
I do have one question – what will happen to the postmodernist relativist leftists cocooned from reality in academia, those who form a basic support for the socialist ideologies of the Obama regime? Will they atrophy and be replaced, hopefully, by realists rather than sophists?
Such a Tower of Babel, our academic, hopefully anemic, ideologues have become. Preaching from the book of Punishment As Policy, they’ve discredited themselves and in fact have, by their collective and un-diversified abandonment of science and the rigor of scientific method, transmuted it into a more populist crackpot religion for the masses.
but they have one last shot. Israel can be sacrificed as the heretic of the Euro-Western Hemisphere of Academic Absolute Rule™. That ought to put the fear of the lack of god back into them.
“Who blesses Israel I will bless. Who curses Israel I will curse”.
The political tussle is now between the old and the new. Obama, Maxine Waters, Dick Turdin, slumlord Valerie Jarrett, James Hoffa jr. represent the old way. The new way relies on first principles that originated in the republics of Florence and Siena, the roman republic, Solon, and the old testament. And of course, the founders, in 1776. Not Babylon.
ETAB:
“Will they atrophy and be replaced, hopefully, by realists rather than
sophists?”
Will you humor me by answering a few questions? They are not rhetorical but they are puzzling. Can you assure me that religious bigotry plays no part in your comments on this site and others?
1. Do you agree with me that removing Obama from power should be job one for the American people in 2012?
2. Do you think it appropriate for the governor of Texas to circumvent the legislature, cut a deal with Merc Drug Company that dictated that twelve year old girls be innoculated with a vaccine with unknown potential for harm and impose it by executive order on young children? Please don’t denigrate yourself by mentioning the opt out provision. That is too much like an Obamaism.
3. Do you believe the standard bearer for the Republicans should be the man who served as Chairman for the election committee to elect Al Gore?
4. Do you agree with Governor Perry that border jumping Mexicans should be welcomed to Texass and provided with funds to enroll in their colleges?
5. Do you believe it appropriate for the man who would be president, holds a born again prayer meeting at the drop of a hat given what the constitution has to say about the matter?
6. Given the fact that this nation has no money, do you agree with Governor Perry that we as a nation are obligated to and should continue to build schools, hospitals, roads, bridges and sundry other infrastructure in Afghanistan, Pakistan and God knows where else?
7. Do you agree with Governor Perry that it’s not possible to build a fence along the border with Mexico?
8. Do you agree with Governor Perry that Social Security is unconstitutional and should be given to the respective states?
9. Do you disagree with me when I tell you that Rick Perry looks very much like his candidacy will be largely financed by the Bush dynasty as the means to elevate Jeb to the job in four or eight years?
10. Are you being paid by anyone to diminish Mitt Romney and promote Rick Perry and various blogs?
11. Do you agree with me that the scam in not yet over and the hollow man Rick Perry when exposed will lead to the entry into the race of one Chris Christie?
12. Do you think that if Christie does enter the race he will be the final, final, final attempt to stop Mitt Romney? Do you know that your first main main, Tim Pawlenty has joined the Romney campaign. Can I infer from that that you are not always right as you guide the sheep through the political mine fields?
13. Do you think that Rick Perry who appeals to one-third of the Republian-Independant voters at most, would have a snowballs chance in hell of unseating Obama after the union thugs, gays and lesbians, mexicans, blacks, government employees and recipients of housing vouchers, food stamps, refundable tax credits and other sources of free stuff from our benevolent government and threaten that blood will run in the street?
14. Finally, if you are not on some leftists payroll, why are so determined to work against the best qualified, most honorable and decent family man and American who is seeking the republican nomination?
I ask these questions not to insult you ETAB, I ask because you and so many others have apparently set out on a crusade to destroy the best hope the people of this nation have by working against the nomination of Mitt Romney. I simply refuse to believe that there is no one left in this country who can’t be bought if the price is right. I refuse to believe that religious bigotry runs so deep that many are willing to attack the character of a good and decent man. I refuse to believe that the American People collectively are as dumbded down and or corrupt as many commenters appear to be.
I look forward to your thoughtful responses.
Do you and La Raza work out your commenting strategies ahead of time?
Bill Gannon:
I’m a little dense but if i’m reading your comment anywhere near correctly, it’s the stupidist remark i’ve seen yesterday and today. Care to explain the connection with what I said and what La Raza said and has previously had to say?
Sorry for the anonymous bit. Old men somtime punch the wrong button as was the case here.
Heh. At first, I thought you were a Paulista.
I couldn’t care less that Romney’s a Mormon. A political leader’s religious views might influence their thinking, but it’s a far cry from influencing policy in this country. The average Mormon, in my experience, would make a fine leader, in terms of moral and ethical consideration, work ethic, and community spirit (notwithstanding the harder qualifications required of a presidential candidate).
No, I care that Romney is a RINO, a flip-flopper, and the favorite of both the GOP establishment AND the Left wing. He’s way more preferable than Obama, but far from the best choice we have for a candidate. =^[.]^=
Raycheetah:
Most of you Romney bashers are big on aking for “evidence”. Would you care to provide some to support your charges regarding Mitt Romney and the fact that he’s the darling of the establishment?
Oh, goody ! A SPAM contest! Can I play? I wanna answer the questions!
1. Absolutely. If not sooner.
2. Did you download that from the lefty hive-mind or the Alex Jones server? The story is all over the net. Learn to read.
3. A generation ago, Republicans were as rare as hen’s teeth in Texas – or anywhere else in the South. The Democrats of yore counted many Americans among their ranks. The American Democrats became Republicans when fellows like Algore became deranged enviro-commies. In Algore’s case, during the ‘90s.
4. Another case of illiteracy? Students who can show they have been in school in Texas for three years (i.e., in High School), are applying for Citizenship, and have a clean record are allowed to pay the same as Texans. Got that, dipstick? PAY the same as locals. “PAY the same” does NOT equal “being provided with funds. “ Implying that “PAY the same” does equal “being provided with funds “ is pretty much the definition of an Obamaism. And what do you plan to do, send the army in to scoop up several million teenagers, load them on cattle cars and send them to Juarez? Illegal they may be, but that just won’t look good on the 5 o’clock news.
5. No one – but NO ONE – is advocating a theocracy. Only brain-dead lefty true believers think anyone is. Perry is an American Citizen and has a perfect right to his religion. The Constitution forbids a State religion – like the Church of England. It does NOT outlaw any religion YOU don’t approve of. Hell, I’m an atheist, and I don’t give a tinker’s damn what you think about religion.
6. Nope, not a bit. But Perry advocates finishing what the US Government started during the Bush/Obama regime. I don’t agree, but he does have a sense of honoring the country’s word.
7. Good grief! Listen carefully: The border between Texas and Mexico is A RIVER. Perry has stated repeatedly: The Federal Government has abdicated one of its prime Constitutional responsibilities by refusing to defend the border. He has requested Federal assistance. He has advocated adding thousands of Border Patrol and National Guard troops. He has advocated electronic surveillance, including use of PREDATOR DRONES. And you’d rather have a water fence?
8. Yes. It won’t happen of course. Perry has said as much. He advocates allowing young people (the ones being screwed the most by the PONZI SCHEME) to choose private plans. He has mentioned raising the retirement age. Do you have a better idea that doesn’t involve some twenty-something paying all your bills?
9. Now there’s a fantasy. You don’t even need literacy to know the Bushes and Perry don’t get along. Just watch TV. Listen chump, only ‘Progressive” morons have that hysterical Bush fear. Your slip is showing.
10. Slip is showing again. Only a Progressive maroon thinks a difference of opinion is prima facie evidence of bribery.
11. Wow. That was a bunny trail. Not to worry, it was also incoherent!
12. Ya know, Romney is a good chap. He’d make a fine President. He may indeed get the nomination. If he does, I’ll cheerfully vote for him. But you. You are hysterical.
13. Where did you get the idea that “union members, gays and lesbians, mexicans, blacks, government employees and recipients of housing vouchers, food stamps, and refundable tax credits and other sources of free stuff from our benevolent government” are of a single mind? I live in Southern California part of the year and am among a great many Hispanics. Legal American Citizens. You know, the ones that VOTE. They LIKE Perry. And if you don’t want blood to run in the street, why try so hard to incite conflict during the PRIMARY?
14. Again with the bribery. And a cheap shot too.
“I ask these questions not to insult you” Oops. FAIL.
“I simply refuse to believe that there is no one left in this country who can’t be bought if the price is right.” This is relevant to what?
“I refuse to believe that religious bigotry runs so deep that many are willing to attack the character of a good and decent man.” As I said, I’m an atheist. Romney and the Mormons are fine people. Guess what, so are evangelicals, jews, and even Episcopalians. I even met a decent democrat some years back. Some of us want a President that will turn us back from the socialist precipice, and flat don’t care what his religion is. Religious bigotry seems to be YOUR forte.
“I refuse to believe that the American People collectively are as dumbded down and or corrupt as many commenters appear to be.” HOLY CRAP BATMAN! Somebody didn’t agree with YOU? Dumbed down indeed.
“I look forward to your thoughtful responses.” Well, OK then. You directed this to ETAB, not me. Also, my responses are in some cases . . . inflammatory? But then, I just decided to have some fun. This is a fun game.
Repeat after me. Obama OUT. A non-Commie American IN.
As has been stated in the past, an empty paper bag would be a better choice than Obama. You may like Romney better. He’s a good candidate. But all you accomplish by the cheap shot Perry bashing above is to hand the Democrat propaganda machine some ammunition. Knock it off.
CFM:
Congratulations, Barack Obama could not have said it better.
Have you been elevated to serving as the spokesman for ETAB?
Wise up dude, there is more required of a President than strutting around like a Texas cowboy on a stage. George W. Bush proved that in his second term or did you miss that?
Finally, do you believe all that nonsense that Fox News spews out on a daily basis? A feud between Perry and the Bush dynasty? Follow the money deep thinker. Maybe you would like to explain why Karl Rove the Bush Architect, convinced Perry to become a republican after a lifetime of being a dimocrat? Could it possibly be that he might become the big dog for Jeb’s campaign at some future date by controlling the Texas vote and tons of money?
And good luck to you and your family if the Marxist remains in power for the next six years which is all to likely to happen if Governor Perry and his 30% try to take him out. Were you listening when Obama said he would have a 250,000 person army ready to march? Were you listening when Jimmy Hoffa said let’s take it to the streets and get the sons of bitches?
