When’s the last time you heard a president of the United States attempt to sell his ideas as “not crazy…not socialism” and not a sign of “the imperial presidency.” In the video below, President Obama does just that, on the banks of the Potomac yesterday in front of a friendly audience of staffers, supporters and media (forgive the redundancy).

Watching this brief clip convinced me that when President Obama leaves office sometime in the next decade or two, he can make a smooth transition to giving sales-training seminars.

I’ve studied the video, and culled from it…

1. Deal with Objections: You often have to deal with the prospect’s legitimate objections — and sometimes with his irrational, emotional objections.  Apparently the president felt that Americans need assurance that the highway bill is sane, capitalist and democratic. By echoing what their conscience tells them about him, Obama offers affirmation, while subtly suggesting that he might not be what their experience shows that he is.

By the way, in a one-on-one setting, the president would have used the “feel-felt-found” formula to defuse the situation, like so…

I can understand how you feel this is a socialist, imperialist plan to punish producers and reward my union cronies. In fact, others have felt that way too. In the beginning, even I felt that way. But as I studied the talking points prepared by my staff in cooperation with the AFL-CIO and Sierra Club, I found that it’s not crazy, not socialism and not the imperial presidency.

Heard today that the new employment numbers were based on 500,000 lost full time mobs and more than 750,000 part time jobs created.

Remember the people that told us we would lose full time jobs with obamacare, and this is what seems to be happening

I always direct my clients to never ever repeat the words that they are addressing or countering.
Good communication rallies support and trust. Bad communications grows the existing distrust

When any speaker repeats the words, he is supporting them and keeping them alive.
By attacking others in defense, the speaker supports the very thing he is trying to dodge. In Obama's case, he is trying to deliver the message from his propaganda and marching orders for his declining base.

Emergency mgr: Bad- do not panic....Good - take precautionary actions
Clinton: I did not have sexual relations
A president who jokes he is not a 'crazy socialist imperial president' and then moves on to blame others.
A really bad president who states from day 1 "Elections have consequences and I am in charge." (Confirms his Imperial Message)

"Well, sue me."

His "I am the social crazy Imperial President" point in the entire speech drowned out ALL other sales pitch.

He should have started with a positive about the Highway program with an emotional point. Then given the three reasons for the project summed up with the measurable outcomes, how he is helping everyone, and looks forward to input from Congress. tada- this would be positive, active, concerned, adult.

When I break his speech down into parts, what he says is tragic.
He apparently has no intention of putting the highway payolla scam program in place. He wants it to fail so he can continue blaming others.

Scott, the first item in your list of successful ploys in Obama's sales pitch is Background. BACKGROUND.

BH Obama, until his "overnight success" advanced by his agents in the 2008 DNC, Nancy Pelosi and Hllary Clinton, was a mere bit player. With CV, except for ONE criterion, less than impressive when not actually detrimental for a starring role on national/international stage.

Then there was his pre-election 2008 European tour - WHY European? With claques of reporters and photographers for his quasi Nuremburg Rally.

Selling Obama in such a manner. THAT's salesmanship. Obama is NOT the salesman, but THE Product.

To "speak the speech ... as I (WJ / Hillary Clinton, Pelosi, Reid et al AND Friends) pronounced it to you trippingly on the tongue". Which even that he manages without cue-masters or the script in front of him to speak as the amateur he undoubtedly is.

The product even if bought by only some of the customers is OWNED by them all.

WE The People "Had to Pass him to know what's in him" as the cue for the progression of their play within a play.

Obama is "a work of art". Buyers of expensive, and Obama has proved a VERY EXPENSIVE WORK OF ART, INSIST to know the provenance.

Documented. Proven. WON'T buy a "pig in a poke". Don't accept SEALS on documents of provenance. IF such documents are extant and proved suthentic.

There's of course not much defense against criminal dealers in collaboration to sell otherwise unsaleable product. Product they KNOW to be either forgery or student copy. Advertised AND sold as a must have rare treasure.

The discovery of Obama as inferior copy sold by malicious and deceptive sales teams is Very expensive. In the money spent, to be continued throughout his lifetime, for that selection.

AND that MOST valuable "commodity" self respect. Lost when discovered to have been SOLD, gulled, by malicious and deceptive sales teams.

Not as if their deceptiveness was unknown to many of the potential buyers who chose to buy other, even libellously advertised, product.
