But not Media Matters, which is under law an education organization, but which in fact is a leftist political hit squad founded in part by none other than Hillary Clinton? Why don’t they come up in your analysis, Blake? Media Matters have been openly flouting the law for years and the IRS has left them alone to focus on Republicans.

His piece finishes with a whitewash flourish.

At this point, there is no indication that the wrongdoing reached the higher levels of the IRS or into the Obama administration, but Republicans will undoubtedly use this issue to press their small-government agenda as we head into the looming tax reform and debt ceiling debates.

And there is plenty of reason to believe that this could be a big issue for the GOP — both politically and on policy.

The abuse of power and potential for the Obama White House to have been involved never even rate a pixel.

Serves those Tea Partiers right. If they wanted to avoid scrutiny they should have been smart enough to include the word "Islam" in their titles.

As a former Federal employee, I know there are restrictions on political activities, others in the IRS against selective targeting and abuse of authority. Those folks in Cincinnati (Just in Cincinnati? Doubtful.) should be investigated and, as appropriate, terminated. That goes for the higher-ups likely involved. Do I believe that will happen? I don't.

It's especially ironic that they chose to target conservative-sounding groups when it is common knowledge that the proscriptions against political activity are absolutely meaningless to the left wing front non-profits. I doubt there's more than a handful even of Black churches that could withstand scrutiny. A Black church is noting more than a Democrat organization and GOTV center, likewise most union halls.

Time for an organized tax protest.

If I recall correctly after the last really big one of those we ended up with some very refreshing documents that we tried and failed and tried again to live up to. More of that would be a tonic to this nation. Unless too many mouths are firmly attached to the public teat, in which case it may be too late for the minority.

My word choice was poor. We've already had organized protests. Time for an organized tax revolt.

Give Blake a break. He just thinks the IRS is doing its job of punishing wrong behavior. Thank you, Chief Justice Roberts!

Well, I'm certainly relieved to hear Tim Carney assure everyone that the President will not tolerate any wrong-doing on anyone's part in regard to the IRS. Good to know we have a moral paragon like Obama on the job.

Sorry - Jay Carney. I keep calling him Tim. I guess he just looks to me like a Tim. My apologies to all the Tims.

But he's such an unintentional comedian spilling such absurdities that Art Carney would be more appropriate.

What an insult to a comedy genius.

I associate Carney with the folks who run travelling carnivals. Which isn't fair to them, but...

Oh yes, I'd really like to see a list of all those left wing non profits that have been given a pass by the IRS for obvious activities like money laundering for PACs.
Also as a side issue why has Hollywood accounting been given a pass on tax evasion for all these years.
For those without money and influence it is toe the line or go to jail. Sooner or later a Jacket Wallah is going to show up for the IRS.

This may be the most disappointing headline I’ve ever read: “Mitch McConnell Demands White House Investigate IRS for Targeting Conservative Groups.”

There should be an investigation. The White House should under no circumstances conduct that investigation.

--
Exactly. Having the White House investigate this is like getting John Gotti to investigate the Mafia. The White House probably masterminded this IRS harrassment of conservatives. What are they odds they're going to determine THAT?

One of the articles of impeachment for Nixon was using the IRS as a private bully force against his enemies.

"Initaied by low-level workers" is use of quite a flexible phrase. All bureaucratic actions, as actions and not just flows of orders and ideas, are initiated by low-level workers. It leaves open who ordered the actions.

but, but, but lois lerner says,"that was absolutely incorrect, it was insensitive and it was inappropriate." so ok then.

actually it was certainly cause for dismissal, i would hope imprisonment, and
i could make a case for treason (though it would be a weak case).

but as long as she admits it was insensitive, i guess all is forgive.

Actually, shouldn't the word be 'illegal', rather than 'inappropriate'? Not sure if it is illegal, though. idk