Of course you can do as you wish in these comments but don’t respond for my sake. You won’t convince me that you know what you’re talking about so unless some of the other Perry fans want to join and regurgitate the attacks on Romney and drink some of the Fox brewed kool aide, I’m going to bed.
There is no real difference between Mittens Romney and Obama other than Obama being a public unabashed socialist. Romneycare and Obamacare being case #1. Almost all the rest of the Republicans can beat the socks off of Romney (RonPaul and Huntsman join Romney in the not plausible zone). My objections to Mittens and Huntsman are their politics, track record (or lack thereof) and squishyness. Not their religion.
What does my comment to VDH have to do with the GOP nomination?
CFM has answered a lot of your questions. I’ll answer a few but your comments are so filled with false logic, unquestions assumptions..that it’s hard to respond:
1) I think that removing Obama is a vital agenda. Whether it’s the ‘number one job’ is a false evaluation; one could assign that to the debt, the economy, the..
2) This question is logically invalid; the error is ‘begging the question’; that is, your statement is filled with unproven assumptions that the respondent must actually accept in order to answer your question. I don’t accept all these unproven assumptions.
3) Same thing: filled with unproven assumptions.
4) ‘border jumping Mexicans’ – again, begging the question. Plus, invalid data. As CFM has pointed out, the FACTS are that the student must have lived in the state for 3 years and be applying for citizenship. They can then apply to go to college and pay the same rate as other in-state students. Do you understand? The offer is NOT funding! The offer is, if you live here, and want to educate yourself, you must apply for citizenship..and..you can PAY (got that?) the same arate as other in-state students rather than as a foreigner.
The alternative, to make them pay the rate of foreigners, which can be four times the in-state tuition fees, would set up a CLASS of Texan residents, these young students, who are BARRED by the state from attending college..and from applying for citizenship. Hey, that’s a great hotbed for breeding a criminal economic class. After all, if you deny them the ability to go to school, then..what’s left?
Remember, Perry cannot legally deport them! Only the federal govt can do that, and Obama is refusing to do this. So, Texas is left with the FACTS that these young people are LIVING there; he can’t deport them. And, do you seriously suggest that Perry should allow an underclass to exist, whose members althought they reside in the state, are not allowed to go to college..because they have to pay ‘as if’ they were foreigners..and they can’t do this? What would be the results of setting up such an under-class????
5)Religion is a private business; Perry was holding it as a private citizen. What ‘drop of the hat’?
6)Yes, the world is networked.
7) Fence along the border? Impossible, since most of the border is a river. Don’t you know that? Would you deprive the ranchers of their access to water?
8) SS is unconstitutional for the federal govt, and yes, it should be left to the states, with an inter-state moveable clause.
9) Illogical comment.
10) No, I’m not paid by anyone.
11) Illogical comment. What scam?
12) I like Pawlenty. He supports Romney; that’s his decision. Do you seriously think that because I like Pawlenty, that he should then support the person I support (Perry)? He’s free to support whomever he chooses.
13) Illogical. Filled with ‘begging the question’ errors.
14) How am I working against or for anyone? What crusade? I merely voice my free opinion, as do you.
I’m not against Romney because of ‘religious bigotry’ (yet another false assumption on your part). I’m against him because he flip-flops, because he, in my view, operates primarily in Words, in rhetoric (similar to Obama). I like Perry’s simple bluntness and his focus on hard reality. Romney is too slick and rhetorical.
It’s puzzling why you expect others to accept your choice of candidate. I don’t expect you to accept my choice.
Thanks for the effort ETAB.
When I got my degrees and licenses from the state of California it was after getting an education. At that time, education meant being able to see beyond one’s nose. There is a difference in that and indoctrination.
Some people believe you need evidence to support the finding of a rat. I think that smell sometimes accomplishes the same thing. It is not something that needs to be taken to court.
I’m simply tired of reading this regurgitated tripe about Mitt Romney. If some of you intellectuals want to make a case against him do some work, present his entire record. His life is an open book and amounts to more than Romneycare.
You have been on this tear against him for at least three months. And I don’t dispute the fact that you have many in agreement with you. I have to believe that money and ignorance, unwillingness to examine all the facts about Romney, and then blindly support one candidate after the other when they fail to stop him play some part in the matter. And indeed I do know the definition of ignorance, I don’t pick words out of thin air without purpose.
The last time I looked, polls showed Romney would defeat Obama by a margin of 3 to 6 points. Polls also showed the Perry would lose to the Marxist. Go figure.
My opposition to Mitt Romney has, and always will, harken back to 1994.
Mitt Romney was leading in the polls vs. Ted Kennedy in the Massachusits Senate Race. Things were looking good all over for Republicans, and Mitt was part of that trend.
Then, on bright September day, Newt Gingrich announced a bold and daring plan. It was called “The Contract With America.” A Ten Point plan that Republicans promised to bring to the floor and vote on.
Mitt Romney, in a press conference, was asked about this “Crazy Scheme” that had just been proposed by Republicans.
And how did Mitt Respond?
“That’s the House, I’m running for the Senate,” was his first utterance.
Given the chance to Be Bold, Mitt chose a SAFE answer.
And the farther Mitt distanced himself from the “Contract” the lower he fell in the polls. And on that fatefilled day in November when Sweeping Change took place in the House and Senate, Mitt failed to participate. Because he played to the Media first, and the people second.
Fast forward to his days as Governer of Massachusits. Mitt showed once again that given the opportunity to Be Bold vs. Play it Safe, he would choose Play it Safe. Hence Romneycare.
But he had a Democrat Legislature, you’ll protest.
Reagan had a Democrat controlled House when he passed his first round of Tax Cuts. But Reagan was a Leader, and as a Leader he LED!
Romney has proven to me, by his actions, that he will not lead. What he will do is Manage a Liberal Mess better than a Democrat. He does not have the will nor the desire to confront Democrat Opposition, nor to inspire the people to alter course from the flow of the MSM that will be in full opposition mode for any Republican President.
Marking Time and opening the door for another Democrat to ratchet the Leftist Agenda further in 8 years is not a solution, it’s simply kicking the can (and the trainwreck as well) down the road.
Romney can Manage, he cannot Lead!
I must say, I find your concern about my choice of GOP nominee rather strange. What’s it to you? I don’t object to your support for Romney! It’s your choice.
But for you to accuse me of ‘being on a tear against Romney for 3 months’ is a bit much. There is no requirement for me, or anyone, to agree with your choice. We, who disagree, don’t insist that you go along with us!
Equally, it is untrue that ‘many are in agreement with me’ (my choice of Perry). That is, those who support Perry (and anyone else) have done so of their own free reasoning and will. I’m hardly the ‘basic cause’ that has led them to choose Perry!!
As for your suggestion that a choice for Perry and/or vs Romney, is based on ‘money, ignorance, blind support’ and so on – well, I think that you’d have to provide some evidence of that. I’ve explained to you why I reject Romney and support Perry. Others have given their own views for their choices.
Remember, we all have the power of reasoning, critical analysis..and yes, we are all equally capable of being right. And wrong. But, we do have one agenda: Get rid of Obama.
It’s been done. It’s not even difficult. As you say, it’s an open book. After all, he’s only held ONE elected office, and run just a few campaigns.
So let’s look at his record. What did he ever DO while in that one elected office that wasn’t HARD LEFT? Anything?
Don’t tell me what he SAYS. Tell me about what he’s DONE.
You are right – Romney’s history is an open book.
His book tells the story of an opportunist with no principles who will say anything to get elected.
Oh, by the way, don’t try to pull the Mormon card on me. I lived in Salt Lake. While there I voted for Mormons for national, state, and local office. I would do so again for the right candidate.
Romney’s problem isn’t his professed religion of Mormonism, it’s his actual religion of Romneyism.
I like these things. My answers:
1. No, “removing Obama” isn’t good enough. Job #1 should be electing Sarah Palin.
2. Pfft. If you can opt out, it’s not mandatory. Who cares?
3. Reagan was a Democrat, too. I don’t like Perry but this is a silly attack on him.
4. Loaded question. No on the Mexicans.
5. Prayer is good. I missed the part where the Constitution says it isn’t.
6. There are lots of things I’d cut first.
7. If they can’t live, work, or collect welfare, the fence is unnecessary anyway.
8. Yes, social security is unconstitutional.
9. LOL they can try.
10. No, but I make monthly donations to SarahPAC. I’ll insult Romney (and Perry) for free. Also: paranoid much?
11. Still scratching my head on this one.
12. Mitt Romney is a self-defeating joke candidate. But I agree Christie could eat his breakfast. Beat him for the nomination, too.
13. Perry would beat Obama easily. Any of our candidates would.
14. You mean Herman Cain? He’s okay, but I’m pulling for the best WOMAN in the field.
Note to all you guys and gals: Issues will not determine the Republican nominee, regional cultures will settle this one.
Mitt Romney is Billy Yank. Rick Perry is Johnny Reb. Make that Johnny Rebublican, would you?
Methinks the South has superior logistics these days.
“7. Do you agree with Governor Perry that it’s not possible to build a fence along the border with Mexico?”
Yes, and I base that on what I’ve experienced hiking in the canyons of the Rio Grande and its tributaries, and floating and boating the river and its two large reservoirs. The canyon floors have lots of asphalt chunks among the boulders. Where do you think those come from?
We are destroying your currency and economy. We are setting the stages for a New World Order and One World Government. The nation-state no longer exists. Patriotism and nationalism is dead. There will some pain for some people. Adjustments will have to be made. It will require a whole new mindset. Don’t think of yourself as an American citizen. Think of yourself as a global citizen, a citizen of the world. We are entering a new era in the history of mankind. Those who refuse to join us will cause themselves unnecessary pain and suffering. A New World Order and One World Government is inevitable, just a matter of time. Those who resist will be dealt with… I hope none of you are foolish enough to attempt to resist. Resistance is futile.
Under the guise of free trade we are destroying your manufacturing base, your economy, your currency, and ultimately your sovereignty. Under the guise of all these free trade deals we are erasing your borders, your national identity, your loyalty, we are outsourcing all your manufacturing jobs and destroying the middle class. Your economy is based on nothing. You produce no real wealth. Your economy is a deck of cards which we will collapse when the time is right. We control both political parties. You are peons. You have no power. We control the media, the financial institutions, Wall Street, the corporations, the entertainment industry etc. You are so Balkanized and divided, you will never be able to stand up to us.
