Roll Call reports that Rep. Trey Gowdy has named lobbyist Phillip Kiko to serve as staff director for the Benghazi select committee.
On Thursday afternoon, the South Carolina Republican announced that Phil Kiko would come on board as majority staff director.
“Phil brings with him years of experience serving in various capacities in the House and the Executive Branch, including top positions for three Committees,” Gowdy said in a statement. “He has a proven record of effective leadership and management, and I am pleased to have him on our team as we conduct a serious, fact-driven investigation to ensure our fellow Americans know the full truth about what happened in Benghazi.”
Kiko was most recently the vice chairman of the Smith-Free Group, a D.C.-based government affairs firm, but he’s a veteran Capitol Hill staffer as well.
Kiko’s name should be familiar to Tatler readers. He turned up working on Rep. James Sensenbrenner’s effort to put several states’ election laws back under Attorney General Eric Holder’s thumb, after the Supreme Court struck down part of the Voting Rights Act.
As we reported in August 2013, Kiko disclosed on his lobbying form that he was working for the far-left American Civil Liberties Union.
Rep. Gowdy omitted that in his announcement of Kiko’s appointment to the Benghazi committee.
