Purposefully Divisive President Cries for America to Restore a 'Sense of Common Purpose'

It’s as if the last six years just never happened, at least in Barack Obama’s mind.

The president is having one of his “Days of Action!” at the White House, forums from which he typically says something that he knows is both provocative and offensive to at least half of the country. He pushes a policy that will either increase taxes or government power, or both. And he insults Republicans.

That’s what he has done for six years running — play insult comic, push policies that he knows will make millions of Americans quite angry, and then use the response to denounce them, while going bravely to battle against the army of straw men he surrounds them with and then sets afire.

Six years of that. Now, though, the president of the Roman columns and empty words wants America to get back to some sense of “common purpose.”

“The specific issue that has to be addressed making sure that people have confidence, that police and law enforcement and prosecutors are serving everybody equally,” the president said, in the same week in which he hosted notorious hoaxster and anti-police loudmouth Al Sharpton at the White House. Sharpton has spent recent months ignoring the facts in the Ferguson case. Obama has not called him out on that. “There’s a larger question of restoring a sense of common purpose. And at the heart of the American ideal is this sense that we’re in it together.”

Actually, at the heart of the American ideal is another thought — we’re free individuals, and the government is not our master, it’s our employee. Democrats seem not to agree with that, except when it suits them.

If the president had a record of seeking American unity at all, well, he might get a positive reaction now. But this is the president who says that he sees Americans who disagree with him as “enemies” who must be “punished.”

His immigration amnesty is part of the president’s punishment/reward scheme. And his credibility with the majority of the country is gone.