The world is changing. Very soon an independent “America” will cease to exist. Get it through your heads. The nation-state is dead. Borders are obsolete. Nationalism is dead. You are not an American citizen. You are a global citizen, a citizen of the world. There is no American economy. There is a global economy. Your system of government is obsolete, irrelevant and inefficient. It will be replaced. Initially, there will be some pain for some people/countries. They will have to adjust to the new way things are done. But long-term things will be much better, much smoother, much more efficient. The world faces many problems, and the only solution is a New World Order and One World Government. We are entering a new period of human history. Those who are stubborn and refuse to join us will cause themselves unnecessary pain and suffering. A New World Order and One World Government is inevitable, just a matter of time. Those who resist will end up in the dustbin of history. Get with the program. Don’t waste your time trying to bring back the olden days. Those days are long gone. That is a good thing.
It is a done deal. We have destroyed America. Soon we will have a New World Order and One World Government — with us in control. It will be impossible for you to fight back. You are so Balkanized and divided, you will never be able to stand up to us. You are on the wrong side of history. You will be swept aside like the detritus you are. Resistance is futile. It’s a done deal. If you’re gonna get raped, you may as well enjoy it…
Jezus loves you too
To the Globalist/La Raza guy-
Why don’t you give it a rest? Your dull shtick of repetitively posting under two different names is neither clever or interesting. One can only guess at whatever personality disorder you must suffer from but I know there must be a sentient person behind your dual identities who deep-down in there has some semblance of dignity left.
Thank you for showing the way to such an enticing future. The hope you hold out for all mankind is inspiring and encouraging. We are very much in your dept for “clueing” us in this way. Without your analysis we would have been blinded by our ignorance. Do you feel better now?
I know. I know the New World Order by a different name: Babylon the Great. And I declare this, before she even arises: “Fallen is Babylon the Great!” The Mother of Harlots is doomed for destruction, she has lost before she has even come to power.
Will we be required to face east and pray five times a day?
What are you, a spambot?
You want to come and confiscate my guns, Mr. Glow-BULL-ist ??
It is a done deal. We have destroyed America. Soon we will have a New World Order and One World Government — with us in control. It will be impossible for you to fight back. You are so Balkanized and divided, you will never be able to stand up to us. You are on the wrong side of history. You will be swept aside like the detritus you are. Resistance is futile. It’s a done deal. If you’re gonna get raped, you may as well enjoy it…
Who are you really……an AMWAY representative!?
The anakyklosis, anyone? VDH, you should read Plato’s Eighth Letter. The plague. The Enlightenment has unleashed the plague. Club Law, baby. We are going to see Western Civilization reduced to a baudy redux of Mad Max.
We are all along for the ride.
The Enlightenment? I assume you’re referring to the French Philosophes, so influential on the French Revolution.
On the other hand, Adam Smith, Sir Walter Scott, and James Watt were of the Scottish Enlightenment. Great influences on the Founding Fathers, especially Franklin.
Google it. I think you’ll find it . . . enlightening.
I am also refering to the FFofA,and all of the Enlightenment in all of its manifestations. The FFofA were nihilists. Any one that rejects the Old Order is a nihilist making the FFofA nihilists.
The Enlightenment was about destroying Christendom, which it did.
Nihilists? The Old Order? Whoa. Guess I mistook you for some one (thing?) else. My bad. Carry on.
(Queue Twilight Zone theme . . .)
It’s great too see you so upbeat, Victor.
VDH is simply outlining the agendas of the Obama regime; these agendas are both reductionist and isolating.
Reductionist, in that the people are reduced to one common denominator in ability, power, and even, results of work. That is, individual merit and hard work does not produce beneficial results in the Obama regime because the regime reduces these results to ensure a similarity in lifestyle in the population regardless of merit and work.
The result of reductionism-to-one-type sets up a two-class political regime where an Elite Set of Rulers has all authority over the mass of The Ruled. We can see such verbiage and agendas of reductionism to a common type and a Supreme Ruler in the posts by La Raza and Globalist.
Isolationist, in that the people, although reduced to one typology, are defined within distinct, essentially hereditary groups (tribalism) which are viewed as innately adversarial to each other. The Rulers set up censorship and Big Brother Watchdogs to prevent interaction between the groups, for dissent and questions and even inter-group interaction, are viewed as dangerous. The Obama Regime’s AttachWatch.com is one example of such censorship.
What this perspective, reductionist to a universal and isolation of types ignores, is that biological and physical and conceptual life doesn’t operate this way. The world, biological, physical and conceptual, is a COMPLEX ADAPTIVE NETWORK. This means that diversity of form and type is a basic necessity in our universe. Then, these diverse forms/types are not isolational but are networked together in various modes of communication, interdependency, sustenance and survival.
If you reduce diversity to a basic common type…you get the ‘heat death’ of the planet. That’s right; universalism of type..reduces the amount of energy available to every unit/being…so, a planet made up of one basic type, controlled by some Elite, just can’t exist. It’s purely imaginary. In reality, it cannot exist for entropic dissipation destroys it.
The Obama regime, with its tribalism, its Elite Rulers, its reduction of the people to one mass, one economic and political type, its rejection of diversity and dissent and questions…is untenable in reality. It’s a purely Imagined Realm – dangerous, because all realms that exist only in the imagination and attempt to become reality…fail. Like Humpty Dumpty…All the King’s horses and all the king’s men, couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty together again.

“I must say, I find your concern about my choice of GOP nominee rather strange. What’s it to you? I don’t object to your support for Romney! It’s your choice.”
Newsflash ETAB. I am not now nor have I ever been a supporter of Mitt Romney for anything. I don’t object to your support for Governor Perry.
My statements here are very clear. I believe that you have displayed a vendetta against the man as you move your support from man to man, Mitch Daniels to Tim Pawlenty and now Rick Perry. And in my opinion the justifications you come up with are not well reasoned if the aim is to defeat Obama in 2012.
I’m disappointed in your response to the questions I asked you to consider in that the tactic of circumlocution replaced straight forward answers. The best news of all is that we do agree on something, we in this nation are still able to have an opinion. I hope that will still be the case in future years.
Vendetta against Romney? How on earth could I do that? All I do on these sites is express my opinion. I haven’t engaged in any overt or covert hostile action against Romney! And, it is, of course, my right to analyze and conclude that I don’t consider him a strong candidate either to beat Obama or as President. I find it strange that you consider my views any more important than that of others who have equally rejected Romney as a viable candidate.
As for answering your questions, as I pointed out, most of them were logically fallacious, i.e., they were almost all ‘petitio principii’ or ‘begging the question’ where you inserted opinions, within your question, that had to be accepted as true, in order to answer your questions. I didn’t accept most of your internal assumptions.
You are right that isolating groups is a key strategy, but the reason for doing so is to make people dependent on the state.
proreason – yes, you are absolutely right about the ‘divide-and-control strategy towards ‘identity groups’.
1. Does anyone think BHO’s tax plan can pass? Did the President think it can pass?
2. Without Carter, there was no Reagan.
Who is our new Reagan?
I don’t think it is Rick Perry.
Throughout, I kept thinking of the line from the Rolling Stones song, “You can’t always get what you want, but you get what you need.”
As miserable, stressful, tiring, worrisome, grueling and uncertain as things are right now, it’s possible that as a country, we’ve learned some powerful lessons as VDH points out.
The questions are: What will we do with these lessons learned? And will we remember them long enough and clearly enough to effect crucial change?
Dr. Hanson, your listing of the effects of the current regime is accurate, albeit it rests on a basic assumption that is itself subject to proof. That a change of administration will be permitted to occur by legal, constitutional, and non-violent means. Given that the rule of law is all but non-existent, both at the Federal and the local level [as you have delineated so well in the past]; I rather believe that the issue is in far greater doubt than most conceive. And that a political, physical, and emotional catharsis, in its original meaning [κάθαρσις] may be a necessary part of any successful implementation of the process of restoring America. Self-proclaimed “elites” do not yield power peacefully while they believe they have the physical means of coercion available.

One can only guess at whatever personality disorder you must suffer from but I know there must be a sentient person behind your dual identities who deep-down in there has some semblance of dignity left.
May I submit that you are assuming two facts, sentience and dignity, that are not yet placed in evidence? And perhaps another, that his/her sentience is at a level that he/she is capable of understanding and rationally comprehending any response given to him/her here. q.v.:

Exactly.
In the fevered-paranoia corners of my mind, I see a great potential for Voldemort attempting to overthrow the Constitutional order come November 2012,
How will he do this? Perhaps he might try to energize social unrest to the point of riots, thereby “requiring” the imposition of Marshall Law and the suspension of elections.
Too many are convinced he is a doofus or an incompetent; but in truth he is succeeding wildly–beyond his or any of our expectations–in fundamentally changing America. He wants America to be literally humbled; humbled economically, socially and temperamentally, just as he “humbled” himself in front of world leaders by bowing whenever he met one.
Like Chavez in Venezuela, or Castro or even more recently Zelaya in Honduras, I dread that he will attempt to subvert our Constitution and seize power. Like the military in Honduras or Atatürk’s Army so many years ago, will Americans be able to rely on the US Military “. . .to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies Foreign and domestic. . .” even when that enemy is the traitor Obama??
Take good care,
Sandy
Ah, the VDH version of ‘whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’. Problem is to make sure it doesn’t kill you…
As a great physicist once said, bad ideas are not replaced by good ideas until enough of the true believers die out.
Charles Mackay, Extraordinary Delusions and the Madness of Crowds–Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly; and one by one.
Nice one doc! Another direct hit…
As I’ve said before, this is the beauty of combating an ideological foe: they are not really capable of perceiving reality and thus, inevitably, get lost in the maze of their own tortured reasoning. Then they become sitting ducks. But in a way that’s when they are most dangerous; Like any animal that is both trapped and panicked.
Also, they are primarily resentment driven. But this is a base emotion and so they alter their model of reality to rationalize why they feel small. Thus they make themselves feel large by disparaging us. This leads to arrogance, which is another form of blindness. Ignorance and arrogance are a fatal combination.
The implosion of the Obama admin, and of the Dem party started long before November, 2010. One may say that it began when The One was elected. (They were blinded by their arrogance and ignorance). But only now is the reality really beginning to settle in. This Jobs Plan is indeed proof that there is nothing left but the shell. But it has another function as well: to trigger violence in the streets. For a sitting President to actually seek to foment violence between citizens must surely rank as another instance of bald treason.
