When 40%, not 97%, Is Illiberal
One of the legacies of the Obama presidency is that “white male” as a term of embarrassment has now transcended the hothouse of the campus and gone mainstream. We are lectured by media figures, celebrities, and politicians ad nauseam that the November election is really about a new America of diverse minority groups, gays, feminists, and green pitted against a dying and shrinking number of old white guys. Sometimes that narrative requires absurd assumptions.
If blacks vote this election in ratios of 97% for Obama, it is not really proof of racial solidarity, but because Romney somehow is a racist. In this regard, consult the wisdom of Louise Lucas, a Virginia state senator, who is part of something called the Obama “Truth Team”: “What I am saying to you is Mitt Romney, he’s speaking to a segment of the population, who does not like to see people other than a white man in a White House or any other elected position.” Note that Lucas adduces no evidence to back up her slander.
In turn, Romney supporters allegedly have employed racial “dog whistles” — coded language like “golf,” “welfare,” or “cool” — intended to call out white racist males who favor Romney by supposed margins of 40% to 60%. Again, examine the logic — when various minorities prefer Obama by margins of 70% to 97%, we are to assume that they are both enlightened and that Romney is a racist; when white males vote in far greater percentages for Obama than do minorities for Romney, we assume they are racist and illiberal. That white males usually vote for the more conservative candidate, regardless of race (ask John Kerry), is ignored.
You’re Pale, Not Me
Harry Reid, the rather old, white, wealthy, and grumpy Senate majority leader, recently remarked that “the day after the election 17 angry old white men will wake up and realize they just bought the country.” I am not as angry, old, white, or wealthy as Harry Reid, so I assume he has better claims on membership in that guild than I — and millions of white male others.
Radio host Richard Fowler joked to rather pale, unexciting, and male Bill Press on the latter’s TV show that the Republican National Convention was “pale, stale, and male.” Giddy on hearing the glib stereotype, and apparently assured that his own liberalism meant that he was not included in it, Press chimed up that they were “old farts.”
Not long ago, an upscale, well-paid host on MSNBC by the name of Melissa Harris-Perry attacked Paul Ryan as a “wealthy white man.” Ryan, of course, makes a lot less than does Harris-Perry. A bit earlier, the rather boring and very white NBC host Brian Williams asked Mitt Romney whether he would pick as his VP candidate another “incredibly boring white guy.” These examples of the new racial polarization could be multiplied, from the idiot rantings of a quarter-educated Cher to supposedly serious entertainers like James Earl Jones, Morgan Freeman, and Chris Rock (the 4th of July is now “white people’s independence day”) to the ranting of the Congressional Black Caucus to “put y’all back in chains” Joe Biden.
If there is any one who would be a joy to see in chains a la Biden, it would be that sassy and corrupt old white grifter Harry Reid.
I am reminded in this context of a fictional film I once saw of the Marquis de Sade. He was in prison, chained up against a wall. He was in chains in order to prevent him from continuing his practice of writing his internally logical and consistent “literature” all over the floor and walls of his cell and all over his own body using his own excrement as ink. Of course his logic was based on some very shaky assumptions and axioms. Thus also are the attempts at logical renderings by the Left.
Yes, there is something sadistic about the line that white males yearn to torture everyone else, and masochistic about those who submit to the line of the Democratic Party. But their Sadean tactics should be viewed, first and foremost, as populist demagoguery that is more effective than rational appeals to the American electorate as it exists today. I found term “assumption” to be an interesting word for the author to use in his implied defending of “fairness,” and “against racism.” Yeah, a lot of assuptions have been made over the years: A virtual tradition. I’ve become aware of such assumptions historically from Repubs, and to a lesser extent, Dems, in assuming/beleiving that nonwhites were unfit for selfgovernment, the “White man’s burden,” They’re “savages,” not quite human, They’re “inferior,” and thinking this was the “natural order of things,” as alluded to within the racist fallacies of the Eugenics movemment. Although these are past epithets (I hope they stay there.), there nevertheless is cause and effect, i.e., that present conditions are more or less rooted in past events. You’ll have to excuse if there’s any anger from those were/are considered the “other.” I guess every human wants respect, regardless of race, creed, color.

