Earlier today we reported that the Federal Aviation Administration is halting all aircraft sales, blaming the shutdown. The FAA made this choice though just 17% of the government funding  is stymied, and though past shutdowns never impacted aircraft sales.

We also reported on the Nevada couple, ages 80 and 77, who have been kicked out of their home because it happens to sit on federal land. They own the home. But Obama won’t let them back into it.

It is, literally, Barack Obama choosing to keep them and others who own homes that happen to be on federal land from being in their own homes. The executive branch agency in charge of kicking these people out of their homes answers to Obama. He could let them back into their homes at any time.

Amy Holmes at the Blaze noticed that while these families are being barred from their own homes, oil and gas producers are not being kicked off federal land.

So, it would appear that the White House doesn’t dare send the land management goons to barricade our oil and gas wells.  That would be a shutdown showdown too far.  But they will harass Joyce and Ralph Spencer, war vets, mom-and-pop shop owners, and families on vacation to make their point — and make it as personally painful as possible.

Obama also isn’t messing with gun owners, yet. The Federal Bureau of Investigations runs the Amber Alert web site, which it took down over the weekend, blaming the shutdown. But this afternoon I called the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, which the FBI also runs. That’s the system that licensed gun sellers call when they sell firearms, to check on a buyer’s background to ensure that they can legally own a gun.

NICS is still up and running, both on the phone and online.

Obama evidently fears messing too much with the economy — so he won’t directly order oil and gas producers operating on federal lands to leave — and he still fears the National Rifle Association that he and his minions demonize every day. Taking the NICS system down would invite massive criticism and would also drive some gun sales, maybe many gun sales, off the NICS grid.

Good.

The lesson here, it’s unwise the depend to directly on the federal government. It’s better to be feared by Barack Obama than to be fake loved by him.