The Jobs Plan (“Pass This Bill”) Is intended to be the rallying cry of the dispossessed. The various charges of racism, exploitation by “millionaires and billionaires” etc. are supposed to rouse the angry mobs. Heck they even helpfully scheduled “riots” on Wall Street and got the mayor to advertise them!
Still, we are entering the most dangerous phase of the current crisis: When an opponent realizes there is no way out. Most will do the rational thing and surrender. They will either quit or, in some, cases, come clean in the hopes of salvaging some portion of the careers and/or reputation. Joe Biden is a good example of someone who might. He is a fool but he is not stupid. He got in over his head, but he’s not really one of them. Deep down there remains in him some love of country, and he could redeem himself dramatically by coming clean.
A lot depends on how we react to their Leninist “provokations”. Don’t rise to the bait. See it instead for what it is: a trap. Things are unravelling for the Dems at a dramatically accelerating pace now. Even the crowds who cheer them know its true, they are cheering their visions of what might have been. Obama can’t hold on much longer. By Nov. 2012 the Dems will be in complete dissolution. Some will already have gone into hiding. There will be a revolution all right, but not the kind they were hoping for.
I agree that we shouldn’t rise to their bait. I think that is the one thing they are hoping for and the one realistic chance they may have for holding on to power. Some incident where we righteously stand up and fight back against the evil that they’re bringing would be the excuse they need to impose draconian measures, all in the interest of ‘keeping the peace’ or ‘protecting the children’ of course. All one needs to understand them is to understand the concept of projection. Listen to their accusations and calumnies against us and then realize that they are telegraphing their own intentions. That realization has convinced me that they are not misguided, or even simply wrong. They are evil and will resort to anything, anything to maintain their power. That’s why we can’t rise to their bait. And unfortunately, we may have to take some casulaties before fighting back, much the same as – if I recall correctly – CPT Parker, at Lexington Green, ordered his men to stand fast until the British opened fire. This initial waiting and absorption of losses would be essential to convince the half asleep, brain dead, brainwashed out there of who the true aggressor’s are. And then, after a proper period of mourning for our losses, we respond. And when we respond, it should be thunderous and decisive and filled with the righteous anger of the truly just. And it should be bent on expelling this poisonous, malevolent evil from our midst, once and forever. Because Americans Don’t Serf.
I must be in a strange mood today, VDH.
It is not that I read today’s essay and disagreed with a single word. Quite the opposite, in fact.
It’s that I kept thinking of a Jethro Tull song, “Locomotive Breath” while reading your piece. “Old Charlie stole the handle and the train it won’t stop going, no way to slow down.”
To suggest that this assault on the free market has been a train wreck would be a colossal understatement.
What may not be stopped in this runaway scare ride…is what happens to Israel next? What is the permanent damage done in the Middle East? Is our military at risk of being gutted beyond immediate repair? With Christian Adams highlighting the hiring practices in the DOJ, what is the near permanent impact on us through those hires?
And, if that’s what is happening in the DOJ…what is happening in all the other departments that we don’t have a clue about?
What weeds have been planted in our garden of Eden…that remain unseen, unknown and unaccounted for in our vision of the future?
No doubt you’re right CFB. We’ll be paying for this experiment for decades to come, in ways anticipated and unanticipated. What they’ve done out in the open is staggering, just imagine what has been going on behind the scenes! But at least we’ll have our eyes open and our wits about us again. We know two things: the future is uncertain, and hell is ever at hand. Thankfully, Obama has re-equipped us to confront the one and prevail over the other.
Gylippus wrote:

We are still living with Carter’s legacy. Decades? Maybe generations this time.
I’ve twice cleaned up after union-owned activist Democrat state administrations. I was on a Republican mayor’s transition team after a two-term union-owned Democrat mayor; having seen the movie before, I ran. None were even in the same league as Comrade Obama’s assault on the federal government and my state will be decades in totally removing the Democrat/leftist sleeper cells and regulatory/statutory IEDs they left behind.
Since Clinton, the union/Democrat playbook has been to fire everyone who might have had a Republican thought, even down into the merit system. Democrats are good people, good people don’t do bad things, so there’s never any media attention when they illegally fire merit system employees. If the employee tries self-help or seeks publicity, the slime machine revs up and the character assassination is carried out on the front pages of the papers and the lead story on TV. ‘Crats know this, so they either just put their heads down and hope for better days or they try to get a job somewhere and weather the storm. ‘Course, since Republicans generally hate controversy of any sort, they generally won’t hire even another Republican who’s been mau-maued by the Democrats for fear some of the controversy might rub off. Then the Democrats neuter or run off all the remaining high-level merit system employees who actually know the rules and keep a government running relatively honestly. Don’t want any inconveniences like whistle-blowing ministerial employees. If any are so foolish to try, they get mau-maued by the Democrats and their friends in the media. When they have the bureaucracy suitably cowed, they then turn to making the government more “efficient” and “streamlined.” Of course, since what usually gets politicians in trouble is scandal involving rule breaking in hiring/firing, financial management, and purchasing. So, they make noisy press releases about saving money and streamlining, repeal all the rules, and plunge into the public trough so far that only their curly little tails are sticking out. But, of course, since Democrats are good people, nobody ever looks when they’re stealing. One of my Democrat bosses oversaw all my state’s computer buying when we first went online as well as the Y2K program with the state’s mainframes. He went straight from that job to the VP for “governmental affairs” for one of the largest computer companies in the World and one of my state’s largest venders during his tenure. Nobody said a word about it; Ethics Act be damned.
In union states, the union doesn’t need bargaining or a grievance procedure; they just make a call. If a supervisor is foolish enough to actually try to make employees be productive or to discipline them, the supervisor gets mau-maued. After a few years of Democrat misrule a government becomes a lot like the old Soviet Union where the employees all have the attitude of “they pretend to pay us and we pretend to work.”
I’ve written about how to clean up and how to make a government run for a Republican rather than run over them, but I wouldn’t wish it on anyone really. You have to really like being hated and you and your family need really thick skins because when you try to disassemble the Democrat’s ATM in government, the entire slime machine will be turned on you and you won’t have a friend in the World.
The cleanup won’t be done, can’t be done, by Country Club Republicrats, Mr. Nice Guy Beaner nor Howdy Doody McConnel. No one will take their places, so even with a two house majority, it won’t get done.
For further reasoning that cleanup won’t be done, cleanup requires some bold action such as:
1. Decimate the Civil Service by firing 9 out of 10 sniveling servants.
2. Sunset all laws and regulations. Test all rewrites for constitutionality by a Robespierrean Council .
3. Limit elective office terms and institute capital punishment for service disloyal to the constituition.
4. and institute drug testing of all public servants, elected or hired, immediately.
None of that will happen. The FALL, despite dips and pauses like a falling leaf, remains unstoppable.
N.B. for VDH: I’ve read you for years, and I’ve always agreed with you. This time you are either unbelievably naive or insanely ingenuous. Time you got up out of the valley and down from behind the podium to discover the REAL Americans, the mouth breathing girls at the girdle counter, the 47% non taxpayers, the 17% foodstampers, the 15% pimpled affirmative action nihilists, the 10% fatuous suburban burghers grown up in the 60s and 70s . . . . . . . in short, the Gulls and True Believers that comprise the majority of today’s voting Americans.
The collectivist foolishness of the last 50 years, and now Obamism, not only will continue to wind down the Republic for decades, but this time the Republic will come to a stop. Go Galt.
Crazy libertarians and Randians are as much of a problem as mush-brained liberals and security-obscessed housewives.
Neither you nor anyone else should or is going to “decimate” the federal or any other government. Everything a government does at some time had the support of 50% + 1 of that government’s legislative body; you aren’t going to just wish parts of it away or eliminate it by executive fiat. If you want to eliminate a federal program or department, you have to Nationalize the issue and have people run for Congress on that program. The ONLY reason the WI Republicans were successful in limiting collective bargaining rights for public employees there was the fact that the Governor and other prominent Republicans ran and got elected on doing it. If there’d just been a bill introduced to do it, the Ds and unions would have unleashed Hell on the Rs before anyone even knew there was such a bill, and they would have folded as soon as it got noisy.
They’re public employees, not your damned servants. You can view appointees and officeholders as public servants if you choose, but the mass of employees are just people with jobs. Unfortunately, in the Blue areas and in much of the federal government, they are hired more for the block they check on the Affirmative Action form, not for any knowledge, skills, or ability.
Whether you have Rs or Ds in charge, political-level management is generally lousy. Republicans come out of the Chamber, Rotary, service group or trade association with a bunch of ideas that sound a lot like yours but they don’t know where the light switches and restrooms are and are so paranoid towards and alienating of the government’s employees that they won’t ask and nobody will voluteer to tell them. Democrats are almost always the “made man” of some Democrat constituency and are completely partisan and agenda driven. They also know that since Democrats are good people, they can’t do bad things, so Democrats can ignore little things like laws and rules and nobody will say a word. Democrats are also MUCH better at actually getting the government to do what they want. First, most of them do know where the restrooms and light switches are, or can be bothered to learn quickly, and second, they don’t come in talking about firing nine out of ten of the employees they need to make the government run.
Government employees are generally very poorly supervised. First, there are few signals for measuring performance in most government functions. Sales or customer satisfaction, the usual private sector signals, are perhaps the worst measures in government. First, government doesn’t have “customers. You can’t choose to get your waste water permit at Saks or Bloomindales depending on which you like most, you must get it at the EPA or its state analog. Since their job is ministerial, they may just be required to turn down your application, and that isn’t going to make you a satisfied “customer.” You can use some of the usual measures for front desk, direct contact employees; the phone should be answered quickly, politely, and informatively, employees should be well-groomed, polite, and efficient. Beyond that sort of stuff, all your measures have to be based on best practices and adherence to statutory and regulatory powers and processes, and it isn’t the sort of thing that lends itself to performance pep rallies and bonuses for citing the most regulations in a disapproval letter.
