Update: But what difference does it make?

We’re in farce territory now.

The Obama White House failed to inform Congress about the Bergdahl-for-terrorists swap until it had already happened. That violated federal law, and the White House has come up with a couple of attempts to justify why it broke the law to swap terrorists for Bergdahl. First, it was his health — he was so sick that we had to get him back as soon as possible by whatever means were necessary. The Taliban’s video of the exchange proved that wrong. He’s undernourished but not malnourished, and looks about as healthy as his captors. Obama used that talking point again today, but it’s a dead letter. He’ll have to walk it back somehow. Or pretend that he never said it, and you’re a political meanie if you bring it up!

The collapse of that talking point has led to a new, even more absurd, one. And this one comes with an added feature — it’s dangerous to American rule of law.

That talking point is already somewhat undone by another, which is the White House’s claim that it informed Sen. Harry Reid before the swap. Did the Taliban give the ok for that? The logic that it creates also cracks it more than a little bit. The Taliban can’t order the President of the United States to break federal law. They can tell him to do whatever, but it’s still up to him to jump.

And it’s undone by the fact that the Taliban had run around killing people for five years, but had not killed Bergdahl when they had him in their clutches. They obviously had some use for him. He was, at least, a bargaining chip. Had they killed him, they had reasons to expect a drone would be on its way to retaliate. In fact, the Taliban apparently warned the US that some of our drones nearly killed Bergdahl more than once. The Taliban were going out of their way to keep him alive. They had been wanting to deal him out for years. So, they would kill him if Dianne Feinstein or Ted Cruz suddenly started talking about a swap? Really? Does anyone believe this other than the most feverish Media Matters videobot?

I join Ed Morrissey in mocking this latest talking point for the nonsense that it is. These people are going to have to come up with a new lie. Which, rest assured, they will. There is some reason that they keep telling one ridiculous lie after another. The truth they’re covering up must be even worse than most of us speculate.

More: By the way, when Obama and his minions aren’t smearing the military who did their duty, he’s infantilizing them.

He was on death's door. Well, not on death's door exactly, but in the neighborhood. Well, not exactly the neighborhood, but on the map.

And he was a captive. Well, not really a captive, more of an unfree visitor. Who maybe collaborated a little.

Therefore, the trade of five terrorist masterminds was imperative. Well, not imperative, but urgent. Maybe not urgent, but ...hey, you're a racist!

I'm waiting for the excuse that Bo ate the letter notifying Congress of the swap.

This points to the level of trust the Administration has in Congress - they couldn't count on Congresscritters to keep their mouths shut for a month, even if talking would get a guy killed.

But then, maybe it's projection?

Where are the patriots? Where are the heroes? Are the Generals going to
Continue to 'shut up and salute' much as the
German SS generals did ? Don't the military see
What is happening before their eyes and will they
Continue to march in lockstep to the orders from
A commander in chief while he dismantles 200 plus
Years of American power and world leadership and
Surrenders to the forces of moral equivalence
And utopian degeneracy? Where is General Washington,
Patrick Henry, General Patton? Are there no men
Anymore? Ass kissers all? 'Shut up and salute'!

Bryan, you think you've got a career-maker in smearing this soldier, don't ya? As O'Keefe is to ACORN, so Preston is to Bergdahl?

Soldier?

You mean deserter, and collaborator. You can't smear scum like Bergdahl.

I'll reserve judgment on collaborator just yet. But deserter? You betcha. Bergdahl walked off his post; he deserted. No matter how hard the Left tries to spin it Bergdahl left his post. That is desertion. I've heard the argument that Bergdahl shouldn't have been a soldier, that he was a pacifist. Well he volunteered for the Army, then for the infantry, then for Airborne. By the time he was shipped off to Afghanistan he would have had a REALLY GOOD FREAKIN IDEA OF WHAT HE WAS GOING TO BE TASKED WITH DOING. And handing out M&M's wasn't it.

Where have you been the past few days? Almost every news report has been describing Bergdahl as a deserter and probably a traitor. Is telling the truth a smear?

James O'Keefe exposed ACORN & certain underhanded practices that were a matter of course, such as promoting trafficking of underage girls & other corruption.

Such that ACORN's funding was withdrawn, but, of course, in this political atmosphere, that corrupt crowd sneaked back under another guise.

Remarkably, Obama's own State Department spokeswoman already admitted what the truth is, even though it contradicts Obama's spin.

Marie Harf stated that Obama was committed to closing Gitmo and releasing all the detainees who were not going to be formally charged. So Obama was planning to release these 5 Taliban anyway. But according to her, he figured that as long as he was going to release them, why not get a little something extra out of it--like Bergdahl's release?

"All of these five were eligible for review by the Periodic Review Board of Guantanamo Bay. So there are three buckets of people in Guantanamo that remain. There are those who are approved for transfer. That’s 78. There are about 30 who have been referred for prosecution in some way. These five are in that middle bucket and were unlikely – might have been, but unlikely – to be added to the group that was going to be referred for prosecution. So it is quite likely that eventually, in line with our commitment to close Guantanamo Bay, they would be transferred.
Now, I’m doing some hypotheticals and going out a little bit here, but I think it’s important to remember who these five were, what likely would have ended up happening to them. So let’s say it was important for us to get Sergeant Bergdahl home. Let’s say these guys may have eventually been transferred somewhere anyways. I think many of us would make the argument – I would make it – that we should get something for them."

Exactly. And there was a play in the works to try to get civilians that were being held that got nixed. This administration said they weren't interested in trying to GITMO for GITMO.

No man left behind for the leftists, ..., except hostages, ambassadors, Navy Seal protectors, Christian pastors, Jewish contractors....

But give me a deserter who hates America...and we will give up the whole terrorist regime for him! He's their kinda guy!

O.K. the "trade" was made. It was successful. Nobody got hurt. Islamist Radicals got their key individuals and Obama got his lonely pawn in the global scheme of things. The Jihaddi sympathizing deserter was quickly whisked off to some hospital someplace for "critical care" and close observation...so goes this administration's narrative. The Pawn is undergoing treatment, care and a series of exams. Wonderful story line. What's missing in this narrative? DEBRIEFING!!!
This worm of an American is being pumped dry for all he's worth. Brainwashed with the new POTUS narrative and soon will surface the "knight-in-shining-armor!" Get the picture??? They're emptying his brain, filling it with niceties. Nice things to say in his up coming meetings with the press, talk shows and all the media blitz surely to follow. Of course, undercover agents will be at his side and family's side just to make sure, nothing "untoward" happens while all this is going on...in North Korea, these are called "minders!" Pray. Amen. So by trading one rather insignificant army pfc for five (5) senior Taliban Commanders the "Wizard of Odds" figured he'd bump the VA scandal from the front pages. Instead he's opened a Pandora's box of trouble for his administration and now instead of one white hot scandal (the VA) he's got a couple of (red hot) scandals on the burners. At the same time. And this is the smartest guy in the room??? Sure he is but only if the room is empty and someone put the parrot out on the back porch.

And this is the smartest guy in the room???...Remember the good old days when they were selling this about the lying failure of a POS .
“He knows exactly how smart he is,” Jarret told Obama biographer David Remnick. “And he knows that he has the ability -- the extraordinary, uncanny ability -- to take a thousand different perspectives, digest them and make sense out of them.”

Obama “has never really been challenged intellectually,” she went on. “He’s been bored to death his whole life. He’s just too talented to do what ordinary people do.”Or what an ordinary president does, for that matter.
