Overseas Contingency Operations and Such

September 29th, 2013 - 8:42 pm

On the occasion of the outreach from Iran, and the embarrassment in Syria, it is wise to remember why and how our leaders became so inept at dealing with Islamists.

The Tsarnaev brothers killed and maimed in service to their version of Islam. So did Major Hasan, screaming Allahu Akbar as he shot his fellow soldiers at Fort Hood. The Middle East is undergoing the greatest religious cleansing of Christians of the modern age. This month, eighty Christians were blown up in a church in Peshawar, Pakistan — charged, tried, and executed in a nanosecond by Muslim suicide bombers.  At about the very same time, gunmen of the Islamist terrorist group Al Shabaab from Somalia murdered nearly 70 shoppers — after torturing and mutilating many of their victims — in a Nairobi shopping mall during a children’s event. None of these massacres had anything to do with the West Bank, Americans in Iraq, maltreatment of Muslims in the U.S., unkind immigration policies, undue attention shown Muslim travelers, or much of anything other than the usual grievances such as fighting back against terrorists.

Note that Europe and the U.S. are largely silent on the religious dimensions of this now almost daily violence. Apparently the EU and America believe that their own domestic security protocols have made it difficult for Islamists like the Tsarnaevs, Hasan, or bombers from Peshawar to harvest civilians with regularity in the West — or at least that terrorists can be kept out of Chevy Chase, the Upper West Side, Martha’s Vineyard, and Santa Monica.

Here follow some random observations from Obama administration officials about Islam and its role in energizing terrorists. John Brennan, the present CIA chief and at one time the president’s chief counter-terrorism advisor, once advised us, “Nor do we describe our enemy as ‘jihadists’ or ‘Islamists’ because jihad is a holy struggle, a legitimate tenet of Islam, meaning to purify oneself or one’s community.” If Major Hasan or the Tsarnaevs do not believe in jihad or in an Islamist worldview, what, then, drove them to murder? Losing a boxing match, or perhaps a slow-moving pathway to lieutenant colonel?

Here was former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper: “The term Muslim Brotherhood is an umbrella term for a variety of movements. In the case of Egypt, a very heterogeneous group, largely secular.” Is “largely secular” different from “secular”? If Clapper is right, why would they not their change their name to the “Secular Brotherhood”?

“When I became the NASA administrator,” NASA Director Charles Bolden told Al-Jazeera in 2010, President Obama “charged me with three things.” Bolden added that “perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering.” Apparently, if they can “feel good,” they won’t feel bad about us, at least to the point of blowing us up.

Dr. Hanson, while I applaud your appeal to reason in attempting to explain Obama's actions, I think Occam's Razor applies.

Rather than link his actions to fuzzy-headed leftwingfascist attitudes of appeasement and political correctness, I think it's more instructive to look at who he really is (it was, after all, a Spartan king who noted it was just as important to establish the character of a public speaker as it was to note what he says): He's a demagogue with no experience in foreign policy; he's the product of a broken home; his mother and father were avowed Marxists; and he's associated with self-identified radicals and racists his entire life.

Why is anyone surprised that he loves Islamofascism and hates classical Western Liberalism?

The truth is that the lefties hate white people who are not guilt-ridden and self-loathing. They especially hate white people who are not guilt-ridden and self-loathing who are Christians.

Diana West: "There is more at work here than a foundationally flawed strategy. In its drive to win Islamic hearts and minds, COIN doctrine has become an engine of Islamization inside the U.S. military. To win a Muslim population's "trust," U.S. troops are taught deference to Islam -- to revere the Quran; not to spit [or pee] toward Mecca (thousands of miles away); and to condone such un- or anti-Western practices as religious supremacism, misogyny, polygamy, pederasty and cruelty to dogs. Our military has even permitted Islamic law to trump the First Amendment to further COIN goals, as when ISAF commander Petraeus publicly condemned an American citizen for exercising his lawful right to freedom of speech to burn a Quran.