And finally, even those supervisors not chosen for the AA block they check or their brown-nosing ability know better than to be too demanding, especially in a unionized environment or with employees in a protected class. If a union complains about a supervisor, that supervisor is toast in a Democrat government and may well be toast in a Republican government because the Republicans so hate controversy. In my experience, if you cause controversy, the Republicans won’t ask if you were right, they’ll just tell you to end the controversy and make people stop saying bad things about them. Supervisors also know that if they go along with an agressive Republican reformer and try to eliminate poor performers and “pets” in the workforce, one day they’re going to look up and see a new Democrat boss walk in the door, and s/he’ll have a list with their name on it. I spent most of my career his a high-level manager, a level or two below political appointees. Legally, I was prohibited from participating in partisan politics and could not be disciplined or dismissed for political reasons. That was nice, but my head was on the auction block in every election for my whole career. One of my Democrat bosses came in the office on his first day and announced that he had campaigned with the unions for the job and one of the things that he’d promised them was that he would fire us all. Since he was a Democrat and Democrats are good people, complaining to the media about that would have been just peeing in the wind. He didn’t get to fire us, but by the second year all the senior staff had found other places to be. You can only do things you hate for people you hate for so long. I went to work with the Republican controlled Legislature with that Democrat’s misery as my mission.
Anyway, to the major point of your screed; it all looks easy if you don’t know enough and most conservatives/libertarians, and even establishment Republicans simply don’t know enough to either run a government as they find it or reorganize it in such a way that it is possible for them to effectively run it. But if you ever get elected on a platform of firing 9 out of 10 government employees and compulsorily drug-testing the survivors, let the World know about it.
To “decimate” means to reduce by 1/10th.
Please don’t assist in Marx’s effort to dumb down the language.
English is a dead language and History hasn’t been taught in almost 50 years, cut the boy some slack. How could he know about the Roman military punishment for mutiny?
Art Chance, I have said as much to my husband…Repubs should clean house like they’ve have a clap plague. Until we get rid of these who would foul our system, we are doomed. Great point.
Yes, but you have to be smart about it. There’s way too much push back from slash and burn and just using a budget decrement allows the ‘crats to choose who goes, not the new administration. If you cut a government’s budget by, say, 10%, they take the cuts where the constituency for that service is least likely to feel the cut and that is always their infrastruction functions such as HR, financial management, procurement, etc. With nobody watching over them, these functions become fraught with fraud, waste, and abuse.
Any Republican taking office from Democrats should fire EVERY political appointee in the government the second his/her hand comes off The Bible. The very hardest thing you could do is try to stop a government from running, so the only people who’ll miss the prior administration’s appointees are the lobbyists, players, union reps, and reporters; those aren’t people who naturally support Republicans. The lobbyists will find new people to work with, don’t worry. Unfortunately, Republicans usually listen to the lobbyists and players and don’t clean house because they’re afraid of the disruption and the bad press. The only thing that will be disrupted is the contact lists of the players. Of course, the Democrats will howl about how these selfless public servants have been fired for purely political reasons – why else would you fire political appointees? – and they’ll have people whose house is being repossessed, mommies dying of cancer who lost their health insurance, and babies starving on the 6PM news the day you fire them, but the news cycle is 24 hours these days and the bleating and wailing goes away with the first good car chase.
I’m between you and VDH.
We on a raging river approaching the falls. More and more people are becoming aware that although the turbulence is horrible, the real danger is that the boat is very close to getting so out of control that it will inevitably go over the falls, and end everything. Yet the people steering are determined to keep it on course, no matter the consequences.
I see it as the most dangerous moment in US history, perhaps human history.
And the outcome is far from certain.
Every second spent discussing vaccines is a horrible horrible mistake.
From the perspective of history, Perry = Romney = Palin. The legacy of any of them will be that they defeated the man who was about to run the US over the falls to its death.
We need to stop fighting, get behind whoever wins the nomination, and make sure the boat is turned.
If not, it’s over.
We like circular firing squads and yelling “RINO” at each other a whole lot better than learning how to actually get elected and run a government.
Dear Professor Hanson,
It is extraordinary to watch Obama, the liberal moth, unrelentingly drawn to the flame of reality, scorching his wings over and over again. It has become a gruesome thing to witness, but witness it we do, day after day after day. How is it possible for any individual, let alone a President and his advisors, to be so removed from reality?
I live in the bluest of blue bastions and my liberal friends have been watching too. All but the most partisan are horrified, the rest are in the deepest of denials. With the exception of these zealots, we have all figured out what the problem is and when it will end. As miserable as the current environment may seem, the American economy and spirit are far more robust than you give credit. Our “old principles . . . might save us?” No. They will save us, just as they saved us in the post-Carter years. The only real question now is whether we must wait until 2012, or if congressional Democrats will move ahead of the election as they scurry from the sinking ship of state. I’d bet on the latter.
Yours truly,
ThOR
Metaphorically, you make the case that America is like the alcoholic that finally fell so low he had to drank a cheap, toxic moonshine (Obama brand) to get high and has now hit bottom and is ready for AA. The detox and headache from this binge is going to be terrible so I hope you’re right, because the patient may not survive another one.
– we outnumber you; we score higher on the SATs; we, oh, never mind…
Oh my, that is awesomely funny – well played!
Barack Obama has done the United States a great, though unforeseen, favor. He has brought to light, as no one else could, many of the pernicious assumptions of our culture from the last half-century. He turned theory and “what ifs” into fact for all America to see, experience, and, yes, suffer through.
In that regard, Hillary would have been far more dangerous IMO. I’m convinced that she is just as hard core a radical and she also is an Alynski disciple. But she would have been more subtle, and with Bill’s influence, more aware of the need to play her hand carefully and to occasionally draw back in the face of strong opposition – unlike the current meat-suit. As a matter of fact, if meat-suit for some reason withdraws from the race, she is in the wings and there are plenty of half-wits out there eager to cast another ‘historic’ vote. They make me gag.
It’s rather funny how so few will come to the center stage, grab the light and shout out for all to hear: “Obama is a Neo-Marxist, muslim loving, Jew hating, get even with Whitey leftie…err progressive!”
Go to the outer area of that “left wing” limb: Here rests “communism” in all it’s glory, for all to see. Want to hear “class warfare” speeches, “redistribution of wealth” speeches, even “let’s get the Unions working” speeches?
Obama has delivered on all of these points: His goal: Destroy the “American Imperialist” economy, then replace it with a “progressive reality” (read neo-communist state)!
So far his game is working just fine. Even our good Doctor Hanson can’t come to the fence and shout out such thoughts as I have just expressed. Most come up with “he’s inexperienced, an academic at best” or some other bland phrase of excuses.
Stupid Warren Buffet now has his name attached to a bomb! White dummies, old white dummies trying to deal with that inner guilt!
Welcome to Obama-Mao’s new world of “Debt Slaves” which be you…suckers!
Oh, he ain’t lost the forthcoming election…democrats certainly know how to count the votes behind closed doors…remember this warning too!
Buy a book “by it’s cover” is a nice line…too bad the “contents” are not what you were hoping.
Suckers!
‘Fraid I agree with you. I spent the last fifteen years or so of my career dealing with communist trained, Alinsky disciple public employee union representatives. They’re not hard to deal with IF you know what you’re dealing with. If you treat them like just another mush-brained liberal Democrat, they’ll destroy you. Unfortunately, most Republican officeholders and opinion leaders are FAR too nice and are so afraid of controversy they won’t even tolerate operatives around them that are confrontational enough to deal with union/community organizer types like Comrade Obama. Somewhat in their defense, the res publica by and large hates political controversy as well. That is unfortunately especially true of female voters and a lot of the reason they’re such a reliable Democrat constituency. The Ds put up metrosexual types that the women all know won’t discipline their kids. The Republicans keep putting up practicing adult heterosexual males. He still has a huge chunk of his 52% intact, and the Rs will have the Devil’s own time finding a way to get the mushy middle and their mushy wives to vote for a man that acts and talks like a man and the two most prominent women on our side of the ditch in addition to their other issues act more like men than even most Republican men, so they scare the middle to death. I just want to make sure we make enough gains in Congress and statehouses to thwart Comrade Obama and maybe at the state level begin to prosecute some union leaders and some of Obama’s wannabe Strelnikovs.
Well, where there is man born of woman there are and always be two parties: the Stupid Party and the Evil Party. How do you tell which one is which? Simple: the Stupid Party calls the Evil Party “stupid” and the Evil Party calls the Stupid Party “evil”.
Proceed accordingly.
Dave:
Maybe it goes beyond the evil party and the stupid party. Maybe there’s only one pary, the criminal party. And each of the members take the stage and perform when called upon.
VDH: It matters not, reality that is! As my Socialist cousin has said, she’s already starting to work on supporting Obama’s re-election campaign. What matters to her is whether we’ll tax the rich, after all they deserve to be taxed, eh, and that her family lives well there-after.
Don’t know quite how that’ll work out for my “Dear Cousin” but that might not be important right now.
Still, the idea that there might be some people who are allowed to prosper outside of the Socialist group is abhorrent to her, unless it’s her immediate family. Wonder if all Socialists are like her? My guess is that they are except when it comes to acknowledging that minor fact; they’re just progressives or liberals.
But, if Obama fails in his efforts to completely Socialize the USA, it’ll be because the effort wasn’t totally sincere; Bush reared his ugly capitalist head.
Cheers and now I’m headed for a likely divorce from some distance relatives.
“The future is uncertain, but at least now, after our cauterizing, we have some sort of chance to return to the old principles that might save us.”
Depends on a number of variables, but to return to the “old principles” one must know what they were and why they worked to begin with. Living off other peoples money is a hard lifestyle to kick and I don’t see us getting back to the old principles without some blood shed. (Wasn’t Bloomberg just moaning about possible riots because of the jobless and poverty).
Doc,
It is good to read that you found a silver lining in all of the gloom that you have been writing. That depressive we-are-all-doomed stuff was hard to take. Come on back with the optimism and the solutions forward.
9. Cornhead at 9:32: “2. Without Carter, there was no Reagan. Who is our new Reagan? I don’t think it is Rick Perry.”
No, she certainly isn’t Perry.
Right on, professor.
As a seen-the-light ex drop out leftie, myself, I can easily understand such a True Believer like The One, Obama. Hubris is so dazzling!
Here’s the longstanding thing, though—
Americans have been self-defined as conservative verses liberal by two to one for YEARS. Even as BHO was able to play Lucy and pull the football AFTER fooling the electorate, it was inevitable that he would force the people to come slowly, or come quickly, to the realization of their True beliefs—if he indeed went for it, as you so eloquently note.
Another illusion that needed to be busted has to do with that now-old T-shirt- and otherwise used- motto—”NO FEAR!”