My landlady is black. She had a real estate agency manage the house in which I reside. She decided to manage it herself and in her phone call to me from five states away, she told me how she knows I’m prejudiced. She has never met me and I got along very well with the local property management when that was the situation. Again, this property owner has never met me. In her phone conversation with me she scolded me for being prejudiced.
There was no grounds for doing so.
So, I ask you. Who is dividing the nation philosophically and ideologically?
However, if you are approaching the argument that we, the people should just ignore such tripe as is bandied about by the likes of Obama and Holder, et al, then I heartily agree. I have many acquaintances I get along with very well who happen to be black; Here in the deepest part of The South. They certainly seem to be above that garbage being spewed by a racist president and I’d like to think that I am as well.
It’s up to the individual. But the problem has now become that those people who feel so put-upon by a system they’ve been told all their lives is skewed against minorities have a loud, albeit unnecessary voice in politics that advances a misguided opinion.

The “division” of the US population is an objective fact, not a psychological condition. Blacks are different from whites — they have their own language (ebonics), their own music (rap), their own religions (African whatever), their own national anthem (Lift Every Voice….), their own flag, their own Christmas (Kwansa), etc. Mexicans, Asians, etc., ditto. The amazing thing about ‘conservative’ thinking is that everybody admits that minorities are all racists (95% blacks vote Dem) but whites are not racist and should not be racists, because if whites are not racists, while every other race is fighting for dominance for their specific group, then there is no racism. This is insane thinking and disproves the rule that self-preservation is a prime objective of every animal species.
The USA is the first modern economy where tribalism was put aside by the people who built the country. This, of course, was a product of the times.
People helped each other survive, literally. Voluntary cooperation paid off in agricultural times. If a farmer’s team was hurt, his neighbor lent his. People reciprocated help voluntarily. Far away legal authorities was less a problem than today because of the voluntary moral behavior of the people. This behavior was ingrained in America’s DNA for generations. Is this true today? No.
LBJ began state programs of Food Stamps,free apartments, medicine, doctors, etc. Since LBJ’s time, immigrants can have a contemptuous and non-assimiilatory attitude toward America and its citizens, but still benefit as people did when cooperation and help was voluntary and reciprocal.
Tribalism in the immigrant community is going to be a real problem if we have civil disorder. I am specifically worried about the kind of immigrants who live in my former Brooklyn neighborhood. The few whites who still lived on the block were harmless old folks.
Why would foreign-born adults forbid their children to watch the Fourth of July parade which marches up Bay Ridge’s 5th Avenue every year? I watched the parade every summer for three years – bands, bagpipes, clowns throwing candy.
If a 4th of July celebration is repulsive to this immigrant group, will these immigrants EVER adopt and respect the American constitution and traditions? Will they allow their children born here to respect the country of their birth, or will teach their children the country of their birth is a “garbage can” as one immigrant religious leader said before the DNC convention. The Roman Empire is an interesting subject. The civilization of Rome was preserved, (documents) mostly by monks in scriptoria in scattered monasteries throughout Europe, and in practice by local nobility. When the Mohammedans conquered Constantinople, they converted the large basilicas (Santa Sophia) which they could never have built themselves, into mosques, while burning things like the great library at Alexandria. So, Arab/Mohammedan civilization, with temporary local excursions, is still in the 7th Century, and backward even for the 7th century. We don’ need no estinkin’ knowledge, longass we hab Allah.

