ABC Reporter: But What Does Rand Paul Know About Foreign Policy?

An ABC News reporter tried dressing down Rand Paul (R-Ky.) after the senator chided Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during today’s Benghazi hearing.

“Curious: What is Rand Paul’s foreign policy background? Did he serve in the military? Did he study, live, do business or charity overseas?” tweeted Terry Moran, co-anchor of ABC’s Nightline.

It was Moran’s only tweet of the hearing.

“I’m glad that you’re accepting responsibility,” said Paul during the Senate Foreign Relations Committee meeting. “I think ultimately with your leaving that you accept the culpability for the worst tragedy since 9/11. And I really mean that.”

“Had I been president and found you did not read the cables from Benghazi and from Ambassador Stevens, I would have relieved you of your post. I think it’s inexcusable,” he said.

Paul said he didn’t suspect Clinton of “bad motives” but said that it was a “failure of leadership.”

Paul, elected in 2010, was added to the committee for the 113th Congress. It raised some eyebrows among the GOP as the libertarian senator has an isolationist-leaning foreign policy similar to his father’s.

In response to Moran’s question about charitable work, Paul, an ophthalmologist, is a member of the international Lions Club, through which he founded an eye clinic to help those who can’t afford to pay for eye surgeries or exams.

Paul recently returned from a weeklong fact-finding trip to the Middle East, including a stop in Israel — after which he said any cuts in aid to the Jewish state shouldn’t be drastic.
