Talk show host Sean Hannity announced that he would leave New York, following Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s statement that conservatives who believe in the right to life, the Second Amendment and the traditional view of marriage “have no place” in New York.
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, currently running for another term, published a letter today in which he invited Hannity to come on down to the Lone Star State. Dewhurst’s letter reads, in part, “As you prepare to “Escape from New York,” I sincerely hope you’ll choose Texas as the destination for your family, your business and the traditional values that are apparently no longer welcome in the Empire State. Our state’s economic vitality and conservative culture might be a little overwhelming at first after you’ve spent years dealing with New York’s high taxes, oppressive regulations and liberal social values, but I’m certain you’ll fit right in.”
This afternoon on his popular talk radio show, Hannity read part of the letter and responded:
“He did not need to do this,” Hannity said after saying that Dewhurst’s letter is “one of the nicest” letters he has ever received. Hannity added that he is now “homeless, when your governor, a person elected to serve all of the people, talks about, if you disagree with him, you are not welcome in this state.” Hannity was born and raised in New York and currently lives there. He says he is now considering moving either to Texas or Florida, but is leaning Florida because of the fishing.
For what it’s worth, I just spent the weekend duck hunting on the Texas coast. It was wonderful, and hunting and fishing of all kinds are alive and well here in Texas.