The vast majority of inventions that make life so much better, were invented by white males. If there had never been any white males, we would be living as men and women lived a thousand years ago.
Ive been informed that non-white European Christian males would have done so, but for the oppression of same. It was the oppression of blacks, women, Jews, Muslims, Chinamen, and so on and so forth which is responsible for their lack of success in science, engineering, and technology.
Christianity had nothing to do with the development of science, in fact it was extremely hostile to science both philosophically and institutionally, which is of course why science blooomed into fullness only in Christian Europe on the planet.
The Christian Church was very supportive of science, especially during the Renaissance and Middle ages, as long as credit was given to God for creating the universe. Discussions on the existence of God were common, as long as His existence was acknowledged. But most students didn’t care because they also were taught Greek and Roman literature and philosophy, science, mathematics and whatever other subjects were taught at the time. There were many Christian-run schools in France, England, Italy and Germany during that period. Even with Galilleo, the only reason the church went after him was because he mocked the church in a treatise that he wrote. It had nothing to do with him claiming that the earth revolved around the sun, instead of the sun around the earth. The Christian religion was very supportive of learning during that period.
Moveable type, invented by Gutenberg, was probably the largest advance to civilization. It was invented by a white man and people of all races and creeds can be thankful for his invention. I know many other groups have had great inventors, but I think this tops them all.

Did the Greeks oppress the Persians and the Semitic peoples of the Near East, or did they achieve their monumental civilization IN SPITE of attempts by those others to oppress THEM?
How about the European intellects of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance? Did they oppress the Africans and people of color in the Middle East, or were they under pressure from invasions out Moors out of North Africa, Arabs out of Arabia, and Turks out of the Near East?
Western Civilization is a DIRECT result of European Caucasians doing things differently than those who tried to oppress them. And the Catholic Church played THE KEY ROLE in helping Europeans break out of the stagnation in thought and deed that Greco-Roman civilization had bound itself in and which threatened to do the same to a broader Europe.

I agree with you about the dominance of white male inventors….The same can be said for the arts and literature. Not all the differences can be esplained by cries of prejudice of one type or another. Many of the products of the new push for “equality” are not worthy of being published or made. Those who were recognized as having been discriminated against develop their own criteria for success. The brouhaha about the Cemocratic platform may have been the result of warring discriminees.
Professor Hanson, so many of us who truly do not make our judgements, political or otherwise, with a racial bias, share the depression you eloquently express at its emergence in campaign rhetoric. We had sincerely hoped that electing a black President who pledged unity would serve to further reduce its prevalence. Now it appears that the Administration is employing it and an influential number of journalists and commentators on the left are embracing it as an “issue”, as an attack strategy. Instead of improving racial relations, this Presidency is setting them back by a matter of decades. Regardless of which party wins, the color difference is going to fester, to become a matter of lasting bitterness. If Obama loses, beyond the likelihood of open violence, it may together with lissue of Socialism, result in the splintering of the Democrat Party.
This is indeed an election with tremendous potential for destructive results for our Republic.
There is something deep and ancient within us that makes us fear and hate the ‘other’. To live and function in a dense, dynamic, highly integrated society, we condition ourselves to allow the more evolved aspects of our nature to rule us. Empathy, the recognition that, as conscious beings, there is something unique about humans that binds us together, irrespective of skin color and other incidentals. There lies the darkest aspect of our nature: the infinite will to assume power over and consume everything.
As a Christian, I believe that the Universe exists so that wilfull creativity can evolve by choice. That empathic structures and systems can utter forth towards ever more perfect knowledge and understanding, and harmony and joy. That is partly what informs my Conservatism (beside the obvious requirements of fiscal discipline and national defense). Choosing to overcome our most primitive impulses takes constant effort, and the kind of moral discipline that leftists are not capable of. It is partly why they hate us so much. They know that their souls are corrupted and deep down it bothers them. It is also why they attack the moral foundations of civilization. They know that without it, we more readily revert back to the ancient patterns, and are those more easily manipulated and controlled. Most leftist activists are not really conscious of the fact that they are trying to push us towards a nightmare reality of poverty, ignorance and discord. Since 9-11, I have broadened my reading to try to get a grasp on the problem of evil. I am immensely awakened (and disturbed) by arguments in my current book “Explaining Hitler” by Ron Rosenbaum, 1998.
Mr. Rosenbeam’s job is to explain the explainers. The explainers are the western historical authorities on Hitler, beginning in 1945.
What is it about human nature that western intellectuals won’t call evil by its name? So many see Hitler as somehow hot responsible, but use Freudian arguments or socio-political arguments to explain away he is, what he said, and what he did. If arguments of this species of reasining justify that Hitler’s views were rational, then evil is not evil, is it?
Perhaps it will take an economic collapse and the aftermath to wake up people who sit and pontificate and pretend that pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony and lust don’t exist, and that morals and religion “damage” people.
When the grocery stores are empty because the delivery trucks have been hijacked by hungry and angry crowds, it will be every man for himself. Good luck Dr. Intellectual. Words make you safe in your present rarified world. If your wordy world collapses, words won’t stop the mob.

