Devin Dwyer of ABC News Lies in Story About the Fiscal Cliff

President Obama is telling ABC that he expects the Republicans to cave on taxes. ABC News writer Devin Dwyer mischaracterizes the debate entirely.

“I’m pretty confident that Republicans would not hold middle class taxes hostage to trying to protect tax cuts for high-income individuals,” Obama said today in an exclusive interview with ABC News’ Barbara Walters.

“I don’t think they’ll do that,” he said of Republicans forcing tax-rate increases for families earning $250,000 a year or less.

That last line is the lie. Republicans are not “forcing tax-rate increases for families earning $250,000 a year or less.” That is not what is holding up the fiscal cliff talks. Republicans all along have supported extending the Bush tax cuts for ALL Americans. Barack Obama and the Democrats are holding the middle class hostage in order to force the Republicans to approve disallowing the tax cuts on the upper couple of percent of taxpayers to expire. In other words, it’s the Democrats who are trying to force taxes to go up. Obama is on that side of the argument, not the Republicans. Republicans object because they see the upper earners as business builders and job creators, and raising taxes on them along with the rest of us would hurt the economy. About a year ago, Barack Obama agreed with that position. Now he doesn’t.

Apparently it’s too much for ABC’s Devin Dwyer and the layers of fact-checkers at that miserable excuse for a news agency to report news that features facts.

One problem with Dwyer’s lying lying is that most of his readers will just accept his lie at face value. That’s how media bias works. Dishonest reporters report lies and the public hasn’t the time to research what they’re reading or hearing, so the few who read it, believe it.

Man, I really hate the media sometimes. They sin by commission and omission. For instance, Obama on Monday totally and shamelessly lied about what Michigan’s right-to-work law does. He just lied through his teeth. The media is not calling him out on that at all. They’re also not calling him out for snaking around his position on the Bush tax cuts, from calling them irresponsible to defending some of them for the purely political angle of making Republicans look like they want to raise taxes.

The point of writing this post? To get Devin Dwyer’s name in Google associated with lying, because that’s what that critical line in his story constitutes.
