AIPAC likes to boast that it is a bipartisan organization, and that support for Israel is overwhelming in both parties. Well, that is not exactly true.

Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA) is perhaps the last principled pro-Israel Democrat left in Congress, since all his Democratic allies in the Senate voted to confirm Israel-hater Chuck Hagel to be Secretary of Defense. Sherman is a staunch supporter of Israel — endorsing every piece of pro-Israel legislation making its way through congress — and the only Democrat who has been honest about the leftward shift of his party away from Israel.

Without even being asked about it, he opened one of his talks at AIPAC, saying, “We have a problem on our left-wing” and “we have some work to do in the liberal community” regarding the decrease of support for Israel in his party. He went on, “I go into left-wing rooms and hear things I don’t want to hear…on the far, far left, they hate Israel because its pro-American.” He said this is because “liberals instinctively root for the underdog” and see the Middle East conflict through the lens of Israel oppressing the Palestinians.

He urged liberal, pro-Israel Jews to combat this by, among other things, informing the left about how open Israel is to the LGBT community. He said Israel advocates must become more engaged in their communities and teach their fellow citizens about the positive qualities of Israel.

When asked about the possibility of America using force against Iran, Sherman plainly said, “America will not attack Iran” to prevent it from acquiring a nuclear weapon because it is war weary from Iraq and Afghanistan. This was a stunning admission by him, as the night before Vice President Biden — restating what Obama has said in the past — told the entire conference that all options, including the military one, must remain on the table. But according to Congressman Sherman, the American threat of force by President Obama is not credible.

It's nice that Israel treats its homosexual citizens well. But support for Israel will not be gained by whoring after the Left's pet cause of the moment.

The Left consistently moves the goalposts; that is why the inclusive, multicultural murals painted by far-left WPA artists are now being removed from the schools where they have hung for nearly 80 years; they are not PC enough for the current crop of leftists running the schools.

Israel is a nation built by the left wing of its day. It is the most multicultural, and least "colonial," of any of the states in the Middle East. It has striven, largely with success, to remain an open society committed to equal justice despite being under attack for every year of its existence, and despite the presence of a murderous minority within its borders---and it has prospered and contributed mightily to the betterment of the world despite these difficulties.

These are the reasons that the Left should admire Israel---and they are precisely the reasons that the Left hates Israel with an increasing passion, for despite all the problems Israel faces it has survived and prospered and triumphed over the barbarism exhibited by its neighbors, which the Left favors.

Israel is hated by the Left because it shows that the Left is a lie; that the ideals mouthed by the Left are a sham, and its values the values of oppression. Pleading with the Left to change its opinion because Israel exemplifies the practice of ideals to which the Left falsely lays claim far better than the vile regimes surrounding it, which the Left supports, is a waste of time.

"on the far, far left, they hate Israel because its pro-American"

What does this say about their attitude towards the United States itself?

A one year freshman on the House foreign affairs committee beat Brad Sherman for the ranking member position. The writer of this article is completely unaware of Sherman's past. He is now fighting for survival and saying whatever he can to get support from the community he has thrown under the bus for years. Next time you write an article about him do your homework. In 18 years he has authored three pieces of legislation that have passed the house, two renaming a post office and one amendment on immigration for Indian Americans. He has been recognized as a useless legislator by his own party and is just trying to make up ground. With people like him in office Israel needs real friends. Do your homework.

Mark, you're not going to find a better friend of Israel in the current Democratic Party than Brad Sherman. Elliot Engel from New York is terrific also.

Dear Sammy at PJTV, if Brad Sherman is the best friend to Israel that the democrats can offer God help Israel. Take the time to investigate his record or lack of. The deputy consulate general to Israel in Los Angeles privately states he has no respect for him as well. You are only writing an article in hopes of getting closer to a person of assumed power only to further your own career. The problem is your readers will believe all that you write until they do their own research and find out different however by then you will have moved on in your career and the damage has been done. This is why there is little faith in our government and our press. You are all perfect at spinning misinformation for political or financial gain. Our great nation is not only financially bankrupt, we are morally bankrupt.

Mark, can you name a better Democratic friend of Israel in Congress than Brad Sherman? And, actually, I'm pretty sure Mr. Sherman would not be happy I published his statements criticizing his own party and Obama.

Sammy, I guess you forget that 32% of Democrats support Israel and 66% of Republicans support Israel. Sherman was silent the whole time Obama treated Israel like a second class nation and made the prime minister come through the back door and wait while he had dinner. Sherman was silent while Iran has repeated it's desire to wipe Israel off the map and all along he takes money from J street. Like I said with a friend like Sherman God help Israel and reporters like you God help our media. Are you really afraid Sherman might get mad at you. LOL He can pretend to criticize his party all he wants he will still vote exactly like he is told to. We deserve a representative with a brain and an independant voice, he has either however he has you I guess. A match made in well you guess.

As a longtime Jewish Republican, I appreciate Brad Sherman's candor. However, he is not alone in the House. The congressman from my former district in New York, Elliott Engel, has taken very similar positions.

"“I go into left-wing rooms and hear things I don’t want to hear…on the far, far left, they hate Israel because its pro-American.”" Speaks volumes of the Left arm of the Country. So I guess if your pro-America you are to be hated simple because your are pro-American.

The above is sad and true, o immortal Buzz. In a focused little example that tells those with eyes to see all they need to know: As long as Israel rejected the "two-state solution," that dream of Israel and Palestine side by side, with clearly defined borders, was the only just and possible solution. As soon as an Israeli government arose that was willing to consider it, suddenly the "two-state solution" was a form of brutal oppression, and the only acceptable outcome was for the land to be "unified," with "one democratic state for all its citizens." Right. Of course.

Liberals don't root for the underdog, if they did they'd be rooting for straight, white, Christian, men who wanted to have a big family and raise all of them to be contributing members of society. Liberals support those who hate the same things they do, and since the radicals hate America and Israel, they naturally love them.