I like your central point here, but you are dreaming if you think that the right is better than the left on the issue in question. I have seen no evidence that such is the case. Either side is quite willing to do whatever it takes to move society in their direction. It is possible that organizing the right is a little more like trying to herd cats, rather than wolves, but in general I do not hear individuals at PJM, as much as frustrated and alienated…types. Your mileage may vary.

White Europeans are still over 70% of the population of this country. Hussein would never have been elected if not for the large number of white people that voted for him. The same can be said for any election in any district in this country that isn’t racially monolithic, like Detroit, New Orleans, or Washington, D.C. The fact is, white Europeans built this country. And with their current voting patterns of supporting every sort of socialist/fascist/communist/statist of every stripe, it will be white Europeans who will have destroyed it.
Consider also that the Civil Rights Movement would have gotten nowhere without the assistance, or at least the acquiescence, of a very large number of Whites. The Civil Rights Movement did not TAKE political power for Blacks; there is a reason why we celebrate King Day and not Black Panther Day. The Movement brought to the attention of Whites of conscience that THERE WAS A PROBLEM, which Blacks had not dared say before. Civil Rights workers, many of them White, died for this. When my daughter was in elementary school in Amherst they had two units every year, American Indians and Harriet Taubman. Only her second grade teacher taught her patriotic American songs.

If it weren’t for Scott Brown we would vote only every four years except to vote against overrides which always win. The result: liberal Amherst has higher taxes than most tony communities and little to show for it.
The entire education model being pushed by this Administration, K-12 and higher ed, is premised upon breaking up the concept of individuality– what john a powell a professional racialist sneered as the unitary self to be destroyed. You are a representative of your group and the self does not really exist according to the Peter Senge and the systems theorists coming to a school district near you soon. Or if you live in Harry Reid’s Nevada, coming to your whole stste via State Dept of Ed.
If you live in California or Arizona, racial equity tools thinks the answer is critical race theory and change agency training in the classroom. Never have so many people shown that they are ready for a post-racial America while the victimization industry decides it is too important a part of its Gramscian electoral coalition to use it in education. To get future voters who are ignorant and aggrieved and trained to respond from emotion as part of a group. The bet seems to be that education can destroy everything unique in enough students that they can govern and loot as they please.
Unfortunately this is also the crowd that either believes there is a fixed economic pie or actively wants to take the US away from fossil fuels and an industrial/consumer economy to a pastoral agricultural self-sufficiency existence.

We identify and complain about the “looters” in the political class. The Gorelicks, Johnsons, Reids, Clintons, Gores, Waters, etc. who are looting in the store during the riot that they initiated but we must be most fearful of the goons on the outside who are cheering them on in the hope that they will be able to get in on some of the action. The greater threat to our civility and liberty comes from, for example, the sweet looking little NEA lady schoolteacher who will kick you in the crotch if you try to interfere with the taking of the loot. These are the people we are forced to accommodate every day and they leave us with no choice but to either try the exercise of changing them, which will undoubtedly fail, or freeing our lives of them. It has become a fact that the worst threat to the America that we cherish may include our friendly neighbor or a relative. They say that history repeats itself. 1776 may well be on the return and things may get quite ugly. For me, that type of thinking may have seemed over-the-top at one time. No more. Obama has played his hand quite well. He has divided us against ourselves as a first step “Forward”.