This explains why the reports that CIA director David Petraeus went before the House Intelligence Committee in September and blamed a YouTube Muhammad video for the deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, sounded so familiar. Whatever his motivation, it was all too easy for Petraeus to make free speech the scapegoat for Islamic violence. But so it goes in COIN-world, where jihad and Shariah (Islamic law) are off the table and the First Amendment is always to blame. If there is a lesson here, it is simple: A leader who will betray the First Amendment will betray anything."

Republican popularity will continue to go down if so called expetrs like DrHansen misleads the troops/tea partyers.

It is true Obama was against the raising of the debt ceiling when he was a senator. However, then, there was no threat of a debt ceiling being not raised.

BTW it was Gingrich who decoupled debt ceiling and budget authorization process - a total stupid destructive process. The financing of the budget should be a part of the budget process.

This shut down is different from all other previous shutdowns. All the previous shut downs were on budget amounts; not eliminating a legislation on the books.

iF PEOPLE LIKE dR hANSEN ARE TRUTHFUL, it will be a bit easier to attract young people to the party.

What irks me the most is that we have SUPPOSED intelligent and INDEPENDENT [former] military & State Dept folks who are willing to lie through their teeth in support of a worthless administration.
I put Brennan, Clapper, Bolden, & Casey in those categories! Shame on them!
Further, who is advising them before they open their mouths?

This BS has been going on a long time. Jefferson was our only President to study the Koran and related writings(Hadith and Surah) and knew that the only way to stop the Islam pirates from attacking, killing and holding for ransom our sailors was to meet force with force. Our proud Marine Force was founded by him and they were the first to 'kick some butt' in Tripoli. They are nicknamed 'Leather Necks' for the leather collars they wore while attacking the pirates and the army of the Sultan of Tripoli to keep the swords from their necks. Since 640AD, Muslims have followed the word of their alleged 'prophet' to subjugate ALL other religions in the name of their moon god allah and will continue to do so until stopped by a people willing to confront the truth of the teachings of Islam.

Actually, apparently John Quincy Adams, our 6th president also knew a thing or two about them. Check out the following rather damning passages unveiling the "real" Islam.

In the end, denying we have a problem with those who have declared, and practice, war against us is abysmally stupid. Enter Obama, stage left....

Almost, or hell, maybe all of these jibes at Obama &c have a lot of truth to them, but maybe VDH should mention that the Islamists are killing fellow Islamists at a far greater rate than they are offing Christians or westerners. He could still make the case for them being bloodthirsty loons, but it wouldn't seem quite so politically/culturally driven. One can argue that GWB and VDH (as an advisor) set off Arab Spring with all the concomitant weirdness when they decided to make Iraq safe for democracy. They spun the roulette wheel, and where it stops, nobody knows. GWB did not really know what he was doing; Obama does not really know what he is doing.
VDH is pointing out how messed up the liberals are. I can't argue with that, but it is not as if we have a non-messed-up alternative. What do I know, but it seems to me that waiting and NOT unilaterally bombing Assad's Syria is probably better than than whacking him a few times. Nothing has been, or will be, tidy about any of this mess, but VDH's jibes against the new Iranian nice-talker, lose some of their power when we remember how much opprobrium was heaped upon the previous guy for being a potty mouth. Let me get this straight, we blame the Iranians when they are holocaustian potty-mouths, AND we blame them when they are NOT?

C'mon, VDH, lay it on the line here, should we stop listening to their deceit and BOMB THEM RIGHT NOW? Is jaw, jaw, better than war, war...or not? It all depends, I know, but I'm not comfortable with Ted Cruz making these kinds of decisions.

Dear Leader, while announcing his "outreach" to Iran, reminded us that the Supreme Leader issued a fatwah against the use of nuclear weapons.
Now you all are supposed to feel more secure! OK?

Yeah, Dear Leader says there is a fatwa, now, would someone tell the Supreme Leader? Read around, it seems he is denying it and nobody can find any record of it.
