McConnell Caves, Lynch Confirmed as Attorney General

Predictable.

Loretta Lynch was confirmed Thursday as attorney general, the first black woman in American history to hold the country’s top law enforcement post.

The Senate approved Lynch, a federal prosecutor from New York, after an unusually long confirmation delay, fraught with partisan bickering. President Barack Obama nominated her as the successor to Eric Holder in November.

The vote was 56-43.

After a few weeks of seeming to understand that he was in control of the Senate majority, Mitch the Squish ran away from his own shadow and voted to confirm. He was joined by a cast of the usual Dem-friendly suspects: Orrin Hatch, Lindsey Graham, Jeff Flake, Thad Cochran, Susan Collins, Mark Kirk, Kelly Ayotte, Ron Johnson and Rob Portman.

Those thinking, “She can’t be worse than Eric Holder,” should remember that this administration has a particular knack for replacing awful officials with people who are, in fact, much worse (see: John Kerry).

We can also now be fairly assured that 99% or so of the strong stances McConnell takes will be nothing more than kabuki theater.