Call me an optimist, but as Marshall McLuhan predicted in the 1960′s, the electronic age is changing every facet of our information world. It is a revolution much as the Industrial Revolution. Education is ripe for transition to virtual, and already is undergoing stage one, as MITx is introduced this fall. The old brick and mortar will disappear just as the horse and buggy did when H. Ford introduced autos that were affordable.
Newspapers and the old alphabet channels on TV are rapidly dying, as well. We were held captive by their limited and biased ‘news’ for generations, but that isn’t the case, thank goodness. People have easy access to government websites to see for themselves the truth about such things as debt, taxes, etc… Organizations that investigate the govt are thriving.
We are only at the beginning stage of this new period, where politicians can run but not hide from the truth…Already citizens proved the value of the internet in the elections of 2010.
Cultures don’t change as fast as the radical left thinks, as evidenced in polls. We are probably seeing the death throes of Karl Marx’s ghost. His philosophy has destroyed every nation that espoused Utopia because there is never enough wealth to cover the costs. When the money stops flowing in Washington, communities of real individual people will help each other. The centralization of power remote from the citizens is the enabler of demagogues who seek to divide us by any measure, be it skin color or something else. I have never joined an edu-union even though I was more than eligible to do so. I throw all of the retired recruitment blurbs in the trash. I believe ignorant and dumb are two very different things. Our citizenry is not dumb (just go back through these comments.) When our grade school, high-school, & college ‘educators’ start using available, reasonable, & unbiased examples (an economics problem in a math class at the appropriate level, e.g.), we may see a great deal of ‘ignorance’ erased. I have high hopes for a granddaughter who is in a good position to do this very thing.

Following is part of a comment on polling that I wrote yesterday here at PJM. The racism that Dr. Hanson speaks of in this article has gotten a lot of white males mad as hell. And they’re determined not to take Obama’s crap anymore.
One crucial factor not allowed for in polls is the white anger at Obama’s racist policies, opinions and innuendos which started with letting the Black Panther voter intimidators get off scot free when Eric Holder ordered the Philadelphia case dropped.
If this white anger boils over, it’ll most likely happen in the voting booths on November 6, election day.
Of course, Democrat leadership has been aware of this white anger potential ever since Obama’s been President. That’s why they constantly are accusing whites of racism. It’s really a very clever tact.
Besides the Obama media bias advantage, Obama has another big advantage. His communications team; specifically his commercial creating group is far superior to Romney’s. Which is why I call Romney Mitt McCain.
When you add in the willingness of the Democratic Party to partake in voter fraud, along with preventing half of the overseas military ballots from being counted, the likelihood of Obama winning is high.
Should Obama win, the only hope for the United States remaining a viable world leader is to hold the majority in both houses of Congress and sweat out the next four years until the idiot vote in this country realizes what snakes in the grass the Democrats really are. They’re evil to the core.

I said it first almost five years ago and I believe it even more now. Secession is our only hope. It does not have to be violent and in fact we in the Red states can refuse to use violence. But we must remake this nation. The new capital should be in the center of the Red states. Perhaps Wichita, Kansas or Oklahoma City. Secession is the last best hope of mankind. Truly.

Michelle Obama got a political crony job at University of Chicago Medical Center. Her job was to transport the poor to other hospitals so that the Medical Center did not have to pay their “fair share” of indigent care. For the favor, they paid her $300K.

As stated above, move our capital to the mid-west; wall street can find a home in Omaha; interstates can be used as passages for people to relocate; the military can be divided and only when mutual threat is realized, they can be reunited. We can own perhaps 70% of the production capability of the US as well as oil, gas, electricity and ports. We will need a separate currency.
But it can be done!

The utterly debauched black culture has so alienated me over the decades that I have an incurable revulsion towards that culture. Once in a while I run into a black person who is not of that culture but it is now more and more rare. Blacks like Harry Belafonte have literally created that which they despise so much. Whites who hate them.
There is a reason the gun stores can’t keep guns in their display cases and racks and ammo is always in short supply. War is coming and it is going to be pure hell on earth. The cities will become killing fields.

