Pajama Boy Nation

December 22nd, 2013 - 11:11 pm

The White Trash Zoo

How bizarre that the Duck Dynasty characters and Pajama Boy reverberated the same week. I have never watched Duck Dynasty, and have only glanced at the expanding genre of white working class reality dramas, from tree cutters and gold miners to ice truckers and boat captains: Cussin’ good ol’ boys, who lose their temper when failing to start the generator, have big arms and bigger guts, and are to remind us (within limits) that once upon a time we all used to be more like them than Ezra Klein and Jay Carney.

Who watches these shows? Perhaps the majority of viewers are those who still admire muscular strength and the earthy ability to make a living from nature (and not work for the Bureau of Labor Statistics or the local Department of Motor Vehicles), and a smaller percentage who find these aborigines odd, but also oddly compelling in their reminder that the people like themselves who run our country could not sharpen a chain saw, change the oil in their car, or unplug their own sewer line. This latter group is curious about the uncouth people who can do these things.

The A&E controversy grew even stranger in that pet white aborigines from the rural south are supposed to shock us by their blunt talk and religious hocus pocus, but only if they stay inside the bars of their zoo cage and thus only ham it up within the parameters of politically correct hillbilly-ese. The Pajama Boy mob at A&E must know that the Ducks, should they speak like those in Silicon Valley or act in accordance with Upper West Side protocols, would have zero audience. Is the logic of Duck Dynasty that the few left in America of the 1940s can spout off in a neat way to us — but only without putting their paws and snouts too far through the bars of their cage?

Obama as Pajama Boy

Pajama Boy is the bookend to vero possumus, the faux-Greek columns, the Obama rainbow logo, cooling the planet and lowering the seas, hope and change, Forward!, “Yes, we can!”, the Nate Silver infatuation, Barbara Walters’ “messiah,” David Brooks’ crease, Chris Matthews’ tingle, and the army of Silicon techies who can mobilize for Obama but not for Obamacare. These are the elites without identities who feed on the latest fad. They are the upper-crust versions of those who once mobbed stores to buy the last Cabbage Patch Kids doll, or had to have a pet rock on their dresser. Obama, after all, was the lava lamp and Chia Pet of the young urban progressive.

If I were to focus on just two of the many characteristics of Pajama Boy nation in the Age of Obama, one would be that the consequences of one’s ideology apply always to someone else. Obama obsesses on inequality, but cannot even go through the populist motions of avoiding Martha’s Vineyard, or not dressing like a nerd for golf at the latest tony course.

He is an arugula-eating man of the people who tries to bowl only during election season. Michelle rags on the 1%, but still hits Costa del Sol and Aspen. Obamacare for us; for congressional staffers and insiders something quite different. A Nobel Prize and a half a billion dollars for guru Al Gore; and dumping Current TV on a fossil-fuelled, anti-Semitic authoritarian Middle Eastern regime to fund more good work of our green Elmer Gantry.  Amnesty for illegal aliens, but private academies for liberal kids far from the ensuing chaos of the public schools.  Pajama Boys are fiercely liberal so that they can fiercely avoid the people they so champion and are so afraid to live among.

Second, the architects of Pajama Boy nation always expect others to go on despite rather than because of them. The frackers must frack so that Obama can brag about their productivity, while he bites his lip and looks pained to billionaire coastal benefactors about pumping liquid into the bowels of their Mother Earth.

On Friday, Barack Obama was back out to again brag about his three supposed accomplishments: One, the deficit is shrinking; two, the gas and oil picture is brightening; and three, we are not witnessing anymore shut-downs of government over the debt ceiling. He should have added — “We do best when no one listens to me.”

Savings accrued from the sequester that was forced upon Obama by those Tea Party nuts in the House. Gas prices are dropping despite the efforts of Obama to stop fracking and horizontal drilling on federal lands.  Senator Obama himself voted to shut down the government under George W. Bush, rather than to raise the debt ceiling — having once passionately adopted the very stance that he now demonizes others for.

I believe you are right dear Professor. It is a good sign when a lifelong liberal and Obama supporter like Camille Paglia accuses A&E of “fascism” and “stalinism” for firing Robertson. And last week she acknowledged that the modern economy, with all it's opportunities, conveniences, luxuries, advantages, not to mention profound expansion of the human horizon, is basically a male creation. She seems to understand that the male urge to compete, create, dominate and overcome has it's pluses. But Paglia has tremendous intellectual integrity, and is a fiercely independent thinker, a rarity on the Left.