When a gorilla is chasing you, FEAR is wonderfully appropriate!
When Obama is taking America down the tubes, GREAT FEAR is perfectly called for. Hopefully, we are presently in the midst of a “triple witching hour”, or inflection point, after which even more people will be infected with the Great Truth the coming of Obama starkly exposes.
Wake up, people!
If Obama, et al, was a stock, I’d say the selloff has quite a ways to go before reaching bottom. Indeed, it really wouldn’t surprise me if he pulled an LBJ, because there’s one thing that’s certain about the Democratic Party—they aren’t POLITICALLY stupid, and maybe we’ll have some “behind closed doors” confabs by the powers that be in that non-suicidal party, that uses “panic” and “desperation” to find a way for BHO to bow out.
If the USA had a parliamentary system, there’s no doubt in my mind that Obama would ALREADY be gone. As it stands today, we can look forward to over a year of HILARITY, since his act has been seen through by the majority of us.
Imagine, only public union members, and people at the public teat will remain as his hardcore supporters, along with the always present 20% or so of totally uninformed fools.
Hasta la vista, baby!
The “Obama cartharsis” seems to be functioning like a suppository on my bank account. And not only for the Conservatives.
Our next Conservative Administration needs to negate every single item passed into law during this regime, and proceed to negate many others from prior regimes. Otherwise, we’ll still be under their despotic dictates.
The next step is to appoint special prosecutors to investigate this entire Regimes dealings, since they really like to flaunt their corruption.
In 2008, a conservative political analyst being interviewed on NPR was asked about Obama being elected. His repsonse was to the effect of: Obama will show us what true liberal socialist government is like. After all, how much damage can he do in four years. He will insure a conservative in 2012.
I think he was right.
I’m optomistic.
I’m concerned that with the short attention spans of our newly evolving America with its population so obviously addicted to their electronic thumb-summoning of trivial instant diversions and gratifications, that such well expressed thoughts of Dr Hanson’s will be short lived, and then altogether bypassed.
Somehow, we must elect the Conservatives while at the same time keeping fresh the memories of this epic empty suit, B. Hussein Obama….long after he’s been defeated.
We must never allow ourselves to forget this awful “administration”. We must damn “charisma” in all the subtle forms of its emptiness, and never let it snooker us again.
We must never allow ourselves to forget this awful “administration”. We must damn “charisma” in all the subtle forms of its emptiness, and never let it snooker us again.
Good luck with that! Really! I’m Canadian and we elected a charismatic socialist named Pierre Elliot Trudeau as our Prime Minister and he served from 1968 to 1984, aside from 9 months when a decidedly uncharismatic CINO (Conservative In Name Only) had the reins. Trudeau died some years back after a quiet retirement and the media made out that it was an immense loss to the nation. The MSM still talks wistfully of the marvelous Trudeau era.
If Obama has even a fraction of the enduring love of your MSM the way Trudeau does with our MSM (which is probably at least as left-leaning as yours), people will still be convincing themselves that Obama was the Best President Ever for another century at least. You have no idea how nauseating that will seem after you hear it for a while.
Leftists have a staggering ability to deny reality and replay the history they would like to have experienced as if it actually happened that way so that they can completely ignore what DID happen.
“Some sort of chance to return to the old principles”? The problems are severe and will require perseverance to solve them. Be prepared for an endurance test if we wish to reverse the damage President Obama has done.
That house scene from Dr Zhivago, is seared into my memory, even as a child I understood the corruption and the ugliness of something once so beautiful destroyed.
If He gets a second term and we don’t have both bodies of Congress and retain a majority of statehouses, it will only be a matter of time before the ACORN or NBPP rep is at your door to assess how many families your house should accomodate and to put the appropriate monitoring devices on your vehicle to insure you don’t have too much of a carbon footprint or stray from your assigned district. There’s lots of bespectacled Sasha’s out there who really resent losing the hot girl and want to recreate themselves as Strelnikov cruising his armored train through flyover country accompanied by a loyal force SEIU or AFSCME mounted troops. Can’t you just see them fantasizing about it?
Your comments are pretty accurate. And you have insider experience. Cultural problems aren’t about to be rationally solved because they emerge from emotions centered on long-term middle class demoralization, race and sex. In the Port Huron Statement (1962) two major themes were developed for the New Left to exploit – adolescent alienation and race – engineered by a takeover of the academy and Democratic Party. SDS succeeded beyond its wildest dreams with the help of college-educated women and homosexuals as an unforeseen bonus.
“Yes, Comrades. It is more…equal.”
That movie, Dr. Zhivago, should be mandatory viewing in every school in America. It would undo a lot of the damage that the letist curricula currently does.
Heck, if Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth can be shown in school, then I say Zhivago needs to be shown as well.
And btw – it’s a beautiful movie.
If only it were so simple….
I think it would be great if every leftist argument/book/film was countered by a rightist argument/book/film but I’m not sure the right even gets to talk any more in our school systems; the leftist teachers ensure that ONLY the leftist point of view is heard. They’re so sure that the left’s point of view is the correct point of view that they don’t feel the need to waste class time hearing alternate points of view.
I heard a truly frightening factoid a year or two back: the number one most used books in libraries were those of Noam Chomsky and they were being used primarily by school children doing class assignments.
When a teacher present Michael Moore, Oliver Stone, and Noam Chomsky but never mentions alternative points of view like Milton Friedman or Ayn Rand, you know that the school isn’t focused on education any more, it’s an indoctrination center for the Left.
I’m just wondering. Could it be that Obama’s rise and fall are supremely planned events? Give the citizens a taste of an unpalatable meal and they will never try it again. It is hard to imagine anyone making so many obviously stupid, foolish, transparent, predictable etc. left-leaning decisions as Obama has. Either that or he is truly retarded.
This article got me thinking (smell the wood burning?) I have like most felt that this can not go on much longer. Then I listen to the Repub candidates and I listen to their supporters then I listen to their detractors and I am still a little worried about what it is that we ‘think’ we want. I know I would not make a good president. I have too much ‘revenge’ in my heart. So when I see this crop of candidates I wonder which will ‘give me my revenge’? None will and that is good. “Revenge is mine, says The Lord.” So the question is ‘What am I really looking for in my next President?’
First he/she must be a principled conservative. One that knows what the Constitution means to them and is capable of expressing what the Constitution says to the people and be able to generate an honest respect for our Constution. I want a President that doesn’t adhere to old ideas about power and authority. Doesn’t believe that the office ‘is the most powerful office in the world’ but God is the most powerful spokesperson of this nation and He speaks through the Constitution. A President that can direct but not mandate to Congress a way forward to regaining ourselves and to show, lead this nation back to the idea of a ‘melting pot’ heated by a unified philosophy of ‘shared responsibility to freedom and liberty. Someone who is so unelectable but so right for the job. I have some ideas but if I am to believe “IN GOD WE TRUST” then that is what I am going to do.
(did I do it right?)
to pollute: “My belief …. blessings come from Him, the document withstanding;… and every American knows what is Our binding tie; indeed, sacred: An ingenious humility of the masterpiece is it’s open, under certain… (non-compact – but this is not an inate – hence lawyers – h…).
If Jan ’13 were only not so far away…. I see the train as still on a runaway course – with significant damage to come around the next bend. We can only hope that the House stays strong and focused – ready to counter every false move. And I agree about the “behind the closed doors” damage – the revelations will probably be stunning but too late to punish and longlasting in their ramifications for us and our children.
“…the cards unfortunately are on the table…”
Don’t believe it for a minute. The cards will be on the table when Sharpton, Farrakhan, Wright and Hofffa say so.
Hoffa? Yes, Hoffa. The traditionally anti African American blue collar unionists, SEIU and the remnants of ACORN are throwing their lot in together. A new union of white and black Americans joined to protect their God-given right to unsustainable wages and benefits. Halleluyah, brother.
Hoffa’s crude call to arms was widely misunderstood. If things go very bad for Obama, Hoffa and friends are taking their supporters into the streets. Obama’s daddy was a Mau Mau; Hoffa’s was a gangster. Ignore Gangster Jr’s warning at your peril. Bobby Kennedy had Hoffa’s kind dead right.
I don’t think too many people missed the call to arms for what it was, either among those willing to act on it, or those who would be their targets. What I think it’s even more likely to accomplish is get more of the latter out of their homes and to the polls in November 2012.
From your mouth to God’s ear.
Mr. Levavi,
I didn’t mean to sound so blatantly contradictory–just different takes, I guess–and should have stated so at the beginning. And right now I’m smiling because your observation above is what I had originally intended to post, then got swept up in reading all the other thoughtful comments. In any case, I respected your remarks and found myself chewing on them at some length before I gave in to the urge to respond. (Despite mountains of evidence to the contrary, I seem to keep stubbornly bouncing back to an optimistic approach, because I also happen to believe in that old self-fulfilling prophecy thing, and I think our collective attitude as a country has never been more critical.)
…and that “missed” should have been “misunderstood.”
Regards!
Mr. Hanson, this is the first essay of yours I’ve dared to read in about a year. I’m glad to see your confidence that November 2012 will turn this disaster around.
“Had McCain been elected . . .”
He would have muddled and discredited the conservative case for years.
Palin 2012
Saving US is going to have to start locally, first.

I’d love to believe this, but for every person I talk to who is fed up with Obama, I hear from another who believes that he needs to stop “compromising with Republicans”. I think we’ll end his term with the country about evenly split, just as we did when Bush left office. I think he’ll lose re-election because the independents have soured on him, but I think you may be overestimating the philosophical realignment that’s taken place.
Of course, I would VERY much like to be wrong.
Some of those will know that continue voting for Dems and their agenda destroys the country. But they’ve hitched their wagons to the wrong horse, so to speak.
They’ve invested too much and too deep of their future, there is no going back. It is so till the bitter end.
And Obama losing his Dem support will bring short term ‘compromising’ that the fickle middle/independent/whatever they call themselves crave, which in turn diminishes the Tea Party message, and what really must be done (to save our Republic).
Yes, absolutely right. Obama has done us a great service by showing us how much damage a far left wing radical can do to the country. The rational part of the country is now scared to death of electing someone like him again.
Obama has also done the country another service by being the facilitator of a process that will leave the Democratic Party with only its far left wing radical core in the very near future. And without their fast disappearing ‘moderate’ veneer the dems will never again be able to get one of their own elected POTUS.