How does that work for you?” We had a major cultural change, that mean word was dropped and replaced by an attitude of goodwill–forty years ago. Turns out another Dick Simon driver had been in there bitching, barking orders and saying nigger this and nigger that. Traumatized by a word that should have lost its power forty years ago. They fixed his reefer just like great granpa, who had no choice, would have done. They could have sent him packing, forcing him to explain to the company why he had to drive to Little Rock or Nashville to get his unit fixed–job over with a negative reference. In the Civil War, most of the dividedness occurred between two very large groups, within which most people were sufficiently in agreement to feel a part of that group. And when President Obama loses the election and between Election Day and Inaugural Day signs an Executive Order rejecting the election results and naming himself as President-for-Life, who in political office will oppose him?? Have any of the supposed conservative GOP office-holders made any serious opposition to any of his laws-by-executive-order? Have any of them made even any genuine objections to any of them?? This discussion brings to mind an experience I had some forty or so years ago during the initial push to have public school students bused to achieve integration. My wife nd I joined a college friend and her husband for dinner at a local restaurant. I had never met the husband before. At some point during the evening the man brought up the subject of busing and the conversation began to grow heated. He was very liberal and was very supportive od having children bused. My wif and I were not sold on having our daughters bused all over the city. The fellow grew quite agitated as we talked obviously upset that we did not share his enthusiasm for busing. Aat one point I told him that if he was so sure that busing would be so wonderful than perhaps he nd his wife. should sell their home in hat at that time was an exclusive enclave in a suberb outside the city and move in so that their two children could be bused. The conversation ended and we never saw the couple after that. In my opinion he is the classic liberal. Social experimentation is great for everyone else’s children, but not for mine.
As a sixty year old white disabled Vet, who was also a lifetime Democrat until 2008, I vote who I like and think will do a better job for our nation. I voted Carter, way back when, but when he proved worthless, I voted for Reagan the next election, and the one after that, Reagan was great! I did not vote for Bush/Gore, figured neither to be very bright. I did vote for Kerry, in 2006. But in 2008, I just could not get myself to support a complete UnKnown Amatuer, who kept his background hidden and whom I only heard BS and outright Lies spoken at his speeches. Never been a big fan of anyone coming out as Mr Perfect, as Obama did in 2008, so I refused to back him, voted for my fellow Vet instead. I have seen it so many times in the past 20 years or so, because I’m a white male I’m supposed to be ashamed. Because I work 60+ hours a week to pay my bills and support my family, I have it easy and the system works to take care of me. I dont ask the government for help,I know I wont get any. I was told by a black banker that if I wanted to get a loan to open my own restaurant I would have to have my wife fill out the paperwork and put everything in her name(my name could not be on the paperwork)because no one gives bussiness loans to hard working white males with outstanding credit. It woulden’t be fair.

I think I’m a reasonable, fairly well-informed person. The course this country will take (socialist/communist vs free market/personal freedom) is going to get settled by force of arms- the two sides are just too far apart. I think your average conservative, freedom-loving white person is pretty much done getting demonized and pushed around. Obama and those around him always overreach; they’ll do something this fall or (God forbid) some time in the new Obama administration that sets off another hot Civil War. Hell is coming- get ready.
The majority of “educators” have proven themselves to be racists, by consistently using racist color judgments to compel classroom seating; first using the racist presumption that black discrimination/white favoritism was “necessary” to equality, and now using the equally racist presumption that white discrimination/black favoritism is “necessary” to equality.
These education derived, color based double standards, perennially infesting American society, are based on the stereotypes of “good race/bad race” which over the centuries have altered only in the colors of people taught to be universally good and bad, while retaining the very same racist double standard created by education’s consistent use of their stereotypical “good race/bad race” color judgments.
But the most successful scam of these so called educators has been, regardless of era, to successfully transfer the blame for America’s constant racial hostility on uneducated ignorance, rather than its cause, which is ignorance masquerading as an education.

Just to maintain a little perspective here, the difference between our society and that of 1861 is that in 1861 there were major governmental entities ready to take separate sides and fight, whereas in 2012, we have internet mutterers. I’m not surprised the “old, white male” is now accepted as a pejorative. It was always implicit in the way the Civil Rigths Movement mutated into a factory to produce more and more “aggrieved victim groups.” We are simply now in the end-game.