Nevertheless I think this is indicative of a trend. The leftist culture machine has become all pervasive and homogenous, but it discords with fundamental human instincts. This has always been the great flaw of Communism: it adheres well to alienated humans idealized yearnings but jars with our day-to-day behavior. More and more people are sensing that something is wrong. Sooner or later they will hear an alternate narrative that will get them thinking. Drip by drip they will abandon their Messiah...

That is why Fabian take-overs cannot work, because they destroy the core instincts that propel humans forward. They infantilize us with their security blankets, while aging us prematurely by setting limits on where we can go, what we can do, what we may say... And meanwhile, the concentrations of power they create attract the predators...

By asking the young males of America to identify with Pajama Boy instead of Hunter Patriarch, Obama is asking us all to kneel. There are some who prefer to live on their knees, but they are a minority. They have to be or we would not have made it this far as a species. We have after all, alone or in small groups, crossed trackless deserts, climbed over towering ranges, forded raging rivers, crossed teeming oceans, tamed wild woodland and swamp... turned wasteland into plenty, raised great cities, soared among the clouds and walked on the moon... The left despises all of this because they fear chaos (one needs to be able to confront the chaos of life with open eyes, in order to achieve these things), and they fear chaos because it reminds them of death. And since conscious humanity is the only species aware of its own mortality, they ultimately reject consciousness. Thus it is accurate to refer to the left as a “hive-mind” or “tribe-mind”. And that is why they seek to ritualize their rejection of the individuating pressure on consciousness (through monolithic thought systems and rituals) that comes when humans actualize their potential.

There is a tension that exists between the group and the individual, and a natural oscillation between the two, particularly when a strong external pressure is felt. After 9/11, a large part of the nation wanted to unify under strong patriotic instincts, the left was terrified by that idea and launched all of its weapons to prevent it, and their all-out attack has been ongoing ever since. Barack Obama was one of their more potent weapons, and Obamacare was one of the warheads (there are more to come, but we have already blunted them). But in their arrogance, disconnected as they are from the real world, they forgot that the damned thing had to work, or their facade would fall away. If they recover it will be because our own side failed to capitalize on the moment.

Again I renew my appeal to conservative media. By resonating our voice, you have it in your power to push the GOP outside its comfort zone. Yes it will get a bit ugly, but so what? We need a little chaos to shake things up and breathe new life into a dying institution. We want fighters, people who will lay it all on the line in a direct assault on the established power structure, which is itself largely beyond the right-left paradigm. This is a time when giants are born. The more I think about it the more I'm convinced that a three prong strategy is needed:

1. An effective challenge to the entrenched cronies within the GOP in anticipation of upcoming federal elections.
2. A state level Constitutional Convention as proposed by Mark Levin to address some of the structural problems which enable the accretion of federal power. (This is a long-term effort, and long term strategies alone seldom stimulate the kind of quickening passion we now need, so it has to be combined and integrated into a 3 part strategy like I am proposing)
3. An effective grass-roots movement. The Tea Party needs to dial it up a notch or two with more mass rallies etc.

If the titans of conservative media can unite around a simple, effective narrative strategy, they can help rally our forces for action. We have an opening now. Let's use it.

If the face of Progressive behavior and authority is Pajama Boy then we actually have nothing to fear. He is simply an easily ignored wimp.

Standing in the shadows behind Pajama Boy is the real Nazi in the woodpile. The Enforcer of all of Progressive thought and authority. SHE is the homely, overweight, arrogant, asexual, authoritarian, cut-you-off-in-mid-sentence, PC spewing, union-indoctrinated, cold-faced, humorless, disinterested, impersonal, Obama-loving, non-reasoning, super-bureaucrat, B*TCH.

She is the grease that keeps the collectivist state machinery rolling. She knows she has you by the tender parts the moment she gives you her bored and icy stare and says “hand me you papers and sit down”. She will destroy your life and go home without remembering your name at 4 PM.

Forget Pajama Boy.

When I was the age of this alleged man I was a Combat Rifleman in the United States Army (MOS 11 B) stationed at Fort Benning. I lived in the barracks in the remote Harmony Church area of the military reservation. And I was preparing for a transfer to Germany to face the Soviet Army.

