Obama And Boehner Relationship Anything But Solid

If more were actually getting done in Washington, there probably would be much less attention focused on how few times President Obama and Speaker John Boehner have met face-to-face, and on their “relationship.”

But Congress is testing new lows in terms of legislative productivity, which leaves plenty of time for journalists to muse about the president-speaker relationship, such as it is, on the day of one of their rare meetings.

On Tuesday, the president and Boehner met one-on-one for the first time since December 2012. They’ve been part of group meetings and have talked by phone. But it was the first time in more than a year that they sat and talked with each other individually.

There are probably many of us who are perfectly fine with Congress doing as little as possible, given its penchant for spending whatever money we’re earning. Those who enjoy hemorrhaging cash to a group of alleged adults who have the self-restraint of criminals with stolen credit cards are probably the only people who want more activity on the Hill.

And I am not so sure that The Idiot King and Johnny Tan aren’t both working on ways to defeat the Republicans in November, however different their approaches might be (I had to get that dig in).

The reality is that Obama is imperious and aloof to the people who like him, it is probably impossible to develop a functional relationship with the guy if you’re one of his political enemies.

Still, the guys seem to make it work sometimes:

"...Congress is testing new lows in terms of legislative productivity...."

That is wonderful news, and I sincerely hope it continues. I'd love to see both Boehner and the Idiot King on the links every day.

I’m surprised the headline isn’t “President’s Overtures of Friendship Stymied by Republican Hostility”.

This is NPR, after all.

Funny, I thought the most obvious headline would be, "Obama's actual hometown located - Locals say if you try to return him, we will shoot to kill."

Boehner has made many mistakes since becoming Speaker of the House, but this one surely tops the list.

He really shouldn't wear shorts. No matter who his golf partner is. Really.

Given that the Boehner Rule has replaced the Hastert Rule in the House [instead of only bringing up bills supported by the majority of his caucus, Boehner and just enough minions to give the Democrats victory ALWAYS vote with Nancy Pelosi and a unified Democrat caucus. He is the best Speaker of the House the Democrats have.]; your comment is not a dig. It is a rational conjecture based on objective facts.