Another home run, Dr. H. Thanks!
I didn’t read any of the comments on this; but VDH, you nailed it this time. We’ve have been and are still going through a dynamic not something evil visited upon us. Yes there is and will be tremendous good that comes out of this whole thing and our future will be prosperous.
Our Founding Fathers knew exactly what they were doing and yes we have a system of government that promotes freedom like no other on earth. So let’s take our valuable lessons from Obama and stick with our Founders and fulfill the destiny of the U.S.A.
Nuff said.
I hope this is true. I live in Texas and do not think everyone here realizes it is GOOD in Texas and the rest of the country varies between bad and awful. I know some members of my family do not realize that McCain and Romney would be more of the same of Obama. They like the two because they are more willing to compromise, on what I don’t know. I know a good chunk of people who like Ron Paul with his decrepit appearance, pitiful foreign policy, and “9/11 is America’s fault!” stances. Perry/Cain is the best team out of the current candidates and that’s who I have my fingers crossed for.
This is the best blog.
Hey, Doc, you forgot the tagline, and so fitting, too.
Barry may have been the one the Lefties were waiting for, but they forgot what those Dead White Men taught the rest of us, “Be careful of that for which you wish. You may get it”.
Dr. Hanson, I wish I could believe what you have written will turn out to be true but the left and their dispicable delusions never go away. They are a parasite that just will not die. A history of one abject failure and reign of terror after another means nothing. I thought they were done when the Soviet Union imploded. I thought they would at least side against Islamic facisim. But every time I think they are over or that they would at least act rationally, they never fail to do anything but disappoint.
I’m sorry to say it but our society is dying. We have societal cancer. It has spread to most of our organs and we are soon to die. We are still walking and talking but our days are numbered. The disease is rampant and there is no way to reverse its advance. There will be no Phoenix rising from our ashes. It is impossible to imagine what is left over after a nation of free people devolves into a third world cess pool. Perhaps China will colonize us.
Democrat is now a four-letter word.
Can the comments from “La Raza” possibly be sincere? Doesn’t this sound like the rhetoric of an “anglo” in despair over what he thinks is happening to his country?
“We are Reconquering the Southwest…and you gringos can’t stop us.
Well, who knows. On the internet, as they say, “no one knows you are a dog”. But for myself, if I actually believed what is quoted above, and hoped to see this “reconquest” occur, surely I would not want to warn my perceived enemies about what my group was doing. So it seems that La raza is either sincere, but very foolish, or an agent provocateur, hoping to awaken the non-Hispanic to the danger of reconqeust, but either way, someone unaware of the danger of over reptition.
For myself I see Hispanic immigration differently. I live in New York, not the south west, so I know hispanic immigrants from many countries, not just Mexico: Cuba, the dominican, Puerto rico, venezuela, columbia, peru, argentina, (by the way, do you count the Philippines as Hispanic? I suppose a test case for whether you mean what you say or not). These groups are very diverse, and share not so much more than just a language. Some are of mostly European ethnic origin, others have various levels of American indian descent. In my experience they have widely varying ethnic self identification. But in the early 1900′s, Italian and Jewish immigrants were not counted as “white”, but now they are. If America remains prosperous and unafraid, most of these groups will likely assimilate and their politics will no longer be driven by “otherness”. Of course this may not happen in the southwest, where the size of the mexican immigration and its proximity to the homeland will tend to preserve ethnic self identification much longer.
So whoever La Raza is, he should not count the “hispanic” population generally when he contemplates “reconquest” Not to mention, if one considers the model of the Roman Social Wars, a North American Union might be a more likely long term outcome, one in which Mexican identity might fare like that of southern Italy in the Roman Empire
We aren’t warning you gringos. We are taunting you.
We have already defeated you. It is too late for you to stop us.
La Reconquista is a sure thing. All we need is a bit more time.
You gringos are a defeated people. We have conquered you. Adios gringos.
Ignore this person, pretty please
“5. Do you believe it appropriate for the man who would be president, holds a born again prayer meeting at the drop of a hat given what the constitution has to say about the matter?”
Yes, “the Constitution” forbids prayer meetings!!!
Who knew!?
Jay:
Hey Einstein, the good news is that you are correct about one thing. The Constitution of the United States doesn’t prevent anyone from having a prayer meeting.
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
You see the first ammendment is pretty broad in that respect. It includes, not only Christians, but Jews, Muslims and many others, that broad brush includes Mormons as well.
I dislike a candidate for President of the United States pandering to groups of individuals. I would much prefer that he dealt with issues such as how to get the ship of state back on course. That is a question for all Americans. I’m no more convinced of Rick Perry’s Christianity than I am of President Obama’s after he sat in Reverend Wrights Church for twenty years and never heard a hateful word and had no clue where the pastor’s sermons were intended to strike. Or Bill Clinton’s Christianity based on his reluctant carrying of his bible to church on Sunday on camera when he was President
Simply put, I don’t think religion should be a litmus test for presidential candidates and I don’t think that individual groups should be pandered to. The job of a President is to do his best to unite all of the people he represents, all of them, without fear or favor or pandering for votes of pressure groups.
That would include every single person who is an American, natural born and naturalized. It would not include those who reside in this country illegally.
I don’t believe that criminal conduct should be rewarded. I believe that Governor Perry’s statement about how illegal aliens are treated in Texas creates a magnet for more and more law breakers to cross the border illegally and is terrible policy.
I felt exactly the same way in 2008 when the goober, hillbilly bible thumping guitar pickin’ phoney from Arkansas, Mike Huckleberry was designated as the Romney stopper at that time. Some things just seem to never change. And I’ve seen 90% of it over and over and over again.
I reject the notion that God, whomever he or she may be, wants all of the men, women and children of the world to reside in the United States of America.
I believe that nations have a responsibility to cast off their own shackles. A good place to start to clean up the garbage would be in Mexico. A geological paradise ruled by tyrants, despots and now drug lords over hundreds of years.
Why can’t the people of Mexico stand up and say no more, just as they are doing in so many nations in the middle east and Africa? Want to know the answer? Because it takes courage to fight when all you have to do to avoid it is to make it across the border into the U.S.A.
For as long as I’m able. I’ll call them as I see them. Without pay and without violating my beliefs and principles. You can take that to the bank deep thinker.
“The Fourth Turning; An American Prophecy” by Strauss and Howe. Broadway Books, 1997.
If you haven’t read it, buy it or borrow it, and read it from first page to last. If you have read it in the past, VDH, it’s time to read it again.
It’s one of the best non-fiction books I’ve ever read.
If you haven’t read it, you really won’t understand what’s going on in the world…or why.
I will vote to replace Obama, not that my vote will matter as I live in Crook County, IL. But replacing Obama may not save us. There are too many slave-peoples dependent on government, too many saying “Don’t Cut Me,” too many who care naught for the future if they can be okay for another year. We are very close to fiscal collapse, followed by political and social collapse, then chaos. Like citizens of other vanished polities, from the Roman Republic to the USSR, most folks don’t think the US could collapse. I will link to this from my Old Jarhead blog

“Because the Only Good Progressive is a Failed Progressive”
BILL CLINTON DID NEITHER OF THOSE THINGS. STOP TELLING THE LEFTIST’S LIES FOR THEM!!
The REPUBLICAN controlled Congress did those things. They shoved them down that leftist’s throat with the help of massive public support. He stuck is finger in the wind, saw that it was strong and united against him, and signed the bills.
We have enough media telling the leftist’s lies over and over again. We don’t need to see it here on PJM.
Gun owners have no illusions about Clinton’s Communist regime. Gun owners were treated like Jews in Auschwitz. The first thing that Communist degenerate did was to find a group of Seventh Day Adventists who were late on paying a gun tax and incinerate them, along with their wives and babies.
We gun owners will never forget the Burning Times. Nor will we just forget about all of you who supported that wicked Communist regime.
The person to credit for Clinton’s triangulation and damage control is Newt Gingrich. Too bad that he later tarnished his own “brand” beyond repair…
Clinton did declare that,”Big Government as we know it is over”. But he also is directly accusable for NAFTA, ‘Dont ask-dont tell”, and embarassing the nation internationally as chief exectutive for ‘conduct unbecoming’. You cant turn an egg-suckin’ dog (even if its because of an Oval Office cigar trick).
Lately, ol’ Bill seems so docile you might wonder if Hillary did a ‘bobbit’.
One can hope.
Thank you, VDH, for finally taking it to my profession like a good conservative should. I myself am a surgical subspecialist. I discovered through reading Capitalism and Freedom by Milton Friedman that many of our problems today stem from conspiracies hatched by the people that came before me in medicine. One of my chief goals in life now is the elimination of government protection of doctors through medical licensing.
VDH – Your description of the words and actions of the Obama Administration are right on, but I fear you overestimate the perceptions and likely reactions of the American sheeple. This says it best: From comment #2 on Andrew Klaven’s post “Obama is Wrong, Not Evil”.
I believe this is from a Prague Newspaper, but it really does sum it up nicely;
“The Real danger to America is not Barack Obama! The real danger to America is a citizenry capable of entrusting such an inexperienced and incompetent man like Obama with the Presidency.
“It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama Presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their President.
“The problem goes much deeper and is far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America.
“Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.
“While the Republic can survive a Barack Obama; it is far less likely to survive the multitude of fools who made him President.”
It is that “multitude of fools” that will doom any attempts to save our sinking ship of state.
Alas Babylon.
John Work:
Your comment has not gone unnoticed. It’s probably the best on this particular essay of Dr. Hanson because it shines through the filter of truth and common sense.
Well done, thank you.
This political wisdom from a country who collaborated the the Nazis so as to sieze the Carpatho-Urkrane, southern Slovakia, and Transylvania; then patterned their new post WW-2 government after Soviet Communism. A true oracle LOL.
I’m sure a few have considered writing a book about a true Marxist who wanted to destroy America, and was elected President of the United States.
Well, it no longer needs to be written. As you all know, it’s played out in real life.
Unlike many books, though, there ain’t no surprise ending. In fact, there are no surprises at all.
The anointed one, one Barack Obama, has made such a mess of things that it would even impress Hardy (another fine mess) of Laurel and Hardy fame. Odds are, though, Obama won’t even run in 2012, expect maybe to a nice socialist country that’ll allow Zero to be seen in public without being booed or shunned. Or worse.