It was fully understood that the Soviet Union held international conventions protecting the rights of soldiers and civilians in war zones in absolute contempt. I had a close friend whose Cossack family had escaped from Russia by hijacking a ship while half a step ahead of the Bolshevik Red Army. He asked me that if in the event I was killed in combat if he could wear my identification tags so he wouldn't be identified as being from a family that had escaped from the Soviets. And to avoid being immediately murdered as a result.

Of course I said yes.

The old school Soviet Communists had nothing but contempt for Human Life. They had nothing but contempt for those under their rule.

The present day Progressives still hold Humans in contempt. But that contempt appears to us differently. In this case the ideal man who was prepared to face an unspeakable evil is replaced by over-grown child who is to whine his parents into compliance with the whims of The Big Zero.

I see that critiques of this ad are being called "anti-semitic" - which is outrageous! Check this out:

To me the Pajama Boy looks like a living breathing incarnation of a character from the old William Hamilton cartoons that New Yorker used to run. Here is a page of them to jog your memory: http://www.condenaststore.com/-st/William-Hamilton-Cartoons-Prints_c146287_.htm

They were all very similar, showing the 1% doing something characteristically self-involved but in a cute way so that they could actually feel very smug about seeing themselves portrayed that way. There is the same smirk, the same raised eyebrows... It is all completely nauseating.

".....and how many want nothing to do with such metrosexual visions of a huge state run by a nerdocracy, incompetently doling out other people’s money."

How right. Mostly those of us who do tings for a living want to smack the sh-t out Pajama Boy and his friends. Including the pretender in the WH.

As hard as I try I just cannot picture "pajama boy" sitting in the berthing area of a United States Navy Guided Missile Frigate, the type I served on, without having the crew members beat him to a pulp. Daily.

After American voters stunningly re-elected
An obviously failed president I have to believe
America has turned into a Nation of Pajama
Boys and Pajama Girls, well at least the Millennials
Who spearheaded the travesty's of '08 and again
In '12. Too lost in their iPods, iPhones, and iPads
To notice the king had no clothes, I guess.

I'm of the Millennial generation you described (2008 was my first time voting), and I voted for McCain. Also voted for Romney in 2012. I would never vote for Obama especially considering his abortion practices, which I knew beforehand thanks to my mom and even one of my High School teachers. Have no regrets for not voting for Obama, period, even when the media implies that I must be racist.

Come to think of it now that there's no military
Draft maybe it's time to hike the voting
Age back up to 21.

Make it so that if you're claimed as a dependent for either tax or insurance purposes you can't vote. The Democrats themselves have already admitted that the young are not self-sufficient until after age 26. Why should people not competent to provide for themselves be able to vote.

Throw in passing the "Civics" exam you have to pass to become a naturalized citizen as the predicate of voting, and you destroy the Democrat Party altogether.

Hi, Victor. Very enjoyable post, but for the comment about Duck Dynasty. We do watch the show. It is obviously scripted, but I believe the "stars" are sincere in their beliefs, and every show ends with a meal at which grace is said. A refreshing change from standard TV fare these days.

I remember one episode where Phil and his wife get a present of a "pet photographer" photo. The photographer was not flamboyantly-gay, but more like Brad Goreski, sort of "gently in-your-face." Phil's comment about the photographer was that he "had mother issues." And though Phil was kind of bemused by the whole concept of pet photographer he went along and treated him with respect.

Much better than everyone is treating him.

I'll acknowledge that I am more interested in Camille Paglia's opinion, than that of anyone here, but life finds me at this website, not any one that she might have. My two cents would be that the great advances in medicine have meant that a huge number of pajama boy/girl types have survived that would not have done so in the past. They are now part of what we are, what our culture is. Yes, I raised my kids to follow a different path, but had they been "different," all else might have been different too. Blustering and swaggering about what THEY (the effeminate males, the masculine females, the lefties, the greenies etc. are, does not change anything. Society now consists of the pajama boys and the endless permutations thereof. It is what it is. We live in a world where the fact that GOVERNMENT pensions for vets may not be raised causes outrage in people who supposedly are AGAINST the government anyway. ;-) Rage on. Since I am assuming that we will muddle through this, because that is what humans do...Merry Christmas.