I’m sure more than just a few have considered writing a book about a true Marxist who wanted to destroy America, and, by a hefty margin, was elected President of the United States.
Well, of course, the book no longer needs to be written. As you all know, it’s played out in real life.
Unlike many books, though, there ain’t no surprise ending in this baby. In fact, there are no real surprises at all.
Or worse.
Miker5 & CGW,
There is a candidate that is not getting enough traction, he is the man you describe and that man is Herman Cain. He is a smart man and his 9-9-9 plan can get us out of this mess. Plus he has the ability to not make this next election about race, which is what the left wants it to be about. Vote Herman Cain in the primaries and let’s take our country back.
Lonestar Hardhat:
If he gets the nomination I will gladly cast my vote for Mr. Cain. I agree with what you say about him but even more imprtant to me, he is not a member of the ruling class whose members usually come to prominence at the state level then devote their entire lives to becoming big dogs on the playing fields of Washington D.C. while using taxpayer money.
Good article.
We had to see the results of leftist gov in full force before everybody in the country finall realized how horrible it really was.
I do have one fear though. The repubs may think that they can go back to the Bush days, where they bought off their base with social conseervative BS, while spending, and engaging in crony capitalism almost as bad as Obama. It wont help if we merely trade one set of corrupt cronies for another.
The solution is the Tea Party. If they maintain control of the repubs we have a chance, since it looks to me like they really beleive in cutting spending, and ending crony capitalism, they dont just talk about it. The key to the Tea Party is they aren’t just straignt repubs. They are a cooalition of libertarians and straignt repubs, and their libertarian wing wont tolerate merely trading Obama cronies for repub cronies. They are demanding an end to the whole mess.
We’re all libertarians now.
“When the head of the caucus admits race is all that matters in Black Caucus protest, the cards unfortunately are on the table.” -The head of the Black Caucus.
Although he sounds like skin-game player, he certainly calls a spade, a spade LOL.
Re: “We will see another black president some day, but race will be incidental not essential to his or her character.” Dr. Hanson, please do not be misled by Obama’s pigmentation; he is of mized race. Moreover, plenty of evidence exists that his primary ethnic-racial identity is not “blackness” per se, but African and Muslim. Obama is a racial opportunist, who seized upon the incipient sense of racial grievance to go someplace politically. Many black Americans, genuine ones, not the faux variety like BHO, are as angry as can be – because they realize they have been duped, and that Obama actually cares very little about them. This is a minority, but a growing one.
As for our “next” black chief executive, maybe we should give ourselves a mulligan, as golfers would say, and select someone like Allen West or Herman Cain. These are men any American, black or white, could be proud to have in office.
Skeptical, re: “This political wisdom from a country who collaborated the the Nazis so as to sieze the Carpatho-Urkrane, southern Slovakia, and Transylvania; then patterned their new post WW-2 government after Soviet Communism. A true oracle LOL.”
Your sarcasm is unwelcome and your post in error. While it is true that Czechoslovakia (including Bohemia) had some collaborators in WWII, yours is a non sequitur as an argument, because every single occupied nation of Europe had them, bar none. The Czechs were sold out at Munich by Chamberland, who let the Nazis simply march in and seize their nation without a fight. They exchanged one tyranny for another when the Soviet army conquered their homeland, freeing it from Hitler, but putting it under Soviet control for the next half century.
You accuse the Czechs of patterning their post-war govt. upon Soviet communism – which is a ridiculous argument. They didn’t “pattern” anything; Stalin ordered it, and it happened. The alternative was to be crushed by the military might of the USSR. The Czechs finally arose in 1968, and got Stalin’s tanks in Prague for their trouble. Today, for good reason, the Czech republic is one of the most ardent defenders of freedom. Why? They have recently experienced its absence.
I don’t think another president will ask the Arab League and the UN — but not the U.S. Congress — whether he can lead from behind France and Britain in bombing an Arab oil exporter on behalf of “rebels” who promise Sharia Law.
I believe the girls, Samantha Power and Susan Rice, backed up by Hillary, talked Barack into the Libyan adventure, in keeping with said girls’ notion that the object of American foreign policy is to effect a particular version of “social justice”. When Islamists take over the place, I guess they can say, oh well, we tried; or maybe Islamists taking over is the goal.
Obama is unduly susceptible to the influence of girls, despite Anita Dunn’s carping to the contrary. One of the few surviving Chicago insiders, semi brain dead Valerie Jarrett, hangs around and continues to flatter her guy on a daily basis…”bored his whole life…smarter than anyone else”.
Then there’s Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, also reasonably brain dead, who Barack pushed for DNC chair and who he has described as “cute”.
Debbie recently said that the NY district won by Bob Turner was a “tough” one for democrats, I guess that would be because it had been in democrat hands since 1923.
In the manner of Richard Nixon, Obama and his supporters gave us first “Fight the Smears,” then Journolist, and now “AttackWatch.com” — the common denominator being to watch, monitor, report, and quash criticism of Him, in enlisting the loyal flock to go after the heretic on the list…a crude ploy to silence conservative critics.
New tactics, he more or less got laughed off the stage when, earlier in his term, he was doing things like telling graduating college students they needed to broaden their reading choices, and recommended the Huffington Post.
Obama’s slurs directed at critics on “talk radio” also fell flat. (altho’ he falsely contended they didn’t affect him, you know they got under his thin skin.)
I agree with your thesis in the spirit of Obama “…serving as a bad example”
Dogmatic progressivism in extremis, yoked to incompetence.
I hope the example of these 4 long years is enough to accomplish something in Washington DC besides business as usual.
NOT SO FAST >>> the author is forgetting how incredibly stupid the American voters are. Public school “educated idiots” is what they are. Especially the minorities. Obama is counting on them to pull him through. Don’t forget; they’re the voters who put him in 1600 Penna in the first place. So what if the economy is a total cluster foxtrot ? Obama loves it. The more chaos, the better. Don’t forget what Rahm Emanuel said, ” Never let a good crisis go to waste “. That’s what Obama does best: creat crisis. If not, then he’s a bigger idiot than even I think he is. It’s right out of Saul Alinsky’s play book. Can’t you idiots see that ? CONCLUSION: Only GOD can help us now.
You might even say that Obama, through no fault of his own, has awakened the sleeping giant that are the good people of this fine country!

Some time ago, the “Clnton or Carter?” debate regarding Obama’s ultimate destIny was at the fore of political speculation. The determinative premise of either/or was the integrity of his ideological bona fides, I.e. whether he was willing to damn the torpedoes and go down portside with the sinking ship of his ideology, a la Carter, or if, Clinton-like, he would be willing to throw all of that “under the bus” and triangulate starboard for the self-centered sake of a second term (and the personal glories it affords), as successfully navigated by Bill Clinton.
Obama had already demonstrated that he was willing to lie (e.g. “I wasn’t referring to race when I contrasted myself with the presidents on the dollar bills”), abandon or dishonor long-time friends and even family members (e.g. Reverend Wright and his
“typically-white” grandmother) for political expediency, take 180 degree reversals from campaign promises to governing
policies ( e.g. From harsh condemnation of the Bush/Cheny war protocols to an embrace and enhancement of them), and prove to have a preference for the elitist, jet-setting good life (which is usually at odds with the kind of donkey-riding image one associates with selfless, messianic leaders).
And off the bat he had the devious nerve to plagiarize and conflate Clinton’s 1992 campaign mottoes–from “Man From Hope” and
“It’s Time For Change” to “Hope & Change”–while fending off charges of plagiarism for his “Just words?” speech.
So he didn’t strike me as the kind of principled ideologue who would stick to his guns and remain “true to himself,” and popularity
be damned (as Carter seemed to have settled for the most part, inept or too tardy political theatrics notwithstanding), but more the
kind of Machiavellian character who was all about theater with his eye on the prize of prolonged, second-term power for his very
own self-centered sake, like the profound Narcissist Clinton.
With such reasoning I argued here that Obama is more Clinton than Carter, while our host Dr. Hanson concluded him to be another
Carter, and I must concede the argument to our insightful and prescient host.
I must concede the argument.
Interestingly, it is Obama’s best qualities–his integrity, loyalty, and perseverance to a championed cause–that dooms him, while Clinton’s worst qualities–his deviousness, treachery, and flip-flopping–allowed him to advance.
Perhaps it’s not a question of individual, presidential character, after all, but whether one promotes the right ideology for the country, intentionally, accidentally, conveniently, or willy-nilly, as only one of two ideology leads to prosperity, however it’s enacted (sincerely, as with Reagan, or with ulterior motives, as with Clinton).
(Ironic–If I’m using that oft-misused word correctly–that Obama’s good quality
I stumbled over tying Obama to qualities remotely resembling…”…integrity, loyalty, and perseverance to a championed cause.”
I’ve seen no evidence of integrity and loyalty.
Any illusion of “perseverence to a championed cause” I see done in a spirit of inflexibility and narcissism, an “I will be right, damn the facts” kind of spirit.
Clinton’s pragmatism sprang from reading the writing on the wall; Obama will persist in his dogmatism to the death. He played with attempts to appear otherwise, but since that didn’t play at all in Peoria, he is abandoning that expedient charade.
“Integrity” in the uncompromised qualIty of his ideology; he is a true-blue believer. ClInton’s “pragmatism” was a political one. Gingrich was correct during the Orlando debate in taking credit for the balanced budgets and welfare reform. They (I.e. The new GOP Congress) pretty much dragged Clinton to the table kicking and screaming, before he pragmatically smiled for the cameras and took credit for it (and effectively demonized Gingrich for good measure).
Obama’s loyalty is to that ideology. I thought he would throw that under the bus as well, as Clinton did, when it was clearly proven a failure (both politically and empirically). but he showed during his last jobs speech that he was devotedly standing by his Keynes.
Look, Mr Hanson: This tyrant is going to cancel the 2012 elections. Watch. If we have another free election, it will be a miracle.
Prepare yourselves. The Left will not relinquish power. We’ll have to wrest it form them.
Thanks for every other informative site. Where else may just I am getting that type of information written in such a perfect means? I’ve a venture that I’m just now working on, and I’ve been on the glance out for such information.
I’m no longer positive where you are getting your info, but good topic. I must spend a while learning much more or figuring out more. Thank you for great information I used to be looking for this information for my mission.
I do believe all of the concepts you have offered in your post. They are very convincing and can certainly work. Nonetheless, the posts are very brief for novices. Could you please extend them a little from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.
